There we go! I finally got the chapter finished. As I said in the apology chapter I'm really sorry about the wait, but I just had a crap ton of projects that I got at the same time. So I had almost no time to write at school, and by the time I got home I just wanted to relax. But now I am done those, and I should be able to pick up the pace again on my writing. I want to start doing at least one hour a night, and since I can finish a chapter in 2 hours, we should be pretty much back to a chapter every other day. Also someone asked about Marvin, it wasn't explained in the chapter, but he went with Ozpin for a bit.
No one liked it, but after a few hours of searching; they had no choice. The incident with the mysterious man from quadrant six-four and the wyvern had both disappeared. Team RWBY was at a loss. There was no way that the man could have killed the wyvern, and what reason could it have to take him? It seemed that there wasn't going to be much of an explanation. Even as they were searching, it seemed impossible to find them. Although that could have been because of the police's arrival. When they heard the sirens in the distance, their reaction was immediate. Old habits die hard, and in times like this, that can saved their lives.
They took off deeper into the woods, which none of them knew the name of anymore. Emerald forest was pretty big, but it didn't stretch nearly this far out. Yang quickly grabbed scruff and started running. By this point it was less grabbing and more dragging, but it had the same effect. It was only moments after the sirens were heard that the entire group was on their feet and running. It seemed to Ruby to be nothing more than an endless cycle. The police would arrive, they would run, and right when they finally started to get comfortable, the cycle would restart all over again. By now, it was just daily routine.
That nearly stopped her in her tracks. Just daily routine? When did her mindset reach the point where running away from the police for committing countless murders was considered normal? But now wasn't the time, Ruby shook her head and continued to run. It was getting dark by the time they finally came to a solid rest, and each of them flopped onto the ground inside of the cave that they had found. None of them bothered to keep watch anymore. Since Scruff had become big enough, he had learned to bark whenever someone else was coming towards them. Ruby's eyes were slowly drooping, almost falling asleep. But Blake scooted over to her and gave her a small nudge.
"Hey, you alright?" Ruby was startled, but quickly regained herself.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little worried is all." Blake nodded, choosing not to say anything for a while. But eventually, she made a decision and turned to Ruby again. The words that left her mouth were barely audible, but Ruby heard them clearly.
"I missed you Ruby." The words were simply, but they nearly made Ruby break down. She flung herself into Blake's arms and started sobbing.
"I messed up everything didn't I? If it weren't for me all of you could have just stayed at beacon, and never even had to deal with me!" Blake comforted her, seeing that Yang and Weiss had already fallen into a deep slumber.
"Shhh, shhh. I don't want you to ever think anything like that again, ok? We all love you Ruby, if you weren't worth it, we never would have done all the things that we've done. But you are worth it, and no one here regrets any decision they've made." The two of them were silent from that point on, instead choosing to find comfort in each other's embrace. When morning finally arrived, Ruby was the first one awake. By the time any of the others had woken up, she had finished restocking their water supplies and packing up everything they needed.
"Uhh Ruby?"
"Mmhhmm?"
"Going a little overboard this morning don't you think?" Ruby grinned and shook her head quickly.
"I have a plan, for us to be away from all of this. I'm tired of making you guys suffer so that I can be alright, but I'm also tired of not being with you guys. So I have a plan."
"Care to fill us in on what it is?" Ruby grinned again, repeating her action. Yang and Blake made their way to the entrance quickly, but Weiss stayed behind for a few more minutes.
'She wants to be with me?' The day continued without event, only endless wandering and the occasional grimm. But the entire time, Ruby had a look of determination on her face that made none of the others question where they were going. Each day, and each night, this was the way that they travelled, only sleeping for a few hours at a time. Before any of them knew it, it had been a week since the night in the cave. On this particular day more than ever before, Ruby seemed prominent on pressing forward without rest. Although unhappy about it, the others followed grudgingly.
What they hadn't noticed, is that the numbers of trees around them had gradually diminished, and there was now only a few trees in the area. As they came to the top of a hill, all of them stood and gasped. Below them, was a beautiful town, surrounded by a lake on one side and a red glow on the other. The effect that was created was absolutely breathtaking. Renewed with vigor, each of them dashed towards the town, Scruff bounding along happily. It was nearly nightfall before they reached the town, but none of them cared. It just felt good to be in civilization. Putting forth a great effort to not be recognized, the four of them checked into a small inn. The room was small, but still much more comfortable than a cave floor.
Morning arrived all too quickly, only allowing them an hour before the familiar sounds of sirens and helicopters could be heard. Yang groaned, but sat up and got dressed quickly. The less time spent getting ready, the better. Blake glanced out the window, and doubled her efforts. It wasn't long before all of them had fully packed and were ready to move. Checking around her to make sure no one was looking, Ruby hopped out the window, landing with a gentle thud. As the others landed, they started dashing after Ruby, who was already heading towards the faint red glow.
"HALT!" None of them even slowed for a moment, focusing completely on running faster and faster to keep up with Ruby. Suddenly, she stopped. As she ran Ruby simply stopped running, and turned around. What she saw was a force that was unlike any other she had ever seen. It seemed as if the entire military was there, lined with tanks and hunters and any other deadly weapon they could think of. At least three hundred people had a weapon, ready to fire at a moments notice. From the crowd, Dylan slowly walked forward and allowed himself a moment to breath. Seeing as was waiting, Yang, Blake and Weiss took their places next to Ruby.
When he had finally regained his breath, his faced rose and grinned.
"You do know what that is don't you?" Following his finger, Ruby looked at the glowing red barrier. Then turned back and shrugged. The truth was she did know, that was the entire basis of her plan, but he didn't need to know that. "That's the grimm barrier! Past that is grimm territory. There's nothing but millions upon millions of grimm past there." Ruby shrugged again.
"I don't mind grimm so much, in a sense." He shook his head.
"Oh no, these aren't like any grimm you or I have ever seen. That barrier's job is to incinerate any soul-less creature that touches it. Only one is one hundred thousand grimm are able to make it through, and that's only the ones who have attempted! Even those who have made it through are extremely weakened. An actual beowolf is like a guardian. Past there is no survival."
"Then why try to stop us?" He laughed.
"Who said I wanted to stop you? The four of you have caused more than enough trouble for me and for Vale. I'm here to make SURE you go through that wall." Ruby scowled and reached for crescent rose, but Yang's hand stopped her. She looked up and saw Yang shaking her head, and she understood.
"Fine, you get your wish, we'll go. But the day we return, be ready!" With that, she turned around and dove into the glowing field, and as she landed. Ruby was filled with more terror than she had ever felt in her life. Before her stood a single ursa.
Roar.
