Do not own! Not mine!
Flora's POV:
I nuzzled into Alucard's chest as he slowly stroked at my hair, humming to himself. I was nearly asleep now, warmed by the blanket he had covered me with and quite content to use him as a pillow, when suddenly my cell phone rang. He reached for it with an irritated but soft growl, trying not to disturb me, but I batted his hand away and slid it out with a yawn. I blinked at the number, then remembered the scrap of paper Jay's teacher had given me with his number on it. I hesitantly put it to my ear, pressing talk. "Uh, hello? Al? It's Fl-" I started nervously, but I was interrupted by a very incoherent stream of words.
"FLORA?! WHAT THE HELL HAVE I GOTTEN MYSELF INTO! I GET HOME TODAY AND THIS GUY SLAMS ME UP AGAINST A WALL WITH HIS EYES ALL GLOWY AND THEN THESE TWO ZOMBIES TRY TO TAKE A BITE OUT OF ME AND NOW I'M RUNNING DOWN A MAIN ROAD WITH A BUTCHER KNIFE AND MY DOG WITH NOWHERE TO GO 'CAUSE MY BOSS PROBABLY SOLD ME OUT! EXPLAIN MISSIE!" he screamed in panic, and I blinked a few times in shock. "You're running around with a knife?! What on earth are you thinking-"
"I'M NOT THINKING, I'M PANICKING! DID YOU NOT HEAR ANY OF MY EARLIER WORDS?! WHAT THE BLOODY HELL IS GOING ON!?" he screeched into the phone, and Alucard abruptly took it from me and put it on speaker. "Calm down. Who are you?" he asked calmly, and there was a moment of silence as I heard a few weak gasps from the other end. "Al Curtis. I'm a friend of Jay's, I taught her to hack n' stuff, now if I may be so bold, w-who are you?" he stammered, obviously in shock, if not downright comatose. "I work for the Hellsing Organization, who exterminate creatures such as the ones that assaulted you earlier this evening. I need you to remain calm and tell me your address, then your current location."
Al whimpered the names and numbers out, and I felt a twinge of worry. If this guy taught Jay, shouldn't he be just as unshakeable as she is? Or at least, a little more iron-willed? What scared him this badly? Did he get attacked by Radu? I thought with a gulp, and Alucard clicked the phone off and then made a face. "Integra's sending the soldiers out. He should be fine." he said dismissively, and I gave him a raised eyebrow as he sighed and ruffled my hair. "Don't worry. He'll be fine." he repeated firmly, sliding my phone back into my pocket as I sighed and curled into him, my previous drowsy state evaporated into worry and concern for Al, afraid and alone in a world that he had never before been aware of.
***Time Skip***
"Sorry about dragging you into all this. Well, I suppose you kinda looked into it on your own, but I mean, sorry about involving Jay in this n' stuff." He didn't respond, staring vaguely into space, and the dog at his feet whined a little. "Um, it's not all that bad, really. You've already met another vampire, you know, Seras. She was at the funeral with me." He shakily raised the coffee cup filled with some kind of hot drink to his mouth and took a slow sip. "Thanks." I jumped at his hoarse voice, and he lightly tapped one of his fingers against the mug. "Good stuff. Whiskey or something? 'S got alcohol." I anxiously rubbed the back of my head. "I don't really know…" I admitted sheepishly, and he nodded dully, placing it back down on the table.
"You want some Mori? It's really good." he said after a moment, showing the dog the mug as she cocked her head and made a questioning sound. He nodded as if she had given him a spoken response and put the mug back on the table. "She's really smart. Kinda like Baskerville." I said admiringly, and he tensed, his face hidden from me. "Baskerville? Like in Sherlock Holmes?" he asked shakily, and I nodded slowly. "Uh…yeah…" I mumbled, shuffling my feet. His head slid out of his hands and his forehead thunked against the table. "Baskerville. The Hound of Baskerville. Here." he repeated hollowly, and I fidgeted a little, confused. "Yeah…"
He waved a hand at me, still facedown on the table. "Oh don't mind me. Anything else I should know? Dracula in the closet or something?" he joked weakly, and I craned my neck to look down the hall. "Actually I think he's meeting with Integra but-" Al's choked yelp made me look back at him quickly, but I only saw his horrified eyes staring at me from the table. "I was kidding!" he spluttered, and I blinked at him. "Oh. Well he is." I said sheepishly, and Al made a long groaning sound, burying his face in his hands and running his finger through his hair. "Frankenstein?"
