Author's Note: OH YES! Surprised you all with the sudden battle, didn't I?
Aren't I an awful troll? Also, cake for people who find the Forrest Gump reference!
I held desperately to life, and begged StarClan to please not take me away quite yet. I had to help with this battle. I need to help somehow. Lionblaze dragged me into the fish-scented camp, and cats stared coldly at us. I blinked and looked around the blurry camp.
I spotted a blur of collected shades of brown and grey eyes. I recognized it as Robinwing. I tried to glare, but I felt too weak.
I felt like I was dumped into a nest, and Lionblaze quickly explained what was going on. He looked down at me and I lashed my tail and grinned comfortingly. I saw another golden she-cat with a smaller grey she-cat with shiny fur and white paws.
She looked a lot like Mountainkit…
The grey and the other pale she-cats scrambled around the den quickly gathering up leaves. Blood continued to drip down from my ear and most of the blood of my neck was dried up now.
"This is Mothwing and Willowshine." Said Lionblaze lying down next to me. "They'll heal you before the Dark Forest has a chance to strike RiverClan."
I nodded weakly as Mothwing placed several leaves and cobwebs on my neck and Willowshine put several layers of cobwebs on my missing stump of an ear. I didn't close my eyes either, worried that if I did, I will be forever lost in the struggling shadows that will bring me to ShadowClan.
The pain eventually subsided, and half of my face was covered in white stuff and leaves and even several strands of cotton. Willowshine placed several black seeds on an orange oak leaf. I carefully licked up the seeds and felt calm wash over me and wrap me up like a mother.
"She just needs to rest now." Mothwing confirmed. She looked at her apprentice then back at Lionblaze. "Do you want to stay in here?"
Lionblaze paused. We stared at each other for a while before he said, "for as long as I can. If they manage to get to the RiverClan camp, I'll quickly get into battle." Then he dipped his head and added, "she's one of the four. I have to keep her alive."
"Is that the only r-reason?" I snapped at the golden tabby. Lionblaze looked surprised. I weakly brought up my head and glared. "Would you have left me if I wasn't part of the prophecy?"
Lionblaze didn't say anything. He brought back his ears and looked away. I narrowed my eyes and laid my head back down to sleep. I needed to rest after what has just happened.
It uneased me thinking that ShadowClan was in great danger. What about Pinenose and her kit? And Redwillow and Blackstar and everyone else? I felt on edge and scared for my Clan.
I turned my back to Lionblaze and shut my eyes. I flicked my remaining ear and sank slowly away from reality. I welcomed the blackness like a crow's feathers in my mouth. I didn't feel like dreaming at all, but surprise, surprise, I saw Russetfur and Flametail holding a conversation on the other side of the stream.
I leaped over quickly and mewed to get their attention. Flametail glanced at me and grinned like a fool. Then Russetfur glared at the ginger tom to quit staring at me like a fawn. Flametail frowned then averted his gaze.
"What's going on?" I hissed in hatred, "why would you let this happen to the Clans?"
"We are powerless, Fallensky." Russetfur pointed out. Before Flametail could say anything, she slapped her tail over his muzzle. He shot an annoyed look at her. My previous mentor went on. "The Dark Forest isn't that far from RiverClan now. You have to be ready to fight for your life and the lives around the lake. You have a purpose and unfortunately, even though you are expertized at fighting, that skill will not be needed."
"Finally. About time my purpose is being told."
Flametail smiled and he began to speak, "Lionblaze is to protect everyone. Jayfeather's purpose is already filled, he was meant to find out more information on the battle before it came. Dovewing is to warn the others as they come closer and closer. And you are to run as fast as you can as a messenger."
I faltered a little bit. Just a messenger? Is that all I ever will be? Anyway, even though it kind of was a lame role, I was prepared to accept it and run as fast I can.
Afterwards, I snapped open my eyes and looked around the den quickly. Mothwing looked at me surprised and I struggled to get up.
"Fallensky! You have to lay back down!" Willowshine commanded.
"No… it's my destiny to run as fast as I possibly can and not stop. I have to warn everyone of the impending doom!"
"Fallensky, it's the poppy seeds talking." Mothwing said quietly, "lay back down and rest."
"Shut up!" I hissed. Lionblaze stared at me in shock. "I… I need to fulfill my destined purpose in this life. I have to be a messenger." I tilted my head upwards and grinned. The cobweb still covered half of my face and leaves plastered all over my neck. I can still run if I tried.
