Meet the New Boss- S7E1
"How are you feeling today?" She said, sitting on the edge of the bed. Sam groaned and put his hand on her knee.
"I need a pick me up, honestly. You gotta stop feeding me all that soup, Lil. No one is supposed to have chicken noodle for all three meals every day." He chuckled softly. She ran her hand across his cheek and smiled. "So, is that a yes to a pick me up?" He grinned.
She shook her head. "Gemma is in her room. I've got her in the jumper so she'll only stay quiet for so long." She closed her eyes. She knew she had to tell him everything she had told Dean. Sam was her father, he needed to know. "Sam, there's something I have to tell you. It's about Gemma."
He grabbed her hand and squeezed it. "Tell me." He urged her.
"She's in danger. Worse, she's dangerous. I think...I think she's more powerful than I am. Eve picked me because of what I had, what I could do for her. And because of Gemma. She wanted to use her power for something. I don't know what for. And Cas...He hinted that he wanted to use her for something." His thumb ran over the palm of her hand. "Sam, I am terrified. What are we going to do?" She whispered.
"We raise her like you were raised. We make sure she knows how powerful she is and we always let her know that there are people who want to hurt her, use her or help her. And we're the people who love her the most." Lily let him wrap his hand around hers. "Dean still working on the car?" She nodded and said he never took a break. "I think I'll go help him out. Take Gems and teach her the ropes. Some of 'em at least."
Lily frowned. "She's not even a year old yet. She's not going to know what the hell you're talking about." She ended up laughing. She could only imagine Sam and Dean trying to show baby Gemma how to work on the Impala.
"But she's gifted. Everyone knows that. Her mind works faster than it should. She'll remember and I think it'll be good for me to spend time with her."
Lily pursed her lips. "Okay. She's asleep but she should be awake by the time you're dressed and everything. I'll find something to do around here."
"You're gonna want to see this. She's been glued to the TV since it started." Bobby told Sam and Dean. "She's sure it's him." He whispered.
Sam had Gemma in his arms. She was cradling his arm with one arm and her other hand was playing in his hair. She was giggling as he tickled her stomach.
"It's him. I know it's him." She snapped. "The woman they interviewed said he was wearing a trench-coat. A brown trench-coat and he said he was God. It's Castiel." She wrung her hands together, her knuckles white.
"Lil, I know you're scared. But we have to talk to him. That's all we can do." Sam told her.
Her eyes narrowed. He didn't understand. He wouldn't understand. She ran a hand through her shoulder length hair. She hadn't cut it in ages and it was getting long.
"Sam, he is dangerous now. Whatever he took in, it scrambled all his eggs. Talking to him is not going to make a difference. It's going to get us all killed. And then who is going to be there for Gemma? The system? She's special, Sam. And the only other person she trusts is Cas and I will not let him near my daughter."
"We have to try, Lily. He disbanded the Ku Klux Klan. He killed a preacher. And he's murdering motivational speakers. Lily, we have to try."
"Sam, she's right." Dean said quietly. Both of them looked at him. "Cas just took the swan dive off the deep end of the deep end. Besides, he's God now. And he's on a righteous kick. The best thing we can do is stay the hell out of the way and keep Gemma and all of our asses off the radar."
Sam closed his eyes. "Alright. We keep our asses off the radar. And we keep Gemma safe. But how? He's going to find us. And when he does, he finds Gemma."
Lily licked her lips slowly. Gemma. Keer her safe. "Enochian sigils. I can make them strong enough to hide her from...everything. Even our new Lord and Savior. But it's going to hurt her. A lot."
"And that'll probably cause a major storm somewhere. And he'll get suspicious." Sam continued. "Which is why we take her somewhere far away." Lily nodded. Dean put his hand on her shoulder. "But how do we make sure Cas doesn't get us after?"
Dean's eyes lit up. "Lil, you can do that thing you did in Heaven. How you found me. Just...do that teleportation thing. Get her there. Do the sigils and get back. Easy peasy lemon squeezie."
Sam and Lily looked at each other. For Gemma. Anything for Gemma. Lily reached over and grabbed his hand gently. "It's the only way." She whispered.
Lily picked Gemma up from her bed. "Hi princess. You and Mommy are going to take a quick little trip. We'll come right back home though. But listen, you can't tell anyone. Our little secret." Gemma's green eyes brightened. "Close your eyes baby." And just like that, they were standing on a cliff, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The water sparkled in the sunlight, a beautiful light blue that faded into a darker shade. Lily sat down and put Gemma in her lap. "Isn't it beautiful here, Gems? This is your Mommy's favorite place. Uncle Gabe used to bring me here when I was good. This is where your daddy asked me to marry him."
