As her eyesight came more into focus a sense of relief rushed through Quinn's body….she was still alive it seems. She moved her head slowly and took in her girlfriends sleeping form her heart skipped a beat as usual which pleased her even more. She wondered what the time was…. how long had she been out? A movement to her left caught her attention and she turned to see her Mom asleep in another chair…..ok obviously out long enough for her Mom to get here. Her head was still pretty cloudy and she could feel a dull ache in her abdomen. Santana moved slightly and her top slipped off her shoulder revealing the red strap of her bra…..Quinn smiled to herself she remembered Santana whispering to her that she was wearing it and she was glad that it wasn't a dream after all. She brought her left hand up to her lips she was sure she could still taste her girlfriend on them and it was the best thing in the world. Judy's hand moved across the bed searching for Quinn's subconsciously when it couldn't be found she opened her eyes and sat forward. Her mouth dropped open when she saw Quinn's eyes open but before she could say anything Quinn bought her finger up to her lips to instruct her to be quiet. Judy stood and moved up beside her.

"Hey baby girl you are a sight for sore eyes" she whispered

"What time is it Mom?" her voice was barely audible she needed to clear her throat but wanted to let her girlfriend sleep.

"It's 20 past 10 honey"

"Great so I haven't missed the whole of Christmas night then?"

"Oh no Quinnie you are a couple of days late for that"

Quinn's eyes opened wider, she thought she had only been out for a few hours not a couple of days.

"Is everything ok… like with me?" She wiggled her toes everything seemed to be working ok.

"You had some pretty major surgery which the doctors can explain; you won't however be ok if you don't wake sleeping beauty up over there"

Quinn smiled and looked back at Santana

"I'm guessing she hasn't had much sleep?"

"No honey neither of us have you had us really worried"

"She looks like an angel"

"She is your angel Quinn it's been a rough couple of days for her"

Quinn moved her hand out of the Latinas grasp and stroked her cheek, like it was second nature Santana immediately turned her cheek into her hand more.

"mmmm that feels good baby" she mumbled

Quinn had to stop herself from laughing

She whispered quietly "And in 5, 4, 3…."

Santana's eyes shot open when it finally registered that she was indeed being touched by her girlfriend and it wasn't a dream.

"Quinn" She stood up so quickly the chair she was in went tumbling backwards making a very large and very loud noise.

"We can't take you anywhere huh baby"

Soft lips were on hers before anything else could be said and they remained on hers even when the doors to the room were flung open by a nurse coming to investigate the disturbance.

"I'll get a doctor" the nurse said before smiling at Judy and leaving again.

"Oh my god Q I love you, I was so worried, are you ok, do you have any pain, do you need anything? A doctor I'll get a doctor"

"Hey slow down baby and give me those lips again" Santana wiped the tears from her cheeks that had escaped her eyes and brought their lips together once more it felt so good to have her actually kissing her back.

Two Doctors entered the room and went about checking machines and writing on charts patiently until they broke the kiss.

"We'll let you get back to that shortly Miss Fabray I just need to ask a few questions if that is ok?"

Quinn nodded and entwined her fingers with her girlfriends.

"Do you know what day it is?"

"Well I kind of thought it was still Christmas Day but my Mom has told me otherwise"

"How about your full name?"

"Doc come on" Santana groaned

"I'm sorry its protocol when you have been out for a few days"

"Calm down baby….My name is Quinn Fabray"

"Ok do you remember what happened to you?"

"I was in a car accident, a black truck just came straight at us" Santana's jaw tensed she would still very much like to get her hands on that guy.

"And everything else seems familiar you don't have any blanks in your memory that you can think of right now"

"No I think I'm all good"

"Ok that's great; your pulse is good too. How is your pain?"

"Well I feel ok should I be in pain?"

"You have had major surgery which we will definitely require us to monitor your pain and you need to tell us if you feel uncomfortable, would you like me to go over your surgery with you? It can wait till the morning if you would rather get reacquainted with your family"

Quinn squeezed Santana's hand and nodded "Tomorrow sounds good"

"Ok try and not over do things Miss Fabray, I will come and check on you again shortly"

The three of them talked quietly for a few minutes before Judy rose to her feet.

"Ok my beautiful girls I'm going to pop out and make some phone calls" Judy smiled at them both and it that moment she couldn't have felt more blessed.

"Can you ring my parents Mrs F?"

"I have them on speed dial sweetie I will call them first, I will be back shortly" She kissed the top of Quinn's head and quietly left the room.

"So our folks have met then" Quinn grinned at Santana

"Yeah they seem to like each other"

"Well that's good, is your Abuela doing ok?'

