Edward's POV

I watched her pick at her food with a smirk on her face.

"IS something wrong?" I asked before taking a swig off of the bottle of beer that I had been nursing since she had agreed to stay.

"No everything is fine," she assured me with a small smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. Just seeing it there made me stomach turn since I knew Jasper was behind it even if I didn't know exactly what he had said to her.

"Sure, I've never seen vegetables cut with this precision," she teased as she held up the silver of celery pierced with a prong from her fork before giggling.

"You shut your mouth," I laughed along with her before tossing my napkin in her face.

"I'm sorry, Edward," she breathed out as her laughter slowed. "Dinner was wonderful."

We talked nonsense while cleaning up for dinner. It was easier top discuss co-workers and projects than the discomfort that surrounded us. It wasn't until she was curled against me on the couch that I decided enough was enough. I needed to know what I was working against when it came to Jasper.

"What happened with Jasper?" I asked and then braced for what wave of paranoia he had unleashed inside of her.

"Nothing really," she said as I nodded my head.

"It couldn't have been anything," I goaded her and then listened to her grumble in response. "He came over to my house all happy as fuck with the idea that you were leaving me. Is that true?"

"I…." she stammered while clutching my shirt in her hands.

"If you have plans on ending us I think I should be the first to know, not Jasper," I continued on as she moved so she could look at me.

"We're not together," she argued weakly while I laughed at her.

"Is that what you really think?"

"Well..."

"You really believe that I assume your fantasy is doing laundry at my place and then falling asleep reading while I play Clash of Clans on my phone?" I laughed and then watched her crack a shy grin.

"You make our life sound so boring," she snorted softly as she moved to straddle my lap so we were face to face.

"Do you need me to point out that you said our life?" I asked her as her cheeks flamed red again.

"Maybe that is my fantasy," she countered back with red cheeks and a smile that was she was trying to hide her smile. She was damn pretty when refusing to admit she was wrong.

"Okay, then I'll forget out that Magic Mike strip routine that I've been working on for you," I teased as I watched her stare at me with her mouth gaped open in shock before breaking out in loud happy laughter. "This is your fantasy after all."

"Now that's just cruel, Edward," she laughed while balancing on top of me. "You know how much I want to see you dance and… and you promised."

"I did," I nodded as her hands moved along my waist before slipping under my t-shirt. Her fingers teased along my side in a ticklish manner. "But…"

"No buts," she insisted with a wide grin that had stolen my heart years ago. "I need to see you dance….and take off your clothes. Yes, I really need that."

"You really need to see me dance because you know I can't," I laughed along with her as I wrapped my arms around her waist to pull her closer on top of me. I kissed her, tasting the sweet laughter on her lips as she wrapped herself around me.

"That's not true," she assured me in between kisses and giggles. "You have amazing sense of rhythm."

"Pervert," I whispered against her lips as she continued to laugh at me. I swallowed her giggles as she melted against me so damn perfectly that I sighed.

"What did he say this time?" I asked her as her laughter died. "Was it about Tanya? Because we both know that I didn't date her."

"Edward…" she breathed out as I felt her stiffen above me.

"I might have been heartbroken, but I'm not an asshole, Bella. I would never hurt you like that," I breathed out as I felt my heart pound against my ribs. "I was her math tutor, and that was all. I'm pretty sure she told you that too… Jasper screwed around her, but… you know Jasper."

"She did, but…. Wait a minute, why would you be heartbroken?" she insisted, moving off of me so that she was at my side.

"Because you broke my heart, "I reminded her, earning an eye roll.

"I did not," she insisted while I smiled at her. "And we agreed never…"

"Yes, I know we agreed to never talk about that night, but I don't want to, Bella, not anymore. We need to talk that night, especially if you are going to let that night still alter what we have going here," I stated simply while I watched her face flush crimson red while she looked down in embarrassment.

"I'm not…"

"Bella, I once more have to explain that I did not date your roommate from freshman year. A girl that you never saw again after that year. A girl I had no interest in, yet because Jasper said something it had to be true," I continued on while she gnawed on her bottom lip nervously.

"Jasper…"

"Is a liar. He's always been a liar."

"Edward," she whined softly before finally meeting my gaze.

"Bella," I whined in response and then watched her grin as I mimicked her.

"You don't understand. He's been my friend since I was five."

"I understand that one night I came back from studying at the library to find you on my bed in a bra and panties," I began while she tried shushing me, but I ignored her.

"I understand that night you asked me to be yours and it was fucking perfect," I talked over the topped of her rambling for me to shut up. "We are talking like one of the best nights of my life even though you puked on me because you got drunk waiting for me to show up."

"Edward please?" she practically begged me.

"It was fine, Bella," I reminded her, needing her to remember that night and how sweet it was. "It was more than fine if you remember it."

I watched as she looked away from me in what could only be embarrassment.

"I do," she whispered softly while looking down at her hands that I held tight with my own.

"Then tell me what happened?" I insisted while she remained silent. "Tell me what happened because when I woke up you were gone."

"Nothing," she whispered.

"Don't cover for him," I warned her. "I know he talked to you, convinced you that it was a bad idea… that we were a bad idea."

"You said you didn't want me… That I wasn't…" she stammered on while I shook my head at her.

"I never said I didn't want you," I argued. "I agreed with whatever you said because the last thing I wanted was to lose you and that's what was going to happen. That's what did happen if you remember it."

"I never…"

"You did. You avoided me for weeks. I had to fight to see you again, remember?"

Bella remained silent for a moment staring at me while chewing on her lip nervously.

"Just so you know, you were exactly what I wanted," I assured her simply. "And that hasn't changed. It will never change, Bella."
