Chapter 35: Town Hall
"Yeah. I know. You're only human."
- The Doctor
It wasn't very hard to find her. She wasn't exactly hiding.
Amy stared up at the Town Hall with a frown. The last time she'd met the Slitheen they were going to blow up the planet and sell it for scraps. Luckily the Doctor had stopped them with a well placed missile.
But how had she survived that blast?
Maybe it wasn't as hard as she thought. After all, they had survived it.
They entered the building without any delays, not much security for such a public building. They sauntered up to the entrance hall and stopped, looking around.
"According to intelligence," Jack winked at Rose, "The target is the last surviving member of the Slitheen family, a criminal sect from the planet Raxacoricofallapatorious, masquerading as human being zipped inside a skin suit."
Amy sighed, and leaned forward, tapping Jack on the shoulder. He turned and looked at her quizzically.
"You do realize that we already know this, right?" She told him, then pointed to The Doctor, Mickey and Rose, "We were all there."
He rolled his eyes, "Okay then, plan of attack. We assume a basic 57/56 strategy, covering all available exits on the ground floor. Amy, you go with the Doctor for face-to-face, that'll designate Exit One, I'll cover Exit Two, Rose, you're Exit three, Mickey Smith, you take Exit four. Have you got that?"
The Doctor stared at him throughout his speech with a raised eyebrow, surprised at Jack's impertinence. Rose and Mickey both looked confused and Amy just shook her head in exasperation.
The Doctor looked at Jack sternly, "Excuse me. Who's in charge?"
Jack winced, "Sorry. Awaiting orders, sir."
The Doctor turned to the group, "Right. Here's the plan." He paused, looking around the group, then he beamed. "Like he said. Nice plan. Anything else?"
Jack sighed, "Present arms."
They all pulled out their Mobile Phones.
"Ready." They all confirmed.
"Speed dial?" Jack asked.
Amy pressed the speed dial on her borrowed phone, "Got it."
"Yup."
"Ready."
"Check"
Jack gave them all a lazy grin, "See yah in hell."
Amy and the Doctor split off from Rose down a hall and headed towards the Lord Mayor's office.
"Is this a good idea?" Amy whispered as they walked down the hall, moving to the side to let a couple of people in very posh suits go by.
The Doctor waited until they were out of earshot, "I don't want to come to conflict. Hopefully we can get her to leave without resorting to violence."
Amy chuckled, "And that's why you took away Jack's gun?"
The Doctor scowled, "I took away Jack's gun because I don't like guns."
He never took away River's gun, Amy smirked as they continued their walk.
"You really think she'll just leave?" Amy wondered.
"Depends on what she wants." The Doctor trailed off into a whisper as they approached a desk outside the office where the Secretary sat behind the desk.
The Doctor approached the man cheerfully, "Hello! We've come to see the Lord Mayor!"
The Man looked up, a bit startled before looking back at his notes, "Have you got an appointment?"
"Nope!" The Doctor cried cheerfully, " Just an old friend passing, by, but is a surprise - can't wait to see her face!"
"It'll be priceless!" Amy agreed.
"Well," The secretary looked at the pair of them suspiciously, "She's just having a cup of tea."
The Doctor shrugged, then pointed at the door, "Just go in there, and tell her 'the Doctor' would like to see her."
"And Amy Williams!" Amy, leaned over. The Doctor and the Secretary both gave her strange looks. "What?" She scoffed, "Go tell her!"
The secretary stared at the both of them, "Doctor...Who?"
"Just the Doctor," The Doctor grinned. Amy nudged him in the side and he rolled his eyes, "And my companion Amy. Tell her exactly that. The Doctor."
The Secretary stood up resignedly, "Hold on a tick..." He walked into the office.
The Doctor just stood there with his hands behind his back, rolling on his heels as he waited. Amy jumped when she heard a tea cup smash against the floor, before grinning.
The the man stumbled out of the room - looking slightly flustered.
