Christian's POV
Present Time
"Yes Sir, her name is Elena Lincoln"
Say what? I tear my gaze away from the gentleman who could easily be my twin - except that he is older.
"Did you say Elena Lincoln?" I hiss and the officer whose name I believe is Graham Crackers stands straighter. What the hell is up with his name?
"Yes Mr. Grey" he confirms.
I am livid. I made sure to cut Elena out of my life but she is like a fucking parasite that found her way back. I swear if she has anything to do with Ray's accident, I will make sure she will not live to see another day.
"Where is she?" I demand.
"Sir?" the officer looks between me and my father.
"I said, where the fuck is Elena Lincoln, Crackers?" I get in his face.
"Christian, calm down" I hear my dad say.
"Not now dad. TAYLOR!" I shout and head out of the room. I am so furious I have nothing on my mind but to get hold of one Elena Fucking Lincoln and then choke her.
I follow Taylor inside the elevator and I trust him to lead me to the bitch's room. Before the lift fully closes, my eyes land on Ana who has a displeased look on her beautiful face. I'm sorry baby but I have to do this.
When I hear the familiar ping I noticed we have arrived on the 6th floor. My feet are moving out of their own accord and the next thing I know I am standing in front of a room at the end of the hallway. I push the door open, not bothering to knock.
The whole room is dark and I almost thought we got the wrong room until a small hopeful voice reaches my ears.
"Christian?"
I switch on the lights and the sight before me would be amusing if I wasn't mad as hell. Elena is lying on her bed with only an IV attached to her left arm. Her face is another story though. It is fucking swollen and when I mean swollen; it is like somebody injected water on her face making her look bloated.
"Christian Darling?" I hear Elena say again and this time a small smile graces her lips but then winces. Fuck, she looks pathetic.
"Don't call me Darling" I spit.
"But Darling" she tries once more but I glare at her.
"I said DO NOT FUCKING CALL ME DARLING E.L.E.N.A! I am not your friend anymore. I thought you were my friend but you are nothing but a lying bitch!" I scream and she has the decency to look shocked.
"You don't mean that Dar… I mean Christian. I helped you. I made you who you are… I…" I held my hand up to stop her and frustratedly run the other through my hair. This is going nowhere.
"I am only here to ask you two questions but I only need one answer – Yes or No. That is all I want to hear, do you understand?" I ask and she nods, speechless.
"Did you know that Raymond Steele, Anastasia's dad is in the car you crashed into? Did you plan this whole thing?" I question and she looks confused at first but I caught the recognition in her eyes.
"I don't know what you are talking about Christian" she answers while gazing at her fingernails as if they are the most fascinating thing on earth.
"Did you now?" I raise my eyebrows at her.
"But of course, I don't know that mousy girl's father. You know I will not stoop down to that level Christian. I was drunk, yes, but that was because Isaac left me. I have no one Christian. I was on my way to Escala because I want us to reconcile. We work together didn't we? We are perfect together," she claims and I am appalled.
"Shut up Elena! Just shut the fuck up! I know you had a hand in what your ex-husband did to me but I let it slide hoping you will take the hint and disappear. I am tired of this. You will get what you deserve. I will no longer waste any more time with you" I look at Taylor deciding it's best to leave when Elena speaks again.
"You will regret this Christian! We belong together! You need me, you always needed me. That Anastasia will never be enough to satisfy your needs. Mark my words. I will have the last laugh!" she threatens and I just shook my head. Like I said, pathetic.
I am almost out of the door with Elena still laughing like a banshee when Taylor and I both stop in our tracks. Laughing Elena turned into coughing Elena.
She is struggling to breathe and I just look at her. Before I can comprehend what is happening a doctor comes rushing inside the room followed by several nurses. Elena starts convulsing and she is struggling to breathe. What the fuck is happening?
I stood their stunned until I hear someone state, "Time of death, 6:56pm"
Holy shit.
"Sir?" Taylor taps my shoulder and I stare at him. I notice a figure coming closer to us. Ana. I need my Ana. I walk past Taylor and straight into my baby's arms. God, this feels good.
