Chapter 33

After tryouts yesterday, Ashley and I found ourselves in the same position as the day before. Passed out on my bed. My dad attempted to wake us up the first night for dinner but I'm not even sure he bothered last night. If he did, we were so out of it, we don't remember.

I have been waiting patiently all day to see if Coach posts the roster today. I am hoping so because I really don't to wait until tomorrow. Ashley already knows whether or not I have made the team, but she is doing a great job and not even hinting whether I did or not.

Babe, have you heard? -xo A

Heard what? -xo S

Meet me in the locker room in 5 mins :-* -xo A

When I got to the locker room, Ashley was already there and smiling. She looked at me and looked over at the bulletin board. I knew what this meant. The roster was up and by the look on her face, she was no longer hiding the fact that I made the team. I just had to see for myself.

I walked over to the bulletin board and looked for my name.

Carlin, Spencer – 3rd base – starter

Am I reading that right? I'm a starter?

"Babe, are you ok?"

"Am I really a starter?"

"Yes, baby you really are!"

"Ash, please don't lie to me, did you have something to do with this?"

"I promise you, I did not! When I left the coaches this morning, all I knew was that you were on the team. Coach knows that we are together and never even brought you up for discussion."

"I made starter! Babe, I MADE STARTER!"

Spencer was in my arms, hugging and kissing me. I couldn't help but pick her and spin around. You would think that we just won the lottery or something, but this meant a lot to Spencer. Making this team is what she needed to feel a part of something again.

"We need to go home and tell your dad, he is going to be so proud of you!"

"We need to celebrate!"

"We will baby, I promise!"

As soon as I got home, I went running into the kitchen and found dad standing there cooking per usual.

"Dad!" He dropped everything in his hands and looked up at me.

"You made the team?" He was just as excited as I was.

"I made starter! I am the starting 3rd baseman!"

"Wow! Spence! I am so proud of you! See, we both told you that you had nothing to worry about."

My dad picked me up much like Ashley did in the locker room and spun me around.

"We are celebrating, how about we go out to dinner instead?"

"But you're already cooking."

"I was just getting started Spence and what I have out, I can put back in the fridge and we can just have it tomorrow night for dinner. We are going out tonight. I am going to text the boys and let them know so they can join if they want."

Hey boys! Spence made starter on the softball team at school. Taking her out to celebrate, want to join? - Dad

I'm in! – Clay

Me too! Where we goin? – Glen

"They both said they are joining. Where do you want to go?"

"Hard Rock Café."

Meet at Hard Rock Café in 30 mins – Dad

"You guys want to drive yourselves or do you want to ride with me?"

"If you don't mind dad, can we drive separately?"

"Sounds good to me. Meet you both there?"

"See you there."

Dad was out of the house and in the car. Ashley and I just stood there waiting for him to back out of the driveway.

"Why did you want us to drive separately?"

"Because I am hoping that maybe instead of coming back here, maybe we can go back to my place for the night and celebrate in our own way?"

"You are really cute when you are being shy. Of course, we can go to your house. Let me grab my things really quick."

"Awesome!"

I was back down stairs in two minutes and we were making our way to the Hard Rock Café to celebrate.

Our hands found their usual resting spot, linked together next to the gear shifter.

"I love you!"

"I love you too Ash, more then you may ever know!"
