The Parting of the Ways part 2

''Doctor, what's going on?'' Jimmy called as the TARDIS began to move, ''It's moving!''

''What is he doing?'' Olivia asked fearfully.

Jimmy ran to the doors and began pounding at them furiously, ''Doctor, what have you done?'' he screamed.

As he continued hitting the doors, a hologram of the Doctor appeared in the centre of the room, ''This is Emergency Programme One,'' it said, replicating the Time Lord's voice perfectly, ''Jimmy, Olivia, now listen, this is important. If this message is activated, then it can only mean one thing. We must be in danger. And I mean fatal. I'm dead or about to die any second with no chance of escape. And that's okay. Hope it's a good death. But I promised to look after you both, and that's what I'm doing. The TARDIS is taking you home.''

Olivia looked at Jimmy, who glanced at the floor.

''The TARDIS can never return for me,'' the hologram continued, ''Emergency Programme One means I'm facing an enemy that should never get their hands on this machine. So this is what you should do: let the TARDIS die. Just let this old box gather dust. No one can open it; no one will even notice it. Let it become a strange little thing standing on a street corner. And over the years, the world will move on and the box will be buried. And if you want to remember me, then you can do one thing. That's all. One thing,'' the hologram suddenly turned to face Olivia, before looking at Jimmy on the other side of the room, ''Have a good life. Do that for me, the two of you. Have a fantastic life,'' the hologram disappeared, and the familiar sound of the TARDIS materialising filled their ears. Olivia sunk into the captain's chair while Jimmy went to take a look outside, finding himself on Frederick Street. He stepped back into the TARDIS.

''Come on, Liv,'' he called half heartedly, the blonde picked herself up and slowly walked towards the doors, leaning against them when she stepped out.

The Doctor was still working on the Delta Wave.

''Jimmy, I've called up the internal laser codes,'' Jack said over the intercom, ''There should be a different number on every screen - can you read them out to me?''

''He's not here,'' the Doctor replied, not even looking up.

''What about Olivia?'' Jack asked.

''Not here,'' the Doctor repeated.

''I knew we were in trouble but I didn't realise they wanted to make use of what time they had left,'' Jack muttered, ''When they get back, tell one of 'em to read me the codes!''

''They're not coming back,'' the Doctor said.

''What d'you mean? Where'd they go?''

''Just get on with your work.''

''You sent them home, didn't you?'' Jack realised.

''Yeah,'' the Doctor replied bitterly.

''The Delta Wave... is it ever gonna be ready?'' Jack asked, changing the subject.

''Tell him the truth, Doctor,'' the voice of the Dalek Emperor said, making them both jump and see the Emperor's mutant form projected on the screen, ''There is every possibility that the Delta Wave could be complete, but no possibility of refining it. The Delta Wave must kill every living thing in its path - with no distinction between Human and Dalek. All things will die. By your hand.''

''Doctor, the range of this transmitter covers the entire Earth,'' Jack warned.

''You would destroy Daleks and Humans together,'' the Emperor jeered, ''If I am God, the creator of all things, then what does that make you, Doctor?''

''There are colonies out there,'' the Doctor remarked, ''The Human Race would survive in some shape or form, but you're the only Daleks in existence. The whole universe is in danger if I let you live,'' he turned to Jack, ''Do you see, Jack? That's the decision I've got to make for every living thing. Die as a Human or live as a Dalek,'' he sighed, ''What would you do?''

''You sent them home. They're safe,'' Jack reminded him, ''Keep working.''

''But he will exterminate you!'' the Emperor protested.

''Never doubted him, never will.''

The Doctor grinned at Jack and stood up to face the Emperor, ''Now, you tell me, 'God of all Daleks' - 'cos there's one thing I never worked out. The words 'Bad Wolf', spread across time and space. Everywhere, drawing me in,'' he said, ''How'd you manage that?''

''I did nothing,'' the Emperor said.

''Oh, come on. There's no secrets now, your worship.''

''They are not part of my design,'' the Emperor insisted, ''This is the Truth of God.''

The Doctor looked up fearfully at the words ''Bad Wolf Corporation'' written on the wall.

Olivia trudged down the street towards her home, entering her driveway and stepping up to her door. She pulled her house key from her pocket, and as she did so she took out the TARDIS key, which she looked at sadly. She pocketed the TARDIS key and let herself into her home. She stepped into the living room to see her father sat on the sofa watching television. ''Hey puppet,'' Angus said softly, turning off the TV and hugging his daughter.

