Chapter 36: The Long Goodbye

Before I could even get up and run away I was handcuffed by one of the officers, this has happened to me yet again and it was starting to bug me badly. "Well I guess you got more then you bargained for. Now if you so kindly remove these monsters from the permissions, it would be much appreciated." The turquoise monster ordered.

"Right I guess will take them off your hands then..." But before the group of police officers could get on with their night Silva put out his hand in front of them. "The quickest route to the lobby is through these doors which will take you to one of the factory floors called laugh floor D. I fully recommend you go that way." This was a lie, he just wanted us to suffer in front of all our co-workers and the media.

"Well thank you..." One of the officers said before I scrammed out. "Silva lying! He making us go through the scare floor to embarrass us and he's also trying to take over the company too with this fake evidence!" I said calling the floor the wrong name again as the officer gave me an evil look before trying his head towards Silva. "Is this true?" He asked. "Oh please officer..." The officer simply rolled his eyes before replying. "Officer Richardson..." He said impatiently. "Officer Richardson would you trust someone who is Monstropolis most wanted or me a successful entrepreneur who has never broken the law once? You're choice of course."

If you really did some research on Silva you would know he was lying again but the police officer didn't, he signed before agreeing with Silva. "Fine will go through the scare or whatever the hell it's called floor since it's the quickest way to the lobby." There was a loud sign as we were all dragged towards the big blue doors of the new and redesigned laugh floor. Sullivan was annoyed thinking how this could have happened. Wazowski was being the hardest to drag across to point A to B while shouting. "I want my lawyer!" And "I have your badge after this is all over!" While Sanderson was in a frozen like state but at least he wasn't handcuffed like we were.

"I deal with you later Zhang, for now you can witness the embarrassment my enemies are about to face, then you can face yours!" Silva whispered in his ear, I still didn't understand why he didn't he try anything to escape, maybe he fears him like Fungus use to fear me. In fact the red monster had been quite since the arrest. I look behind and he nowhere to be see, did he somehow escape without anyone noticing him? I hoped so until I saw him right behind me. "Sorry sir... I'm I too close to you?" He said as I nodded slowly.

The entrance of the laugh floor opened as we looked at the ongoing party, as soon as one monster spotted us the whole room full of the party going monsters where looking at us. "Oh this can't even be real!" Sullivan said as he gritted his teeth together in angry. Now the TV crews where pointing the cameras at us, it couldn't get more embarrassing. "Look its Randall Boggs! The police got him in the end but... why are there arresting Mike and Sully as well?" One monster asked.

"Nothing to see here. Please continue with the party you were just having." One of the police officers said in a loud tone but it was too late, we were the talk of the town now. "You should have listen to me Sullivan. All of this wouldn't of happen if you had just listen to me!" I said acidly as we walked on through the crowd. "Keep it down Boggs!" Silva said behind me but I was ignoring him. I could see the some police officer keys in my reach in front of me.

I began to walk slower and before anyone noticed I had already grabbed it from the unity belt from the officer and quickly removed the handcuffs. I turned around and attacked the unexpected Silva. He fell down to the floor but I force him back up onto his own two feet and used him as my shied. Monsters around us grasped in horror as there witnessed what was happing in front of them.

"Get back or I'll snap his neck!" Now for once the tables had turn to my favour. I could see how sacred the police officers where so I started to shout out orders again. "Let everyone go. Now!" It wasn't long before the police officers began to remove the handcuffs from Sullivan and Wazowski's hands. "Thank you! Now you're in big trouble Silva tell the truth right away." But he began to laugh. "What truth? The truth that all of you are criminals and you don't even pay your taxes and how you..." I blocked his airways which stop him talking, making it hard for him to breathe.

"Shut it Silva." I said while I noticed Rebecca hadn't been released by Silva guards yet. "Let her go now!" I shouted but the guards didn't do anything. Silva freed his airways from my hands and said. "They...never answer... to you! Never!" I lost my grip on Silva body and he was able to run back to his guards but lucky Rebecca was also able to escape as well. She ran towards me and embraced my arms which caught me and pretty much everyone off guard.

"Don't mind if you'll be my shied Miss Scales?" I whispered to her.

"Of course but don't be too hard on me. I've been through a lot you know." I chuckled at her response.

"Arrest them now!" The turquoise monster shouted.

"He has a hostage. We can't risk her getting harmed." The orange police officer said in scared voice, he hadn't be in this type of situation for a while.

"Their lovers! God how can you be so stupid! Forget it just kill Boggs!" He shouted furious tone of voice. At first I didn't think he was being serious but I could see the guards getting there stun guns out, if more than one would hit me I could die if that was possible. "No!" Rebecca shouted as she threw herself at them. I could hear the sound of electricity being injected into Rebecca body. She fell to the floor, violently shaking on the floor. "Rebecca!" I shouted as I ran towards her.

I grabbed Rebecca's head and body protecting her from hurting herself on the floor. Silva on the other hand was making his escape with his guards but of course there was no attempt by anyone trying to catch them or even him since they were sacred of getting hurt themselves or where to interested watching me instead. Once she stopped shaking on the floor she didn't look at all good, she was in critical condition.