Amy couldn't help but notice that he opened the door as little as possible and shared a look with the Doctor, who's mouth turned up slightly in the corner.
"The Lord Mayor says thank you for...for popping by," The man half stuttered, "She'd love to have a chat, but, um...she'd up to her eyes in paperwork. Perhaps if you could make an appointment for next week...?" He trailed off, noticing they weren't buying it.
Amy just stared at him with an amused face when the Doctor grinned.
"She'd climbing out of the window, isn't she?" He asked the man.
The Secretary didn't even look surprised, "Yes, she is."
The Doctor and Amy rushed into the office and out onto the balcony where they saw Margaret slip over the scaffolding.
The Doctor pulled out his mobile, "Slitheen, head north!" He told the others.
"What now?" Amy asked, looking over the balcony, only to be greeted with a gasping grunt. Turning around she saw the secretary grappling with the Doctor.
"Leave the mayor alone!" He hissed. The Doctor tried to free himself, Amy looked over the balcony and saw Margaret reach the ground.
"Great." She groaned, hoping that Jack, Rose and Mickey could corner her. She turned back to the pair of men fighting. "Oi!"
The Secretary turned to look at her and the Doctor took the distraction and threw the man off him.
Amy looked at the Balcony with trepidation, but sighed. It was the only way. She threw one leg over and the Doctor followed suit. They both climbed over and down the scaffolding.
Below them Margaret was trapped between Rose and Jack. No sign of Mickey but Amy was sure he'd show up eventually. Amy jumped, landing on the platform, then leaned over the railing, looking for Mickey.
"Margaret!" The Doctor called mockingly as he landed beside her
Margaret ran down another exit that Amy hadn't seen and she cursed. Quickly throwing her leg over the safety bar, and climbing to the ground. The Doctor followed her, landing on the pavement a few seconds after her.
They ran up, meeting with Jack and Rose.
"Who was on Exit Four?" Jack yelled.
Rose looked around, "That was Mickey!"
Behind them Mickey finally joined them, looking a little worse for wear. "Here I am!"
"Mickey the Idiot." The Doctor groaned fondly.
They all stared after Margaret as she ran. Rose sighed, "Oh, be fair - she's not exactly gonna outrun us, is she."
And then Margaret disappeared in a flash of blue light.
"Oh, that's not fair." Amy gestured towards where she disappeared.
"She's got a teleport!" Jack exclaimed, "That's cheating! now we're never gonna get her!"
The Doctor stepped forward and Rose grinned, "Oh, the Doctor's very good with teleports."
Amy grinned, remembering how he reversed Cassandra's teleport 5 billion years in the future. Compared to that technology this would be easy.
The Doctor produced his sonic screwdriver and held it in the air with a confident grin. He clicked it once and Margaret reappeared, running towards them with a smile on her face. Seeing them she came to a halt, and quickly turned around running. She zapped the teleport and was gone again.
The Doctor just clicked his screwdriver and she reappeared, only to turn around again.
Amy leaned over to Jack, "How long before her teleport dies?"
Jack chuckled, "Long before the Sonic will, I'll bet."
The Doctor clicked his sonic and Margaret reappeared right in front of them, gasping for breath.
"I could do this all day." The Doctor informed her cheerfully.
She raised her hands in surrender, glaring at them, "This is persecution! Why can't you leave me alone? What did I ever do to you?"
Amy furrowed her eyebrows and narrowed her eyes, "You tried to blow up the planet."
Margaret waved her hand dismissively, "Apart from that."
They all looked at her in disbelief.
They took Margaret into the exhibition room of the town hall. Int he middle of the room there was a display for some new building plan. It looks like the place had just cleaned up from a party.
The Doctor turned to Margaret, ready to interrogate her, "So, you're a Slitheen, you're on Earth, you're trapped. Your family gets killed but you teleport out, just in the nick of time. You have no means of escape. What do you do?"
He gestures to the display in the middle of the Room.
Amy walked up to it. It was a familiar building, "A nuclear power plant?"
"But what for?" The Doctor asked as they studied the display.
