I've finally fully recovered from being sick and now I'm back into writing fanfiction!
This chapter was give to us by catbooklover2004 and we thank you for contributing!
Cats huddled up close as they sat around the tallrock, the leafbare air brushing around them as a newleaf sun rose overhead. The cold had been harsh this season and the numbers of the cats had been dwindling ever since the first of the many blizzards and snow storms. Sitting next to the golden tabby leader was a tri-coloured she-cat, the Clan's deputy, whose thick pelt was ruffled badly from the constant winds. Finally the tom spoke up, his weakened green eyes sharply looking over his own Clan.
"Now, I know you are wondering why I called you all to this meeting. I have some urgent news." He took a brief moment to cough and the she-cat next to him caste a worried expression.
Fallenstar's going to get sick if he continues this.
"Both my deputy, Featherfall, and my medicine cat, Crowleap, have informed me that there is a cat who plans on betraying the Clan and killing both me and Featherfall." Featherfall barely picked up the small wheeze he made, knowing he was trying not to have another coughing fit. She took a small step forward and looked at the golden tabby. He gave a nod and took a step back to let her speak.
"Me and Crowleap have narrowed down the suspects to one cat," She looked down at the black she-cat, who only flicked her gray-tipped tail. She didn't even bother looking at the deputy. Featherfall continued. "We unanimously agreed that Darkheart is the traitor."
"What?!" The black and dark gray tom bristled as his Clanmates stepped away from him, their gaze sharp and judgmental. "This can't be right!"
"You were the only suspect in the crime, right Crowleap?" The tri-coloured she-cat looked down at the medicine cat. Crowleap only responded to the gazes by looking down at her paws and letting out a heartbroken mew.
"I'm sorry, brother."
"Crowleap..." His mew was hoarse as he looked at his littermate, their identical green eyes never meeting. Fallenstar motioned his deputy back as he stepped forward again.
"If this is true, then in order to keep our Clan safe, I hereby banish you, Darkheart. You are no longer welcomed in WindClan. You have until sunhigh to leave our camp for good." The winds picked up as Darkheart backed away. The tom then took off out of the camp and into the open moors. The meeting ended on that note and cats crowded around to comfort the distraught medicine cat. As Featherfall leaped down from tallrock, she picked up some of what they were saying.
"I'm so sorry he was your littermate. This must be terrible news for you."
"If you ever need someone to talk to, you still have me." Through all of the sweet and comforting words she was receiving, Featherfall became completely aware that Crowleap was watching her. She could feel the green eyes burning through her pelt as she padded away. Through the uncomfortable stare, she was also aware that she was being approached. Looking she saw a large, ginger tabby tom, whose nearly black stripes rippled like water.
"Is this really true, Featherfall?" He asked, looking down at the small black, white, and gray she-cat. "Was Darkheart really planning to kill of you and Fallenstar?"
"Yes, Lightningsky, it's true." He fell silent for a moment, overlooking her. As he overlooked him, she was reminded how hard it was to read the tom's emotions. He never purred, his tail was always down*. He never opened up anything to his Clanmates.
"I see. I guess I didn't know him as well as I thought I did."
"I guess not."
It was two days after Darkheart was banished that Fallenstar was found dead in his den. Cats yowled on and on about how the traitor must have had snuck into the camp during the night and killed the golden tabby tom. As the tension and fear rose, Featherfall prepared to head to Moonpool to become the leader. As she started towards the camp's entrance, Crowleap jumped onto tallrock and let out a yowl, her black fur bristling and anger shining in her eyes.
"I can't do this anymore! I can't live this lie, even if it means my death!"
"What are you talking about, Crowleap?" A silver and white tabby elder called. The medicine cat took a deep breath.
"My brother wasn't planning to kill Fallenstar! He was innocent and always was!"
"Then who killed him?" Lightningsky asked, standing tall among the rest.
"It was Featherfall!" Ever cat turned towards the deputy. The tri-coloured she-cat was frozen in fear. She took a moment to relax. The secret was out.
"Yes, I killed Fallenstar! So what? If you exile or kill me, you'll be without a leader or deputy!" Her blue gaze turned to Crowleap. "And a medicine cat if she keeps this up."
Yowls of outrage roared through the camp and every cat turned their hostile gaze towards the deputy. Featherfall could see the hatred in their eyes, but she refused to move. A sharp yowl of anger echoed above the rest, turning, she managed to catch a glimpse of bi-coloured, dark fur as it charged at her. Claws tore at her throat and she fell over, the salty taste of blood being all she could taste.
"Darkheart!"
"You're back!" Her vision faded to darkness and then back again. She managed to catch a glimpse of her Clanmates seeing Darkheart off as he left for the Moonpool. He was going to be the next leader. Not her. She let out an angry yowl as Fallenstar's presence caught her attention. Turning sharply, she notice the former leader's enraged look.
"StarClan as no place for you." His words were cold and uninviting. She tried to take a step forward, only to find herself surrounded by towing, barren trees. Above her, no stars twinkled for reassurance. She was only left with the silence of her choices.
*It is possible for a cat to do this. My cousin's cat Caleb is like this, but it doesn't mean that he's always angry. He's been happy, but never purred and angry, but never bristled or did anything to show his emotions. And Caleb was born perfectly healthy, despite being smaller then his brother.
Now, I want to hear from you lovely fans:
What's your theories on Darktail? Who do you think he is? Where do you think he's from? I would like to hear what you think this mysterious elder's origin is. (I already know, but I would like to hear you guys!)