''Hey dad,'' Olivia said, ''Where's mum?''

''Working.''

Olivia lent against the wall sadly, Angus immediately saw the something was wrong, ''What's wrong?''

''He sent us back,'' Olivia murmured.

''Who?''

''The Doctor.''

''Hey, sit down,'' Angus said, ''I'll make you some something to drink.''

Olivia flopped down on the sofa, wondering what Jimmy was doing.

''It was always gonna happen,'' Valerie said to Jimmy, who was sat at the table, ''Say what you like about the Doctor, but he knew when you three were way over your heads.''

''But he shouldn't have just...'' Jimmy said.

''He was keeping you safe,'' Valerie insisted.

''I don't wanna be ''safe'','' Jimmy said, ''The Doctor's my friend, mum. Maybe even the best friend I've ever had. But because of what he did we have to just sit here while he gets...''

''Well, you're back home now,'' Valerie insisted, ''You don't need to worry about it now.'' Jimmy just shook his head. His mother would never understand.

''Right, Lynda - you are my eyes and ears,'' Jack said as he prepared Lynda to man the observation deck, ''When the Daleks get in, you can follow it on that screen and report it to me.''

''Understood.''

''They'll detect you but the door's made of Hydra Combination. Should keep them out.''

''Should?'' Lynda asked nervously.

''It's the best I can do,'' he replied, before speaking over the comms, ''How long till the Fleet arrives?''

''They've accelerated,'' Davitch's voice said. Suddenly, several small Dalek saucers flew past while the Dalek flagship passed directly over the satellite.

''This is it, ladies and gentlemen! We are at war!'' Jack announced over the comms, leaving Lynda, who watched as hundreds of individual Daleks poured out of flagship, heading directly for the satellite.

''So he just sent you back?'' Angus asked. Olivia nodded and took a sip of her hot chocolate.

''I suppose he did the right thing,'' Angus continued, ''But I can understand why you're so angry.''

''He was our friend and he's gonna die there,'' Olivia realised, ''And I'm stuck back here.''

''I can see why you see that as a bit of a downgrade,'' Angus joked.

''But the thing is,'' Olivia explained, ''I think I did good out there.''

''What do you mean?'' Angus asked.

''Me, the Doctor and Jimmy, we helped people,'' she said, ''That's why it's so hard to walk away. It's not about fighting aliens and seeing planets and that kind of stuff. The Doctor said to us once, ''It's not about aliens, it's about doing the right thing and keeping people safe''.''

''I'm sure you helped a lot of people,'' Angus said supportively, placing his arm around his daughter.

''Thing is, back at school I had this friend,'' Olivia said, ''She wasn't exactly the nicest of people.''

''Olivia,'' Angus said slowly, ''You're a great kid. You got caught up with a bad group of friends, so what? Once you left them you showed you good you are.''

''Thanks, dad,'' Olivia said, taking another sip of her hot chocolate.

Jimmy, meanwhile, was sat on the stairs of the ground floor of his estate. He shook his head as his mind replayed the TARDIS taking him and Olivia home. He stood up and walked out of the block, glancing at the graffiti around the estate, only just noticing something particularly odd. ''Bad Wolf'' was written practically everywhere. Jimmy quickly pulled out his phone and called Olivia.

''Hey Jimmy,'' Olivia said.

''Liv, you've got to come and see this!'' Jimmy exclaimed.

''What is it?''

''Just come down to my estate, quick as you can,'' Jimmy insisted, hanging up.

''Stand your ground, everyone,'' Jack said over the comms as everyone prepared for battle, ''Follow my commands. And good luck.''

''You were right! They're forcing the airlock on 494,'' Lynda noted over the comms as the whole satellite shook violently, almost throwing the busy Doctor off balance.

''Oh my God!'' Olivia screamed as she ran up to Jimmy's block, seeing ''Bad Wolf'' graffiti everywhere, ''That's not possible.''

''Well, it clearly is,'' Jimmy said.

''What are we gonna do?''

''I dunno,'' Jimmy admitted, ''I think this is telling us we need to get back to the Doctor?''

''But how?'' Olivia asked. Jimmy shrugged his shoulders.

