Ch. 37 We Touched the Stars
(MILES)
"A nephew and two nieces I'm so excited! I'm going to get them most styling baby clothes," Tris beams meeting us at our lockers this Thursday morning.
"I know isn't it great we can dress up the twins like little princesses and my son will be the best looking baby boy in North America," Maya grins.
"With you Tris and Chewy shopping for him how can he not be," I smile giving Maya a soft kiss. We get out our books and close our lockers, I put my arm around Maya and we start walking toward the front of school to hang out before classes. We would be waiting for Chewy but he won't be her until later since he has a doctors appointment. "How much do you want a bet our son will play some sort of sport even though neither of us play and Clare's girls will play an instrument even though she, Owen and Dallas don't play," I comment.
"Of course they will and Tris and Winston will get them into theatre and Clare will tutor them all so that they're smart. They'll be the most well rounded kids ever, how can they not be living with all of us," Maya says.
"Yeah but we won't all be living in the same house forever. Clare and Dallas will be going to University next year, even if they stay local once they're all working and the kids are a little older they're going to want to move out to a place of their own and somewhere with enough space for the five of them. Besides at some point we're going to want to move out on our own too," I point out to Maya and she twists her face at me. I chuckle at the face and put my arm around her as we sit on the steps.
"Why's she pouting?" Clare questions walking up with Dallas and the Torres brothers, Clare sits down slowly with Dallas on one side of her and she leans against him. Adam sits on the other side of her and Drew next to Dallas.
"I pointed out that we won't all live in one house forever and she doesn't like that idea," I tell them.
"Well not forever but realistically the three of us, or soon the five of us," Clare corrects putting her hand on her bulging belly, "will be there at least until Mike and I are out of school as long as it's okay with Angela. Then we'll need jobs and it will help if the girls are in school. And even when we do move out we won't be going far unless one of is given an amazing job opportunity we can't turn down. Even if Tris moves Owen's parents are here, Audra and Omar and Angela. Most of our other friends are close enough that I don't think we're leaving Toronto," Clare assures Maya.
"It's still going to suck not being in the same house, you guys are my family," Maya says.
"We'll always be family Maya no matter where we are," Clare tells her as the bell rings.
Everyone stands but Clare who gets pulled up by Dallas and Adam. We wave to them and walk to class. The morning goes by pretty quickly, Winston shows up for second period and we all walk out to lunch together. Maya wants to eat in the garden so I send her there with Tris and my jacket while Chewy and I walk to the caf to get lunch for the three of us, Tris brought his lunch. We don't even make to the caf as I see Damon watching Clare through the window of the student council office. She's lying on the sofa and it's making her large swollen breasts stick out and Damon feels the need to comment on them and her.
"You know if not for her pregnant belly I'd go for her. Still like to get me a handful of them boobies though, I think they could swallow my whole head," he's laughing with his buddies.
"SHUT UP!" I growl pushing him into the lockers.
"Oh come on Hollingsworth you're telling me you live with her and you've never peeked?" He taunts.
"I have a girlfriend and she has two husbands!" I growl at him.
"Are Maya's going to get that big? No I doubt it Clare had big boobs anyway, maybe I'll sneak a feel of Maya's anyway," he laughs and I lose it curling my fist to punch him but he ducks and my hand hits the locker!
"Ow!" I yelp and Damon punches me in the stomach.
I double over and the next minute or two are chaos, I start hitting and kicking at the guys trying to get at me. I know at least one of them hit Chewy because I hear him say ow. I do manage to kick Damon in the stomach I know that much but my hand is throbbing and feels like it was put in a blender! Then all three guys are hauled away from me and Chewy, I look up to see Dallas and Drew standing over us.
"What the hell is going on? Didn't we tell you not to mess with our family?!" Dallas growls while pinning Damon to the locker.
"He was talking about Maya and Clare and he wants to touch them and grope their breasts," I tell Dallas standing up and clutching my hand to my chest.
Clare is watching all this through the window and Jenna is with her. Adam, Connor and Drew are holding the other two guys so they can't go anywhere and I look at Chewy to see that he has a black eye among other bruises.
