Anne's POV:
I slid into the front seat of my car, and took a deep breath. I need to tell Jason something, but I have no idea how to tell him. I know he'll most likely be happy, but I also know that he'll probably be worried, as well. Especially now that Nina is a Mom, and she, the babies and Fabian are staying with us. I started up the car and began the drive towards the hospital, musing over how to tell Jason. Realizing that Father's Day was coming up, and Fabian was a new Dad, I decided to pick out a card for him. I pulled into a store parking lot, and went in. After spending a few minutes looking at cards, I found a couple that I really liked, and I bought them. I hopped back into the car, and continued on the way to the hospital. When I arrived, I found Nina asleep, and Fabian sitting in a chair next to the bed, holding one of the babies.
"How are they doing?" I whispered, moving to stand next to Fabian.
"They're all fine. Do you want to hold Emma?" Fabian asked, standing up and holding her out to me. I nodded, and took the small bundle from his arms. Fabian moved over to the bassinet, and picked up Jack. I took a seat on the couch that was against one wall, and Fabian sat down next to me.
"Did your parents know that Nina was pregnant?" I inquired.
"No, they didn't. I was going to tell them soon, but then Nina went into labor, and before I could say anything, the babies were here." Fabian answered.
"If you want me to be there when you tell them, I will be." I said, looking down at Emma. She looked so small, and I wondered if her brother would protect her when they grew up.
"Thank you, Anne. I'd like that." Fabian replied.
"You're welcome, Fabian. Now, if you don't mind…I'd like for you to answer a couple of questions, okay?" I asked.
"Sure. What do you want to know?" Fabian replied.
"Who is the biological father of Emma and Jack? Why doesn't Nina want him in the picture?" I asked.
"His name is Jerome. He and Nina were dating earlier in the year, and then, according to Nina, he started acting very strange. But then, he went further, one morning. He shoved her against a wall, and left a bruise on her collarbone. And then, when Nina and I were doing homework, Jerome came in to talk to her, and Jerome grabbed her, wouldn't let go, and Nina broke up with him. Then he punched her in the eye. Nina and I got together a little while after that. I tried to tell Jerome that he didn't treat anyone the way he treated Nina, but he ended up giving me a black eye and a couple of other bruises." Fabian explained.
"Oh my God." I gasped. I couldn't believe that Nina had gone through all that.
"Anne?" Nina's said, her voice sounding tired.
"Sorry, Nina, did I wake you?" I inquired.
"No, you didn't. How are the babies?" Nina asked.
"They're doing well. Do you want to hold Emma?" I inquired. Nina nodded, and I walked over and handed her Emma.
"Well, as long as everything is going okay, I'm going to head back. Fabian, are you staying here?" I asked.
"Yeah, I am. The doctor said I could stay overnight." Fabian replied.
"Okay. I'll see you four in the morning." I said, gently hugging Nina and kissing Emma and Jack on their foreheads.