"Yeah she went home today actually, she left you her necklace…..I don't know what you did Q but it seems you can make anyone fall in love with you"

Quinn lifted her hand and touched the small cross.

"Actually I think your gran totally told me off"

"What do you mean?"

"I'm sure she was here and basically told me to hurry up and wake up"

Santana laughed….

"So you could hear stuff going on?"

"Bit and pieces I guess, I remember a comment about your new lingerie" She winked at the brunette

"Ha ha it's really comfy I would show you but we don't want your heart rate to go through the roof"

"That's probably a good idea"

"Rach, Kurt and Britt are here"

"Really? Wow it's really sweet that they came for you"

"Not just for me baby they were worried sick about you"

"I didn't mean to worry you all my love"

"I know honey"

Quinn yawned softly

"You tired?"

"You would think with all the sleep I've obviously had I would be wide awake"

"Why don't you have a snooze I'll be right here"

"It would be better if you were right here" Quinn patted the side of the bed

"I do believe hospitals should make double beds you know"

"Who needs a double" Quinn shifted herself over to the side slowly

"Honey please be careful"

"I'm fine San are you getting in or what?" The pain was rather excruciating actually but totally worth it if it meant having her girlfriend beside her.

Santana didn't need to be asked again she kicked her shoes off and slipped in beside her girlfriend

"I missed you so much Q"

"I told you I'd come back to you my love"

Santana cupped her cheek and kissed her gently, before cuddling into Quinn's side.

When Judy returned 15 minutes later she found them both in a deep sleep. She smiled and took out her phone this was too cute a sight not to capture.

Quinn sat in her bed the following morning she was bored beyond belief and she hated hospitals. Santana had finally gone home albeit reluctantly to gather some things and make some calls etc. her Mom had gone with her to get some proper rest, The Lopez's had opened their home to her as well and Quinn couldn't be more grateful. The doctors had already been in and explained everything to her so now she could only sit and wait. She had begged them to have a shower but she was told she wouldn't be allowed one for quite a few days yet, a nurse offered her a sponge bath but she opted to wait for her girlfriend to return to help her with that one. The door opened just as she was about to re-read a magazine she had already read twice and she couldn't be happier when Kurt and Brittany walked in.

"Hey gorgeous" Kurt smiled and gave her a small kiss on her cheek

"I'm so glad you are ok" Brittany added

"Thanks guys, I'm so happy you guys are here I was about to go stir crazy"

"Yeah I bet it's not much fun this place is so drab" Kurt stated as she looked around the bare dull coloured walls.

"Drab is an understatement alright"

"We can bring you some things to liven it up" Brittany said excitedly it would be good to feel useful.

"That would be lovely Britt thanks but don't go too overboard I don't wish to get too comfy here"

"When will you be able to go home? Are you able to get a transfer to a hospital closer to home?"

Kurt hoped she would as it would mean more people would be able to visit; Blaine was worried sick at home.

"I think they are liaising with West general today so hopefully real soon"

Both Brittany and Kurt nodded they were booked on a flight back home the next day, Rachel had left her return open so she could be there for Santana.

"Where's Rach?"

"Santana called her earlier and said she was at home so Rach went there, she will come back with Santana I imagine"

"Ok that's great"

A nurse entered quietly and smiled to them all she had a plastic bag in her hand which made Quinn cringe what were they going to get her to do now.

"These are your personal belongings Miss Fabray; they were removed from you when you were brought into the ED"

Quinn thanked her and took the bag from her hand; she immediately opened it and took out the chain that Santana had given her and her engagement ring.

"Do you want me to put that on for you?" Brittany queried pointing to the chain.

"Yeah thanks that would be good"

"Do you want me to take this one off?" Brittany asked as she fastened it around Quinn's neck

"No leave that on too thanks its San's grandmothers and I'd hate to lose it"

"Wait you mean Carmen gave this to you?"

"It's on loan she put it around my neck before she left yesterday"

"Wow so she was ok with you?" Brittany was amused Quinn seemingly had a knack with San's family something she never had.

"At first she seemed a little stand offish but we got there in the end" Quinn smiled at the blonde she wondered if this was at all hard for Brittany to hear.

"That's great it will mean so much to San if you guys get on well and by the sounds of it Maribel and Carlos love you too"

"Yeah they are a lovely family"

"What's that?" Kurt queried the small red box still in the bag.

"Oh that's something for Santana"

"Aww cute did you buy her jewellery…..come on let's see" Kurt was like a small child bursting with excitement.

"Well technically no I didn't buy it"

"Please tell me you are not adding jewel thief to your list of accomplishments Miss Fabray" He said in a mock shocked tone.

"Ha ha not anytime soon Kurt…It's actually an engagement ring"

Both Kurt and Brittany squealed with delight.

