Over the next few weeks Dean couldn't shake the feeling that he was forgetting something really really important – almost like it was life or death. He racked his brain, over and over but nothing came – it was like there was a wall preventing him from remembering that night, the night he left the bar when he, somehow, ended getting stabbed in the shoulder.
Dean sighed heavily and shook away the thoughts that had been plaguing him for weeks – it was no use trying to remember something that wasn't there anymore, he would drive himself crazy. He craned his neck to the side and watched his sister sleep, her head resting on the window. With a devilish smirk Dean turned the wheel, sending the car flying sideways. Jade jolted awake, rubbing her head that bounced off the glass.
"There better have been something on that road because if you did that on purpose I will kill you" She warned before yawning loudly, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
"I'm bored – entertain me" He told her and she looked at him with her eyebrows raised. Well…. He was bored, it had been a five hour car ride and they still had at least another four hours until they hit Florida – and with his dad not here and Jade sleeping, he felt like ripping his hair out.
"You're bored? You woke me up because you're bored?" Jade asked slowly and Dean nodded unshamefully.
"Well I dunno how I'm gonna keep you amused, there's absolutely nothing to do" Jade sighed, turning up the radio which blasted out AC/DC at full volume – even Dean (who was used to loud noises) cringed away slightly. He would be deaf before he reached thirty traveling with his sister.
She started bobbing her head to the catchy tune 'highway to hell' and soon Dean joined in – they both shared the passion for old rock music – but at the same time, the song, the lyrics, everything, made a shiver run down Dean's spine, like the old saying about people walking on your grave. He pushed it away almost instantly though – he was twenty three years old… why was he worrying about hell?
They peeled into the motel parking lot a few hours later, not long after their dad. Dean grabbed his and Jade's bags and exited the impala, looking towards their dad for instructions.
"So Caleb said this thing only kills in midday in front of witnesses so I say we hit the sack, get some rest, because we'll be up bright and early tomorrow" He explained and Dean nodded whilst their dad went to get them a room. When he turned around Jade was checking out some guys coming out of the pool, her head tilted to the side like they were some complicated maths question. Dean just rolled his eyes and turned her around, placing her hands on her shoulders.
"Okay, no more looking at half-naked guys for you" He told her and Jade scoffed.
"Oh please, I'd like to see you keep it in your pants when we're here" She replied and Dean just stared down at her.
"I'd like to have you know I do have some level of self-control" And Jade shot him a look of disbelief, "Okay… maybe not but that doesn't mean…" He trailed as his eyes caught a bikini clad woman, also pulling herself out of the pool.
"My point exactly" she said triumphantly, escaping his grip, "And anyway, we're in Florida Dean, FLORIDA, one of the best party places in America, don't think I'm gonna pass up this chance" She told him before disappearing away into their motel room.
"Yeah, I get tha-"He stopped and thought about what she just said, "Hey, no you're not" He called after her, following Jade into the motel room.
The next morning they were up early, yawning, stretching and blinking against the early morning sun.
"Right, I get first shower" Jade called out to him, already grabbing fresh clothes and heading toward the bathroom.
"Only if you pay for breakfast" Dean called after her, pulling on a pair of jeans.
"My purse is in my duffel – help yourself" She said, shutting the door and a few seconds later he heard the shower turn on. Dean sighed tiredly and pulled himself from the bed, more tired than he cared to admit. He grabbed Jade's green duffel bag and untied it, rooting through her make-up, clothes, odd weapons and some of her more, ah, feminine products. Dean shivered and pulled out her deep blue purse, opening the zip and taking out a twenty – he was just about to close it when he shrugged and took out another twenty – well, she did say 'help yourself'. He shoved her things back in and was just about to leave when his eye caught something rooted in an open pocket. Curiosity got the better of him and he pulled it out, his eyebrows furrowing in concern.
It read 'Benzodiazepines' and as far as Dean knew they were strong sleeping pills, like the kind people can become addicted to. He read them over and found out they were prescribed by a doctor? When did Jade have time to visit a doctor? He shook his head and replaced the bottle of pills. Maybe she was still having a hard time sleeping with the nightmares, Dean didn't know, but he didn't want to bring it up now – not when they were just going out on a hunt and especially since he and Jade hadn't argued in over a month – it was a record.
So he just closed her duffel and left the motel room, looking for somewhere that sold half decent coffee.
When Jade had finished quickly drying her hair Dean was back carrying a mountain of food and delicious smelling coffee that almost made Jade drool.
"You can keep the change" She told him, grabbing her waffles and pancakes and digging into them, slurping away on her coffee.
"Oh don't worry I was planning to" Dean said cheekily and Jade stuck her tongue out at him. It was no skin of her nose, she won that money playing darts at a local championship a few weeks back, it wasn't like she worked for it.
"Did dad say where we were meeting him?" She asked around a mouthful of pancakes and syrup.
"Just some beach down the road, whatever the hell this thing is it lives in the water feeding on delicious half naked tourists" And Jade snorted. They continued to eat until Jade frowned, suddenly thinking about how they were going to catch this thing.
"How are we gonna kill it if we don't know what it is? And do we have to go in the water?" She asked and Dean stopped chamming away, his eyes softening.
