Maria's POV

We were holed up in the last place Stefan and Vladimir would ever think to look for us—at Sorin Georgescu's vast property, Varcolac. His land, passed down through many generations of werewolves, was situated on 2400 square kilometers of lush, green forest—slightly larger than the Olympic National Forest, or roughly one percent of Romania. And we thought Aro was loaded.

Sorin spent the first few hours gathering up his werewolves. They didn't mind the Quileute wolves, but they sure didn't trust us vampires. It wasn't until Sorin explained the manner in which we'd all been betrayed by the Romanian vamps that they began to trust us. Now, we were formulating an attack plan so we could sneak into the Stefan and Vladimir's lair.

Peter and Garrett were no help at all. They were too worried about their mates. All they wanted to do was run to the evil lair, grab their loved ones, and get the hell out of there. Both of them were under heavy guard because everyone was concerned that they'd pull something rash and stupid.

"This is outrageous. Can we just get going? I just want to get my mate from..." Peter was interrupted by his cell phone ringing. He pulled it out of his pocket and stared curiously at the caller ID prior to taking the call "Aunt Molly?"

"No, this is Heidi. It took you fucking long enough to answer."

"Where the hell did you get the phone?"

"I found it in Aunt Molly's pocket. I..."

Garrett abruptly snatched the phone away from him. "Heidi? Honey? Are you okay? Where are you?"

"Keep your voice down, damn it. Yes, I'm okay. I'm in Romania in Stefan and Vladimir's harem. Aunt Molly is changing and is about to wake up, but listen, I'm not here to play catch up with you. You need to get us all the fuck out of here pronto asap! This place is crawling with deranged, sexually depraved vampires."

"We're trying, darling. We..."

"Garrett, give the phone to Maria."

"But honey, I..."

"Give Maria the goddamned phone! The battery is almost gone on this one."

"Yes, darling. I love you."

Garrett reluctantly handed the phone to me. "This is Maria," I stated and said nothing else, knowing she needed me to listen. Heidi was a very experienced former Volturi guard and a level-headed tactician.

"Listen to me. Each entrance is heavily guarded. You can't just walk in here. The basement is where the harem is. That's where we are; well, everyone except for Bella who has gone and pulled a rash and stupid. She lured in the guards and ordered them to take her to Stefan, and I'm going to beat the ever loving, self-sacrificing crap out of her if we ever get out of here. Anyway, that's beside the point. The hybrids are on our side. Amun lied to us. There are more than just two of them, there are twenty. They are in the purple robes with no embroidery. You can't trust the purple robes with the gold embroidery and you can't trust the red robes neither—except for Bella and me, we're in red robes...long story. Alice's room is the first room to the left of the staircase on the second floor. I think you should..."

The line suddenly went dead. "Mierda! The battery must have lost power." I cursed before closing my eyes to calm myself down. I needed to get control of my anxiety and would not speak until I was ready. "No matter, she gave us valuable information." I calmly went over Heidi's words over and over, before breaking out into a smile. "I've just thought of a way in."

Two hours later...

It was an insane plan—absolutely dangerous and risky, but here we were carrying it through. Rebecca and I—accompanied by Sue, Tanya, Kate, and Irina—were on the grounds of the Romanian castle. The men—especially our mates—had vehemently objected to this plan, calling it suicidal, but this was the option that made the most sense. Rebecca and I were harnessing our power and singing together near the main entrance to the castle. My thought was that if Bella was able to use her gift of allure on the guards, then they would be easily overcome by our gifts as sirens and succubi because we were much more powerful than lures were. As sirens, Rebecca and I are able to lure people to us simply by singing. We could sing a nursery song and men would flock to us. Succubi, on the other hand, were able to lure people to them simply by making eye contact. It didn't take much for them to entice men to them unlike Bella and Heidi who had to concentrate a bit more in order to draw men in; however, what lures were able to do that neither sirens nor succubi were able to do was to draw females to them, too. This is where they had the advantage and why Heidi had been the angler for the Volturi for so many centuries.