"You stupid fucking pervert if you ever go near my wife or Maya I will break every bone in your hand and Owen will break every bone in the other. He actually knows what all the bones are too. You keep your hands away from them, your eyes off of them and stop talking about them or you won't have a tongue," Dallas growls as he slams Damon into the locker at the end of every sentence. Then Dallas punches the side of Damon's face sending it into the locker. I hear a crack so something broke or fractured, Dallas tosses him to the ground after that. "Take him to the nurse and keep your mouths shut," Dallas instructs the other two.
They nod looking scared to death and when Drew, Adam and Connor let them go they pick up Damon and walk off with him.
"Thanks guys," Chewy says holding eye.
"No one messes with us, how bad are you guys?" Dallas asks.
"I think the worst I got was a black eye but it hurts," Chewy says.
"I got a few bruises but I went to punch Damon and he ducked so I punched the locker instead," I tell him.
"Let me see," Dallas requests and I show him my hand. "Yeah I think you broke it buddy. Drew can you walk Winston to the nurse for an ice pack in case those guys try anything else," Dallas requests.
"Yeah sure come on Winston," Drew says putting a hand on Winston's shoulder.
"I'll take you to Coach Armstrong, he probably has more experience with broken hands then the nurse anyway," Dallas says.
"Maya and Tris are still waiting for us to come back with lunch," I remark.
"I'll grab them," Adam says running off.
"Connor go tell Clare and Jenna what's going will you," Dallas says and Connor nods while start walking to Coach Armstrong's office.
"Man this hurts," I grimace as a few tears of physical pain roll from my eyes.
"Yeah I'll bet, if it's not busted I'll be surprised, try not to move it I'm pretty sure we'll have to take you to the hospital," Dallas says.
"My mom's at a luncheon she might not hear her phone we usually call Chewy's parents if we can't get a hold of her," I tell Dallas.
"Owen's done with classes for the day I'm sure he can leave his lab hours to take you, we'll just call him," Dallas tells me just as he knocks on Coach Armstrong's door and he waves us in. "Hey Miles tried to punch a kid talking bad about Clare and Maya and his hand hit the locker instead. I'm pretty sure he broke it," Dallas informs Armstrong.
"Let's see Hollingsworth," Armstrong says getting up and I show him my hand. It's bleeding from three knuckles and swelled up to at least twice it's normal size and it's turning colors. "Yeah that's definitely broken we better take you to the hospital son, call your mom and I'll get some ice packs," Armstrong instructs.
"Actually his mom is at a lunch I was just going to call Owen since he's done with classes for the day," Dallas comments.
"Fine but he needs to get the hospital and have the hand x-rayed," Armstrong tells him and Dallas nods getting out his phone.
Coach goes back into the supply room and comes back a minute later with two ice packs and an ace bandage. While Dallas is telling Owen to come get me the coach puts one ice pack on the top of my hand and one on the bottom and wraps them with the bandage to keep them in place.
"Owen's on his way says he'll be here in 15," Dallas says when he hangs up with Owen.
"Alright can you get him out front? I'll inform Mr. Simpson," Armstrong comments.
Dallas nods and we all walk out of the room, Dallas walks with me to the front of school and we wait for Owen on the steps. He pulls up a few minutes later and we go down the steps, Dallas opens the door for me and Owen helps me buckle the seatbelt.
"I'll be in touch, tell Maya I'll take good care of him," Owen says when I get in the car.
"Yeah see you guys at home," Dallas nods closing the car door.
He starts walking back inside and Owen starts driving. Owen parks at the ER and we go in, he fills out the form for me since I can't right now. After about half an hour my hand is killing me, the ice packs are warm and I finally get called back but the first thing they do is take me down for x-ray. After that I'm put in a wheel chair and taken to a bed in the ER, Owen is sitting in a chair by the bed on his phone, texting or playing a game. The nurse tells me the doctor will be in soon and I lie back on the bed. It feels like it takes forever and my hand is throbbing and has shooting pains the whole time.
