Boss Fights
Chapter 35
The minute Donald and Goofy walked through the doorway, they were greeted with the King's old house. It was a marvel to know that Mickey...the king they grew up from child to adult and to king had come from such a house. Then again, it had been years since thinking back to this time in their life. It was hard to remember details but looking back, this stuck out the most. Mickey and Minnie never lived together at the start and he had a literal bachelor pad he always brought them too. They enjoyed the times but it was whenever they could spare time. If Donald was remembering right too...when the castle was being built, Mickey had suddenly started to up and disappear at random. Either to avoid being seen as king or to make him a better one. The duck wasn't sure since back then, he had started to practice magic as he was told to become Mickey's royal mage. Lessons took most of his time even so getting time to see the future king was tense and always short lived.
The peace in the house didn't last long. The two standing eventually spotted what looked like a small black dot floating at the center of the living room. It looked harmless though. Goofy even seemed to be...studying what exactly this black dot could do and how this was the threat they had to fight. The mage was even tempted to go back for Sora and have him swipe at the dot with a single swing of the keyblade. Only after a few seconds did that tiny dot change into a massive black hole, sucking in everything but them. The king, having been home, walked downstairs and saw it but not them. Panicking and trying to keep whatever it was taking away from the space like hole. Only to fail and run off as Donald and Goofy took over. Due to Sora being gone though and not only this...hole to deal with. The Heartless turned all their attention on them. The two mentally thanked themselves for using potions and ethers to restore some of their strength but they were going to need a break on the ship after.
The two got the hole beaten to that dot form again and zeroed in on the Heartless. Taking each one down but just as they were close to defeating the last, that blasted hole grew and started to suck up the furniture once again. They zeroed in on it and took it down back to the dot form and saw more Heartless. Donald and Goofy then split their attention. The royal knight would handle the hole. Attacking it to keep it down as the mage attacked the heartless with his magic. It worked and the heartless were taken down as was that infernal black hole. It faded away and the two sighed and restored some of their strength once again with a few potions and ethers. The deed got their king to shake their hands and then wave as he ran back upstairs. With proud grins, they went towards the final window. The one that would reveal the plan. Goofy stood still as Donald walked over and pulled on the rope once more. Pulling apart the curtain and starting the screen right up where it left off.
Maleficent and Pete were still in the same spots before. She was looking through the door and seemed eerily happy. Even as she demanded that Pete listen as she stared at what they guessed was the cornerstone. Speaking about the castle being under construction which left the Cornerstone of Light and all the power it held atop a hill. Though, they left Sora there so it technically had a guard. They focused on the screen to avoid missing any details. Then she mentioned their friend. She said that even the keyblade wielder would be of no concern with how weak he looked leaning against the infernal ball of light. The two didn't hear Pete talk so this meant he wasn't sure what she was actually referring to. Even the name, when spoken by him, came with a confused, almost questioning tone. One to which the evil fairy stated that it was the one thing keeping them from taking the castle completely over with darkness. He made a muttered sound they couldn't quite hear nor their enemy could hear. Instead, she asked if he knew what he had to do and when he looked at her. Basically got ordered to prove his worth, not to fail and to make that castle hers without a mess to clean up. Despite the pity the two had, they weren't going to forgive Pete for this atrocity done upon their home.
Even as the first person view panned out to actually show Pete, muttering about not failing her. She was walking away when saying those things too. Stopping as if she was going to wish their enemy good luck but walking out of sight once again. Pete or at least the future one got the idea to smash the Cornerstone to smithereens. Walking to the door as he muttered he had to get his old steamboat back. Once on the hill, he walked to where Sora was at. Both seeing the brunet gently smack the sphere and then look up at Pete weakly.
"It's time for a little boat ride ya brat," Their enemy smirked at him.
The brunet's face wasn't shown since it faded there but they didn't stick around to even try and replay it. Knowing it wouldn't work as they ran back towards the door. They jumped through the door. Hoping to see the cornerstone and Sora there. Only to be met with both being gone. They looked around the hill and spotted the future Pete near the Waterway. Standing there as if eyeing the hill to make sure he got everything he came for. Once he nodded proudly, he turned and ran towards said Waterway. With the Cornerstone gone now, their home would be gone. With Sora in their hands, the battle would be worse off. They needed an extra hand but couldn't spare any minute getting help. Not with the Cornerstone gone at least. This meant the two had one path and it was to fight and get back the Cornerstone in hopes of getting their friend and their home back safely. A ringing made the two look around and then spot the cellphone Sora proudly flaunted whenever he had to make a call.
Donald walked over, picked it up and answered it, "hello, make it fast. Sora and the castle are in danger." He shouted as he had Goofy go ahead of him.
"Danger you say," A voice said. "Stay there."
He was hung up on before he could say he couldn't do so. Ending the call on his end, he pocketed the item and ran towards the waterway next. Steps made him stop and look back to see a cloaked figure. One he was going to stop until they walked right by him, demanding that he'd hurry and that any plans for attacking be saved for the one who had his friend. Donald had no clue who this guy was, who this...friend of his was but he really made a point. It made the mage even run past on short stubby legs to where Goofy was at. Pete from this time was crying and holding his face, which Goofy told him that their Pete decked him hard to inform him why the past one was crying currently. Then he said that the Cornerstone of Light was caged and pointed to it and then to the boat where their unconscious friend was at. Hopping onto said Steamboat, the future Pete started to laugh as he picked up...whatever it was he had pulled from nowhere and held it up. Using one hand to smack his but and state they couldn't follow him even if they wanted too. Even got called losers as whatever was in his hand got thrown at them.
