His blood raced through his veins. Her screams rang in his ears as he stared at his hands, which had been slicked with the blood of the demon that had dared attacked what it was his. And, despite her mournful wails and sobs and screams of despair, he found himself walking towards her, calm. His intent was clear to the others.
Stay back. She is mine.

"Fenikkusu," Inuyasha gritted out, struggling to keep track of his wench, who was racing around the village with children. "I'm kinda busy here."
The phoenix had rushed in moments ago, desperate to get the half-demon to listen to him. And he would make the man listen if he had to shake him violently. "Inuyasha," he rasped, "This is important, you must listen."
"What?" he finally exploded. "I'm busy trying to keep track of my wench!" he snarled. "What could possibly be more important than that?"
Fenikkusu found himself amused at the amount of stressed words the half-demon used. He cleared his throat. "Plenty of things, including a demon you need to be aware of, Inuyasha." This caught his attention and golden eyes locked with fiery green ones. "Yes, there is a demon coming. One that needs to be defeated, and soon. For some reason, my view of some moment in time has been erased, and it worries me. The times after it, too." He shook his head. "It worries me greatly that I am no longer trusted with this information. But I am positive that it has to do with this demon. As far as I know, it is a demon of the elements."
Inuyasha furrowed his brow, flattening his ears. "A demon of the elements?"
Fenikkusu nodded. "They control an element, just a single one, or if you're unlucky, more. This one seems to have a fondness of water, Inuyasha. Stay away from streams that you do not recognize and for heaven's sake, keep Kagome away from them!"
The half-demon's eyes darkened with worry and he gave a huff. "I'll watch her then," he murmured to himself. He then grunted in surprise when Shippo slammed into him at full force, giggling. The fox kit had recovered from the strange demon man. "Oi! Watch it, runt, that hurt!"
"Sorry," Shippo gasped, then shrieked as Kagome came flying into the two of them as well, sending all three of them sprawling to the ground. She blinked, then burst into giggles. Shippo rolled with laughter on the ground, while Inuyasha curled a lip and sat up, rolling his eyes. But his eyes were soft with amusement, and he found himselves catching gazes with Kagome, a grin spreading across his face.
Fenikkusu chuckled, though his eyes gleamed with worry. Something big is coming, Inuyasha, he thought as he watched the small...well, family. And I am not quite sure if it will end well for anyone. Your demon side has settled down for now, it recognizes your intents. But do not let it out before you are ready to reveal yourself to her, for it will break her apart.
He cleared his throat to get the attention of Inuyasha, Kagome, and Shippo. "I believe," he told them, "That I will go see Kibo and Tanoshi. Sango was worried about them, she believes that Tanoshi is ill, yes?" With that, he turned and started for the village house that belonged to the ex-slayer and the monk.
Inuyasha rolled his eyes, turning his attention on Kagome when she squirmed, trying to get up, but stuck in his lap. Snorting quietly, he instead pulled her against him in his lap, burying his nose in her hair. "Whatever demon it is," he mumbled, nuzzling her head, "He won't touch you."
Unable to truly hear what he was saying, Kagome merely rubbed his ear, her eyes gentle. She kissed his cheek, then gently pushed away, intent on chasing after Shippo again. She prepared, and then laughed when Shippo took off at a dead run, practically screaming his excitement to the warm atmosphere that the season of growing leaves had spread over the village.
A touch of sadness hit him. Kagome didn't know quite yet, but she would soon. Kaede was dying. He had smelled the scent on her, as had Fenikkusu and Shippo. When Shippo had discovered the scent, he'd opened his mouth to blurt it out in front of half the village. Inuyasha had quickly knocked him out before carrying him off by the tail, amusing half the villagers and worrying Kagome, though she had quickly been distracted by a purring Kirara, who had also smelled the scent.
The frail woman rarely left the hut she now stayed in, sharing with a friend of hers.
Need to take the wench to say goodbye soon. That old hag won't make it to the hot season, he thought, then furrowed his brow. He sighed, shaking his head. Kagome had vanished with Shippo again, damn it!
"Inuyasha!"
"Come help us would you?"
"Yeah, we could use some help over here!"
He jerked his head around, startled. A couple of men were hauling a massive log that was too large for them. He raised an eyebrow, no longer hesitating before he retorted, "Why should I? You got yourselves into the mess. Get yourselves out of it."
"Come now, Inuyasha," Miroku said as he brushed past him, moving to help. "Perhaps you can get some payment out of it!"
"We ain't paying ya, monk," one of the villagers warned, though his eyes showed that he held no real irritation with Miroku. Inuyasha sighed, shaking his head.
"You weaklings are pathetic," he told them as he easily lifted the log onto his shoulder, though grunting with the effort. He glanced over his free shoulder at them. "Well? Where do ya want it?"

He knew she was asleep. He also knew that it was going to be bad night for her nightmares. She was curled up on her futon, just as she always was at sunset, and was already twitching and whimpering. And he was a few feet away, in his human form, watching the world outside from where he sat leaning against the doorway, not wanting anyone to surprise him. He hated these nights, absolutely hated them.
But they were well worth it. He'd go completely human if it would get his wench her memories back.
...okay, so maybe he wasn't completely human. Humans didn't have those thoughts, claiming something as 'theirs', did they?
A scream broke him out of his thoughts and he jerked his head around in time to see Kagome shoot up, already sobbing into her hands. Her entire form trembled with the fear she felt, and he moved over to her. "Kagome," he murmured quietly, gently running his fingers through her raven locks, trying to soothe her, reassure her that he was there.
She sobbed wildly, crawling into his lap and curling up against his side. Her eyes were wide with fear. "Water," she croaked, and he frowned, looking down at her in confusion.
"What'd you say?" he asked gently, concern etched onto his brow.
"Water," she repeated, scrubbing the tears out of her eyes as best as she was able. She turned her eyes to him. "I not breathe, water everywhere, Inuyasha." She shuddered violently. Her hands reached up to touch his cheeks, reassuring herself that he was here and trying to bring herself back down to reality. "Water," she whispered again, giving a shaky sigh. "Water."
He hated when they (the nightmares) scared her to the point that she began to babble mindlessly, not allowing her to explain what she'd seen. He kissed herforehead. "There's no water in here," he murmured reassuringly. "There's no water at all. Why would you think of water, wench?"
Inuyasha growled quietly at the memory, his grip around her tightening. "Was there a demon?" he asked softly.
Kagome nodded against him, shuddering again. "Yeah," she whispered, "There was a demon. Her name is Mizu." Kagome sobbed. "She said she was coming."
A low growl escaped him. Or an attempted growl and he tightened his grip around her, letting her take Tetsusaiga and hug it for comfort, something that had become not so strange after a while. "Well she won't get you," he whispered quietly to her. But a thought raced through his mind.
How had the witch gotten into Kagome's dreams?
