The hallway was mercifully vacant as the trio emerged from the elevator. They quietly walked down the hallway, staying silent. The tension in the air was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Finally they stopped in front of the door to Raven's room. Starfire frowned as she read the new sign on the door:
"Raven and Changeling"
She glared at the gray sorceress. "You move the fast."
Raven ignored the remark as she opened the door using the palm reader. They entered the room and door slid shut. Starfire snorted as she looked at the bed they shared. She then turned to Raven.
"Why are you stealing him from me? Can you not find another man to satiate your desires?"
Raven crossed her arms.
"I never accused you of stealing Gar from me."
"That is because you lost him by your own hand."
"So did you!" Raven thundered back.
"You blame me? I have done nothing wrong!"
"What you did wrong has already been pointed out, but you're too pig headed to accept it."
Starfire balled her fists. "I have already explained! I need an heir!"
"And Kreesad has provided that. You have another husband, and we both know that he's your consort, not Gar. Why do you insist on keeping him!?"
"Because he is mine!"
"I'm not your property, Star; why is that so hard to understand?"
The Empress pointed angrily at Raven. "She has put these ideas into your mind! She has fed you endless lies! She has told you that I don't love you, that I am ashamed of you and that I love Kreesad more than I love you! She is a deceiver who wants to steal you from me, your rightful spouse."
In a deadpan the changeling replied. "You're wrong … she didn't put those ideas in my head … you did."
Starfire's jaw trembled. "You choose this unfaithful harlot over me? Have you forgotten how she used to treat you, how she cheated on you?"
Again, in a deadpan, he responded. "No. I will never forget that. But she isn't that person anymore."
"You are the fool!"
"No, he's not a fool. And he's right, I'm not that person anymore … but you are."
A loud scream erupted from the Tamaranian's lips as she lunged towards Raven, tackling her and slamming her back into the floor.
"How dare you! You nothing more than a vile demoness!" She screamed as she pummeled Raven with her fists as she sat on her. The gray Titan raised a shield over her face to protect herself as she struck back. Her blows seemed to have no effect on the Tamaranian who continued to strike Raven's shield.
"Stop!" The changeling shouted.
The brawl continued and Raven's shield began to crack.
"Stop, you're going to hurt her!" Gar shouted as he tried to restrain his former wife. Starfire swatted him away and he slammed into a wall, slumping to the floor as he held his head and groaned in pain. Starfire resumed pummeling Raven's dark energy until finally the shield shattered and Raven was defenseless. Sitting on top of Raven's prone figure, Starfire punched her in the face, breaking her nose. Raven shrieked in pain.
Starfire drew back her arm, preparing a coupe d'grace. A starbolt formed around her fist, and Raven became wide eyed.
"Starfire, please, don't."
Raven raised her arms in a futile protective gesture and braced herself for what might be a fatal blow. Starfire's eyes glowed green as she was consumed by the Tamaranian blood lust.
Just as she was prepared to deliver the life ending strike she felt an enormous blow to her head and was toppled over, rolling over several times before stopping. She groaned as she recovered and became wide eyed herself, for standing between her and Raven was none other than The Beast. A trickle of orange blood trickled from Starfire's mouth, her face was screwed with anger.
"Why does he only ever appear for her? He has never appeared to protect me!"
The Beast slowly opened its mouth. With great effort it slowly enunciated its reply.
"You do not need my protection."
"I am your wife."
"Not anymore. Raven is my now my mate and partner."
Starfire watched with jaundiced eyes as The Beast tended to Raven, helping her back onto her feet. She spat out some blood.
"Are you well, my mistress?"
Raven kissed The Beast's face. "I'll live. Thank you. I can always count on you."
"Why do you protect her?"
The green leviathan turned to Starfire. "I love her. And she is pregnant."
Starfire scowled. "You reject me because I carry another man's child, but she does the same and you embrace her?"
The Beast morphed back into his human form.
"It's mine." He replied in breathless voice.
Starfire fell to her knees and began to weep. "Why do you believe that I do not love you?"
"You didn't give me a chance … we could have had another child. STAR Labs could have helped us."
The Empress shook her head. "You do not understand what was at stake."
"What was at stake?" Raven asked.
Starfire approached Raven and examined her beaten face. "What have I done? You are my dear friend, how could I have done this to you?"
"Forget it, after a healing trance I'll be good as new … Starfire, are you saying that politics were behind your actions?"
She nodded her affirmation, then turned to Garfield, and began to weep. "Forgive me, my beloved. Please believe me when I say that you are my only true love. I do not love Kreesad."
"You mean you were forced to marry him and have a kid with him?"
With tears flowing down her face she nodded.
"How? Why? And why is this the first time I'm hearing of this?"
"I wished to spare you the humiliation, but now I see that I have failed. As for why, is the complicated."