"Are you OK?" I asked but I already knew she wasn't. "I'm... sorry I ever met you... Randall. It because of me you weren't... able to stop him and..." No way was I going to let her take the blame for this. "Don't say that... I've all ways been happy that I met you and I'll wouldn't change the past couple of days if I wanted too! You've changed me for the better and I don't think I'm strong enough to continue being... this version of myself without... you." My voice became weak as I was close to crying but Rebecca just smiled at me. "It wasn't me who made you such a better and much nicer monster... it was you all along. I'm so happy to know you Randall and I'm sorry I ran away from you when I heard you were a criminal." Tears began to run down my eyes for the first time in a year. I had a feeling the next few minutes where going to be bleak, if anything it was going to be a tragedy.

"It doesn't matter. Once you're out of hospital and when I'm out of hiding or... prison we can start a life together! We can go dating and if I'm in a healthy state of mind we could get married and have kids when I'm able to cope with the past and..." But she closed my mouth with her hand. "I don't think I can make it Randall and I don't have enough time to talk much longer so I'm going just going to say it now... I love you Randall Boggs and no matter what happens to me I will always be with you at your side and in your heart, following you everywhere you go. Could you give me one last joy?" She asked as I could tell she was feeling tired from the never ending she was experiencing.

"What is it?" I asked in a weak voice, every passing second felt like an hour as I waited for the reply. "I want you to kiss me for the first but for the last time..." The request wasn't a surprise but the way she put it took me the hardest, 'one last time'. I tried to put a brave face on and smiled but I don't think Rebecca brought it. "Sure but I'm rusty since you are my first... but it won't be the last time. I promise..."

I bent closer to her and slowly moved my head towards hers, my lisps made contact with her lisps and we kissed. For ten seconds I lifted my head to see her smiling. "Thank you Randall, for everything!" Her weak voice soon remained silent and her eyes slowly closed, she laid in my arms in a peaceful state. I began to panic, was she starting to fall asleep or did she just die? "Rebecca... Rebecca? Rebecca! You can't just die. Please wake up, wake up!" But I had realised she wasn't going to wake up anymore, she was gone, well that's what I thought from the looks of it. I hugged her closely to my chest and started to cry even more, I thought I felt her heart beating but that could mistakenly be mine.

"Randall... I'm so sorry." Sullivan said in a caring voice as he bent down to touch my shoulder in a caring way almost like we were friends. I finally laid Rebecca body gently on the floor, got up and removed the tears from my eyes. "Randall...?" Sanderson asked. "Where did Silva go?" I asked, my voice sounded cold and old almost as if all my youth and new born innocents had been sucked out of me yet again, just as Sullivan did to me in the scare games but much worse.

"Silva's making his way to the lobby. I think he's going back to his office before he gets his private place out of the city. That was his plan B if anything was to go wrong tonight." Zhang said to me in a sad voice. "Well I'm going after him and he's going to pay with his life!" I began to make my way past the stunned crowd until one of the police officers wanted to speak to me.

"You're not going anywhere Boggs! You are under arrest for..." I grabbed hold of his shirt and said. "You want to arrest me, go ahead but you'll find yourself in a hospital bed drinking your food through a straw if you even try too! Do I make myself clear?" I roared at him. "C...clear as day. I guess you'll be on... your way then." I let go off him and began to run towards the lobby. The police officer turned around to see his co-workers shocked and speechless.

"Why the hell did you lot do nothing to arrest him? He could have killed me!" the police officer shouted. "Well boss, you seemed to have things pretty much covered from this angle." The orange two horned monster said. The monster threw his hat on the floor in anger at himself for being a coward and mostly at his team that didn't even attempted to help him arrest me or save one of they own co-workers.

I knew I didn't have much time but I had to catch Ethan Silva dead or alive, but I wouldn't be surprised if I did kill him. Like a dog chasing a car I really didn't know what I was going to do with him until I catched Silva. As I used my four legs to crawl as fast as I could I realised he still had the hard drive that could put Sullivan away for a long time. So my real first job was to have the hard drive in my safety before I deal with Silva. If I didn't help Sullivan then he wouldn't be able to help me get my life back but one thing to keep in mind was the SD containing Jeff's confusion card was in safe hands.

"Hey it's him! Stop Boggs at all costs." Shouted the guards that where left behind to deal with me but I was too fast to catch. I jump to the side of wall and past the four guards who tried to catch me. "Dam it he's too fast! Will never get him!" Shouted another guard. The cries of the guards faded and soon I was at the lobby of Monsters Incorporated. The world map was still lit in the back light behind the map and the reception desk still had the lights on but no one was guarding the desk. I rushed to the door to first see if I could open them without any problems, luck was on my side once again as Silva must of forgotten to tell his guards to close the doors just in case I wasn't stopped by the police or his own employees.

I pulled the door towards me and rushed past the police track. I could see the police car that I had stolen was still there and thanks to not locking the door I threw myself in the car, closed the door, twisted the key which activated the police computer and started the car up. Nathan the cop I had tricked in letting me go at the beginning of the evening appeared on the computer screen again which left me to wonder had anyone found him yet, was he still trapped in that locker tied up and all alone? I didn't have long to think about it anyway since I had other matters to deal with then to care for some cocky cop, I turned the sirens on and started to make my way to Silva's skyscraper. I was still in shock from the last past thirty minutes I had just been through, was she really dead? This whole day felt like a never ending nightmare.
