Prompt: Surprising absolutely everybody, the relationship between Piper and Jason never ends, and he's the first one to make Henry and Elizabeth grandparents.
Henry reached over to rest his hand over his wife's. She shifted on the vinyl chair, which squeaked in response. Nearby, Stevie and Alison chatted, catching one another up on their busy lives. Henry smiled at Elizabeth.
"Are you as anxious as you look?" he asked. She shrugged.
"Not anxious, per se," she replied. She grinned at him. "I am really excited, though." Henry chuckled lightly and tangled his fingers with hers.
"Me, too," he agreed.
They'd all been surprised when Jason's high school sweetheart had grown up to be his wife. Jason, of course, claimed he'd known all along that Piper was the one for him. Now, as they all waited to hear news of the newest little McCord, none of them could really say much to contradict Jason's proclamations.
"I can't believe we're about to be grandparents," Henry said. Elizabeth groaned.
"Can we focus on the fact that this is a joyous day and not think about how old we're getting?" she asked, and Henry laughed, draping his arm over her shoulders as he kissed her temple.
"Who said anything about getting old?" he said, and she laughed.
"Aright," Henry said a little louder to get the attention of Stevie and Alison. "Final predictions, McCords. Boy or girl?"
"I still stand by boy," Alison replied.
"Girl," chorused Stevie and Elizabeth. The latter reached around her husband to high-five her eldest.
"What about you, Dad? Want to jump on team Boy McCord?" Alison asked her father, who shook his head.
"I still refuse to make guesses," he said.
"That's just because you were wrong with all three of ours," Elizabeth accused. Henry glared at her and their daughters both laughed.
"I think it's time you let that one go," Stevie advised. Just as Henry was about to answer, Jason appeared from the double doors nearby and they all snapped to attention.
"Jace?" Elizabeth prompted, already on her feet in excitement.
"We have a baby," he said, and they all cheered. "You guys can come see," he said, and they all followed him down the hallway to a quiet, dimmed hospital room. Elizabeth smiled up at Henry as they entered, her excitement almost tangible.
"Hello, McCords," Piper said softly as they entered. Resting in her arms was a little bundle of hospital receiving blankets. Jason took the baby from her and she smiled at her husband as he settled the new baby in his arms and grinned at his family.
"Alright everyone, I want to introduce the newest member of the family," he began. He looked down at the baby and then back up at his excited family, all watching him in eager anticipation.
"Rosemary Elizabeth McCord," he said, and Henry glanced down to see Elizabeth covering her mouth with her hand as she met her son's eyes.
"Don't cry," he said, and they all laughed.
"Oh, Jace," she said, moving forward to peer at the baby. "She's gorgeous."
"Yeah," he chuckled. "She is."
He looked up at his mom and smiled.
"Want to meet your granddaughter?" he asked, and she nodded quickly, reaching out. Jason handed the baby to her, and she squirmed a little before settling against Elizabeth, who could practically feel her heart melting.
"Oh, hello," she said. "You're just so precious, aren't you?" She looked up at Henry, who was hovering behind her.
"Doesn't she look like Jason?" Elizabeth asked, and Henry nodded his head, gazing down at the new baby with an arm around his wife.
"She's perfect, Jace," Stevie said as she reached around to hug her brother. "You guys make adorable babies."
"And I beat you," Jason added. Stevie rolled her eyes.
"I'm going to let that slide, because I want to hold my new niece," she announced, and everyone laughed as Stevie moved to take little Rosemary from her mom, who very reluctantly handed the baby over. When the newborn was settled with Stevie, Elizabeth turned to Jason, enveloping him in a hug. He chuckled and hugged her back.
"Jason, I am so proud of you," she murmured. She caressed his cheek and he smiled.
"Thanks, Mom, but I really didn't do much," he said, and she laughed, smiling over his shoulder at Piper.
"She's incredible, both of you," Elizabeth said.
Henry hugged his son, who grinned at his dad.
"How's it feel?" Henry asked, and Jason shook his head.
"Crazy," he laughed, looking over to where his big sisters were cooing over his new daughter. "But the best kind of crazy."
"Welcome to fatherhood," Henry laughed, and Jason grinned.
"Welcome to grandfatherhood, old man."