"Hi Miles I'm Dr. Bell, so you broke your hand," the male doctor tells me putting the x-ray on the board and turning on the light. "Your index and middle and knuckle are busted we'll have to sew those up. You also fractured the proximal phalange bones on your thumb, index and middle finger and have partial fractures of the metacarpal bones on your index and middle finger. We'll set your hand and you'll have a cast and brace for a few weeks."
Just as the doctor finishes a nurse and another doctor come in with some bandages and other things. They do give me pain medication which acts quickly and instead of being in pain I feel loopy now. They sew up my knuckles and then tape my index and middle to my ring finger. Then put a splint around my thumb that gets separated from my other fingers by some gauze. The whole palm of my hand and wrist is put in a splint and wrapped with the outer wrappings for a cast, I choose orange for mine. They give me a prescription for pain pills and a follow up appointment then we get in Owen's car to drive home. He calls and leaves a message for Dallas and Maya that we're on our way home.
"Look Owen all I can move is my little finger," I tell Owen waving to him with my pinky finger. "I don't think I can do very much with one little finger, I can't hold a pen with it," I comment curling my pinky finger like I'm trying to hold a pen. "Oh my gosh how I am I going to eat Owen?"
"Dude you have another hand," he says holding up my left hand.
"Whoa! Hi Mr. Lefty," I laugh waving to myself with my left hand.
"Those must have been some good pain pills the doctor gave you," Owen chuckles.
"They were sooooooooo goooooooooooooooooood. I think my head is floating, Owen I can't feel my head," I exclaim.
"It's still there buddy, why don't you just lay back and close your eyes for a bit," Owen tells me.
"Okay," I nod and close my eyes; I end up falling asleep and only wake up when Owen tosses me over his shoulder to get me inside. "Heyyyyyy I'm flying! I'm Superman!" I laugh putting my arms out like I'm flying the way Superman does.
"Yeah those were some good pain pills," Owen comments unlocking the door and turning off the alarm. He takes me up to my room and puts my on the bed. "Alright you stay here and I'm gonna go call your mom and let her know that you're okay," Owen tells me.
"My bed feels so empty, where's my Maya? Mmmmmmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Mayaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa."
"She's at school, I'll go pick her up as soon as your mom is home because I don't think you should be alone," Owen remarks.
I hear Owen leave and I fall asleep again, I wake up sometime later when I feel a pair of lips kissing my cheek.
"Hi how are you feeling?" Maya asks.
"Tired, my hand hurts again, how long was I asleep?" I question.
"About two hours and you can't have any more of the pain pills yet; another couple hours and you can have the other kind. Me and your mom are home so text us if you need something," Owen says.
"We will thanks Owen," Maya replies and Owen leaves the room. Maya lies down on the bed on my left side and I put my arm around her. "I'm glad it was only broken hand it could have been a lot worse, I love you Miles," Maya smiles kissing my cheek.
"I love you too Maya, more than anything."
(CLARE)
"Tristan and Winston are sleeping over Mrs. Chu is going to give us a ride," Maya informs Mike and when the last bell of the day rings Friday afternoon.
Miles had stayed home today because of his broken hand and the powerful pain pills he was on, since it was Friday Simpson and his mom figured it was better just to keep him home. Simpson was actually counting it as his day of suspension earned for fighting with Damon. Damon got three days of suspension for his rude comments and fighting and his buddies got two each. Mike probably should have had a few himself but as several people said Mike was only defending Miles, as we're Drew, Adam and Connor, none of them were given any punishment. Although Simpson did give Mike and Drew a very strong warning not to fight anymore or he'd be forced to suspend him and have him suspended from some games.
"Okay we'll see you after the game, I'm sure Miles has been bored all day or sleeping all day," I comment.
"Correction we'll see them tomorrow, we won't be home until quite late," Mike corrects.
"We won't?" I inquire as it's the first I've heard of it.
"Nope your husbands arranged a celebration for after the game," Mike tells me with a proud grin.