"But wait you didn't buy it?" Kurt asked confused.

'No this is why Carmen and I went to her house she gave me this to give to Santana"

"Wow you really did win the old bird over huh…..can we see it?" he was practically in the bed with her which made Quinn giggle

She removed the box and opened it slowly; it really was a breath-taking ring.

"Wow its gorgeous" Kurt took the box in his hand and held it at all angles.

"It's also very Santana" Brittany added a small pang of jealousy hit her in the stomach but she willed it away, she really was happy for the both of them.

The 3 friends sat and talked for quite some time, Brittany took the time to file Quinn's nails for her and rub in some moisturiser. They were in the middle of watching some cheesy soap opera which Kurt had muted and was providing commentary for leaving the two blondes in hysterics when Santana and Rachel arrived.

"You guys are going to get kicked out of here you know…..we could hear you down the hall" Santana smiled as she made her way to Quinn's bed and kissed her she went to pull away but Quinn pulled her closer and deepened their kiss.

"Ahem shall we go?" Rachel piped up

Quinn broke out into a grin, kissing Santana was definitely addictive.

"Hey Rach"

"You had me so worried Quinn"

"She had everyone worried short stuff" Santana threw back sarcastically; Quinn squeezed her hand a signal to be nice before answering.

"I know I'm sorry to everyone! But seriously thank you guys for coming it means so much to me"

"There is nowhere else we would have been Quinn" Rachel rubbed her arm lightly.

"Hey you got your necklace back" Santana stated when she caught sight of it properly

"Yeah that reminds me they gave me my ring back also but I wanted you to do the honours if you will baby"

"No problem with me"

Quinn passed her the ring from the table beside the bed and Santana slipped it on easily.

"Can I just propose like every week till we actually get married?"

"Absolutely" Quinn chuckled and kissed her girlfriends hand.

"Any ideas where my phone is at?" She queried her girlfriend

"The police probably have that as that's how they rang me I'm sure you will get it back soon I would imagine they will want to talk to you….oh and before I forget Mom and Dad send their love they will come up this afternoon they don't want to over crowd you"

"Aww that's nice god I feel like such an idiot for ruining everyone's Christmas"

"Well ok the situation isn't ideal but hey we now have 3 of our best friends with us"

Rachel, Kurt and Brittany all laughed at that statement

"Next time just ask Quinn you don't have to go driving into another vehicle to get us to come and visit" Kurt laughed and ducked to dodge the magazine that was thrown at him by the blonde in the bed.

"Holy cow major surgery and you can still throw like a ball player remind of this when you are better we have a social baseball team at work that I could ring you in for"

"I am not playing baseball Kurt"

"Oh come on help a sports challenged friend out" he pouted at her and made puppy dog eyes.

"Arghhhhh quit with the eyes….maybe is all I'm saying"

"Great"

"Hey Kurt should we pop out and get a few bits for Quinn" Brittany suggested which was readily agreed on…. Kurt didn't need to be asked twice to go shopping.

As soon as the door closed behind then Santana turned to Quinn with a smile on her face.

'You do realise with those two shopping you are going to get rainbow colours, unicorns, feathers you name it right"

"Hey anything has to be better than what I have"

"This is true"

"Oooh AFV is on" Rachel said excitedly and ran to turn the TV up so they could hear.

"I don't know if all this laughing is good for you Q" Santana groaned

"Come join me baby" Quinn once again moved to the side to make room for her.

"Hey Q" Santana whispered quietly not to disturb an engrossed Rachel

"Yeah hon?"

"Don't ever leave me ok"

"I'm here baby and I'm not planning on going anywhere"

"Good...perhaps we can live a nice quiet life from now on?"

"Sounds good to me"

"Mmm me too"

Santana snuggled up to her as closely as she could

"You know what else sounds good?"

"What's that?"

"Later after everyone is gone you get to give me a sponge bath"

Santana lifted her head and grinned

"I think I better text Kurt and ask him to buy me a hot nurses outfit what do you reckon?"

"I think Kurt would be sick ha ha….besides you are hot enough in what you are wearing"

"Can I kick the midget out now and get started?"

"Charming Santana you could at least pretend that having me here is a good thing" Rachel replied in an offended tone

Quinn chuckled and rubbed her shoulder, causing the smaller brunette to wink at her.

"I love that you are here Rach you know that but if it comes to a choice between you and a naked girlfriend…..no points for guessing which option will win"

Rachel rolled her eyes at her friend

"I'm staying so get your thoughts out of the gutter until later"

"Fine you can stay but my thoughts stay where they are capeesh?"

The three of them turned their attention back to the TV, the banter between the two friends always made Quinn smile and right now it was just the distraction she needed from the throbbing pain in her side.