Margaret shrugged innocently, "A philanthropic gesture. I've learnt the error of my ways."
"And it just so happens to be right on top of the rift." The Doctor informed her with a glare. Amy gasped, she hadn't even thought of that. From the looks on the other's faces, neither had they.
Margaret shifted uncomfortably, "What rift would that be?"
"A rift in time and space," Jack stepped in, "If this power station went into meltdown, the entire planet would go schwwupboom!"
The Doctor studied the model intently, "This station is designed to explode the minute it reaches capacity."
"Impossible!" Amy cried, "There are people who check for that sort of thing."
"Exactly," Rose agreed, "Shouldn't someone in London be looking at this?"
"We're in Cardiff," Margaret scoffed, "London doesn't care! The South Wales coast could fall into the sea and they wouldn't notice-" She stopped and her mouth twisted into a cringe, "I sound like a Welshman! God help me, I've gone native."
"More than likely someone has killed all the people responsible for it." Amy retorted, glaring at the Slitheen, "Did you make it look like an accident?"
The alien just smiled sweetly at her, but with a hint of malice in her eyes.
"But why would she do that?" Mickey asked, looking at the alien with disgust, "A great big explosion - she'd only end up killing herself."
"Unless she had a way out." Amy hypothesized.
"She's got a name you know." Margaret spat.
"She's not even a she," Mickey wrinkled his nose, gesturing at Margaret, "She's a...thing."
"Oh, but she's clever." The Doctor eyed her with interest. Then in one swift movement he gripped the middle section of the model and flipped it. Amy jumped back in shock. "Fantastic!"
Amy looked at the piece he'd flipped. It was definitely a piece of technology. Several circuits and lights and other things she couldn't even identify.
"What is that?" She asked The Doctor.
But it was Jack who answered.
"Is that a tribophysical waveform macro-kinetic extrapolator?!" Jack gasped excitedly, almost jumping up and down.
"Couldn't have put it better myself." The Doctor studied the machine before something behind Amy caught his attention. Jack pulled the device out of is hands and held it like a new toy.
"Ooh, Genius!" He cried, giggling like a school girl
Amy rolled her eyes, turning to see what had caught the Doctor's attention. He was staring at a poster. Probably for the nuclear project. The words 'Blaidd Drwg' went across it. Amy couldn't read Welsh - and for some reason the TARDIS wasn't translating. The Doctor seemed to think it meant something though as he narrowed his eyes.
Jack turned to Margaret, "You didn't build this."
"I have my hobbies." The Slitheen shrugged, "A little tinkering."
Jack shook his head, "No, no, no, I mean, you really didn't build this. Way beyond you."
"I bet she stole it," Mickey accused.
"It...fell into my hands."
"What is it?" Amy asked them. Jack went to repeat what he's said earlier, but Amy held up her hand, "In English please!"
"Is it a weapon?" Rose wondered.
Jack put the extrapolator down on the floor, "It's transport. You see - the reactor blows, the rift opens, phenomenal cosmic disaster, but this thing shrouds you in a force field, you have this energy bubble, zzhum, so you're safe. Then you feed it coordinates, stand on top, and ride the concussion all the way out of the solar system."
Mickey seemed to understand, "It's a surfboard."
Jack shrugged, "A pan-dimensional surfboard, yeah."
Amy laughed, then turned to the Doctor, "See, why can't you explain things like that. It's all big words and 'wibbly wobbley' with you."
But the Doctor wasn't paying her any attention, his gaze was still fixed on the 'Blaidd Drwg' poster.
"And it would've worked-"
"If it weren't for us meddling kids?" Amy joked. Rose and Mickey laughed, but Jack just looked at her confused.
Margaret rolled her eyes,"I would've surfed away from this dead-end dump and back to civilization."
Mickey stared at her incredulous, "You'd blow up a whole planet just to get a lift?"
"Like stepping on an anthill," She all but snarled.
"How'd you think up the name." Everybody turned to the Doctor who was still staring at the Poster.