Lily took a deep breath. She ran her hand along Gemma's small stomach, creating a circular pattern with her fingers. Slowly, she raised up her daughter's shirt. "Baby, this is going to sting a little. But you have to be quiet okay? There are people who want to hurt you and this is going to keep you safe. I would do anything for you which is why Mommy has to do this right now. So please, please understand Gemma. Because Mommy loves you so damn much."
She closed her eyes and gave Gemma's stomach a gentle press. Gemma's little body squirmed under the pressure. Lily murmured the words quietly under her breath as Gemma's wriggles became more terrified. Lily tried to calm her down but she couldn't. She glanced over the cliff at the water. The waves were no longer calm and serene, but crashing against the rocks. The sky was turning darker and darker with every word she said, with every single one of Gemma's squirms. Lily exhaled and finished the chant. She sighed and looked down at Gemma. Her eyes were no longer green, no longer innocent. The whites were black and her irises were white. "Oh my God." Lily whispered.
After realizing what she said, Lily closes her eyes. She clutched her daughter to her chest tightly and thought of home. Bobby. Dean. Sam. Sam. Sam.
"Is it done?" His voice resonated. She opened her eyes. Sam and Dean were standing in front of her. "Lily?"
She looked down at Gemma. Her eyes were closed. "I did it. It's done. Get her away from me. I can't look at her right now. Please get her away from me." She practically shoved the child into Dean's arms. Her eyes burned. "I have to go. I can't be here right now." She turned around and left out the back door. The salvage yard wasn't her favorite place. But it was quiet and it was private. She found an old truck and climbed in the bed, resting her head against the back window.
The tears came like a storm. How could this happen? She had done everything she was supposed to. She had taken good care of Gemma, she had done everything.
"Lily, you should come inside. Gemma's asleep upstairs. Bobby's got a pretty good lead on something." She was surprised it wasn't Sam. Dean knew. Dean understood. Sam didn't. He wouldn't understand. "It's Crowley. He wants to get Crowley here." Crowley. Yes. That was a good idea. She let Dean help her down from the bed of the truck. He slung his arm over her shoulders. "Did something go wrong?" He whispered. She said no. Everything went perfectly.
They went into the house like nothing went wrong. Bobby and Sam were waiting for them, a Devil's Trap on the floor. "Hurry up and do it. I want to see my favorite uncle." Lily said. Sam looked at Bobby and nodded. Bobby said the words and Crowley appeared, a glass of amber liquid in his hand.
"Ah. My three favorite hunters and my favorite cambion. I was wondering when you would find me. But send me back. My new boss will really lay it to me."
Lily raised her eyebrows. "You mean Castiel? Listen to me, Fergus. You're going to tell us what we want to know because I'm tired of this bullshit. Do you understand me?" Her eyes were black.
Crowley's lips curled into a small smile. "Fine. Start conspiring. I'm listening."
"We want the spell that binds Death. You can do that, can't you?" Dean asked.
Crowley looked at Lily. She nodded. "I don't remember it, but I know you do."
"You must be joking if you think you can handle that kind of power. The only reason Lucifer could do it was because he was Lucifer."
"Do you honestly believe I would let three humans bind themselves to Death? Get real, Fergus. He's going to be bound to me." Lily smirked. Her favorite Horseman. The ultimate protection. "Death is the only person who can level Castiel out. Besides, you really don't want him running the world, do you?"
"You ready to do this?" Sam whispered. She didn't look at him but said she was as ready as she would ever be. "Where's Gemma at this time?" She said her friend was taking care of her. Like he always did. Bobby's Latin was scratchy but it got the job done.
"Lillian. It's so good to see you. I like your new vessel. Though, it doesn't suit you as well as the old one did." Lily's lips quirked into a smile as she stepped forward and hugged the Horseman. "Though you must be joking. Because it seems as you've bound me. To yourself."
"It was the only way. I'm sorry." She sighed.
"You know the rules Lillian. One wall per client. I cannot help you."
She shook her head and said that wasn't what they wanted. "We want you to kill God." Dean told him.
Death raised his eyebrows. "And who told you I could do that?" Dean said he did. And Lily.
