Chapter Thirty Six: Imperfection
The Grey Mansion: 7:06 PM
"So here are the invitation templates," Ava instructed as she laid the different options on the dining room table. All the women seemed engaged in Ava's mission to choose the right invitation but Tam. She was a little distracted. She'd just received some amazing news that she hadn't been able to share with Teddy yet. She could've texted the information to him but she wanted to share it in person. She could imagine how happy he would be. She planned to tell him as soon as he came back to the office but as soon as he got there he had to turn around and go back out again. His actions were a little strange to her since it didn't seem like he had any more meetings on appointments on his calendar. So she continued to hold the paper near her heart. In her bra actually. She was waiting not so patiently to share the news.
"Tam?" Ava snapped her fingers a couple of times.
"Oh I'm sorry Ava." Tam pulled her eyes from the living room area where most of the men were sitting and now took some time to really look the little pieces paper. "This one goes more with the beach theme and this one goes more with a church themed wedding. Did you and decide which way you're going with you wedding?"
"Mom still wants the church and Rachel wants the same thing," Ava snarled and Kate seemed more than satisfied.
"Well, I don't mean to interject but why not just throw your reception on the beach?" Imani offered and Ava nodded.
"Yeah, I think that's what I'm geared towards. Besides, someone's all pregnant and now the bridesmaids have to change anyway!" Gina looked at Ava horrified and as soon as Ava blurted it out she realized the mistake she had a made. Imani's eyes got big and Jerry and Elliot came into the room.
"What?" Jerry asked in disbelief. "You're what? Didn't you just tell me you broke up with Ben like two days ago?"
"Yes Daddy," Gina murmured and held her forehead. "Can we please talk in private about this?" Jerry nodded and he motioned for Gina to come with him. Before she left she gave Ava the death stare.
"Damn," Phoebe whispered.
"Girl, you don't even know the half of it. Gina's got some serious stuff going on right now. I'm sorry I exposed everything faster than she wanted to but it's good her dad know," Ava said mainly to make herself feel better. She toyed with the invites. She pushed one ahead of the others. "This is my favorite."
"What made her break up with Ben? I thought she was crazy about him and ready to marry the guy," Mia asked bluntly. Ava and Imani looked at Tam and looked at both of them wide eyed.
"She broke up with Ben because he's a sick lunatic! He was delusional and I personally think it's for the best she not be with someone that has such mental problems," Tam explained and she dared Ava to add her two scents now. Gina and she were actually pretty okay right now. She didn't need any more family drama.
"Yeah, I'm glad she didn't marry him. Could imagine how messy it would have been if she had?" Imani mused and Ana nodded.
"It wouldn't have been healthy for the baby and they would've had to deal with all of that drama," Ana added. "I just hope Ben doesn't abandon the baby. I hate deadbeat dads."
"Sounds like he's a deadbeat in general," Kate murmured. Tam looked down at her fingers and sighed. She was starting think that maybe she should've told Teddy about their marriage being official via text. They could've disappeared for the night and spent it doing … Tam's mind started to fill with all sorts of inappropriateness. She was only stirred by Gina coming in and aggressively gathering her things.
"You okay?" She asked.
"No, I am on my way to stop my dad from trying to kill my ex. How did my life end up like this?" Gina murmured and a tear rolled down her face. Tam got up to go with her and Gina held her hand up.
"No Tam, no offense but you coming would only make this worse for me. I'll call you later." Gina took off and Ava followed behind her. She knew Gina was going to need support and since she was the one who caused this outburst the least she could do was help remedy it.
After the drama died down Grace, Ana, and the others were chit chatting. Ted had disappeared into parts unknown of the house and Tam felt slightly abandoned. She made her way into the music room and sat at the piano. She tapped a few of the white keys. She sighed as played something random from her youth. She was tired of being patient and waiting for the right moment. She needed to tell him and new wife shouldn't be spending her wedding night this way. She got up to go find Teddy when he appeared out of nowhere. He'd loosened his tie and pulled his shirt out of his pants.
"It's been a long time since I heard you play," Teddy said and Tam back down and she began to play. She played the melody to the song that Ted liked so much. The one they danced to on his 21st birthday.
"Teddy, I have something to tell you," she whispered as she continued to play.
"I have something to tell you too," Teddy confessed. "I have been avoiding you this afternoon. I didn't have a second appointment. I went to talk to my dad." Tam stopped playing and turned to Teddy. He took a deep breath.
"I didn't get him. I went to this meeting fully prepared and I couldn't get the guy. I don't know why I just couldn't look you in the face and tell you that. It's hard to tell you when I fuck up when you excel at everything." Ted swallowed hard and Tam just frowned.
"Teddy, no I don't! I mess up daily. I don't consider Mitchell not signing a bad thing. I didn't want to enter into business with him anyway. I told you that." Teddy looked down he felt Tam was just saying things to make him feel better.
"I messed up pretty huge today myself. I got some pretty big news and I didn't tell you because … I couldn't find the right time," Tam stated before pulling the envelope from her bra.
"I'm liking this news already," Teddy teased as he opened the paperwork. He glanced over it for a moment and then he blue eyes got big. Tam smiled a little.
"Tam!" Teddy grabbed her and kissed her. It was hot, passion, and emotion filled. Tam broke the kiss and hugged him again.
"I feel like I've been waiting for this all day," she whispered. "I really, really want to get out of here."
"Anything you say Mrs. Grey," he said happily as he hopped up and extended his hand to his wife.
"Remember you said that Mr. Grey," Tam murmured seductively as she popped him on the behind. They exited his grandparents' house both filled with great expectations for the evening.
