It's been forever, I know, but in honor of Ariadne's birthday today I figured I'd post.

"Ariadne, get the door please!" Lily called as she heard the doorbell ring a second time.

"But Muuuum!" Ariadne's whine came from the kitchen.

"NOW!" Lily called down the stairs.

She faintly heard Ariadne pushing a chair back and then heard her daughter's footsteps. Satisfied that Ariadne was following her directions, Lily went back to her bedroom and continued to get ready for her date. She and Mark were going out on another date and she was trying to get ready.

"Mum, Mark's here!" Ariadne's voice called up the stairs.

"I'll be down in a minute!" Lily called, she could hear Ariadne and Mark's voices, but couldn't make out what they were saying. She smiled at the thought that her daughter and boyfriend getting along. She had expected they would, but it was nice to know she'd been right.

The doorbell rang again and soon after, Ariadne bounded up the stairs, "Mum, can Lucy spend the night?"

"I don't see why not." Lily said, she double checked her make up and turned to her daughter. "As long as Tabitha doesn't mind watching her."

"We already asked, she's okay with it." Ariadne said. "Could you do the charm to make my bed bigger so Lucy and I can share and not kick each other all night?"

"Sure." Lily said, as she walked from her bedroom to Ariadne's she passed the stairwell, and heard Mark downstairs.

"Lily let's go."

"I'll be down in a minute." Lily told him, "I've gotta do something for Ariadne first."

"We'll be late." He sounded annoyed, and Lily stopped.

"This will take just a minute." She quickly waved her wand and Ariadne's bed doubled in size. Then she made her way downstairs, Mark looked impressed as she descended the stairs.

"You were worth the extra minute." Mark's voice was quiet, and the look in his eyes soft as he looked Lily up and down.

Lily tried not to flush but she could feel her cheeks heating up. She didn't normally get speechless at compliments, but it had been so long since a man had complimented her so genuinely. "Let's go, we don't want to be late." she said, she quickly kissed both Ariadne and Lucy before leaving.

Dear Ariadne,

Don't tell Mum, but I was in a wizard's duel! Okay, it wasn't a proper duel, but it was real enough to count. One of the guys in Slytherin has been teasing and taunting me since we got to Hogwarts. I managed to ignore it for a while, but the other day he teased me too much and I kinda maybe might have challenged him to a wizards duel. He didn't win though, and he's left me alone since we had the duel.

I have to work on my Astronomy homework, just thought I'd tell you a little about Hogwarts.

Harry.

"Are you done with your letter?" Ron asked as Harry put his letter into his school bag.

"Yeah, Mum's been on my case about writing to Ariadne." Harry said, "so I told her we won the wizards duel we had with Malfoy last month."

"Considering he never showed up, we won by default." Ron reminded him.

"I know." Harry pulled out his Astronomy notes. "But I embellished it a bit, to make it sound more cool. Just to tease her about the fact that she isn't coming to Hogwarts until we're in third year."

Ron grinned, "I should do that to Ginny."

Susan rolled her eyes and pulled out a piece of parchment, it had her to do list on it and she quickly wrote "write letter to Ariadne Potter." Before slipping it back into her bag.

She too pulled out her Astronomy notes and the group got to work.

Hours later, Susan pulled a blank piece of parchment out of her bag, sat down at a table in her common room and began to write.

Dear Ariadne

My name is Susan Bones, I'm one of Harry's friends at Hogwarts...

"Wake up Mum!" Ariadne cried, bouncing on Lily's bed, "Wake up! Harry's Quidditch game is today!"

Lily sat up. "I'm up," she said groggily. "I'm up."

Ariadne bounced away "I'm going to go set up for breakfast." She said, running out to the kitchen.

Lily got up and put a robe on; she went out to the kitchen where Ariadne had set everything up for breakfast, "How about we just have cereal this morning?" she suggested.

Ariadne glanced at Lily "Are you alright Mum?" she asked.

Lily nodded "I'm just a bit tired, that's all," she said. She couldn't figure out why she was so tired. She hadn't been out that late the night before, had she? She'd gone to a muggle movie with Mark but had been home before Ariadne and Lucy had gone to bed. Why was she so tired?

Ariadne nodded "Okay" she said, "How are we getting to Hogwarts again?" she asked, bouncing on the balls of her feet.

"I'm going to Apparate us to Hogsmead and then we will be taking a carriage up to the castle." Lily said.

Ariadne grinned, "Are they the same carriages you took to get to school Mummy?" she asked.

