-Chapter 36-
Pandora
Michael's standing behind Birkhoff while he's doing something on the computer to help us find mommy. Michael's still holding me in his arms as I whimper tearfully. "Mommy..."
"Shh... We'll find her, pumpkin." Michael kisses me on the lips. "And the three of us will be together again..."
"Okay..." Birkhoff sighs as he turns around to look at us. "You're right. Nikita's still alive."
His words makes both Michael and I smile happily. That means mommy will come back to us...
"What did you find?" Michael asks him.
"I intercepted two of her latest phone call." Birkhoff says before pressing something on the computer, and then we hear mommy's voice.
"Ryan?" Mommy's voice sounds VERY nervous and she's panting. "It's all wrong... Everything's wrong... The box... Alex... She's compromised... It's compromised... It's a set-up. Listen, it's triggered by an electric charge. Don't touch the box!"
And then, mommy's voice stops. I start crying harder again. "I miss mommy..." Mommy sounds as if she might be a little hurt...
"Shh... I know, sweetie." Michael rubs my head softly before looking back to Birkhoff. "And the second phone call?"
"Yep." Birkhoff says as he clicks something on the computer again.
"Central Intelligence?" A woman's voice sounds.
"There is a bio weapon disguised as a hard drive on your campus." Mommy's voice sounds VERY worried. "Get it from the seventh floor."
"Identify yourself?" The woman says.
"I'm on a covert status." Mommy says. "I can't identify myself on an open line."
"Ma'am, I can't transfer you without an extension." The woman says.
"Ugh! You're useless!" Mommy sound very angry as there's a weird squealing sound...
And then, silence again until Birkhoff speaks up again. "She's heading towards Langley."
"Then that's where we're going too." Michael says, sounding as if he's really sure of something. "I want a view from all the cameras inside that place." He tells Birkhoff...

"I got her. I see her." Birkhoff's words makes Michael walk over to him quickly as I'm sitting on a chair, holding onto Lily tightly.
"Where?" Michael frowns.
"Front door." Birkhoff says.
"What?!" Michael's eyes widen. "Is she out of her mind?!"
Vision
Mommy walks into a BIG building with LOTS of people inside. Mommy walks straight up to a woman who's sitting in front of a computer. "I need to see someone in Intelligence." Mommy says to her. "I understand you guys specialize in that around here."
"And your name?" The woman asks.
Mommy's silent for a moment. "Nikita." Mommy tells the woman seriously...
End Vision
"What the hell is she thinking walking straight into Langley in broad daylight?" Michael mutters worriedly. 'Ryan is inside the building Nikita's inside right now.'
I stand up and walk over to Michael. I pull on his arm, making him look down at me. "Michael, computer mama says that Ryan is inside where mommy is." I tell him. "He'll help mommy, right? He said so. He said that he won't let mommy get hurt."
Michael crouches down in front of me with a small smile. "Did he now?" He asks.
"Yes, he did." I nod before biting down on my red lips. "So mommy will be okay, right?" I tilt my head.
"Of course." Michael smiles and rubs my head before standing back up and looking back to Birkhoff. "I want you to keep a firm eye on Nikita and Langley."
"What are you going to do?" Birkhoff frowns.
"Make preparations." Michael says.
"Preparations for what?" Birkhoff asks, sounding a little worried.
Michael looks at Birkhoff seriously. "Break into Langley if I've to."
Birkhoff's mouth drops open as he widens his eyes at Michael as if he can't believe what he's hearing...

Vision
Mommy shoots her handgun at a silver, metal door four times. On the other side of the door, Ryan is talking with three other men.
Ryan stands up when he hears the gunshots. He walks over to the door and presses a button to open it. "Get out of there!" Mommy yells at them as soon as the door opens.
The room is randomly filled with white smoke after a quiet poof sound. The smoke makes the men cough and cover their mouths.
Mommy quickly helps Ryan and the other men out of there before the door closes. A red light starts shining round and round the hallway mommy's standing in.
Very soon, four other men runs towards mommy with guns raised towards her. "Drop it!" One of them shouts at mommy. Mommy does what he says and drops the gun as she kneels down on the floor and puts her hands behind her head.
My straight nose twitches. I don't like those men, they're mean to mommy... I feel something in my tummy rolls round and round nervously. I hope they don't hurt mommy...

