Chapter 36: From Good to Bad.

You have to learn to believe in the ones you love, and that having faith towards that person, is all they need to get by. That's what Ally's mom had told her, and Ally had forgotten it, until now.

They were staying in the hospital for however long they needed to. Austin had kept Ally out of the ward, whilst Cal, Alice, and Frederick removed the fluid from Nathan's brain. He had, had to pin her down just get her to stop moving, because she wanted to be in there with him.

They'd finished, and it was around 3 o'clock in the morning. Ally had run out of tears, leaving her eyes red raw. She was sat next to the hospital bed Nathan was on. He was asleep, still under the influence of the anesthetic.

Cal had told them both that they needed to wait and see if he wakes up, and it was all a waiting game. She rested her chin in her hand, and she stared at his tiny frame.

"He's going to be okay," Austin walked in, and crouched down in front of her.

"You don't know that," She whispered.

"I do, because he's our son. His a survivor, and a fighter," Austin explained and he grabbed her hand, which was resting in her lap.

"How are you being so calm?"

"I've had a lot of experience with bad situations, it's best not to think about the bad, and instead think about the good."

"So, you really believe he's going to wake up?"

"Yeah, I do. Faith is all you need," He reached out, and cupped the side of her face. She sank into his touch, and sighed. "He'll wake up."

...

"Shouldn't you be in there with Ally, she is your cousin after all?" Gregory walked up next to Jaime, who was watching the fence, which surrounded the hospital.

"They need time alone," Jaime replied. "And don't tell me what I should be doing."

"I was only saying," Gregory glanced at her, but she shook her head.

"There's no need," Jaime pulled out her knife, and walked up to the fence. "We can't stay here long."

"Why not?" Gregory stepped up next to her, and she looked at him.

"The creepers will come up to the fence soon," Jaime explained, turning away from him, and observing the area.

"You don't know that."

"They always do," Jaime whispered, and glanced down at her feet.

"Hey, guys!" They both turned around, and Roxana made her way over. "Have you seen Billy anywhere?"

"No," Gregory replied.

"He's with his dad," Jaime replied, flatly.

"Where?"

"I don't know. I didn't ask, and what's it to you anyway," Jaime narrowed her eyes at Roxana, and Roxana scowled.

"They're my family," Roxana growled, and Jaime laughed.

"No, Derek's just the guy you fuck, and left Ronny for, because you're a typical slut, going from man to man, because you think that they will always keep you safe. You leech of human beings, and suck them dry, because that's all your useful for. Oh, and Billy isn't your son, he's Derek's, who lost his wife, and still hasn't come to terms with it, and to be quite honest, I'm pretty sure you're just a way to pass time. Then, to add to that, you assume you're the closest thing Billy has to a mom, but you're not. Ally is his mom, and you're never going to be his mom, okay? So, how about you go and leech off someone else, I'm done looking at your face."

Roxana screeched, then stomped her foot. She swivelled on her heel, and marched away.

"Now, what the hell was that all about?" Gregory asked, an amused look on his face.

"I don't like her," Jaime crossed her arms. "The only reason why I know all of that is because no one ever hears me when I'm around. I happen to be very light on my feet, and wherever my feet take me, I go...quietly."

"So, you were spying?"

"I prefer...snooping. Make's me seem less like a bitch," Jaime smirked, and Gregory laughed.

...

"How is he doing?" Wayne walked into the room, and Ally glanced back at him.

"He still hasn't woken up," Ally replied, and Wayne squeezed her shoulder.

"He's going to wake up," Wayne said firmly, and Ally just hummed back at him. Austin had left to go check on Jess, and Nevil. He had asked Ally to come with him, but she refused to leave Nathan's side. "You should get some fresh air."

"I'll get fresh air, when he wakes up," Ally grumbled, and shifted in the chair.

"Ally, you need to be positive," Wayne reminded her, and she shook her head.

"It's easy for you to say," Ally glanced at him, then back at Nathan. "You'd be the same if it was Jaime."

"I would, yes, but I know that you got to stay positive," Wayne grabbed another chair, and sat down next to her.

"What was she like, your wife?"

"I don't have a wife."

"I'm sorry, your ex-wife," Ally corrected herself.

"She was nice, up until she got pregnant with Jaime," Wayne explained.

"What do you mean?" Ally wondered.

"Caught her trying to drink, and smoke, whilst she was pregnant. She never touched any of that stuff before she was pregnant, and I knew something wasn't right. Apparently, she went to go and get an abortion, but she couldn't go through with it, but she still didn't want the baby. Then when Jaime was born, she wanted to put her up for adoption, but I wouldn't let her. I took her, and she handed over full custody of Jaime, then we got a divorce, and I never saw her again after that."

"Wow," Ally whispered. "She sounds like a right bitch."

"She was," Wayne laughed. "But, it all affected Jaime pretty bad."

"How?"

"Wrong crowds at school. Got into fights. She definitely got her temper from her mom, she always try's to fight it, but it's hard for her. She never had the mother figure in her life, and she's only ever had me to learn from. She didn't have a mom to teach her how to act like a girl, and when she became a teenager...god, I was not ready for the hormones, but you kind of have to learn. I helped her as much as I could, but I always felt guilty for not being able to give her the mother figure she needed."

