Chapter 36: Confirmation

Shouts-at-Sun's POV

Vara and I exited the prison's lower levels, arriving back in the courtyard. Immediately upon exiting, I spotted Lokhunnonvul sitting on the wall… much to Vara's surprise.

"Ah, Zaanahstkrein," said Lokhunnonvul, "How goes your attempt to find siizuk frey, additional aid for our endeavors?"

"Only marginally successful," I said, "Vara here is the only one present whose mind was still intact enough to be able to help us".

"Krosis," said Lokhunnonvul, "Odd though, faal Viimuz are not normally seen in this part of the world".

"Question: why is there a dragon here? I mean, there extremely uncommon to see in Akavir, but to see one here…"

"Long story," I said, "but suffice it to say, for various reasons, the dragons of Tamriel are willing to lend me their aid. Lokhunnonvul was the first dragon to align himself with me".

Vara's narrowed his eyes slightly, and then replied.

"You're the Dragonborn, aren't you?" said Vara, "the guards talked about you, most of it seemed like rumors, some more ridiculous than others".

"Yes, I'm the Dragonborn," I said, "How strange did the rumors get?"

"One story claimed you somehow cursed your foe, and had to parley with the madgod to get him back to normal," said Vara.

"Ah yes, I got quite the laugh the first time I heard that one," I said, "any others?"

"Well, there was one so fantastic that it defies any possibility of truth," said Vara, "this one claimed you took the form of a dragon yourself and fought your foe on even terms".

"…and you find that harded to believe than parleying with Sheogorath?" I said.

"Well… fine, I'll concede that point," said Vara, "an honor to meet you, Lokhunnonvul".

We continued on to the warden's office and evidence lockup. Vara proceeded to serch the evidence chest, and retrieved a small pack, as well as a pair of Akaviri blades, one a longsword and the other a dagger. He looked them over, and then nodded.

"At least they didn't damage my blades," said Vara, "I've got my belongings, so there no reason to stay here any longer".

We headed out again, and left the prison entirely, along with the rest of our forces. We moved on, heading for the government buildings to rejoin the rest of our army. I approached Sunders-the-Heart, wanting to see how his troops were doing.

"Good, you're here," said Sunders-the-Heart, "how were things on your end?"

"We only managed to find one prisoner who was still sane enough to be helpful," I said, "the rest…"

"I see," said Sunders-the-Heart, "we managed to get this far with fairly little difficulty. Your strategy of unsettling the Thalmor's forces with the dragons worked quite well".

We headed into the local governor's compound, followed by a group of soldiers in case there were any Thalmor guards lying in wait. We soon reached the govenor's office, where he was currently holed up. Sunders-the-Heart tried opening the door, but it was locked.

"It seems that we won't get in there some force," said Sunders-the-Heart, "would you like to do the honors?"

"Gladly," I said, "Fus… Ro… Dah!"

My Thu'um slammed into the door, and it burst open, hanging loosely on its hinges. The Thalmor official inside peeked up over the edge of his desk, trembling fearfully.

"W-what is the meaning of this blatant attack on our people," said the official.

"It has come to the attention of the people of the Empire of Tamriel that you government supports the idea of destroying the world we live in by unmaking it," I said, "as a result of this discovery, we have decided that these plans must be stopped".

"H-how did you learn of our ideals, lizard?" said the official, "such documentation was only to be shared with those in positions of power!"

"Not even going to try and deny the accusations?" I said, "surprising that you'd willingly admit you support tearing apart reality".

"It matter not that you know now," said the official, "with the Eye of Magnus in our grasp, nothing can prevent our rise to our true glory!"

"That is where you are wrong," I said, "I, with the people of Tamriel at my side, will stop the insanity the Thalmor plot, and free the world of your tyranny!"

I gestured for the soldiers to approach, and watched as they took him into custody. We left the office, letting those more experienced with such things handle the job of placing a interim governor for the city. We headed for the edge of the city, preparing to move on to our next objective.

Alinor

Arranelya stood atop the Crystal Tower once more, continuing to observe the progess on utilizing the Eye's power. Every day they drew closer to their goal of freeing themselves from this world, carried to their true glory by the Eye's gaze. Her spies in mainland Tamriel indicated that the Imperial Legion was deploying a major force in their direction. However, it didn't trouble her: soon, this world would be no more, and all those lesser races would never be allowed to be again.

The Eye stared out at those foolish mortal beings around it, digging deeper and examining their beliefs. It saw that they believed it to be: a fragment of a higher order being. Ah, it was so easy to control creatures which were so underdeveloped in terms of technology. They though it would allow them to unmake the fabric of reality… as to how the developed this strange rhetoric was beyond even its comprehension. It didn't really matter now: soon it would be ready to connect fully to the energies of this world, and everything would as it should.