Mommy is sitting in a room with Ryan and two other men. Mommy's hand is handcuffed to a weird looking thing on an empty table.
"Just let me stay in contact with her." Ryan is saying to a dark-skinned man. "And we'll deliver the intel directly to you."
"Get him out of here." The dark-skinned man says to the third man about Ryan.
The third man is about to grab Ryan when mommy speaks up. "Just wait..."
The dark-skinned man raises a hand for the third man to stop. "I'm sorry." Ryan says to mommy, sounding as if he really means it.
"It's worth a try, right?" Mommy shrugs sadly. "Maybe you can use this to launch quite an investigation."
"That can be hard to do from eleven floors, or the super max prison in Colorado, depends on where I end up." Ryan mutters with a sigh.
"Ryan, you didn't do anything." Mommy tells him. "This attack is all Division."
Mommy's silent for a moment as her eyes grow wet and a tear rolls down her cheek before she quickly wipes it away.
"Just tell Infinity that I'm sorry, okay?" Mommy says to Ryan tearfully. "That even though I promised to take care of her and protect her, I couldn't do it... Tell her that I love her with all of my heart and make sure that she stays close to Michael and help me get both of them into hiding, okay?"
My eyes VERY quickly grows wet and fuzzy at mommy's words as I start crying... Is mommy going to leave me?
"You're not leaving Infinity." Ryan shakes his head quickly.
"Ryan, what are you..." Mommy starts with a frown but is interrupted when Ryan VERY quickly grabs a chair beside him and uses it to smack the third man down on the floor before quickly grabbing a handgun and pointing it at the dark-skinned man.
Then, Ryan grabs a key from the third man, who's now laying on the floor. Ryan tosses it to mommy. Mommy catches it and quickly unlocks the handcuff that's around her wrist.
"I'm sorry, sir." Ryan says to the dark-skinned man.
"Not as sorry as you're going to be, Fletcher." The dark-skinned man shakes his head at Ryan unhappily.
"I expect you to break me out of prison as soon as you get the chance." Ryan turns to mommy with a small smile.
Mommy runs over to Ryan and gives him a tearful kiss on the cheek. "Thank you... And you can count on it." Mommy tells him before quickly running off...
End Vision
"Look, before you go all bad ass..." Birkhoff says to Michael. "I can get remote access to the intercoms in Langley."
"Then do it!" Michael growls impatiently.
"Okay, sheesh..." Birkhoff mutter before turning back to the computer and plugging a microphone into the computer before pressing a few buttons before speaking up into it. "Paging special agent Nikki..." Birkhoff starts before Michael interrupts him.
"Special agent Nikki, please proceed to the nearest telephone now, 626." Michael talks into the microphone too.
I tilt my head. I don't know who they're talking to, but it looks as if they're talking to the computer...
But very quickly, mommy's voice sounds. "Michael? ... And Birkhoff?" I quickly stand up at the sound of mommy's voice and tries to run towards it, but I trip and fall.
"Ouchy..." I whimper with a pout as Michael walks over to me with a smile and picks me up into his arms. "You wanna talk to mommy?" He smiles at me.
"Uh-huh." I nod tearfully as he carries me over to Birkhoff and the computer.
"You okay?" Michael asks mommy through the computer.
"I'll be when you get me out of here." Mommy says. "How's Infinity?"
"Mommy..." I sniffle and cry. "I miss you..."
"I miss you too." Mommy tells me softly. "Mommy's coming back to you very soon. So you be a good girl, and don't cry so much, okay?"
"Okay..." I hiccup and rub my wet eyes.
"Can you get a mobile com?" Michael asks her. I don't know what a mobile com is...
"Give me a sec." Mommy says.
After a moment's silence, mommy speaks up again. "Yeah, I got a talkie. SQ rectangle 431..."
Birkhoff is typing something onto the computer. The computer beeps and a picture with lots of white lines pops up on the screen. "Proceed onto the quarter studio and make your way north." Michael tells her.
"SRU headed your way." Birkhoff tells her.
"Get rid of them." Michael mutters to Birkhoff.
"Unit twelve, we've an intruder spotted in collection strategies." Birkhoff clears his throat before saying into the microphone. "Men's lavatory, please respond."
I don't know what a lavatory is... 'A lavatory is a washroom.'
"Here's what we're thinking for the exfil." Michael speaks into the microphone.
"Talk to me." Mommy says.
"I've your escape route." Michael says. "You need to go out with the evidence, sub-level two."
"I'm here." Mommy says quickly.
"Incinerator room." Michael says just before the computer screen blacks out with a loud buzz.
"What the hell happened?" Michael says angrily.
"I... I lost it." Birkhoff stutters. "They dumped me. Damn it!" I pout sadly. I can't hear mommy's voice anymore...

