A/N: Set during 3x12 just after Merlin starts the fire that allows him, Arthur and Gwaine to escape from the slave trader.
Shades of Grey
The day begun just like any other. A few decent sales, a couple of new acquisitions and a fight to entertain the men. When the fire inexplicably started everyone either fled for their lives, attempted to put out the flames or chased after the escapees. Jarl had other priorities, however, sprinting through the door and bolting up the stairs that lead to the most comfortable room in this old, neglected fortress.
"You're back early tonight, dear. Whatever is the matter?"
"There's a fire, Mother, I need to get you to safety. I'd never forgive myself if anything happened to you."