"We don't have one of those. I don't think it exists."
He nodded with a vaguely happy smile on his face. "Well, at least there's that tiny nod to sanity." he muttered, and I swallowed as Baskerville melted through the wall, smiling a doggy smile at me. Uh oh. Moriarty suddenly raised her head from her paws and made a growling sound, and Al's head whipped up to see the demon hound in all his glory, the many crimson eyes sprinkled amongst his shaggy black fur blinking innocently at the newcomers. "Hey Baskerville. Mori, Al, this is Black Dog Baskerville, or Baskerville. Baskerville, this is Al and Moriarty. They're friends." I said brightly, and Baskerville padded around Al's chair to blink politely at Moriarty. She stopped growling and cocked her head, and Baskerville grinned.
Mori's hackles started to raise again, but Baskerville suddenly leaned forward and licked her nose as she stopped and sneezed, looking surprised. "I do believe he just asked her out." Al said dryly, and both dogs turned and gave him an uncannily accurate impression of annoyance. Baskerville then turned back to Moriarty and nosed her shoulder. She replied with a soft wuffing sound, and his tail began to wave as he gave his large and sharp-toothed doggy grin. We had been laughing for several minutes when Alucard suddenly melted through the wall behind my back, making Al visibly tense and imperceptibly edge his chair away.
"So you are the hacker that Flora's friend was associated with?" he asked as he drifted one hand over my shoulder, as if physically reassuring himself I was right there. Al had to swallow a few times in his obvious fear. "Yes sir." he finally whispered, and I gave him an encouraging smile. "It's okay. Alucard doesn't hurt anyone unless Sir Integra lets him, and she won't let him hurt a civilian unless she has a very good reason." I told him brightly, and I felt Alucard's gloved hand tense on my shoulder in amused warning as Al gave me a shaky grin. "I'll remember that kid." he said, and Alucard suddenly tugged me away and guided me somewhat impatiently through the door. "He's not all that bad. I think he's just in shock." I said charitably as he scooped me up, grumbling to himself, and he broke off growling to nuzzle against my cheek."Don't like him." he muttered before he broke away again, and I smiled and leaned against his chest. "You don't like anyone."
As if by magic, his gloved hand found my hair and began raking through it uncomfortably, trying to settle himself. "He has this…scent about him. I don't like it." he hissed, and I leaned up to kiss his cheek. "Stop being so paranoid. It's probably from the vampires that attacked him or something." I reasoned, and he paused for a moment, then nodded grudgingly. "I suppose." he sighed, and I felt the air ripple around us and then grow damp and cool as he phased down to his basement room. His coffin was open, and I blinked in surprise as he gently placed me in it, but did not get in as well. "Alucard?" He paused as he reached for the lid, looking down at me. "You'll be safe here. If anyone else so much as touches my coffin I'll know before they can hurt you. You don't mind if the lid is closed, do you?" I shook my head silently and he smiled at me.
He leaned down and I felt the familiar tingle in all my nerves as his arms scooped me up and his mouth met mine as gently as it ever had. The kiss was soft and tender, and I felt his silky-gloved hand gently caress the back of my neck as he held me close to his chest. It ended with the taste of him on my lips, and he smiled again as he let me go and dragged the lid over his coffin. "Goodnight my huntress. Sleep well." he crooned, and the light cut out as I felt the heavy wood settle over me completely, closing my eyes and wiggling into the soft fabric that smelt exclusively of my vampire, burying my face in the soft pillow as I curled up, smiling against the black fabric.
