DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN VAMPIRE KNIGHT, ONLY YVELTA GRIMM

Once Yvelta had been put down as a teacher for at the Academy, she quickly settled into a routine. She would wake up in the early afternoon, with Hanabusa snoring softly as he nuzzled into her neck.

'Five more minutes…' He would mumble, almost every time. Yvelta would shake her head, kiss him with a smile, and proceed to find somewhere to train for two hours. Very occasionally, Hanabusa would join her in that training, but he usually preferred to do it after classes, not before.

After training, Yvelta would then prepare herself for the day ahead. She was only required to teach the Night Class. They had teachers aplenty for the day class, all drawn there by Sara Shirabuki's deadly charm. Yvelta avoided them like the plague.

She taught history and languages. Having a unique grasp of both was incredibly handy in this situation, and she delighted in setting her students tasks which would require them to look outside of the textbooks she loathed so much. Unfortunately, she also had to deal with Yuki's incompetence. Finally a member of the Night Class, her studiousness had not improved in the slightest, and Hanabusa had once again begun tutoring her.

On her way to class one afternoon, passing by the gates to the Moon Dorms, she found that, as in previous years, the Day Class students were swarming to see the evening students. Many she recognised as people who had disliked her immensely. They seemed to recognise her, too, and the looks on their faces were far from friendly.

No Kyru this year. Yvelta hoped that Nyx was keeping him safe. She headed for the classrooms without another look at the Day Class students. There was a shadow in the trees to her left, and she glanced over, centaur sight allowing her to see who it was without issue.

'I may be the most dangerous threat here, vampire hunter Zero, but that doesn't make me the biggest.' She said wryly, and she saw his eyes widen slightly.

'Should I even ask how you knew?' His monotone voice sounded even more flat than usual.

'That depends on your level of curiosity. I'm quite happy to explain it to you if you wish, but I don't think you're actually all that interested in the origins of my unusual eyes.'

He snorted. 'They're not the only thing that's unusual about you.'

Yvelta clapped mockingly. 'Bravo. So very observant, as always. Now go look after her and protect us from the big, bad vampires.'

'I don't know what you're talking about.' He turned his head away.

Yvelta cackled mirthlessly. 'Oh, you poor thing. You don't need a centaur's eyes to see that your love for her hasn't abated in the slightest.'

Zero just muttered and walked away.

Arriving in the classroom, she set it up in preparation for her lessons. History was first. The students filed in soon after, popping blood tablets as they did so. Yvelta frowned. That was most unusual. Usually they took them before class. Never during. It was considered rude.

This happened several times throughout the lesson, to the point where she nearly confiscated them. The looks the offending vampires gave her would have frozen fire. That didn't bother her in the slightest, she glared right back and felt a sick sense of satisfaction when the vampires twitched, suddenly fearful. But she would have to look into this tablet business further.

After classes ended, she pulled Yuki aside. 'Did you notice anything odd today?'

Yuki frowned. 'A lot of them were taking tablets, even though I told them that have to save that for the dorms.'

Yvelta nodded. 'The tablets look different to the previous kind. Is this a new type? I think it might be an idea to look into it. Clearly something is wrong here.'

Yuki agreed, and promised to look into the matter as soon as she was able to.

Returning to her abode, Yvelta found Hanabusa grumbling to himself. He didn't hear her enter, so she stood against the door frame watching him for a while.

Eventually he turned around and jumped slightly when he saw her. 'You shouldn't sneak up on people, it's mean.' He whined.

Yvelta raised an eyebrow. 'I had no reason to sneak. You were merely too distracted to hear me.'

Hanabusa grumbled again, and Yvelta laughed. 'What has you so irritated, my dear?' She walked over to him and slid her hands over his shoulders, massaging his tense muscles.

'It's Yuki.' He practically purred as her hands worked their magic. 'She's difficult to tutor and she doesn't understand how she is supposed to uphold the pureblood reputation. She's basically offered herself to the Night Class as a servant…' He groaned and put his head in his hands. 'How am I supposed to fix that?'

Yvelta sighed. 'I don't believe you can fix it. She's a human at heart, not a pureblood. She doesn't understand.'

'We're so screwed…' He groaned again.

Later that night, unable to sleep, Yvelta decided to go out for a walk. There was a cool breeze rustling the leave of the forest trees, but it wasn't loud enough to conceal the fact that she was being followed. Humouring her pursuer, she continued to walk until they were far enough into the forest to be completely concealed.

'Are you going to reveal yourself now, or are you going to keep pretending to yourself that I don't know you're there?' She called out to the trees behind her.

Two vampires emerged, Night Class students. But there was something wrong with them. Their eyes were red, and they were panting. These were the main offenders in her class earlier. Surely the blood tablets would still have been in effect?

'Having issues with your thirst, hmm?' Yvelta eyed them warily. She would be able to take them down in a heartbeat if necessary, but she was certain that she would be in for lectures from several people as a result. She'd have to do it carefully.

The vampires said nothing, just leaped at her. Sighing, Yvelta knocked them back as softly as she could. They came for her again when she heard running feet. Yuki and Zero burst through the trees just as Yvelta got a good hold on the head of each vampire, holding them in place.

'What's going on?' Yuki asked breathlessly. Zero already had Bloody Rose pointed at them.

'Oh, for Odin's sake, Zero, you don't need to shoot them.' Yvelta rolled her eyes. 'I have them quite incapacitated.'

Zero raised an eye at the flailing arms of the two vampires, but said nothing.

Yuki began trying to talk to them about the fact that they were breaking school rules already, but she got too close, and they suddenly lunged for her. Yvelta released them, wanting to see how Yuki would defend herself, but immediately slapped her face onto her hand when Yuki just let them bite her.

'You are quite possibly the worst vampire in existence.' Yvelta muttered as Yuki flinched at the pain. However, her blood seemed to be having an effect on them. Whatever trance they had appeared to be in was gone now. They were apologising profusely, and demanding punishment for their actions. Yuki sent them back to the dorm with no punishment at all.

'Really? No punishment?' Yvelta said incredulously.

'It wasn't their fault.' Yuki pleaded.

'You are unbelievable…' Yvelta shook her head, throwing her hands up in defeat. Who was she to stop the pureblood princess from being a complete idiot?

'Do you have any suspicions?' Yuki asked quietly.

'Yes.' Yvelta answered instantly. 'Those damned blood tablets. You need to learn whatever you can about those as quickly as possible, or we're going to have a massacre on our hands.'

Yuki grimaced. 'I did some research after class. They were made by Takuma's company, under the direction of Sara Shirabuki.'

Yvelta's eyes narrowed. 'Ah, the pureblood spider, getting vampires stuck in her web of seduction and lies. Those tablets will be tainted, you can count on it. She's up to something, and I fear it's far worse than we first feared.'

Zero had remained silent during the entire exchange, but now he muttered, 'Never trust a pureblood.'

Yuki looked at little hurt at that comment. Yvelta agreed with it.

'Come, then. Back to the dorms. You need your sleep for class tomorrow. From what Hanabusa tells me, you'll have to work far harder than everybody else.' Yvelta gave Yuki a wry smile. The latter blushed and pouted.

'It's not my fault I don't know this stuff.'

'Oh really? How much time exactly have you spent doing nothing at the Kuran mansion when you could have been catching up on all the learning you missed while you were human? Hmm?' Yvelta pushed Yuki back towards the dorms, while Zero went off to finish his rounds.

Yuki didn't have an answer for that. She just crossed her arms and sulked.

When Yvelta eventually returned to her bed, her sleep was fitful, and she dreamed of spiders that mocked her with Sara Shirabuki's laugh…
