Chapter 33
Healing
Third Person POV
When the energy stopped, Arch brought Yusei's arm away and Yusei looked to see the black mark of poison slowly disappearing and out of her system. But Jayla was completely passed out and didn't look like she was waking up anytime soon. Arch looked at the metal and sighed.
"I'm afraid this injury will need to be dealt with by your doctors," Arch stated. He looked up at his waiting master. "I must go." He got up. "Yusei," he called looking away and Yusei turned to him, "take care of Star."
"I will, Arch," Yusei agreed and Arch flew off.
"Yusei, are you alright?!" Rally called as he and his friends.
"I'm fine but I need to get Jayla help," Yusei stated pulled his sleeve back up and covering his wound before they could see it.
"I'll help you with that, Yusei," Crow told him. "Get Jayla and hop on behind me."
"Right," Yusei agreed and he carefully picked up Jayla.
"You guys can catch up," Crow told his friends.
"Right," they agreed and the two friends hurriedly left with Yusei holding Jayla in his arms.
When they arrived at Martha's, Crow told Yusei, "I'll go get Martha. We should move her until we have to. With how bad that is."
"Right," Yusei agreed.
Crow banged on the door calling out, "Martha! Martha! It's me! Crow! Open up!"
Martha slowly opened the door. "It's the middle of the night, Crow. This better be good," she told him.
"No, this is bad! Real bad!" Crow stated and pointed to Jayla in Yusei's worried arms.
"What happened?" Martha asked and shook her head. She turned behind her. "I need hands out here people!"
Jayla was quickly brought into a room where Martha and Doctor Schmitt began to operate trying to save her life once again.
Yusei sat on the stares, eyes closed in stress as he waited for the news. 'Jayla, you promised me you wouldn't do this again,' he thought worried. 'Last time was bad enough but this… I'm not going to let you die, Jayla. I will never let you die because of me.'
"Do you think she'll be alright, Yusei?" Crow asked.
Yusei looked at him. "For once since I've met her, I'm not sure. The last time she was hurt similar to this, she was just stabbed with ice shards and those were as bad as what this was. And she was already weak enough from that poison," he replied.
"What did that one guy do when he got to you and Jayla anyway? Who was he?" Crow asked.
"His name's Arch. He's Red Dragon Archfiend's living dragon form and Jack's Dragon Protector," he explained. He showed his orange haired friend the small area that Arch had poked into to get his blood. "He used my blood and said it was part of my bond between me and Jayla. He said it would save Jayla from the poison and it seems like it did."
"At least that poison is out of her system," Crow stated. Yusei gave a small nod in agreement.
They turned as Rally and the others came in half-naked. Crow nearly laughed and Yusei asked, "What happened?"
"We kind of brought your runner with us. And we had to pay a lot of tolls," Nervin answered.
Yusei sighed. "I'll at least go get you a few blankets. It's the least I could do," he told them.
"Thanks, Yusei," Rally responded as Yusei went up to grab them with Crow following to help.
"How worried are you about Jayla?" Crow asked as they grabbed the blankets.
"More than I can put into words," Yusei answered.
"You love her, don't you?" Crow asked and Yusei looked at him. "You know you can't hide anything from me."
"Yeah, I know," he responded. "And, to be honest, I do. But Jayla has her own conflict between who she feels for. Me or Arch."
"What do you mean?" Crow asked.
"Apparently, Arch and Jayla are destined to be together as she told me. But she feels something that she doesn't understand or know for both of us. She doesn't know who she wants to be with more because she doesn't want to hurt the one she doesn't choose," Yusei explained with his eyes closed. "I'll respect her decision either way. It's probably one of the hardest decisions to make."
"I can get that. Choosing between a destiny you were shown or your heart," Crow responded. "It probably would be tough."
"Let's just get the blankets to the others," Yusei suggested and Crow nodded. They walked downstairs and handed out the blankets.
Once everyone had their blankets, they all sat down waiting for the update on Jayla's condition. For Yusei, it felt like years had gone by before Martha opened the door. They all stood up immediately.
"How's Jayla?" Yusei asked.
"She should make a full recovery," Martha informed.
"She just needs to rest for a while but she should be fine," Doctor Schmitt informed and everyone sighed in relief.
"Yusei, keep her resting," Martha stated and he looked at her. "I can already tell by the scars she has that she's been through a lot. And from what I could tell, she will only listen to you."
Yusei nodded. "I'll keep her down once she wakes up," he told her. Martha nodded and the half-naked group sneezed in unison.
"Sounds like you've got yourselves a nasty cold there," Martha stated. "I'll go make some soup."
She then walked to the kitchen and began to make the soup. After everyone's each, though Yusei held off, Martha sent everyone to sleep for the night.
