I have more up. I hope you like this one.
Leo and Chloe are chuckling as they park in the lot of the local ice cream shop. They are part of the group of cars that holds the vikings soccer team. They all get out, along with a few friends and all go into the shoppe. "I still can't believe she made that shot," Leo says. One of the girls on the team, Felicity, had did a near impossible shot, winning the game for the home team. Now, they are celebrating.
"Let's hear it for Felicity 'Kick Start' Gale!" One of the other guys that came yells as they enter. Other patrons clap for the girl being carried in.
"Well," Felicity says, being modest, "I couldn't have done it without my team. Or.. a new edition to the team this year, Chloe Garcia." Chloe bows to the attention and laughs as the guys chant her nickname.
"Side Sweep, Side Sweep!" Chloe waves them away and she and Leo take a seat in a booth.
"'Side Sweep?'" Leo asks.
"Hey Kick? You paying?" A girl teammate asks. That brings out a range of laughter. Felicity shakes her head.
"I believe coach is paying," she says, looking at the middle aged man that enters last. The laughter changes to 'oohs' and he relents. He buys everyone ice cream. Leo gets his and his question concerning Chloe's nickname is finally addressed.
"Yeah, Bill came to practice one time too many and told the team the name he gave me. I'm pretty good at sweeping the ball out from an opponent's legs."
"From the side?" Leo asks.
"For the most part," Chloe admits. Leo chuckles and takes a bite of his ice cream. "Thanks for being there, Leo."
"Thanks for picking me up. I haven't had much use of.." He looks at his leg. It's still healing. He'll be able to ditch the crutches soon, but not soon enough.
"I still can't believe Mikey had you do that," Chloe says.
"Well, he does some pretty strange pranks. I get caught in the middle a lot. This isn't the worst he's done."
"Really?" Chloe asks.
"Yeah, you've never been at the house in the summer, during an all out prank war."
"Who is usually involved?"
"Always Mikey. Raph, Donnie.. me sometimes, but I'm not the best at it." Leo smiles at the memories. "You wake up to a brother screaming because of a fake bug on their face or the hot water turned off, you tend to not stoke the flame."
Chloe starts chuckling. "Sounds great, and messy."
"Mikey ends up with a few bruises."
"Oh yeah? From what?"
"Uh.. Raph," Leo admits. Chloe goes silent.
Then she nods, almost.. knowingly. "Raph."
"Has he talked to you at all, since what happened?"
"Nope, not really. Well, at first. But a few days before your vacation to present, not a word."
"Huh, weird.." Leo says to himself.
"What was that?"
"Oh! Nothing, just, lost in thought."
"I'm really glad that you are okay with just being friends," Chloe says. Leo smiles.
"I didn't want to lose a good friend. If you don't want anything farther, I can honor that."
"..Can Raph?" She asks. Leo goes silent. He can't talk about his brother when it comes to relationships. He doesn't have one to compare to.
"Raph.. is a little.. difficult at times. But he means well." Chloe nods, not believing him. "Really, he's a great guy. He can be loud, sarcastic, and a bit.. harsh and rude- but really," Leo adds quickly, "After living with him your whole life, you tend to see his soft side. We know him more than the shell everyone else sees." Leo smiles at his hidden joke.
"..Okay.."
After a few more bites, Leo braves a question, "So.. you have your dad who I haven't seen yet, your uncle, your sister who is in college.." Leo pauses, causing Chloe to look up from her ice cream. "Is there a mother.. by chance?"
Chloe looks down. Leo is about to take the question back, say he was kidding and she didn't have to answer, but she does. "Mom.. passed away."
"..How-? Not, that you have to answer," Leo makes sure to add.
"Of all things, a plane crash," Chloe scoffs, "I've hated plane travel since."
"Well, it's very rare for a plane crash to occur," Leo says carefully, "Don can tell you the chances."
"Well it happened to her, okay," Chloe says, shaking a little, "I hate heights, especially thirty thousand feet in the air."
Leo shakes his head to himself and chuckles.
"What's so funny?"
"We have so much in common," he says.
"How so?"
"I, well, used to be terrified of heights." Leo flashes a brief smile before letting it drop. "And.. my mother is gone too."
"..Who was she?" Chloe asks.
"Tang-Hamato Shen," he says, "I don't remember much about her, I was very little. Mikey had barely been a month when it happened."
"Can you tell me how..?" Leo closes his eyes shut. He shouldn't have mentioned it. This is the one thing he can't handle talking about. He can hold it in around the guys most times, but with Chloe here, he can't. "Leo?" Chloe had moved next to him.
"She was, murdered, Chloe," he whispers. Chloe gasps and slides him into a hug.