"I'm not sure honey, we'll see." Lily said. She quickly fixed herself some cereal and pushed a bowl and the box of cereal over to Ariadne. Ariadne poured herself a bowl and started to eat.

Ariadne soon finished her breakfast and after putting the dishes in the sink, she ran to her room to put on her outfit for today. She came out 20 minutes later wearing a gold t-shirt and the Gryffindor scarf Harry had managed to find for her, he'd sent it a few days earlier with a note attached:

I know you're not a Gryffindor yet Ariadne, but I thought you'd like this anyway.

Harry

Lily quickly hurried into her room and got dressed. She put on her robes and her own Gryffindor scarf and hat. Nearly an hour later they were at the front gates of the castle, a carriage stood ready and waiting for them. By the time they got out to the Quidditch Pitch, Ariadne was nearly bursting with excitement. "I can't wait to see Harry." She babbled to anyone who would listen.

Professor Dumbledore had reserved two seats for them in the teacher's box, and as chance would have it, Ariadne sat next to Severus.

"Uncle Sev?" Ariadne asked.

"Yes?"

"Harry said he has to do remedial potions with you, he's not really that bad at potions is he?"

"He has gotten better at potions since he started the classes." Severus said carefully, it wouldn't do for Ariadne to know he and Harry were getting friendly. He didn't want to lie to his god-daughter, but he also didn't want this knowledge to get out to many people. Ariadne tended to talk a lot. Who knew who would over hear her?

A cheer rang from the Gryffindor side of the Pitch. Ariadne cheered a bit late before turning back to her Godfather. "But Mum has taught us about Potions. Harry can't be that bad, to need the remedial classes. Especially this early in the year, I've read his books, it doesn't get that hard in first year."

"Ariadne, Professor Snape is Harry's teacher, he knows more about the situation then you do." Lily spoke up, she'd overheard Ariadne's last comment and spoke up now. She smiled at Severus over Ariadne's head. He smiled back before turning to Ariadne. "How did you remember what is in Harry's books?" He asked. "He brought them to Hogwarts with him, the last time you would have seen them would have been over the summer."

Ariadne shook her head, "No, I wanted to read them, but Harry didn't want me to touch them. So I got my Uncle Moony to make copies of them when Harry wasn't looking and I've been reading them."

One of Uncle Severus' eye brow's rose. "That's very cunning, Ariadne."

The girl grinned. "I know." Ariadne turned back to the game and after watching another few minutes of it, decided that she wanted to play Quidditch when she attended Hogwarts. It looked like fun. She turned to Uncle Sev to say so, but before she could say anything, she felt suddenly odd, almost as if she was falling out of mid-air she took a breath and tried to calm down. She glanced up and saw what had happened. Harry was hanging onto his broom by one hand; he was struggling to stay on.

"Harry!" Ariadne screamed, her scream caught the attention of many of the teachers, and they all followed Ariadne's gaze to where Harry was now losing his grip on his broomstick. Ariadne turned to Lily "Mum…" she started before seeing that her mother and Professor Snape were doing a counter curse.

They both chanted the Latin counter-curse, again and again they chanted it, but it didn't seem to help. Ariadne started looking around, there had to be someone who was saying the curse that was making Harry fall off his broom. Harry's Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher was muttering something and Ariadne quietly walked up to listen to what he was saying. The teacher was muttering in Latin but Ariadne could understand the basics.

While it wasn't exact, the root words were somewhat similar to the French language and she also knew enough spells that she could make out much of what he was saying "Permissum puer cado, planto puer immergite ut orbis terrarum, planto him cado ut suus nex." She quickly translated what she could, in her head. She didn't even think, and with an unintelligible roar, she threw herself at him.

"Ariadne!" McGonagall shouted. She abandoned her post at the microphone to gather the nine-year-old from the top of one of her colleague's body. Lily tore her eyes from her son long enough to see that Ariadne was on top of Professor Quirrell, and she too leaped up to help Professor McGonagall together they managed to pry Ariadne from Professor Quirrell's arms.

By the time they got Ariadne off of Professor Quirrell, Harry was already back on his broom and flying down towards the earth. Lily held her breath and waited, she knew Harry was talented on a broomstick but it still worried her to see her son flying so fast. He landed on the ground and it suddenly looked like he was about to throw up.

Then he was holding the snitch up "I caught the Snitch!" Ariadne could tell he was saying, she jumped up and down cheering as all of Gryffindor House cheered with her.

She ran down to the Quidditch Pitch and nearly leaped into Harry's arms as she kept screaming "You did it! You did it! You did it!"