"Ana" I breathe as she strokes my face and suddenly realize that we are now standing in the hallway. I take one last look at the Elena's room and saw my dad talking to the doctors while a nurse covers her face with a white blanket.
"I'm sorry Christian" Ana comforts but to my surprise I feel fine. No feeling of loss or sadness. Nothing. Na-da.
"Her wish came true" I whisper still holding her close.
"What wish?" she inquires.
"She had her last laugh" I glance at Taylor and hear him mutter, "That she did"
One Week Later
Of all the things that happened these past months, Elena's death has been the culmination - at least I hope so. I am not rejoicing someone's death but I am relieved. I know my family feels the same. Elena Lincoln died of heart attack but to me it is more like choked to death from laughing out loud. Only my parents attended her funeral. Apparently, she is right when she said she has no one.
Elena's death unleashed the skeletons she has been keeping in her closet. The officers who are working on her case had to search her place and found disturbing photographs and videos. It is just a shame that justice can no longer be brought for the kids that she has molested. I make a mental note to talk to my mother if Coping Together can do something to help them. As for me, I already gave Welch and Barney a huge bonus for thinking ahead and removing any trace of my involvement with Elena – except for our derailed business relationship.
"Christian?" I hear Ana say.
"In here" I respond while downing the last drop of scotch and place it on the coffee table.
Ray has been moved to the private room and Ana visits him early in the mornings and late in the afternoons. I went with her this morning but I was swamped with work that I wasn't able to accompany her this afternoon.
She greets me with her warm smile and a chaste kiss in the lips that holds so much meaning. One of the good things that came out of Elena's death is that my relationship with Ana has grown stronger.
"I trust Ray is doing better?" I query and she smiles brightly.
"Yes, he wanted to see you again but I said you were busy" she replies and I motion for her to sit with me on the couch.
"I will make sure to accompany you tomorrow morning and afternoon, after all I'm his favorite" I comment nonchalantly.
"Well aren't you cocky Mr. Grey" she smirks.
"Nope baby, just stating a fact. He loves his princess but I am pretty sure he enjoys bonding with his future son-in-law" I tease. I know Ana and I just got together but I still manage to drop long-term hints here and there. Life is short – Elena's death is a proof to that.
"Boy you sure are straight to the point" she chuckles nervously. I can tell Ana is still unsure about going beyond our current relationship status. I completely understand but I am dead serious about marrying her and I'll be damned if I don't exert all the patience I have. I can do waiting and wooing.
"Oh and your dad was in the hospital as well" she changes the subject.
"Oh really?" That is strange. Dad hasn't talked to me in a while. I know he was disappointed when I stormed out of the room after hearing Elena's name but I have a feeling there is more. He seems to be avoiding me.
"Yes, he was already talking to dad and Uncle Charlie when I arrived" she explains.
"Uncle Charlie?" I implore. I haven't seen him since we first met. I asked Welch for a background check and he gave me basic information. I almost fired him when he declined my order for a deeper background check but he said that Charlie Grayson is not someone we want to mess with. Not that I care but turns out Mr. Grayson contacted Welch because he discovered our digging.
"Yes, they were talking in hushed voices so I didn't hear their conversation" she sighs and I can tell this is bothering her.
"Ana, can you tell me more about your Uncle Charlie?" I request and she looks at me taken aback.
"I know what you are thinking Christian but I sure as hell don't know how you ended up looking like Uncle Charlie. If not for your age difference, you two could be twins unless…" she pauses.
"Unless?" I push but I already know what she is thinking.
"Unless he is your relative… like you know, your father" Ana murmurs and it is now my turn to sigh.
"I never knew my father and I don't know why I want to know more about your Uncle Charlie. Welch is useless" I confess and she giggles.
"I'm not sure if I will be any better Christian. I know my Uncle Charlie very well but General Charlie is a different story" she informs me. I figure I might regret my next words but I may also regret not knowing something that could answer all the questions currently swirling on my mind so I shifted in our seat and place my head on Ana's lap.
"Very well then tell me about Uncle Charlie"
