Tris POV
I hear the soft thrumming of the heart monitor that is hooked up to me. I slowly open my eyes and am blinded by a bright light. I look around the white sterile environment before I realise I am in the hospital. I put my Hands to my stomach but nothing is there. I quickly look to my stomach. It's flat. No, no no! He had three and a half months left, there is no way he could survive if they took him out now! I start to panic and a sob grips up my throat. I look around the room and see Tobias sleeping in a chair. My eyes grow blurry and I feel tears streak my face. Keep it together Tris. I can't. The sob escapes and I gasp. " Tris! Oh my god are you okay? Are you in pain? Do i need to get the nurse?" I shake my head no.
"He's gone isn't he. There's no way he could have made it. It's all my fault. If i had just stayed home like you told me to. I'm so sorry Toby." I can't say anymore. I can't stop the tears.
" I told you to stay home. I knew this would happen Tris." He doesn't look me in the eyes. He turns around and walks out the door, and I am all alone.
Tobias POV
After I headed off to work, I called Christina to make sure Tris went over there. She told me all about how they were going dress shopping. I told her to have fun and let me know when they got back. I wanted to have lunch with Tris. I went back to working shortly after. I just couldn't keep my eyes off the clock. Security work is boring. I get to monitor the labs video feed. Nothing ever happens in there. Lunch cannot come soon enough.
As noon rolls around I start to worry. Tris hates shopping. She would have usually called me by now to get out of it. I guess maybe she is enjoying herself. That's when my phone rings. I chuckle. Maybe she's not enjoying herself. Some things never change. I answer without looking to see who it is knowing it's probably her. "Hey hun how the shopping?" Instead of Tris' annoyed voice I hear Christina. She's panicked. "Christina what happened?"
"We were just trying on dresses a-and s-she was heard to the dressing room and. I'm sorry Tobias! I-I didn't know what to do. I-I-" I cut her off.
"Stop it! Where are you? Where's Tris?"
"Hospital." That's all she could say before she broke down in tears. I hung up and called Will.
"Hey what's up Tobias?"
"Goto the hospital I'll meet you there." Before he could respond I hung up and clocked out of work. I ran as fast as I could to the hospital. It was all the way on the other side of the base. By the time I reached the doors I was out of breath. I quickly walked to tbe receptionist who was on the phone. "I'm looking for my wife Tris Eaton?"
"Just a moment sir." She held up a finger motioning for me to wait.
"If you don't tell me where the bell my wife is right now I will wander this hospital until I find her myself."
"Please hold." She set down the phone and clicked some buttons on the keyboard. "Mr. Eaton your wife is in room 221 on the third floor. If you please sign in and take a visitor sticker you may go on up. I'm sorry to have inconvenienced you." I quickly signed in and ran to the elevator.
I searched for a good five minutes before I found it. Right as I was about to walk in the doctor walked out. "How is she?"
"You must be ." The elder gentleman chimed. "Your wife has been under quite the lot of stress over the past month or so, from what I have heard from her friend. That amount of stress has been catching up with her since you've all had a chance to settle down. This induced Braxton hicks contractions. Fake labour. Her body was preparing her for what it will feel like when the time comes. But it only stressed her more which had caused her to blackout. She reopened an old fracture in her wrist from the fall and hit her head pretty hard. Her body needs to rest so she might be out for a little while. We'll wait it out and keep an eye on her butbut She should be fine."
"A-and how's the baby?" I was almost afraid to ask.
"Oh the little one is just fine. O.B. Will be by when she wakes up to do another ultrasound just to be sure."
"Thank you." I walked in and saw her. She was hooked up to wires and there was an Iv in her arm. A single tear rolled down her face. I walked over to the side of the bed and laid my hand on her swollen belly. I leaned down and kissed next my hand. "Hey there. Daddy's here and mommy is going to be just fine. You just stay put okay?" she kicked my hand. I planted another kiss on Tris' belly then kissed her forehead before sitting in the chair next to the best and slowly dosing off.
