Chapter 35: What I've Done

James's POV~

The euphoria ended once I finished the last person in the bar, that's when my eyes truly opened. My widened eyes trailed across the building of death as my mind clawed back to the forefront. I swallowed hard with guilt and grief as I looked at the blood splattered walls and bodies that covered the floor.

"What have I done?" I whispered to myself in shame.

I suddenly began to hear a racing heartbeat, there was life here, and I hoped it wasn't just a mouse. I followed the sound to behind the bar where Myeline had curled up and shook with terror. As I slowly knelt down her heart continued to echo in my mind. She gripped tight at her arms as she kept her eyes down. I smelt her blood from the bite in her neck.

"Let me heal you…" I went to put my arms out but she screamed "I won't hurt you"

"You did!" She whimpered as she grimaced in pain

"Listen to me…let me heal you and get you out of here" I looked straight into her eyes hoping she'd trust me, the sane me.

"How?" Her lip quivered as I sat beside her. I sighed before biting into my wrist and lifting it up to her mouth. "What?!"

"You want to survive then you have to drink my blood" I shrugged and watched as the bite heal.

"Won't I become a vampire?" She raised her eyebrows; I chuckled slightly and shook my head.

"Unless you decide to kill yourself whilst it's in your system" I saw her hesitate for a moment before reluctantly nodding. "Excellent" I bit into my wrist again and let her drink, once her neck healed she spluttered with disgust.

"What's it like being a vampire?" She asked cautiously, I rested my head back and sighed.

"Crap" I smiled "You really want to have this conversation here?" I raised an eyebrow as she then looked around the room.

"Can we leave?" I nodded and jumped up onto my feet before helping her up. "What are you going to do with them?" She looked away from the bodies. I leant over the bar and grabbed a bottle of vodka before spilling it across the table.

"Here's a deal Myeline, if you help me empty all the bottles or whatever flammable things you can find then I'll make you forget all of this so you can live your life" She didn't reply but just grabbed another bottle and dropped it to the floor. "I guess we have a deal then" I smirked.

Jane's POV~

Suddenly Kol was thrown away from me and I was pushed into the car, my back clicking against the metal. My eyes locked with Stefan's, after a moment I realized who it was…

"Silas…." I muttered he smiled in reply. He then grimaced in pain as I saw wood protrude from his stomach, he stumbled back revealing Kol.

"Jane run!" He shouted before throwing his fists into Silas, I ran for my life, but a part of me wanted to stay with Kol but I knew what was better.

As I got further away I froze at Kol's screams, I felt my heart shatter into a million pieces as I feared the worst. And then I couldn't stop the tears from falling.

I reached a small petrol station when I'd run out of breath, I gasped and grumbled as the cold air burned my lungs. My cheeks were sodden with tears and the cold breeze froze me. I leant into the wall and cried as I thought of what was happening to Kol.

"Are you alright Miss?" A middle aged man touched my shoulder reassuringly; I took a deep breath and looked up before screaming. A blade stuck from his chest before he fell to the ground, I screamed out and tried to run again, but I was being held. I looked up at Silas's smug face before scowling. Without him noticing I grabbed a metal bar a whacked him around the head, as he became dazed I began to run again and dived down.

I held my vervain necklace tight against my chest as I hid behind a car, I was petrified. I covered my mouth to mask my rapid breaths but it was pointless, he'd hear my racing human heart. I hated being the helpless human that I was; no matter how much I wanted to fight back it was useless, I just had to wait for someone to save me.

What was his problem with me anyway? What had I done to him? Or was it just a classic 'because of who my friends were' scenario. I leant back against the cold metal and tried to think of a way out of this…but there was no use. How could I outwit a 2000 year old immortal? But one thing I did know, I was more determined.

A final deep breath and I was running again, I had to get away from here. I didn't even know if vampire facts applied to him…could he still enter uninvited? I glanced behind me…

"Hello Jane" He whispered as I screamed.

He grabbed hold of me and covered my mouth with his hand. Rage engulfed me as I tried to fight back; I bit down hard on his palm before elbowing him in the stomach. Before I could run again he grabbed hold of my scalp, I whimpered and closed my eyes.

"You do make things difficult Jane…" He sighed.

"What do you want from me?" I almost whispered

"I don't want anything from you…" He smirked "I just want you to get me something I want" I darted my eyes away from him "And you know what it is"

"I don't know where it is!" I begged but he just chuckled

"That's why I need you…you're the bargain" He loosened his grip "If I don't get the cure, you're dead"