"I think Jaime's fine. Just having you around whilst she was growing up, has taught her to be tough. I'm not going to lie, but she terrifies me a little. I wouldn't want to be up against her in a fight," Ally smirked, and Wayne laughed.

"I suppose."

"She's a strong girl."

...

"Jaime!" Gregory marched after her, but Jaime completely ignored him, and carried on up the hill. "You need to come back!"

"Leave me alone!" She snapped back, and she finally reached the top of the hill.

"Why did you run off?" Gregory questioned, coming up behind her.

"I just needed to get away for a bit," She whispered.

"Why?"

"I heard my dad and Ally talking...about my mom," She sighed, and sat down on the grass. She pulled her knife from her belt and stabbed it into the ground.

"Oh," Gregory sat down next to her, and she stared at the tips of the trees.

"He never talked about her...but, I just found out that she wanted to abort me, she drunk and smoked whilst she was pregnant with me...now I guess that explains why I'm so messed up-"

"Hey," He said. "You're not messed up."

"You don't know me," Jaime retorted. "I've seen so many horrible things, and I didn't even shed a tear whilst they were happening. What kind of person does that make me?"

"It makes you strong," Gregory whispered. "You just need to believe that."

Jaime turned, and looked at him. She glanced into his eyes, then exhaled. Gregory's eyes fluttered down to her lips, and he edged closer slightly, but Jaime quickly turned away. Gregory turned away, and dropped his head.

Silence fell, and Jaime continued to look around. She was tired, because she still hadn't caught up on the sleep, which she needed. She wished to sleep in a bed, she couldn't remember the last time she had actually slept in one.

Something caught her eye.

"Do you see that," Jaime tapped Gregory's arm, and he looked at her. Jaime got to her feet, and Gregory followed her down the hill. Jaime's grip tightened on her knife, and they walked closer to the tree's.

On the tree was the letter 'J' carved into a tree with a jagged circle surrounding it. Jaime glanced back at Gregory, and he reached out and brushed his fingers against it.

"I'm going to say that this isn't a good sign," Jaime said, and Gregory shrugged his shoulders.

"Maybe someone's looking for someone," Gregory replied.

"Maybe so, but I'm pretty sure, I heard Kyle tell Wayne that he saw this marking back at the clearing where we were camping...I think someone's watching us."

...

A gurgle woke Ally from her sleep. Her eyes flew open, and she stumbled over to the bed. She glanced down at Nathan, his eyes were open, and he was reaching out, trying to get to her. Ally sobbed, and bundled him up into her arms.

"Hi baby," She cried softly, then kissed his forehead. Nathan gurgled, and his tiny fingers wrapped around the ends of her hair. "I'm so glad you're okay. Mommy missed you."

"Oh! Nathan!" Jess squealed, and she ran into the room. Ally turned around, and Jess ran up to her. Ally dropped down onto her knee's, so Jess could get a better look at him. Jess reached out her hand, and brushed her fingers against his head. "He's okay."

"He's okay," Ally repeated, and she kissed him again.

Suddenly, Ally heard the door creak from across the room. She slowly got her feet, and turned around. A woman came in, and her back was facing them. She turned around, then froze.

"Oh," She gasped, and she rested her hand on the gun in her belt.

"Who the hell are you?" Ally asked.

"Is that a baby," She pointed at Nathan in her arms, and Ally narrowed her eyes at her. "Don't see many babies anymore."

"What do you want?" Jess spoke up, and the woman smiled sweetly at Jess.

"I don't want anything sweetheart. I was just passing through," She explained. "I-AUSTIN!"

Ally jumped, and she watched the woman run across the room. She watched her run into Austin's arms. He was standing in the doorway, frozen on the spot. He didn't hug her back, he just looked over her shoulder, and at Nathan.

Austin pushed the woman away from him, and she fell to the ground with a scream. He marched over to Ally and glanced down at Nathan in her arms. He looked back into Ally's eyes, and smiled.

"See, I told you he would wake up," Ally didn't smile back at him, and she stared over at the woman, who was getting to her feet.

"Is that anyway to act towards your girlfriend," She spoke up, aggressively.

"YOUR WHAT!?" Ally screamed.

AN: Please, don't kill me...hahaha, I feel quite evil, but I love drama. I know the past two chapters have been short, so I promise that the next one will be longer.

So, who do you think's watching the group? And thoughts on the mysterious woman? Jaime's become my favourite writing muse, and she is going to be very significant in the upcoming storyline, her and Ally are going to have a big problem to deal with. Austin's got some explaining to do...I'm not sure how I'm going to play it out in the next chapter, I'm not sure if I want Ally to be an emotional wreck, or kick Austin's ass :D But, we'll just have to see what happens in the next chapter :)

Thank you to everyone who reviewed the last chapter, but I'd really love to hear from more of you, because as you should all know by now, just hearing from your guys makes me happy, and encourages me to write more for you all, as always love you all :)
