Hello! I'm really sorry for making you all wait. Hope you enjoy this FINAL chapter! Enjoy!
3 days passed since the group returned to Camelot. Gwen was surprised and hurt to learn that Merlin had married and had a child in secret for years without telling her at all but forgave him after understanding that it was all for their family's safety. But of course when it came to Morgana, things were a little more complicated.
From what Gwen could understand, Morgause had spelled Morgana, corrupting her and putting wicked thoughts into her head. Merlin and Layla had apparently cured her but Gwen decided to keep an eye out. Morgana had caused a lot of trouble for the kingdom and as it's queen she will ensure that Morgana really is no longer a threat before she lets her out of the castle's sights. Deep in thought, she had not realized that Beth had spilled the beans about her pregnancy and much to the delight of her oh-sweet husband, he insisted on holding a celebration the next week causing the nervous wife to smile awkwardly, praying that everything would go well.
On the day of the planned celebration of his wife's pregnancy, Arthur was roaming the walls in the mid-afternoon, deep in thought about the speech he will give in a mere hour's time for the assembly he arranged until he hears a strange noise...almost like a thumping and a creaking? He turns and realizes it's Morgana's room but where was her assigned guard?
Determined to get to the bottom of this, he opens the door fiercely causing a shrill scream to greet him along with a familiar string of crude cursing to reach his ears, "Arthur! Get the hell out!"
The blonde king loses his footing and falls back against the closed door, ashamed and covered his face, appalled while Morgana scrambled off of her partner in haste.
"Gwaine! You are supposed to be watching over my sister you arse! Not doing things like that with her!"
The rugged knight smirked, turning to give the pale-skinned woman that lay with him an affectionate kiss on the cheek as Arthur angrily stands back up again.
"Well technically speaking, with her on top of me just now, I really did have an ample time watching her you know."
Morgana smacks his arm playfully while Arthur groaned in disdain but things get really awkward when Gwen comes into the room in a rush causing Arthur's sister to yank on her sheets to cover her naked voluptuous figure.
"What is going on in here? I heard Arthur shouting and-"
Gwen stops short, finally noticing the half naked couple in the bed.
"-never mind..."
"What never mind?! This is outrageous!"
Morgana scowled just about ready to give Arthur a piece of her mind until Merlin casually walks in but unlike the other two, he was quick to notice the situation and turned to the disturbed royals.
"Arthur, Gwen are you a couple of peeping toms?" he asks them point-blank. Merlin's tone was so serious that the couple blushed furiously hearing his remark as they tried to defend themselves.
"Merlin! Of course not! It was an accident!"
The manservant chuckled in amusement, folding his arms, "Well it seems like the two of you has fallen into some sort of habit of stepping into scandalous situations involving your older sisters Arthur."
Gwen blushed heavily immediately, Arthur was a little slow to catch on until Merlin reminded him of the waterfall incident causing the older blonde to flush.
"I didn't mean to watch!"
"Oh for fuck's sake! All of you get out!" screamed an irate reformed witch causing the half naked man beside her to laugh.
Things are going to be a hell of a lot more fun now!
He laughed even louder seeing Morgana chuck her wonderfully soft pillows at her friends, screaming at them to give her privacy.
"People of Calmelot."
The citizens of the kingdom looked up to see King Arthur and Queen Gwen standing on the balcony, addressing them as they initiate the start of the assembly. They listened attentively and also in awe as their king gives his speech, starting with how proud he is how much the kingdom has changed for the better; the equality and the better treatment of the lower classes are now as compared to how things were under his father's rule. He went on to say that throughout his years as his father's son, he had tried to oppose his father whenever he had disagreed with many judgements of his and admitted that this was because often he found his father's ways to be cruel and unjust at times.
But what really surprised them all was when Arthur revealed that he had discovered that his manservant had been practicing magic to aid him and protect him since their first encounter with each other. The blonde kings also informs everyone that Morgana had been cured of the dark magic that corrupted her by Merlin and confidently praises his sister for complying with his demands; showing remorse as she surrendered willingly in order to show that she is in fact a different person. Arthur then makes it clear that Merlin and Morgana will not be prosecuted for abilities that they could not help be born with as he judges the two of them on their character and actions and not for the powers they wield.
"A wise young man once told me that magic is like any other weapon. It can be used to protect your loved ones or slaughter lives like a savage beast. Despite that, the key difference of magic and a normal weapon is that some people are just born with it and should not be prosecuted merely because of who they are. I will continue to trial the guilty that are brought before me based on the evidence and the testimony of the accused however the use of magic or being born with it or even ever practicing the craft once in his or her life will no longer sway the verdict immediately to guilty anymore. I will continue to rule this land fairly and ensure the judgements I give are true and just. I want to be the king that all of you can be proud of and openly welcomes humans of all kinds into my kingdom."
