*I don't own anything*
Jane looked stood out on the balcony of Stark towers watching the sunrise. Her hair was being blown by a gentle breeze. Everything was just so peaceful. She just felt so happy and accomplished that she didn't notice Thor walking up beside her.
"Your back," Jane smiled as she stepped up on the tips of her feet to kiss him.
Thor smiled down at her. "I do not enjoy my time away from you Jane. It saddens me."
"I miss you when your gone, but I know that you'll always come back," Jane said as Thor put his arm around her.
"I've been thinking about us a lot Lady Jane. Parting from you is harder than it used to be. There is something that I have been wanting to do."
Jane turned to respond and saw Thor down on one knee. Her heart fluttered with excitement and shock.
"I do not know much about midguardian weddings but I know that I love you. I promise to love you, and to care for you. I want you by my side everyday Jane. You make me a better person. Will you marry me?" Thor said his heart pounding. This was probably the most exciting and stressful moment of his life. Within seconds Jane was on her knees as well with her big brown eyes looking into his blue ones.
"Yes! Absolutely yes!" Jane cried as Thor smiled and pulled her into a big hug.
"As I said before I don't know much about midguardian weddings. I did however get you this," Thor said as he pulled out a small silver ring.
"Thor it's beautiful!" she said as he slid it onto her finger.
"I know it's not traditional, but it has been in my family for generations. It was fabricated with the same things as Mjolnir."
"It's perfect," Jane said looking down at it.
"It is indeed a representation of our new journey together."
"Pepper your phone is ringing!" Tony yelled from his lab. Tony let out a sigh remembering that Pepper was taking a shower and he would have to answer it. He picked it up not bothering to see who was calling. "Hello?"
"Who is this?"
"Who is this?" Tony asked in response with a smirk.
"Let me speak to Pepper please."
"Sorry she isn't available right now," Tony said a little frustrated with the edgy tone of her voice.
"Just have Pepper meet me at the coffee shop downtown. She knows which one."
Tony hung up and tossed the phone back onto the table.
Pepper heard a little bell ring as she opened the door to the coffee shop. She hadn't been there in years. It brought back so many memories, but that's not what had her thinking.
"So you wanted to see me?" Pepper asked as she slid into the booth across from her friend.
"I thought we were friends," she replied calmly.
"We were. I don't understand why you stopped talking to me when I needed you the most though. Now you call me up and speak to my husband the way you did and think things are going to be ok?" Pepper asked appalled.
"I didn't think that things would be ok Pepper. I was going through things too," she said, as tears began to roll down her face.
"Tori I had my family abandon me. Everyone stopped talking to me. You left," Pepper said.
"I know but Pepper look at your life now. I can't believe you're married. I'm sorry that I wasn't there for you. My parents left and I had to raise my brother. He was a newborn and I couldn't do it. Everyone thought he was my baby. I had to put my own brother up for adoption Pepper," she said as she wiped away tears.
"I'm so sorry. I still don't understand though. We could have been there for each other. If it weren't for Tony I don't know where I'd be," Pepper replied her voice growing weak with frustration.
"Wait Tony? As in Tony Stark?" Tori asked, her voice raising.
"Yes. I married Tony. I love him. He's my hero," Pepper said smiling at the irony in that last bit.
"How could you? You knew how much I liked him in high school. You have the life I wanted," she said angrily.
"I'm sorry. I needed someone. I got a job working at Stark Industries and I never thought I'd like him. Let alone marry him and raise a family."
"YOU HAVE A CHILD WITH HIM?!"
People started to take notice of their argument.
"I can't do this," Pepper said as she got up to leave.
On her way out she was so focused on getting away and home that she didn't notice Tori launch a cup at her. It smashed to pieces. Pepper looked back over her shoulder. "I've learned to deal with worse," she said as she left and ran to her car.
"Mr. Stark, Mrs. Stark has arrived," J.A.R.V.I.S. said, turning down the volume of Tony's music.
"That's good," Tony said, not bothering to glance up from his work.
"Sir she appears to be crying," J.A.R.V.I.S said.
With that Tony threw the wrench he was holding. "Thank you J.A.R.V.I.S."
Pepper sat in her parked car with tears streaming down her face. She felt as though all the hurt from her past had hit her all at once. She didn't even notice Tony walking up to the car.
"Pepper sweetheart, open the door," Tony said.
Pepper sighed and unlocked the car door as more tears streamed down her face.
"Pepper honey please talk to me," Tony said as he opened the door.
"She left me when I needed a friend Tony. She hates me for being with you. Seeing her brought back all of the bad memories. I hoped that today would bring closer for me but it just hurt instead," she said as the tears continued to roll down her cheeks.
" It's going to be ok Pepper. I love you. Please come out and let me wash your hand while you tell me how you got that gash."
Pepper looked down confused. She had been so focused and angry that she hadn't noticed it.
"Ok," she replied weakly as she got out of the car.
"Alright Pepper. How did you get this," Tony asked as they sat down on the couch.
" She threw a cup at me as I was leaving," Pepper said laughing a little.
Tony smiled. "You think it's funny?"
"I guess it is. I've been through so much and she thinks that'll hurt," Pepper said.
"I wish you didn't have to go through all that stuff."
"It's fine."
"No it's not. In fact, since our last vacation got ruined, let's take another one with the whole family. I'm not just talking about bring Amanda -who is having an amazing day with Uncle Steve and Aunt Darcy by the way. I mean the whole clan. Let's go to the cottage."
"I'd love that Tony, just know that everything that's happened to me, to us, I wouldn't change. I love my life. Everything that's happening is all a part of our wonderful journey together, and I wouldn't miss it."