The guards closest to the main entrance were the first to take the bait. As soon as they were in front of us, Tanya and Irina lured them to the woods surrounding the castle where the men were waiting to decapitate them and take their robes. We continued this until several more men filtered outside before we stopped. It was time to go inside. Our mates, Peter, Garrett, Riley, Jasper, Caius, Paul, Jane, and Sulpicia were joining us. Everyone else surrounded the outside. Bree was staying outside using her keen hearing to keep everyone informed. We donned the red robes of the decapitated vampires and entered the castle. May God and Taha Aki be with us.

Heidi's POV

Yep, my best friend has lost her flipping mind. What the hell was she thinking by sacrificing herself? I was out of the cage now. Some of the women in the harem had taken Aunt Molly from me and bathed her. She was now lying on a bed with the women tending to her. It was unbelievable how caring these women were. I think after we killed the handlers, and Bella sacrificed herself, they finally trusted us.

I heard a gasp coming from Mirabelle who was wiping sweat from Aunt Molly using a washcloth. I rushed to her side. Damn it, her heart was slowing down. I swear to God, I am going to beat Bella to a pulp for leaving me here to deal with this alone.

"Oh, dear. She's going to need to feed," Mirabelle commented.

Yeah, that and a whole host of other crap that newborns need. Damn it, why is she waking up so early? She still has two days to go in her change.

Her heart came to a thundering halt. We all waited nervously, ready to deal with a ravenous newborn. Aunt Molly stretched her arms up over her head like a cat. She popped open one eye, followed by the other, and then proceeded to sit up. Quite honestly, she looked as if she was just waking up from a good night's rest. She looked directly at me and then at Mirabelle.

"Mira, it's so nice to see you again after all these years." Then she turned to me. "Heidi? Where's Renee? I need to kill her—and I mean that in the literal sense."

"Aren't you...aren't you thirsty?" Mirabelle asked, completely shocked at Aunt Molly's controlled behavior. I, for one, wasn't a bit surprised—she was a Swan, after all, and Swans were special. Look at Bella and Charlie, they... Oh, what the hell am I saying? I'm in complete shock because she is in complete control of her faculties. The Swans aren't normal at all!

"Good evening to you, Aunt Molly. I have no idea where Renee is. All I know is that we're being held prisoner in a dungeon and these women need to be saved."

She looked around the harem. "You're right they do. They all have spiral perms." And then she turned to the topic of my errant best friend. "Heidi, where is my niece?"

"Your niece—funny you should ask about her." I chuckled uncomfortably, not wanting to tell her the truth because Aunt Molly was fiercely protective of Bella.

"Why is it funny that I'm asking about my sweet girl?"

"Right. Aren't you...thirsty?"

"Stop changing the subject, Heidi! Where's Bella?"

"She demanded to be taken to the Masters," another woman replied. "She was very brave."

"She's an idiot, that's what she is. She's too self-sacrificing for her own good. Well, come on, ladies. We have to go and get her." Looks of fear etched the faces of the kidnapped women when Aunt Molly made her demand. They turned their faces away in shame. "If you're depending on just my niece to get you out of here, then that's pretty selfish of all of you. I know that you've been held captive here for decades, but now is the time for you to be courageous and save yourselves without depending on others." She eyed them all pointedly. "Do you remember Didyme?"

"Of course we do, she helped us. She sacrificed herself for us countless times."

"Interesting, she sacrificed herself for you, yet you dishonor her memory by being complacent rather than fighting back. The spirits would be most displeased."

The women all stared at her in shock. It was clear that they weren't used to being spoken to so plainly. Frankly, I couldn't believe that she was so harsh in her speech, but when I thought further on it, it occurred to me that perhaps this is what they needed. The only way they would be able to crawl out of their subjugation would be to fight back on their own. They needed this harsh dose of reality. I decided to join Aunt Molly in her quest.

"Alright, let's go get our girl," I stated out loud.

"I will join you," Mirabelle piped in with a look of determination on her face. A few other women gave cautious nods, agreeing with her. Soon, all of the women stood up.

"Well, then, let's get going." This was insane. I had a newborn and a group of lingerie clad women who have been in servitude for years in tow, but we had to get out of here—we had no choice. After I saved them, I planned on going back in for Bella because she was my best friend, and I just couldn't picture life without her.

