Chapter 36

As quickly as the Zeo Rangers were created, they fell. The Rangers were getting older, and the enemies were getting stronger.

"Zordon, we can't keep this up," Adam said.

"We're all moving on," Rocky added.

"Kim and I moved. Adam is going with Aisha," Tommy replied.

"We understand," Alpha said.

They all hugged the little robot.

"It was a pleasure working with you," Adam said, looking up at Zordon.

"You, too, Adam. All of you," Zordon replied.

"We need replacements," Aisha said.

"I think I know where to look," Kat told them.

They already had an idea of who they wanted. Kim and Sydney joined the group at the youth center where most of the High School students hung out.

"I haven't been here in ages," Kim said.

Tommy then found the person he was looking for. These teenagers they were looking for had shown what they were made of when the city had been attacked the previous week. They had revealed themselves to them, and promised not to tell anyone.

"TJ," he called.

"Hey, Tommy," he replied.

"Is Cassie here?" Kim asked.

"Yeah. She's getting drinks with Ashley," TJ said, pointing to the front counter. She and Kat headed that way.

"And Carlos?" Tommy asked.

"Adam's talking to him," Aisha said, walking up to the group with the rest of the girls.

"There's Justin," Billy said, pointing to a boy who was much younger than the rest.

Soon the five would become the Turbo Rangers.

Tommy looked around the living room as if for the first time. Even after a year, he caught himself glancing down at his wrist and realizing there was no communicator anymore.

"This is weird," Tommy said.

"Now you know how I felt," Kim replied as she walked up to him.

She laughed as Tommy pulled out a book from his bag.

"I'll be calling you Dr. Oliver here soon," Kim said.

Tommy could hardly believe it himself that he was getting his PhD.

"How's the Cyber café gig going?" Tommy asked.

"Good. Hayley's great," Kim said.

She had been singing at the café.

"Don't know what she's thinking," Tommy said with a laugh as he shook his head. "She's got a degree from MIT."

Kim went to check on Sydney when the phone rang.

"Hello?" Tommy asked.

He was hanging up the phone when Kim walked back into the room. His good mood seemed to be gone.

"Tommy?" Kim asked, seeing the look on his face.

"That was Jason. The Red Space Ranger, Andros, needs my help," he told her.

"One last time?" Kim asked.

"One last time," Tommy said.

Kim smiled and wrapped her arms around Tommy when he finally returned home almost a week later.

"Tommy," she squealed.

"Hey," he said.

"How was it?" Kim asked.

"Saved the world," Tommy told her.

"Like there was any doubt," Kim replied.

They got ready and went to the cyber café. A man walked up to them after they had ordered their drinks.

"Excuse me," he said.

"Yes?" Tommy asked.

When Tommy turned, it was like looking in a mirror.

"I'm David Truehart," the man said.

"Hello," Tommy and Kim replied.

"You might want to sit," David suggested.

They grabbed their drink and headed to a table.

"You look a lot like Tommy," Kim said.

He nodded to Kim and looked Tommy straight in the eyes.

"That's because I'm your brother," David told Tommy.

"I knew I was adopted. But a brother?" Tommy asked.

This was a lot to take in.

"They didn't know about me, so don't blame them," David said.

Tommy shook his head.

"No, I don't," he said.

David looked over Sydney.

"Your daughter?" he asked.

"Yes," Kim nodded. And then she realized. "Your niece."

"Do you have any kids?" Tommy asked.

"No," David answered.

There was a moment of silence.

"This is…" Kim started to say.

"Strange, I know," David said.

"Are you staying here?" Tommy asked.

"No. I was actually sent here to give you something," David said.

He placed a bag on the table. Inside was three gems. One red, one blue, and one yellow.

"What are they?" Tommy asked.

"Gems with extraordinary powers," David told him.

"You don't mean…" Kim began, but she could not finish.

"You'll know what to do when the time comes," David said.

And with that, he got up and left.

Kim walked into the basement where Tommy was looking over the gems.

"Tommy, you've been working on those gems for months now," she said.

"I'm taking them with me to Mercer's Island," he told her.

Tommy was spending his last term helping the scientist, Anton Mercer.

"I have a bad feeling about you going," Kim said.

"Nothing's going to happen," Tommy told her. He gave a reassuring kiss before Kim headed back upstairs. When Tommy touched the gems this time as he was pointing them away, it was as if he was being pulled into the future. In it he saw a girl in yellow playing a guitar, a boy in red playing soccer, and a boy in blue on a computer. "I'll know what all this means soon."