"What?" Margaret looked between him and the poster, confused, "Blaidd Drwg'? It's Welsh."
"I know," The Doctor snapped, "But how did you think of it?"
Margaret looked at him strangely, "Chose it at random, that's all, I dunno. Just sounded good. Does it matter?"
The Doctor turned around to face the group, brow furrowed, "Blaidd Drwg."
"Yes, we can read." Amy frowned. "But what does it mean."
"Bad Wolf."
Amy Froze.
"... The things you've seen...the darkness...the big Bad Wolf..."
"...Schlechter Wolf..."
"...BAD WOLF..."
"...BadWolfTV..."
"...Blaidd Drwg..."
"...Bad Wolf One descending..."
"But..." Rose whispered, looking haunted, "I've heard that before, Bad Wolf. I've heard that lots of times..."
"So have I." Amy breathed out, feeling a bit disturbed. How could words follow them
"Everywhere we go," The Doctor sounded distant as he spoke, "Two words. Following us. Bad Wolf."
"How can they be following us?" Rose wondered. Jack and Mickey were looking between them confused, obviously both of them hadn't seen it.
The Doctor stared into space for a few seconds without blinking, then he grinned, "Nah! Just a coincidence! Like hearing a word on the radio then hearing it all day. Never mind! Things to do." He clapped his hands briskly. "Margaret, we're gonna take you home."
"Hold on," Jack argued, dropping the 'Bad Wolf' conversation a lot quicker than Amy would have liked, "Isn't that the easy option, like letting her go?"
But Rose looked ecstatic, "I don't believe it! We actually get to go to Raxa..." She trailed off, not remember how to say it.
The Doctor rolled his eyes.
Rose continued indignantly, "Wait a minute! Raxacor..."
"Raxacoricofallapatorius." The Doctor corrected.
Rose walked over to the Doctor, "Raxacorico..."
"...fallapatorius."
"Raxacoricofallapatorius!" Rose screeched in delight.
"That's it!" The Doctor yelled joyfully and the two cheered and she wrapped her arms around him and he picked her up spinning her around.
"Wait!" Amy held up a hand, "Are we actually just dropping the 'Bad wolf' Discussion. That seemed important."
The Doctor waved his hand, "Not important. What's important is that we get Margaret back to..." He looked at Rose with a grin.
"Raxacoricofallapatorius!" She said proudly.
"They have the death penalty."
The room turned awkward as Margaret spoke. They all turned to look at her in silence, the smiles faded.
Margaret continued solemnly, "The family Slitheen was tried in its absence many years ago and found guilty. With no chance of appeal. According to the statutes of government, the moment I return, I am to be executed. What do you make of that, Doctor?"
She held the Doctor, fixing him with a cold stare which he returned.
"Take me home and you take me to my death."
They all shifted awkwardly as the Slitheen and Margaret stared each other down, neither shifting or standing down.
Finally the Doctor spoke, completely indifferent.
"Not my problem."
A/N - I know how much you guys LOVE IT when it'd pretty much word-for -word for the episode, but here's a big old filler chapter.
Luckily I will post the next chapter super quickly. Like, it's almost half edited, so It'll be out probably tomorrow. Maybe? I'm flying back to University tomorrow morning, so if I have time in the afternoon I'll post it. I have a Midterm on wednesday that I have to study for as well.

Guest - I'd say she's around 30-31 maybe 32. I'm not entirely sure as age wasn't exactly something they kept track of in the series. I think this was on purpose, cause I doubt even Amy knows how old she really is. It's hard to keep track of things like that in the TARDIS.
Misty - The alias' are nice, it's much less confusing when there isn't 5 different people using 'guest'. And thank you. I don't mind short chapter's either, but some people aren't huge fans of them, so I apologize ahead of time. I'm Canadian what do you expect?
So Review if you have any thoughts, comments, Questions, or concerns. Remember that once I reach 300 reviews I'll give you guys a special preview of the sequel.
Until Next Time,