Before they could respond, I leaped out of the den and screamed at the top of my lungs, "everyone, get ready to fight for your lives! Protect the elders and queens and kits!"
"Who are you to boss us around?"
I turned my head and stared at Robinwing who looked at me with malice in his eyes. I smiled at him and hissed, "because I'm part of a prophecy, isn't that a crapshoot? Now shut up and do as I say!" Then I leaped of the camp and bolted off for WindClan.
I felt the wind rush through my fur with insane speed. I sprinted harder and even made myself pant just a little bit. I zoomed past the gathering island with such intensity I even scared myself. I coughed as a fly buzzed straight into my mouth but I didn't stop. My paws thumped hard onto the ground, and I felt sharp stones and shards of wood get caught in my paw pads.
I slowed myself down as I approached the WindClan camp. The cats were lounging about peacefully. I spotted the gaze of a dark grey tom with cold blue eyes. I walked down to them and screamed, "the Dark Forest is coming! Get ready!"
I lashed my tail as the cats of WindClan stared in shock at me. Finally, Onestar nodded curtly at me. I smiled weakly as he prepared his warriors. I was shocked by how fast he agreed. Did he know about the prophecy as well?
That doesn't matter now though. I smiled and shot off once more across the moors. I smelled heather and blood as I leaped over the stream to ThunderClan. I was careful to jump over bushes and avoid trees. I swerved as quick as I possibly could and I almost slipped down the crevice into the camp.
Firestar looked up at me along with the rest of the Clan. I panted and screamed for them to prepare, for the battle is beginning. I felt my throat become sore and overused. One pale brown tom glared harshly at me until I saw Ivypool nod at me. Then the cats arranged themselves for battle. I was tireless, but my paws were in agony.
I looked down at my paws, seeing blood and rocks wedged between the toes. I felt so sore and weak, but I had to keep running. I then got back to sprinting. Starting off was the hardest.
But I quickly got back into the groove. I passed the border quickly, racing against time to get to ShadowClan. However, as soon as I entered the camp, I realized that I was much, much too late.
Ratscar and other warriors of the Dark Forest were already tearing apart the camp. And then it felt like a thorn was stabbed into my heart when I saw Starlingwing seriously wounded by… by Redwillow.
The tortishell tom's teeth were dripping with my clanmate's blood. I hissed and pounced atop Redwillow. The tom stared in shock at my face plasters and face dripping with the red liquid. I snarled but I couldn't bring myself to kill the traitor. I blinked slowly at my friend's mate.
Then I heard a sickening wail of greif. I looked over to see a lifeless, tiny body bleeding out her life. Her tiny black pelt slick with blood and scars. I looked up, seeing that it was Brokenstar who has murdered the kitten.
"You murderer!" Screeched Pinenose her fur bristled but she couldn't go on. She broke down in sobs and Brokenstar raised his claws to kill her. I gasped and leaped to the dark brown tom. He gasped as I pushed him down onto the pine needled ground. I hissed and lashed out my claws at his eyes. He gasped in pain and he shut his now blind eye.
He pushed his way out and bolted out of the ShadowClan camp. I hissed and I turned around, seeing Blackstar in the medicine den. I nearly choked, realizing that he has just lost a life.
I ran to the medicine den seeing Blackstar who was blinking open his eyes. He slowly blinked and shook his head. I glanced back outside, seeing Starlingwing crying out in pain. I bit my lip and sprinted over to him in just two bounds. I immediately wrapped my teeth around his scruff and dragged him through the dirt to the den where Littlecloud sat.
"Do you need help?" I asked quickly, not wanting to overwhelm the small medicine cat. Littlecloud nodded.
"Yes, I need you to put those leaves-" he motioned with his tail to a pile of smooth leaves in the corner, "on Starlingwing's wounds. You have to chew them up and put them on."
I nodded and trotted to the leaves. I quickly chewed them up, reviling at the taste. I pulled myself back over to where Starlingwing was laying and I spat out the gunk of green saliva and leaves. I plastered them on Starlingwing's bleeding shoulder. The orange tom looked up at me and smiled. He didn't even flinch at my wrappings or missing ear. He just smiled like a loving brother.