"Oh did you? And what are we celebrating?" I smile linking my arms around his neck.
"Celebrating that today is the first day of your third trimester," Mike says with a smile. I grin and go up on my tiptoes to kiss him softly. "I have to get on the bus to get to the game, Owen will meet you at the arena and Drew and Adam will take you," Mike tells me.
"We'll take good care of her," Drew tells him putting an arm loosely around my shoulders.
Mike waves and walks fast to get out to the bus, Drew, Adam, Maya, Tris, Winston and I walk out to the front. I wave to Mike standing at Ice Hounds bus to check in the players and then to Maya, Tristan and Winston as they get into Mrs. Chu's car. I walk with Drew and Adam to Drew's car and Adam helps me into the front seat. Drew makes the short drive to the arena and he stops near the front so Adam and I can get out, Owen is already in line and we get in line with him. He hugs me and gives me a passionate kiss.
"So when exactly did you and Mike arrange this celebration after the game?" I query.
"About a week ago when we realized today would be the start of your 3rd trimester," Owen replies and kisses my temple.
It takes about 20 minutes for us to get to the front of the line and give our tickets. I get tired of stand on my feet and moving slowly so I walk up and down the line with Owen a little bit until we're inside. We find our seats which are front row of course and sit down; it feels much better to be sitting. Of course I'm hungry right after sitting down, Owen tells me that the three of us will be eating after the game but gets me popcorn and water to snack on.
When the music finally starts and players skate out Mike blows me a kiss and Luke waves to us. The opposing team skates out and then the national anthem plays and Owen has to help me up. We sit down again and the game starts, Mike scores the first goal and I wish I could jump up and cheer for him but that's a bit of an impossibility right now. I still clap and cheer, blowing him a kiss. At the end of the first quarter we're up by two points and the other team hasn't scored. They do score one goal in the second quarter but we're still ahead by one and there are no goals in the third quarter so we win and the arena becomes a cacophony of cheers. After the celebration in the arena Owen helps me up to say goodbye to our friends and then we sit back in our seats. The cleaning staff comes in and cleans around us then Owen's phone beeps and he stands helping me to stand again.
"Dallas says the locker room is empty so it's safe to go in there now," Owen tells me.
We have to walk through half the arena to get to the door that allows access to the player's corridor, it locks from this side but Owen knocks on it and it opens from the other. Mike greets me with a kiss and we walk back to the locker room. Owen gets skates on and a delivery boy comes back with food that the boys pay for. I see blankets again and candles, they pull me out onto the ice with a blanket and I hold the food. My husbands skate back and bring out the candles, no movie this time just me and my husbands.
"Twelve more weeks and we get to meet our girls," Owen smiles as we start eating, they got us Indian food.
"Probably less than that, don't forget the doctor doesn't think I'll carry to term," I remind them.
"Yeah well we're gonna make sure that you get as close to term as possible," Mike says and kisses my cheek.
"Christmas is coming up we'll have to do some shopping," I remark after a few minutes of silence.
"We can tomorrow after our prenatal appointment and get Maya's birthday present while we're at it," Owen comments.
We talk a little more while eating and when we're done they pick up the trash and dispose of it. They skate back to me a few minutes later and have dessert, a little chocolate cake that says WE LOVE YOU! I smile gleefully and kiss them both.
"If you two are this happy now you'll be positively uncontainable when I actually give birth," I giggle.
"Of course we will, we're already proud dad's and they aren't even born yet," Mike smiles.
I shake my head but I'm smiling and I love how proud and happy they are. After the cake, they throw away that trash and clean up the candles.
"Now after your date with Dallas you told me how much fun you had being dragged around on the ice and how much you wanted to see me skate again. So tonight I'm gonna skate around with Dallas and then we'll pull you around," Owen tells me.
I smile blissfully, placing a hand at the back of his neck and couple our lips, "Sounds wonderful."