XOXO

We climbed the stone steps that led out of the dungeon. I took the lead because I knew that I would need to decapitate a few heads in order to get out of here. That's weird. No guards. We'll just keep going then. I got to the archway that separated the stairs from the ground floor. Eve met us there along with some of her female cousins, all dressed in purple. "Follow us," she urged. "We can get out through the kitchens." She motioned for us to follow her. I made sure that all of the ladies followed Eve before branching out on my own. I had no intention of leaving yet—at least, not without my friend.

Now that I was alone, I…

"Psst. Heidi! Where to next?"

She's got to be kidding me. I can't be saddled with a newborn! I have to find my best friend.

"Hey! Your best friend happens to be my niece. If you think that I'm going to leave her all alone to fend for herself, you're sorely mistaken."

How the hell did she know what I said? I know for a fact that I didn't say that out loud.

"Sure, you didn't. I heard you loud and clear, Heidi."

Oh my God. I think Aunt Molly is a mindreader like Edward Cullen used to be.

"How dare you compare me to that…that vermin!"

Oh, yeah, she's a mindreader for sure.

"Stop calling me that!"

"Aunt Molly, you can't help what you are. I'm actually kind of envious. I've always wanted to know what other people were thinking."

"Well, I don't! I hear perverted thoughts and…" She paused and took on a look of extreme concentration. "Oh my God! I know where Bella is. We have to get her. Follow me."

"What? Wait, Aunt Molly…" It was too late. She darted through the hall and up a set of narrow steps so I had no choice, but to follow her. I finally caught up to her when we were almost at the top step. I pulled her back so she wouldn't just spring out without paying attention to her surroundings.

"Do you think I'm stupid? Gee whiz, Heidi."

Oh, yeah, she can read minds.

"Yes, I know I can read minds. That's why I rushed up here. I can read the mind of the pervert who has Bella. He wants to do unspeakable things to her. He's trying to force her to take her clothes off, but I think she has her shield up."

"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go and get her!"

"We can't."

"Why not?"

"Someone's coming."

Crap! We darted back down the stairs and hid in a little closet we found in the hallway. We bumped into a body.

"Ow!" I yelped as I was felled to the ground by a shock that felt worse than the burning embers of hell.

"Oops, sorry," Jane replied.

I was so excited to see her that I gave her a hug. I'll have to kick her ass for shocking me later. "What are you doing here?"

"What do you think I'm doing? I'm trying to save your ass!"

"Well, my ass doesn't need saving. Bella's does. Some creepy guy is trying to get her naked."

"What the hell are we doing in a closet? We have to get her and why is Aunt Molly with us?"

"Obviously, I'm here to save my niece, but shh…someone's coming."

We all fell silent at that command. We heard the sound of two men whispering as quietly as they could, but since they were idiots, we could hear them loud and clear.

"Pete, I know my wife's scent and I'm telling you that she was here."

"Well, I don't smell Bella!"

"Obviously because she's not with Heidi. I smell Jane, though, and some other vampire who smells like apple pie."

"Yeah, you're right. Damn! I smell apple pie, too. I'm hungry, Garrett."

"So am I, Pete. That apple pie reminds me of my mother."

I flung open the door and glared at the two dunderheads who were endangering us all with their reminiscing about apple pie. "Are you two trying to be homing beacons for the enemy vamps? I swear that you both don't think sometimes."

"Heidi…" my mate breathed in relief and kissed me full on the lips.

"Ahem." Garrett and I immediately stopped kissing and turned towards Maria. "Now is not the time! You can kiss and reunite later. We have to get Bella!"

"Right! Let's go. Do we have everyone?" I did a visual check…and then another…and then… "Um…" I whimpered, "Has anyone seen Aunt Molly?"

Everyone snapped to attention as they did their own visual scan for Aunt Molly. I, too, checked again for her. Yep, she's missing for sure.

"Um, Aunt Molly is a newborn," Garrett pointed. "This is not good. Not good at all."

Duh! Ya think? "Thanks for stating the obvious," I replied.

Nope, this is not good at all. Where in hell did Aunt Molly go?