I smiled back and smoothed out the leaves. Then I glanced outside. I nearly jumped when I saw Blackstar out there. He slipped out of the den to fight again!
He was facing down Redwillow, who was snarling. The tortishell orange, yellow and black tom said, "I'm loyal to my new Clan! Your time is over, you're nothing but an elder growing old over and over. Why don't you just give up and die?"
I couldn't stand to watch this. I shut my eyes as Blackstar shouted out at Redwillow, then proceeded to kill Redwillow.
I refused to look at them. I looked down at Starlingwing who watched pitifully. "It must be hard. Knowing that your leader is killing your friend."
"Shut up!" I growled at him. I averted my gaze as Redwillow screamed in pain Blackstar ended his life and treachery.
Starlingwing blinked then stood up. He narrowed his eyes and leaped into the fight to help Dawnpelt who looked seriously overwhelmed by Dark Forest cats.
I watched in horror as the fight went on and on. Littlecloud said I couldn't fight due to my serious wounds. I stared as a tom from ThunderClan helped Blackstar kill off Ratscar.
No. I wanted to be the one who kills him!
Or maybe it's better to not have the blood of murder stain my paws for the rest of my life?
The grey tom with a darker stripe running down his back snarled at Ratscar and they tumbled. Ratscar was already weak from the fight with Lionblaze, and it didn't take much to bring him down.
I laid down and blinked.
Then a wild howl split the air.
I looked up and flicked my ear. Ratscar now laid dead on the ground along with many other cats. Blackstar was panting with the grey ThunderClanner and his own warriors. He looked up at the sky, seeing that it was beginning to snow. I looked up as well. I brought myself out of the den and felt snowflakes drop down on my head.
I perked my ears up at a sweetly familiar voice. It was my apprentice, "Blackstar, Firestar has lost his last life!"
Blackstar stared at Stoatpaw for a long time before he slumped down and shook his head. "No. N-no. That idiotic tom was supposed to outlive me."
I blinked slowly and walked up to Stoatpaw. He backed up a little bit in shock seeing my mangled face. I grinned a little and whispered, "let's go to the ThunderClan camp together, okay?"
There was a silence for a long time. No more warriors were fighting. Stoatpaw nodded and we walked out of the camp together to the ThunderClan camp.
I didn't run. I didn't want to. It didn't take long, considering I knew the shortest route to the Clan. Stoatpaw followed me through the thick brush, and we slid down into the rocky camp of ThunderClan.
The fiery ginger tom lay dead on the ground in the middle of the camp. Snow drifted down on everyone's pelts, and their heads were dipped. I looked down at Stoatpaw and we walked down. A dark brown tabby tom with gleaming amber eyes shocked me. I blinked, thinking at first it was Tigerstar.
Then I realized that it was really Brambleclaw, the deputy of ThunderClan.
"F-Firestar is actually… dead…" whispered a white she-cat with orange patches and a mangled face, half way torn off revealing bright pink flesh and a missing eye. I looked back up at the brown tom and I dipped my head.
"I suppose…" I started quietly, "that you are now the leader of ThunderClan?"
Brambleclaw blinked. Then he smiled and nodded.
It hurt so much to see not a dead leader, but the Clan in pain. It tore at my almost physically and I winced at the cats who half-heartedly cheered out for Bramblestar. I looked at Stoatpaw and I said softly, "Let's head back before I start crying..."
I walked back to camp with weary feet, and a horrible feeling I haven't felt in a year came over me. It started off slowly, and now it is full on forceful, making me want to lay down and rest for many, many moons.
Stoatpaw realizing my newfound pain and I even began to limp. My apprentice gasped when I laid down in the entrance to the ShadowClan camp. I grinned and slowly began to close my eyes. My power is fading away because the battle is over, just as Bluestar has claimed would happen.
I felt the cold leaves brush my fur and snow litter my pelt. Tigerheart, Starlingwing and other members of ShadowClan rushed up to my limp body. I was panting very slowly drawing in short ragged breaths.
I opened my mouth to speak then closed it again.
Littlecloud hovered over me, including the seriously wounded Blackstar. Stoatpaw looked up at everyone and said, "Guys, I think she's going to say something."
It took a very long time for me to choke out the words, and I was too tired and weak to even lash my tail. I shut my eyes and took a long, weary breath before saying as I slipped into a sleepy darkness, "I… I'm really tired…"
