Chapter 37

Divided

*Silas*

Her lips lay on mine for countless seconds almost impossible to detach. She slowly pulls away locking herself on me. "Did that help at all?" she asks. I'm practically speechless. "Maybe…" I cut myself off, forcing my lips back onto hers. She's taken with surprise as I kiss her over and over again. After a few minutes things begin to escalate. I start to force her body back up against the brick wall behind her. She doesn't try to fight it. Instead she begins rustling her fingers through my hair, violently pulling me in closer. Needing air I pull my head back and take a look at her. The woman's eyes are wide open and focused on me and only me.

"You know I still don't know your name." There's a short moment of silence. "Ava" she says. "My name is Ava." Without hesitation I return to kissing her repeatedly. Our bodies press up against one another's, refusing to get anything but closer. Every time we come up for air I'm once again swelled with thoughts of that woman Sam. I just need a distraction.

Snapping myself out of it I grab Ava's wrist and force them back against the wall, restraining her as we continue. She seems to enjoy the roughness. I slowly move my lips down to her neck causing her to tilt her head back, granting me access. "Oh Silas…" she slithers. Her nails dig into my back in pleasure. If it wasn't so cold out I swear we'd be half naked right about now. But the temperature is barely noticeable when things get to this point. Hastily Ava unzips my coat undertaking the moment. I'm about to do the same with hers but instead I slide my lips back up to hers and kiss her once more before forcing myself away. "What's wrong?" she asks. I would reply but the truth is I don't quite understand myself. I think she can see there's something off by the way I'm reacting. "Silas" she says.

"I'm sorry" I quickly respond. "From my standards there's nothing to be sorry about." "I didn't mean it that way….. I just need some time to think things through." She smiles at me. "I get it." Ava kisses me once more. "Next time you need to blow off some steam don't hesitate to call….. and I won't hesitate to be there." Her hand slips off my shoulder and I watch her walk away with all the confidence in the world. I scuff off my jacket, clearing my head of this crazy day.

The sun is almost nothing on the horizon and I don't care to be on these docks at nightfall. I walk down the road to Kelly's diner for a bite to eat before heading home for the night. The moon and the stars are out and shining as bright as they usually are in the summer. It brings me back to the warmth and security that comes with the less than bitter season. I finally reach my front door relieved that the day has finally come to a calm ending. My mind set leads me straight to the liquor sitting in plain sight. If there's anything from the day I had this whole bottle would be gone in a short hour. I only drink one knowing I need to be partially sober if I'm going to actually want to get some rest.

I swallow the end of my glass and set it back down next to the bottle. The house would be pitch-black if not for the full moon dimly lighting it. I walk myself down the hallway towards my room ready to turn in. My hand finds the doorknob and easily forces the door open. Once I have clear vision I'm frozen in place completely baffled by what I see.