Death and Dean looked at Lily. But she wasn't looking at them. "Castiel." Her eyes were fixed on the deteriorating man in the brown trench-coat.
"This is simply amazing. But now I'm going to have to kill you."
Lily crossed her arms over her chest. "You can't. Not with Death as our little bitch." Dean told him.
Death raised his eyebrows. "Can't argue with that. Not like you have the time anyways, Castiel. Your vessel is going to explode. And take you with it."
"I will heal myself once my work is done." Castiel insisted.
"You won't be able to. Not with those monsters wrestling around inside you. You've got the old players in there." Death smiled.
Lily stepped towards Castiel. "May I?" She asked quietly. "I want to feel." He nodded once and unbuttoned his shirt. She almost puked. They bulged out from his stomach. "Shit." She bent down and put her hands on his stomach. "I warned you, Cas. I told you to stop but you wouldn't listen. You refused to listen to me. You voluntarily took the Leviathans into your body and now they want back out. Whatever happens is on you." She stood back up.
"Wait. What are the Leviathans?" Dean asked.
"God's oldest creation. They were the deadliest monsters ever created. So God locked them away but now Castiel has let them out. And once he's gone, they're loose and the world goes down." Death explained.
"I did a service. I am cleansing the world." Castiel said.
"You think you are a God, Castiel but I know God and you are not Him." Death said.
Castiel narrowed his eyes. And then he was gone. Lily slammed her fist against the wall. "We are fucking screwed." She groaned.
Death looked at her. "Do you want my honest opinion, Lillian? Give him what he wants so you don't end up screwing the entire world over."
She looked over at him, her eyes black. "Fuck no. Hell fucking no. How the fuck could you suggest that? She is a baby. She is my only child."
"Have another one." He suggested.
She couldn't say the words. Not with Sam there. "I need another way. Give me another way." She pleaded.
"Get him to return the souls to Purgatory. Do it quickly. I'm sure the lab has everything you need. Get him there and make him return it. If you want your daughter safe." She asked him about the eclipse. "I'll make you another one. Sunday morning, three fifty-nine. And if you ever try to bind me again, I will kill you."
Lily sat in the rocking chair, Gemma in her arms. "You were all I had, Gems. You were all I ever wanted when your daddy left. I can't lose you." Gemma was long past asleep but she didn't care.
"Lily, you gotta talk some sense into Dean. He's completely given up." Sam said, entering the room. Lily looked up at him.
"Don't worry about him. I'll fix it." She said softly. He took Gemma from her and put her in her bed. Sam asked her if she was worried about Cas finding Gemma. She said no. "Sam, you could have told me. I would have understood." He asked her what she meant. "The hallucinations. We promised. No more lies, Sam." Hypocrite, she told herself. Tell him. Tell him.
"I'm sorry. I thought I had it under control. I wanted to put it all behind us." She nodded and said she understood.
"We need to fix Castiel."
"Thank you, Lillian. And I apologize, for everything I have done. And for wanting to use Gemma. She is only a child. The only one you will ever have. And I love her as you love her. Tell her I'm sorry." Cas whispered.
She locked her jaw. Where was Sam with the blood? He needed to hurry. Damn this body for being fragile. Damn this body for fucking her over. She wanted her old body back. She wanted another baby. She wanted a big family. Sam's family.
"Castiel, do this and everything is fine. All is forgiven and we're okay." She reminded him. "Bobby. Open the door." She ordered.
Bobby said the chant and the portal opened. Cas looked back at them one last time before stepping through. Lily and Dean looked at each other. "Bobby, please go find Sam." She said as Castiel's body came back out of the portal. He landed on his side, his eyes closed.
"Cas?" Dean said softly. "Cas?" Dean moved towards him but Lily grabbed his arm.
"Do not touch him." She hissed. "I don't think he's alive, Dean. He's not breathing."
"What if angels don't need to breathe?" He retorted. She looked at him, eyebrows raised.
Cas sat up, eyes wide open. "That was not fun. But I am alive." Lily smiled and helped him up. She hugged him tightly. Underneath his skin, something moved. Lily jumped back.
"Shit. Holy fucking shit." She whispered.
"Get back. Both of you, get back!" Cas shouted. "They stayed. They didn't want to let go."
"Leviathan." Lily grabbed Dean's hand. "We have to go."
She pulled his arm, but he wouldn't budge. "Cas? Buddy, you can fight them. I know you can."
Cas smiled at them. "Castiel is gone. I think this will be fun."
