Chapter 35
*1 week later*
I woke up by a knock on the door. I unwrap myself from Tobias' embrace, I grab a pair sweats and answer the door. When I open the door I see Hana, I smile lightly at her.
"Oh. I hope I didn't wake you up."
"It's fine, probably a good thing I woke up." I say. "Tris, who's at the door?" Tobias asks walking down stairs. When he comes down stair he finally sees Hana.
"Good morning Hana."
"So, I've come to talk to you about the baby. I want to adopt the baby, well it's more we would like to adopt the child. The man that was my plus one to your wedding. He and I are dating."
"Congratulations." Before I say anything, there's another knock at the door. Tobias gets up to get it, when he opens the door he mouths something and stands there still as a statue. "Who's at the door?" He doesn't saying anything just opens the door to let the person in. Evelyn.
"Hello Tobias, Tris." She says standing there awkwardly.
"Hi," I say quietly. "Come sit down. Would you like anything to drink? Hana?"
"Water please." Hana replies, I look to Evelyn. "Umm yes please." Tobias is slowly walking to the kitchen with me. Hana and Evelyn sit on the couch awkwardly. I grab two four glasses out of the cupboard. I get the ice tray out of the freezer and the filtered water out of the fridge. Tobias help me carry the drinks out.
"So Tobias, Tris have you made your decision?" Evelyn asks. Her clothes cover up her belly, even when she's sitting down, her belly isn't big.
"We decide that we're not ready for that responsibility yet." Evelyn's face drops a little bit. "We asked our friend," gesturing to Hana, "if she would adopt the child. The child would still be in Dauntless, we could be his/her Godparents. We would still be involved in the child's life, just not fully responsible for the child." He finishes. Evelyn looks down and moves her thumbs around in circles around each other. She stays silent for a while.
"Umm… I guess so. At least now I know that the child will have a home. First, I need to know more about you." Evelyn says hesitantly.
"Okay…" Hana replies.
"Umm… how'd you meet my son?"
"He's my son's best friend, technically cousin in law." Tobias and I leave the room and allow them to talk. We go to the bedroom. I log on to my computer and I have and email from Erudite.
REMINDER: Next Ambassador meeting at Dauntless.
Crap. That's Wednesday and it's Monday. I have to set up the conference room, make reservations for lunch. And on top of that type up an Update Report for Dauntless. Okay I got this. For lunch I'll just order a buffet. The conference room shouldn't be too hard I just have to make sure it's clean. Now I have to type a report. Ugh!
I hear pounding on the door down stairs. I look to Tobias to get it. He doesn't budge. Before I even get to the door it opens.
"Party at my house! Wear layers!" Uriah exclaims. "Hi mom!" Then he leaves.
"That's your son?" Evelyn asks Hana.
"My youngest son. My oldest son, is Four's best friend." Evelyn looks down and asks, "Where's their father?" Hana tenses up a little bit.
"Evelyn, their father died before Uriah was born. Uriah doesn't know who his father is and Zeke was too young to remember. Their father was Natalie Prior's brother, Tris' uncle." Tobias steps in, as he comes down the stairs.
"I'm sorry for your loss." Evelyn says with a strained voice. Then she gets up, Hana stands too. "It was nice to meet you, I better get going. I'm glad s/he has a mother now." With that she leaves.
"Thank you, Four for telling her about Blaze."
Tobias POV
"Thank you, Four for telling her about Blaze." Hana says. I go over and give her a hug. When Evelyn said "Sorry for your loss." I was debating if she really meant it. Uriah and Zeke's father actually died, my mother didn't die yet I still grew up with her thinking she did.
"I have to go, I'm meeting up with Jared." I smile at her. She goes over and hugs Tris then leaves.
"Are you okay?" I nod my head. "You know it's okay not to be okay." Tris says. She walks over to me and wraps her small arm around my waist. I slowly wrap my arms around her shoulders. She rest her head on my chest, my chin rests on hers.
All of a sudden, the door swings open.
"Tris!" Somebody yells, no doubt Christina. Once she fully walk in she looks at us. "Oh. Am I interrupting something?" Tris slowly peels away from me and turns around. When she turns around to Christina I wrap my arms around her and put my chin on her head.
"Yes Christina?" Tris questions.
"You, me. Shopping!"
"No. We bought a bunch of clothes before my wedding I can where some of those."
"No. I need to buy you a new outfit, and we need girl time."
"Fine come back after lunch, then we can go shopping. Uriah's party does start till seven o'clock."
"Ugh! That's so far away." Christina say walking out the door and for once closing it. As Christina shuts the door someone opens the door. Oh. My. Gosh. Can we get any alone time? Natalie walks in.
"Tris, do you want to go with me to find an apartment?"
"Um. I guess. First we can go to my office I have a list of apartments." I have an idea!
"Natalie?" I ask. "We could get you an apartment next to Hana's, then you two could be near each other." Tris looks up at me, her eye say that's a great idea.
"Does that sound good?" Tris asks.
"Yes. Thank you so much Four." We go down to Hana's hallway. There's an open apartment across the hallway from Hana. We walk in it, its layout is almost exactly like ours, but there's no furniture. I'll work on that. Tris and Natalie go to look at furniture, maybe even buy some. While they are walking down there, I called the furniture store and tell them to I'll pay for whatever they buy. Now, I have to prepare for Uriah's party.
AN: Yay! I didn't make you guys wait for an update :) Tell me what you think! …And ideas for Candor or Dauntless.