Raven placed a hand on her shoulder. "Perhaps you should start at the beginning."
Starfire nodded. "Yes, that would be the appropriate … after Gharfeelder was born many opposed my mandate, because of his illegitimate birth. It almost cost me the crown. I fought back and believed that I had won. We also defeated the Gordanians and my rule became stronger. I believed that was the best time to bring Garfield to Tamaran. We were lovers and that was once again a source of scandal and my rule weakened. "
"So I proposed and we were married, I had hoped that my people would accept my husband and son ..."
She paused.
"But I was wrong. They were never accepted."
She sighed. "But there were more problems."
"You mean the Pro Citadel movement? I thought you had that under control." Gar remarked.
"Pro Citadel movement?" Raven asked.
"There were those on Tamaran who wished to form an alliance with the Citadel, the Gordanians and the Psions. They wanted to embark on a war of conquest in the quadrant, as the Green Lantern Corps has been occupied with bigger issues and would not be able to intervene."
She looked at Raven "Earth was a target."
"That would have been devastating."
"For everyone. As Garfield mentioned, we tried to suppress the movement, and we believed that we were victorious … but we were wrong. They gained followers and they murdered my son."
Gar gasped. "Star, why didn't you tell me?"
She sniffled. "You were their next target and we were quickly losing support. I thought of abdicating and fleeing, but if I did that countless worlds would have suffered in the war. That was when Kreesad appeared."
Raven gasped. "In exchange for your hand and him siring your heir he would support you?"
Starfire nodded. "Yes, the movement was destroyed and countless worlds were saved. Garfield, forgive me for betraying you, I had no choice."
The changeling embraced her. "I forgive you."
A brief silence followed, until Raven broke it.
"Why are you here now?"
"I was not expecting Garfield to abandon me, but …" she looked at him "your sudden departure compromised my position, it made me look weak and now the remnant of the alliance movement is gaining strength. I need you to return. Also … I miss you, I need you. I understand why you left and I cannot justify my actions."
"It's not so simple now." Raven remarked.
"No, it is not."
"Starfire, we don't want a war to break out. Even the Justice League will have a hard time defending Earth against that alliance … but … we're going to have a baby. I also love Gar, how can I be expected to give him up?"
Starfire sat, looking lost in thought.
"We will have to share him." She finally blurted.
"Forgive me; but I'm not exactly thrilled with that idea."
"Neither am I. But I do not see any other option, you will both need to return with me to Tamaran."
"What? And be co-wives?"
"I can perform the ceremony right now. You will join us in our plural marriage."
Raven frowned upon hearing those words. Suddenly her eyes widened.
"Does that mean that Kreesad will be my husband?"
"I am afraid that is the case."
"I refuse to have any contact with him."
"He can legally demand that his conjugal rights be fulfilled."
"It's bad enough having to share Gar with you. But I won't sleep with Kreesad. And that's final."
The changeling had quietly watched the two women in his life discuss the awkward future facing them. He cleared his throat. "And I won't sleep with Star."
A hurt expression appeared on the Tamaranian's face.
"I'm sorry Star, but I can't, I just can't. It would be wrong. Look … we'll go with you to Tamaran and stay there until you get things under control, you know, to keep up appearances. But once you're back in charge you gotta divorce us and let us go home."
"Agreed." She replied in a crestfallen tone. "It will not be easy, not having you at my side at night, as I do not like sleeping with Kreesad … Raven, you will need to take a public oath of loyalty to me when we return to Tamaran. I will fabricate a story for Garfield's sudden departure to Earth. If you are ready, I will now proceed to marry Raven into our union."
"We would also like to have a local ceremony." Raven added. "To keep it official on Earth."
Starfire nodded. "Agreed, but we must hurry back to Tamaran."
She asked Raven for a blank scroll, which of course she had in her room. She wrote in it, using Tamaranian characters. When she was done she indicated where Raven was supposed to sign. After it was signed, Starfire and Gar signed as witnesses. She then rolled up the scroll.
"It is done. Now we shall prepare for your Earthly ceremony."

A few hours later ...
The common room was abuzz with activity. Kid Flash arranged and rearranged the chairs repeatedly at lightning speed until he was pleased with the layout. Wonder Girl flew overhead, hanging decorations from the walls and ceiling. Red Robin and Superboy were busy setting up a podium where the civil ceremony would take place while Cyborg was busy setting the cake and snacks for the reception.
"Three hours notice? Who gets married with three hours notice?" The tin man complained as he put the finishing touches on the cake. "Aw man, I'm never gonna get all this food ready on time."