"I am so sorry, Leo. That should never happen to someone."
"She isn't the only one," Leo says. The only thing that hurts as much, if not worse, than the loss of his mother, is- "I lost a sister too."
"A.. sister?"
"Yes. She was older than me by a few minutes. She was taken like my mother. I live with that separation."
"Did she have a name?"
"..Miwa. My brothers and I were named after Renaissance masters, like my mother wanted. But Father wanted to name my sister with something Japanese."
"If you need to talk, Leo, I'll be here," Chloe promises. Leo nods, thankful. They break apart and Chloe goes back to her spot. A few of her friends slide in with them and soon the ice cream is gone and Leo has to be taken back to his house.
"Hey, Chloe?" Leo asks as she drives up, "Would you like to come in sometime? You know, for homework, hanging with us, meeting Master Yoshi- I mean my, father," Leo corrects himself.
"Master Yoshi, huh?" Chloe asks.
"Father has taught us ninjutsu," Leo explains.
"All of you? Not just Raph?" Leo nods. "Well, maybe later. After that ice cream and the game, I need a shower and serious sleep. See you Monday."
Leo insists he can get to the house okay on his own and walks away as she drives off. He opens the door and finds a quiet house. He looks around and doesn't see anyone. "Hello?" He asks.
He crutches up the stairs and walks to his room. He changes out of the jersey and into something that isn't full of sweat from the surprisingly hot day. He walks back out and peaks in each of his brothers rooms. Mikey is knocked out on his bed, a drawing half done under his freckled face and blonde curls.
Leo walks to Donnie's and sees faint light from sparks of a welding torch. He peeks in and says, "Don't burn yourself," teasing his younger brother.
"Uh huh," Donnie says slowly, concentrating, "How was the game?"
"Vikings won." Leo leaves and checks Raph's room. But he isn't there. He goes to the dojo, which takes a while. Raph is there, next to the punching dummy.
But he isn't pummeling it like he usually would do. He's holding it like he is stopping it from moving to get another hit in. Only.. the dummy isn't even moving.
"Hey Raph, you okay?" Leo says, seeing the difference in attitude. Raph looks over at him. His fists show he was using the punching bag, at some point.
"Yeah.. No, no Leo, um.." Raph turns from the dummy and looks at Leo nervously, "I got somethin' to tell ya."
"..Okay. Let's go to the couches." Leo figures Raph would be more comfortable to talk when he is off his legs. And Leo wants to get his knuckles looked at. He grabs the first aid kit and sits next to his strangely jittery brother.
"Uh.. Leo, I kinda, broke the rule we set.." Raph admits. Leo looks up from examining the small cuts on his hand.
"..What?"
"I've been talking to Chloe-"
"No you haven't. She told me you haven't talked to her since-"
"I know, Leo. That's the point." Leo stops and waits for him to continue. "She doesn' know it's me."
Leo stares into his brother's green eyes for a few moments, making Raph really uncomfortable. "You meet her as a turtle don't you?" Leo asks.
"I saved her once when I was on patrol and made sure she got home. But then I'd visit her when I needed to talk. Now she wants to know more about me."
"You can't blow our cover," Leo says.
"I know. I'll stop going there."
"Shouldn't you say that you can't talk to her anymore? So she doesn't fret?" Leo points out.
Raph nods, "Yeah. I guess so. ..Are you mad?" He receives a slap on the back of his brown head. "Ow! Okay, okay, you're mad."
"OF COURSE I'M MAD!" Leo yells, furious. "Turtles first Raph! You should have told me. Is there anything else you need to tell me?" Raph shakes his head, hesitantly. "Spill Raph, now."
"..I kissed her, alright? The red ninja turtle kissed her."
"A kiss? A kiss?! You weren't going to tell me about that?"
"Hey! It wasn't long alright. And yeah.. not yet at least."
"Why?"
"Because yer actin' like me! I wouldn't want ta tell myself that inf'rmation. I'd like to keep my head." Raph sits back and takes the cloth from Leo so he can look at his own hand. "Not like it'll do much. If she ever finds out, she'll get a good whack at me." Leo stares at his brother before getting up and going to his room. He's had enough of this drama.
So, I think the friendship bit is going rather well.
I think his mom's name is correct. And I added more about it. Leo is very sensitive to it.
Review a quote of what you think Leo is thinking now. About anything really.
I'm not too sure what to write next. But I'll figure it out.
Also.. once my school year starts next week, I am slimming off to two main stories, not three. The third will have chapters come up, but less frequently.
The unlucky story to be slightly sidelined is Country Lass, not this one. (I want this done!)
