I actually pity Quirrell. According to *SPOILER ALERT* Pottermore, Quirrell was insanely intelligent and only sought out Voldemort to try and become more powerfully to seek revenge on those who bullied him for being so timid and nervous at school. Very sad fate for such a brilliant mind.