I lean back on my hands and get comfortable, they guys skate around the rink at top speed, chase each other and of course show off. They skate backwards, do spins and tricks until I worry that they're going to be hurt and tell them to stop. They skate a bit more and then come over to the blanket, they tell me to lay down and each grabs one corner, I hold the sides of the blanket and they start skating, careful not to go too fast but I still feel like I'm flying. They go around the ice at least a dozen time until I'm giggling so much I can barely breathe. They slow down and collapse on either side of me on the blanket, each of the holds me with a hand on my belly and kisses my cheeks. We lay there a while just in a silent happiness but when I yawn Owen says we should get home. I look at the arena clock to see that it's after midnight and I can't believe it but the game didn't even start until 5:30 and it was four and half hours including breaks between periods and it took another 45 minutes for the arena to empty and for us to meet Mike so I guess it does make sense.
They pull me back to the hallway on the blanket and they gather the stuff. I go into the locker room with them while they take off their skates and we all walk out to Owen's car together, we'll have to get Mike's car from the school parking lot tomorrow but we can do that after shopping. It's almost 1:30 by the time we actually get home, Owen sets the alarm and we go back to our part of the house. It's my night with Owen so I give Mike a lingering, passionate, blissful kiss.
"I love you thank you for a wonderful night," I tell Mike.
"I love you too, sleep well Sugar," he says kissing me again quickly before going into the guys room.
I get ready for bed and go into my bedroom, Owen is in his boxers and he kisses me before going to brush his teeth. I get in bed turning on my side and curling up to the body pillow we got for me after my last prenatal, it was something Dr. Parker recommend. I'm sleeping naked because it's simply more comfortable. Owen comes in the room a few minutes later, he gets in behind me and puts his arm around me nuzzling his nose into my hair to kiss me. We whisper I love you and then we both fall asleep, I sleep all the way through the night which is fairly rare these days but wake feeling rested which is good for a day of shopping. We eat breakfast with everyone, Miles has taken his pain meds but not the real strong ones so he's less loopy and more tired and sort of out of it. We hang out for a while after breakfast and leave in time to get to my appointment. We sign in when we get to the doctor's office and wait a short time before being shown back to the exam room.
"Hi everyone, good to see you all again so how have the babies movements been?" Dr. Parker asks guiding me to lie back on the exam table while she does a physical exam.
"They haven't been moving much at all," I respond but she told us at my last appointment that would be normal.
"As they grow they won't move much because there won't be room. How have you been feeling otherwise?" She asks as she feels my belly and measures the bump.
"I have to pee every five minutes, I eat less but a lot throughout the day, I get lots of indigestion, my back and feet hurt all the time," I reply with a huff.
"All very normal and about to get worse, why don't we get a look at the girls and listen to their heartbeats," Dr. Parker says turning on the sonogram machine and I lift my shirt so she can put the gel on my belly. She waves the wand over the gel and puts the heartbeat monitor on. We hear their hearts going good and strong and then see the images of our girls on the screen and the three of us beam with happy pride. "They're doing well; one of them is practicing her thumb sucking see," Dr. Parker says moving the wand a little and we see one of the girls sucking her thumb. "This will help her develop the muscles she needs for feeding. The girls look healthy and your pregnancy is doing much better than first trimester. Still given your age and the fact that you're carrying twins we will very likely have to put you on bed rest at some point. Possibly we won but you should start taking it as easy as possible. I think you should start doing half days at school and spend the afternoons resting in bed or the sofa."
"But I can't miss classes and we have student council," I argue.
"You have one class after lunch which is studies in literature and I'm sure that Miss Dawes and Adam will figure out a way to do the work at home. One of us can bring you home at lunch, Drew can do it even and he can stay through the spare while you guys do student council business. If necessary they can come over after school and hold the student council meetings at our place after school, I'm sure Angela won't mind," Mike says.
"The most important thing is your health and the baby's health," Owen asserts and I nod.
Dr. Parker goes over a few more things with us and tells us to set up another appointment in two weeks. We set one up at the desk and get back in the car. I'm not looking forward to giving up my afternoons and staying home but I won't risk my children for anything.
Update next Monday starting probably with Maya's birthday.