The guests, who were from the greater super hero community, had already begun to arrive. The front rows were reserved for the Justice League, the Avengers, the X-Men and the Doom Patrol. The skies above Jump were swarming with flying superheroes and customized jets, which were scrambling to find a place to land on Titans Island. Heather O'Neil was in a helicopter, buzzing around the island to get a good view, and was chased away by a police chopper every she got too close to the island.
Raven watched the guests assemble, hidden behind a curtain, with her groom standing next to her.
"I can't believe so many showed up on such short notice. I figured only a handful would make it."
"Chrome Dome has a lot of clout. Hey look! Supeman, Supergirl and Powergirl made it."
"Why do they call them 'girls'? They're as old as we are."
He ignored her remark, but then pointed angrily into the arriving throng. "I don't remember him being invited."
Nightwing, with Blackfire next to him, was in the middle of the arriving throng.
Raven sighed. "It was a blanket invitation to the entire superhero community. And as much as we don't like him, he is a superhero."
"She isn't a super hero."
"She's his date." Raven replied morosely.
"I don't care, I'm throwing them out, both of them."
"You might need some help. Blackfire packs a wallop."
"I'll get the super clan to help me. It's butt kicking time."
Raven placed a hand on his shoulder. "He isn't worth it. It's our day, let's not let him ruin it with a scene."
He growled his displeasure. "I suppose you're right … whoa! … Star's gonna talk with them. Oh Crap!"

The Empress saw her sister and her ex from across the room and a scowl formed across her face. Levitating one foot above the floor she glided across the room, zig zagging between guests, until she landed in front of her sister. Blackfire sported one of her insincere grins.
"Sister! It's so good to see you!"
Starfire's face betrayed no expression. "Unfortunately, I cannot say the same … sister."
Grayson cleared his throat. "Hi Star, it's been a while."
"It has, my adulterous ex husband. I see you have chosen a proper date for yourself. Also, I will remind you that I am the Empress and have not given you permission to address me that way. You will address me as 'Your Majesty'"
"Now don't be like that, little sister" Blackfire interrupted in a snarky voice. "Nightwing regrets everything he did."
"I'm sure he does."
Blackfire hooked her arm into his. "Isn't this wonderful? Your husband, your adulterous husband, is taking Raven, an adultress, as his second wife."
Starfire balled a fist but kept her cool. "That is correct."
"And we have good news of our own, little sister. Tell her, Dick."
Starfire felt the indignation swell within her. He had concealed his true identity from her for years, yet revealed to Blackfire after just a few days. She calmed herself.
"Star …"
She silenced him with a glare.
"Your Majesty ..." he corrected himself. "Blackie and I are gonna get married."
Starfire did everything she could to keep her face from falling. She held her composure together before replying in her monotone.
"I hope you are happy together. I am afraid I won't be able to attend your wedding as I must return immediately to Tamaran."
"We could marry at home in the palace, little sis. Then you could be there."
"You exile still stands. If you return to Tamaran and are caught you will be tried for treason. The penalty is death … for you and your groom."
"A Las Vegas wedding it is then." Nightwing remarked in a cocky tone.
"You should take your seats, in the back row. The ceremony is about to begin,"
-( - )-
The ceremony was short and simple. Raven and Gar exchanged simple vows of fidelity and permanence and the judge asked each if they took each other in marriage. Raven wore her white leotard and cape while Gar wore his old tux. The assembly broke into cheers and applause when they sealed their vows with a kiss.
Nightwing stared at the bride and groom while Blackfire had a smirk on her face.
Kid Flash, with Wally West's help, converted the improvised chapel into a reception room. Within seconds the tables were in place and the plates, napkins and silverware were set. People took their places while the newlyweds cut the cake. Cyborg, with Kid Flash's help, quickly served everyone their food and drinks.
After the meal the guests took turns congratulating the Logans. Wonder Woman gave them a good luck amulet. Superman gave them a 50 ct diamond he made with his own two hands. Batman gave them a 7 figure check, and so on. It wasn't until the end that Nightwing and Blackfire approached. Grayson spoke first.
"I just want to tell you that I'm happy for you. I'm really glad this day finally happened. And I'm sorry that ..."
Raven covered his mouth in dark energy.
"Dude, let's just leave the past in the past. And thanks." Gar replied.
"You're a bigger man than I am." Dick replied before stepping back.
Blackfire stepped forward. "Better late than never, right?"
"You could say that." Raven replied in a dry monotone.
"And you lovebirds are moving to Tamaran."
"Also correct."
Blackfire turned to walk away. After a few steps she turned around. Her face now looked dead serious.
"Raven, Garfield; a word of advice: watch your backs on Tamaran."

For those who complained about previous chapters' brevity, this one was a bit longer.
Also, I'm surprised that no one caught the joke built around the divorce lawyers names: Dewey Cheatham and Howe → Do we cheat 'em and how.
I stole that one from the now defunct radio show "Car Talk"