Arthur ended his speech there and Gwen nervously squeezed his hand as the people were silent for a long while until the knights applauded first and soon slowly one by one, everyone was cheering. Gwen cried, joyous over the reaction and Arthur squeezed his wife's arm before introducing the newest members of his court.
"Please a round of applause for my new Court Warlock and Court Advisor; husband and wife, my best friend and my older half-sister, Merlin and Layla Emrys!"
Everyone clapped, awestruck by seeing Merlin looking rather handsome in clothing fit for a royal with a stunning wife by his side whom which apparently was Arthur's other sister that the king failed to mention however that did not deter them in the least and the citizens continued to cheer. The couples stayed by each other's side, until the assembly was over, smiling wider than they have ever had.
Later that night, the biggest celebration Camelot has ever had finally took place. Outside on the yard, the villagers were singing, dancing and drinking as they toasted to Camelot's change of laws and similarly in the castle, you could see the nobles cheerful and merry as they interacted with one another. Arthur and Gwen were surprised by the positive reaction from the lift of the magic laws but surmised that this was probably because Uther ruled the kingdom with an iron fist and had usually blamed anything and everything on magic being the cause. Now that the ban was lifted, magic users no longer need to fear Camelot and were welcome and the villagers won't have to worry about being harshly decapitated for the smallest thing.
"Myrridin!"
The small mini-Merlin laughed as he ran past the royal couple being chased by Leon's daughter Lottie. Arthur laughed seeing Mordred and Beth together of all people, chasing after the children in the dance hall.
"Pardon him, there wasn't any children his age at Ealdor. He is just thrilled to finally make a friend his size."
Gwen smiles at Layla who approached them looking stunning in her gown. It was a deep, rose red in colour that gave stark contrast to the witch's brilliant skin tone. It was a first for Arthur saw her in such a eye-catching colour that he found it nice and had to admit that his eldest sister was in fact incredibly beautiful; seeing her completely without a hood covering half her face and a cloak that shielded her body. Gwen thought so too, smiling a little wider at her sister-in-law.
"No worries. He really does look like Merlin though, I must say!"
"Oh yes and inherited his mischief streak."
Arthur rolled his eyes and speaks, not giving a chance for his wife to respond, "Best of luck to you then."
"Don't be rude Arthur, Merlin is a fine and rather charming young man as long as you're respectful to him and loved ones." says a familiar voice and the blonde turns to see his other sister coming toward them with a seemingly tipsy Gwaine in tow.
"Gwaine, you're my sister's guard. You are not supposed to be drinking you imbecile."
"I wasn't drinking any ale mate! But I had a mighty fine drink between Gana's-"
"-shush Gwaine, you're really drunk. You were hallucinating whatever you thought happened." Morgana cuts in quickly, not letting Gwaine finish.
"But G-gana-! Why-"
"Shush!"
However Arthur, usually oblivious had actually noticed the flush in Morgana's cheeks and put two and two together but before he could call his knight on it, Gwaine swung an arm around his shoulder.
"Now now, it's a party! Live a little mate!"
Merlin chuckles at the alcoholic's words catching the attention of the group before coming up behind his wife and kissing her neck affectionately causing Layla to giggle girlishly. Morgana smirked seeing the two and noted how Merlin rested his hand on his wife's stomach.
"How many children do you two plan to have?" the former dark witch asks, curious as she is already aware that Layla is carrying twins.
Merlin grinned as he answered, no hesitation in the least, "Well, I always wanted a big family actually."
"Really?"
Merlin blinked, surprised by the brunette's expression, "Do you not want to-?"
"I do! I do!"
The warlock frowns, confused and everyone watches as Layla shyly confesses to her husband that she always wanted a big family but had been nervous to bring it up. Merlin resists the urge to laugh at her adorableness opting to kiss her instead.
"This is a pretty happy ending, wouldn't you say?" Gwen asks, aloud.
Arthur scoffs, "I wonder how long you would have kept all of this from me if you haven't interfered with Kara from the beginning."
The big-eared former manservant shrugs nonchalantly, "That doesn't matter as long as we have each other."
Layla tilts her head to peck his lips, "Damn right."
"Well if this all continued, I would probably still be planning a war." Morgana adds on thoughtfully.
"Peace is a much more preferred option and less work compared to fighting a bloody ruthless war!"
Arthur rolls his eyes at Gwaine's words before looking back at Merlin and Layla who seemed just so in love as they looked into each other's eyes. He silently wondered if Gwen and himself looked like that too. But on thing was for sure, Arthur will fight for Merlin to keep smiling just like that,
Merlin, more than anybody truly deserved to be happy after everything he has been put through.
Hope you liked the ending! :)