"That's why we're going down, y'know scout out the area, figure out what it is… and no, not unless worse comes to worse" And Jade let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. She wasn't scared of water per say, she would jump into a lake if needed but ever since that whole drowning and dying incident when she was fourteen… well, it put her off just a tad. But no way was it as bad as spiders, no way in hell. She would happily jump into the middle of the sea before she ever, ever touched that thing. Yes, a hunter afraid of spiders, how ridiculous she thought.
"I can live with that – now are you gonna move your flabby ass or do you want to be late?" And Dean almost choked on his cheeseburger.
"My ass isn't flabby" He protested and Jade just smirked, throwing her duffel bag over her shoulder – she just loved annoying Dean, it made her whole day just seeing his mortified face.
"Well it will be if you keep eating those" She chuckled, grabbing the car keys from the wooden table, "Now I'm driving, no arguments" And straight away Dean stood up, looking like his worst nightmare was just about to come true.
"No, no way, you will hurt my baby and kill us all, now… hand over the keys slowly" Dean suggested and Jade smiled devilishly, holding the keys in front of her, teasing Dean.
"Hmmm, let me think about that… no" She laughed, escaping the room and sliding into the front seat effortlessly. Dean, unfortunately, was less graceful – Jade watched on, amused, as he tripped on the doorway, stumbling and hitting his head before his duffel broke and a bunch of guns, knives and blades fell, clanging to the pavement.
Jade just laughed out loud to the point where tears were streaming down her cheeks and her sides ached from laughing so hard. A bunch of women strutted past, giving Dean weird and mortified looks and that made Jade laugh even harder – what a klutz.
When Dean plonked himself in the passenger seat he threw the broken bag in the back and turned to glare at her and Jade could clearly see a bump forming on his forehead.
"That was your fault" He stated sulkily, slamming the door and tying his seatbelt – Dean hardly cared about wearing a seat belt and that made Jade smile. Honestly, she wasn't going to crash Dean's baby, she was, somewhat, a careful driver.
"My fault? You're the one lumbering about like bigfoot" She giggled, starting the ignition and putting the impala in reverse and she watched as Dean grabbed the seat.
"Just… don't crash, I actually like having all my limbs" Dean told her and Jade rolled her eyes. Oh well, May as well have a little bit of fun. She swivelled the car around quickly, zig-zagging past the other cars and zoomed from the parking lot, revving the engine and, just to piss Dean off, deliberately started overtaking every car on the highway.
Because she was driving do damn quick they got to the beach in just under four minutes and met their dad who was standing next to a cute little ice-cream parlour.
"What's wrong with him?" Her dad asked, looking over at Dean who was out of the car in a shot, rubbing his 'baby' and checking every inch of her from the bonnet to the rims of the tires.
"Eh, he doesn't trust me driving" Jade replied with an eye roll and her dad let out a noise of agreement.
"Who does?" He relented and Jade punched him in the arm, "I am not that bad, I have never crashed, nor ever damaged a car, you two really need to have more faith in me" She told them, folding her arms across her chest and her dad chuckled, kissing her forehead before pulling Dean away from the impala.
An hour later Dean and Jade were walking up and down the stretch of beach, Dean goggling at the half naked women and Jade appreciating the toned muscles of the guys playing volleyball.
"Where the hell is this thing? It's nearly noon, shouldn't it have made an appearance by now?" Jade sighed, pulling off her t-shirt away from her clammy body leaving her in a vest top – damn this weather was almost unbearable.
"It'll show up – patience Jade" Dean told her and Jade rolled her eyes.
"You're telling me to have patience? That's ironic" She scoffed and silence fell between the two siblings. Dean started walking ahead of her and Jade fell behind, fanning her face – but she was thankful for the cool breeze the sea brought in.
"Oomph" Jade gasped, stumbling back slightly, "Um sorry, my bad, I wasn't looking where I was going" She apologised, moving her long hair away from her face.
"Me neither, sorry" the girl chirped out – she looked about Jade's age with bright red flaming hair, a star wars t-shirt and red jeans. Her shoulder bag had about a million badges attached to it, all of which Jade couldn't read but if she had to guess they were fandom badges.
"No problem" Jade told her, excusing herself but ended up standing on something. She bent down at picked up an old, tattered copy of 'the hobbit' and guessed it was the girl's that she ran into.
"Hey, wait up… I think you dropped something" Jade called to her, running up to the redhead and handing her the book.
"Oh right, thanks, this is my favourite book" The girl explained before she disappeared into the crowd and Jade shook her head to clear her thoughts… she was strange but seemed very interesting. She ran and caught up with Dean.
"DEAN" Jade screamed when she was just a few steps away from him, her eyes focusing in on the creature. He turned around quickly, his gun now firmly in his hands. He looked where she was looking and both siblings exchanged a worried glance.
"I think we need more fire power" Jade muttered as she looked into the, things, gleaming eyes. Dean let out a noise of agreement just as a large, powerful scaly tail whipped out and hit Jade into Dean and they both went flying into the jagged rocks before losing consciousness.
Yay, another chapter. Ha! And surely you guys guessed who the red head was right? Haha, anyway, your reviews would be very much appreciated! :) xx