Birkhoff is still trying to get the computer working again when Michael's phone rings. 'It's Nikita.' I smile a little as I'm sitting on the floor. Mommy's calling...
"Where the hell are you?" Michael answers his phone worriedly.
'I'm safe.' Computer mama tells me what mommy's saying. 'I rode out on a loading mane on a garbage truck. They were still evacuating the building. I called you as soon as I was safe.'
"Look, Infinity and I aren't safe here." Michael says. "But Birkhoff only needs five more minutes to decrypt the rest of the black box."
'What?'
"It is the time to get a good look at the truth." Michael says. "All of it."
'Michael...'
"I'll explain it to you later." Michael says. "But right now, we need to decide where we're going to meet up."
'Okay, but first, you need to torch the loft. You and Infinity meet me at the first American building at 24:00 hours.'
"Got it." Michael says before hanging up the phone.
"You mind explaining to me?" Birkhoff raises an eyebrow at Michael.
"Look, for every truth in that box, there is a lie out there in the world." Michael sighs. "Innocent people who we're being framed for crimes they didn't commit. Corrupt people are in charge thanks to crimes that no one knows about. And that's why Infinity is in so much danger, because only the information contained within her shows the entire truth. And unless it ends, completely ends, she is never going to be safe."
I don't really understand much of what Michael's saying, but I think he wants to protect me... It makes something inside me have a happy, ticklish feeling...
I stand up and walk over to me. I raise my arms towards him and tilt my head up towards him too with a smile. "Michael, hug-hug?"
"Sure." Michael smiles a little as he picks me up and hugs me close to him.
"So you're just gonna go off to play lone ranger?" Birkhoff says to Michael while shaking his head. "Forget about Division, you're going to have the entire world hunting you down." That sounds scary...
"Infinity's worth it." Michael says, sounding as if he really believes in what he's saying. I feel a warm, fuzzy feeling from inside of me. It make me really happy, so I give him a BIG kiss on the cheek.
"I love you." I tell him with a BIG smile.
"I love you too." Michael laughs a little as he rubs his head.
Just then, the black box beeps before Birkhoff unplugs it from the computer. Birkhoff stands up and gives it to him. "You and Nikki be careful out there." He tells Michael. "And as for the little munchkin, she's lucky to have the two of you."
Birkhoff's words makes me nod. "Yes, I am." I say, making both of them laugh. I don't really know why they're laughing, but that ticklish feeling from inside of me makes me giggle.
"Thanks, Birkhoff." Michael smiles at him. "But just one more favor, you mind torching this place for us? It's not really appropriate for Infinity to see that."
"Sure." Birkhoff smiles crookedly...

Michael is holding my hand as he takes me to the place where we're meeting mommy. It's on the rooftop of a tall building.
When we get there, Mommy's already standing there, waiting for us. Mommy smiles VERY happily and runs over to us as soon as she sees us.
Mommy VERY quickly picks me up and hugs me tightly to her. "Hi, honey..."
"I love you, mommy." I hug mommy back happily.
"I love you too." Mommy says VERY happily.
"And I love both of you." Michael says as he pulls both of us into his arms, making me giggle as mommy laughs...