The figure from before just knocked it back with...a very strange keyblade. It hit Pete and made him send another of those...flying things but got it slammed back in his direction. The last item Pete threw was a rusty old barrel and once again was sent back and knocked him out. It had sent the floating ship back to shore gave them the chance reclaim their friend and the cornerstone. All three ran towards it and met a barrier to the boat. Grumbling incoherent words of contempt towards it, they focused on destroying the cage around the sphere of light. All three making parts of the wooden cage break or splinter. They didn't have long though since the ship itself was still floating alongside the riverbed and it wasn't slow. It just didn't give them much time since the wood was pretty solid still plus they had to keep moving and attacking. Though luck was on their side as Donald was mostly using fire to weaken the wood now. It helped and it freed the cornerstone and sent Pete flying onto land and onto the past Pete. Only to have the figure kick both away. Either out of annoyance or just meaning to kick the future one for another reason.
"Alright, the castle is safe!" Donald said as the figure went to grab the brunet. "Hold it! You can't touch him!"
"I didn't come here to be told I couldn't help my friend," The figure stated, picking the keyblade wielder up anyways. "Besides, it looks like you can't even manage to fight a simple battle on your own right now. If you want me to help you wake him up, then I suggest you not point your weapon at me."
"Donald has a point. We don't know who ya are. I'm goofy, this here is Donald. If you are a friend of Sora's though, you gotta be Riku or that fella Axel right?" Goofy said, thinking outloud after introductions were made.
The cloaked figure got off the boat, still holding the brunet in his arms. He seemed almost amused at the royal knight's guess. Like he had been around this kind of behavior before. Did they know him from the last journey then? If they did, Donald would have remembered or at least Jiminy's journal would have said so. Either way, they weren't happy to see him holding the brunet in his arms. Granted Sora was basically useless at the moment. It just didn't give this...person any right to hold him as if he knew him. The royal mage was going to demand he hand back their only way to lock the door they had to find. He was stopped by the figure walking up the way marked Wharf. They followed him up to see Pete and Future Pete fighting. Well more like Captain Pete trying to fight and ending up with nothing but a fist to the face. Sending him to the ground once again, crying and holding his face in his hands. The future version of himself gleefully stating he was "wet behind the ears" and all cause he could pick on his past self. Donald and Goofy got between the two and only added to his laughter. He said they couldn't take him down without their precious keyblade wielder to back them up. When Pete went to add even more insults though, thunder stunning him and Goofy hurled himself towards Pete. Slamming him right up against the closet wall. It worked to get damage but Pete just "changed" the scenery by bringing in the flaming building from earlier. It was once again on fire. Spitting it out but they ignored it. Glancing only once to see the figure staying far from the battle with their unconscious friend in their arms still.
The two really did wish Sora was at least able to cast magic. Due to the past Pete constantly butting in, they had to go around him to even attack Pete. It didn't help that the fire being spit out would actually move to them and had to be attacked to be put out. It was annoying even more so when Pete changed to where that infernal black hole was located but now there were four walls blocking anyway out and away from it. Both Pete's in the same area did create only one advantage. If Donald did it right, he could stun the past Pete, spin him like a ballerina and then send him into Future Pete. Stunning him long enough for Goofy and him to attack once again. It was short and the stunt worked only once more but it did help. Only for Pete to once again change the scenery.
To the stupid canons! Donald casted thunder over and over until he was sure Pete was stunned which made the royal knight run and just bash him left and right. Sending him into the air, the ground, left and right all to let the royal mage drink some ether. It was just how things were before Sora arrived but more put together. It proved Pete wrong too. They could handle their own if needed. Yes, having three or more helped but they could handle their own battles and their friend was hurt by him. He hurt Queen Minnie and their home. Pete had earned this and by how Goofy was acting, even he was willing to deliver some swift justice to the heavy man. Once charged, he stunned Pete the minute Goofy had a fist headed his way. Things stopped though and he laughed between gasping for air.
"So I was wrong. You two pipsqueaks fight pretty good but how about this "change" eh?!" He said changing the scenery to the under construction castle.
The same platform high above the city even. THe two glared as they charged at him. Now he really was threatening the castle. He moved them here on purpose. Slamming his fists onto the ground like a petulant child, screaming "get out of my way" as if he had places to go. No way did they move though. Both just kept their relentless assault on him. Even if he blocked they attacked from another angle or in a different way. Pissing Pete off but it was felt great to finally deliver some justice to the person threatening their livelihood. Finally though, Goofy landed the finishing blow and sent all of them back to the Wharf. Both proudly watching the villain flee and hold up his hands long enough to summon the very door he and his peskiness had come through. The two watched it close and looked to see their friend somewhat awake and holding the keyblade in his hand with help from their strange friend. Locking it and looking to them sadly.
"Sorry...I tried to wake up," Sora told him.
"It's okay. You get some rest and we'll get you back to the ship safe and sound okay?" Goofy nodded, walking over and helping his friend stand. "You did a lot for us before this so consider it our way of thanking ya. Right Donald?"
"Yeah, you are going to sleep once we are back on the ship," Donald said helping him walk towards Captain Pete. "we got your ship back."
"Yep, and since you helped me catch the thief and drive him off. You can take for a spin if ya like. It's the best little craft on the river!" Captain Pete proudly boasted. "Besides, my deckhand Mickey is late anyways."
"Sound like fun Sora?" Goofy asked.
"Sounds like a blast," The brunet weakly laughed. "Thanks Captain."
Riku to the rescue!