''Hold on,'' Olivia said, ''Remember all that stuff with Margaret? How the 'heart of the TARDIS' opened up and granted Margaret her wish?'' Jimmy nodded, ''Maybe we can make it do the same.''

''But how?'' Jimmy wondered, ''How are we gonna get that panel to open?''

''There's one thing we can try,'' Olivia said, picking up her phone and calling her father, ''Dad, we need you. Bring your car and a chain.''

Jack watched the footage as Daleks glided down the corridors, ''Okay - activate internal lasers. Slice 'em up,'' he ordered over the comms, watching the floor manager place her hand on the touch-pad. However, a bleeping sound was heard.

''Defences have gone offline,'' Lynda reported, ''The Dalek's have overridden the lock.''

The floor manager, Ruby, Alex and a few other volunteers took their positions, pointing guns at the advancing Daleks. They all opened fire, but this had absolutely no effect, with the bullets melting away before they even touched the Daleks.

''You lied to me!'' the floor manager raged over the comms, ''The bullets don't work!'' She continued firing until a Dalek shot her dead. Ruby and Alex, realising what was about to happen, glanced at each other and stopped firing, instead taking each other's hand. Jack watched as the two lovers, and several other volunteers were blasted down by the Daleks.

Jimmy and Olivia watched as Angus started the engine of his car, a chain connected to the panel above the heart of the TARDIS. Angus slammed his foot down, forcing to engine to use all it's power, but to no avail. As smoke poured from Angus's car, the chain snapped.

''Fuck's sake!'' Jimmy raged, running his hand's through his hair.

''Advance guard have made it to 495,'' Lynda reported.

''Jack, how're we doing?'' the Doctor asked.

''495 should be good,'' Jack said remarked confidently, ''I like 495.'' He watched the footage as three Daleks arrive on floor 495 to be confronted with the Anne Droid.

''Identify yourself!'' one ordered.

''You are the weakest link. Goodbye!'' the Anne Droid replied, firing it's transmat beam and sending all three Daleks back to their ship.

''Yes!'' Jack cheered.

A fourth Dalek emerged, ''You are the weakest link-'' the Anne Droid began, but this Dalek was quicker. It fired it's own weapon, blasting the Anne Droid's head off.

''Proceed to next level,'' the Dalek said as it was joined by several others.

''They're flying up the ventilation shafts!'' Lynda reported, ''No... wait a minute... oh, my God! Why're they doing that? They're going down!''

Jack paused in shock as he realised what the Daleks were about to do. Lynda shut off the feed from floor 0 as the screams of people being killed became unbearable, ''Floor Zero,'' she sobbed, ''They killed them all.''

''Jimmy, what are we gonna do?'' Olivia asked as the two sat in the TARDIS. They had no way of getting back to the Doctor.

''I don't know,'' he admitted.

''He can't die on his own,'' Olivia said.

''I know,'' Jimmy said, ''But there's nothing. No way of taking control of the TARDIS. We're stuck here.''

''Lynda! What's happening on Earth?'' the Doctor called.

''The Fleet's descending,'' Lynda breathed, ''They're bombing whole continents. Europa... Pacifica... the New American Alliance... Australasia's just... gone.''

''Floor 499,'' Jack said to the remaining volunteers, ''We're the last defence. The bullets should work if you concentrate them on the Dalek's eyestalk. I've got the forcefield at maximum so the Dalek fire part should be at its weakest.''

''I'm only here 'cos of you,'' Davitch muttered to the female programmer, ''I joined the Programme because... you were on it.''

''Am I supposed to say, when this is all over and if we're still alive, maybe we could go for a drink?'' the female programmer asked flirtatiously.

''That'd be nice.''

''Yeah, well, tough.'' She winked at him as the two readied their guns.

''Maybe we should just leave it,'' Olivia said as she and Jimmy stepped out of the TARDIS, seemingly for the last time.

''Maybe,'' Jimmy said, ''If only we had something stronger than your dad's car,'' he wished, before seeing something coming up in the road, ''something like that.'' A large truck pulled up beside them. Jimmy looked in the cab to see who was driving, and was greeted by his father. Joshua jumped out and hug his son.

''Your mum called,'' he said, ''Said she saw you two outside trying to pull something out of that blue box.''

''Where'd you get that?'' Jimmy asked.

''I'm a builder!'' Joshua reminded him, ''Now let's get to work!''
