AN: OK, still got writer's block so chapter's a little short but I can wok from here. Just wanted to build suspense so, here you go...
We both turned to the door. The pounding was persistent and impatient. "Tris, bathroom, now," Tobias ordered quietly. Hurryingly, I rushed to the bathroom as Tobias strolled to the door carefully. I watched him through a miniature gap in anticipating silence.
"Who is it?" Tobias called in his "Four" voice. The pounding continued, loud and rude. Tobias stepped away from it, letting the violent knocking continue till it stopped. The silence that followed was short-lived when the door burst open.
A cool, creeping chill went through the house as Eric stepped passed the door in his slick, menacing atmosphere. Tobias immediately went rigid. An automatic ferocity overtook the sweet, playful Tobias figure I knew, making him Four again. An intimidating, still instructor.
"Sorry to burst your door like that but you should know Stiff, I don't like being kept waiting," Eric bellowed.
"What do you want?" Four asked with a hard look in his eyes.
"Max sent me. He wanted to inquire about a job he offered you some time back. Apparently it's very important and he wants to see you know," Eric said as he strolled into the apartment, casually examining the place. I swore he reminded me of someone I had seen before with his sharp glare and square face.
"What job is he talking about?" I whispered to myself.
"I told him I wasn't interested."
"Well he wants that said to his face..." Eric explained dully.
"I am now," Tobias continued shooting a look straight to the gap I peeped through. Eric went still before he twisted his head to Four in disbelief.
"What?" he inquired with a look of threat and surprise in his look.
"I want to take up the job offer. I'm ready for it," Tobias repeated. Anyone else could see he was confident but I knew he was hesitant.
"Listen Stiff, you don't know anything about this job. You're not ready!" Eric said. His nostrils flared furiously and his eyes looked murderous.
"Oh but I do Eric since he's been offering me this job since initiation. Remember that? When I, the Stiff, beat the almighty Eric."
"You didn't beat me," Eric denied in a terrifying cool tone.
"My rankings beg to differ," Four replied. He stood tall and proud, his bulging arms crossed against his rock hard chest. He looked taunting, like the Tobias who used to tease me in Abnegation when we were younger yet this teasing Tobias was cocky and grim.
Eric smiled as he shook his head slightly. Turning to Tobias, his smile twisted into a simple glare. "Your rankings were invalid. That moronic traitor we had as an instructor favoured you, I have no doubt he changed them." Eric stepped back victoriously as Tobias glared fiercely "But in the end, the truth was revealed. I became an important member of Dauntless and you were stuck training those low-life kids we call initiates. The truth is always revealed in the end. Oh and talking about truths, how is your darling initiate ?" Eric asked in a mocking tone as he wondering around the almost bare room.
This caught Tobias off for a second. Luckily, Eric couldn't see it but a flicker of surprise went through his face. "Which initiate?" Four asked still sounding confident and bored.
"Oh, you know? That small, fragile one with the limp hair and weak fighting technique. I think her name's Tish." Automatically I reached for my hair. "Bastard," I whispered to myself. I could tell Tobias felt the same way. His glower was lethal.
"How many times do I have to tell you Eric? I don't care for any of the initiates. I just want to pick out the future Dauntless and drop the rest. None of them matter to me," Four warned in a deep voice. I knew his words were fake, of course he cared but I found it hard to doubt his acting.
"Ok, alright. I understand Four," Eric replied in a gentle, suspicious voice. Silently, he strolled passed him as if he headed for the door however he stopped in his tracks. Eric turned to Four in one, plain movement. He looked sly and smug making shivers creep down my spine.
"What I don't get though is why one is hiding in your bathroom." Eric looked straight at the door but not directly at my face. I sucked in a barely audible breath as I slowly stepped away from the door. Eric's observation made my heart pound. I could see him approach as I backed away from the gap until my back toughed the sink. Eric was right behind the door, the door knob was turning incredibly slowly as my eyes darted rapidly looking for a solution...
