I had a guest ask me how I chose the names like Jax and Nicola...Choosing names for me is about as serious as a pregnant mother must feel when choosing what to name her first child. It's a big deal, the name of a character is such a big deal. I chose Nicola's name, because 1) it means victory, I liked that since Nicola even being alive despite the odds was well, a victory. I also needed a name that sounded more Abnegation and traditional, but could have a nickname more Dauntless like Beatrice went to Tris. So Nicola fit perfectly! Jax's name...I am going to be honest, I just ADORE that name. It doesn't have a real meaning, since it's a short version of Jaxson (ANOTHER NAME I LOVE) which comes form Jackson which means 'son of Jack.' So just like a mother chooses a name for it's meaning or purely because she loves it, those are my reasons. I hope that answered your question.
Okay, here is Chapter 35...It's more Tobias and Nikki and Uriah and Willow bonding...
Chapter 35
Nicola POV
I feel my head bob forward and open my eyes. I fell asleep in the rocking chair...again. I groan from the stiffness in my neck and back. A quiet chuckle forces me to look at the doorway.
Daddy keeps a grin on his face, "you must be sore."
"I am, Daddy. How's Shauna?"
"Asleep like your mother."
"How is their daughter?"
Daddy laughs, "Zeke is already spoiling her, they named her Lynn."
I nod, "that's sweet. I''m going to go and ask Christina to walk on my back or something."
Daddy extends his arm to me, "why don't we go out to eat for dinner?"
"Sure. Where does Mom want to go?"
"Nope, no Mom. It's our time to spend the day together, father and daughter...I had a question, though."
"Okay, what is it?"
"Would you mind if Uriah and Willow tagged along? He is really trying to get closer to her and I think that spending time with another father and daughter pair would help them."
"That would be fun." I turn to the crib, "who is watching Noah while we're gone?"
"your Aunt Scarlett volunteered to take this shift. She was just waiting until you were up and out of the room, she likes the time alone. She is having a hard time integrating back into society."
I walk down the hall, slightly panicked at the thought of not watching Noah. Daddy smiles at me, "get dressed in something nice, we are going out to eat in an upscale restaurant, okay?"
"Alright," I walk to my room and change into a bright blue dress, Jax bought it with me, he said it matched my eyes. I walk down the hall, "ready to go?"
Daddy spins in a circle, "how do I look?"
"You clean up nice, Daddy." He smiles and adjusts the white collared shirt. I follow him to the car, he walks to the passengers side, "Daddy, what are you doing?"
"I heard about your Mom trying to teach you how to drive, I figure that you and I could go down the street a few times and then go to Willow's to pick her and Uriah up."
"Really? You're going to let my drive the car?"
"Yes, I will teach you, as you go, it's simple."
I climb into the drivers seat, and put the key in the ignition.
"Nikki, press that pedal right there, really lightly."
"I can't."
"Why not?"
"I'm too short."
Daddy laughs and slides the chair forward, "okay, press down lightly on the pedal."
I move my foot and fly forward, my foot finds the brake and I slam on them. Daddy laughs, "okay, just go slow, and be calm and comfortable."
I take a breath, I can do this, I press my foot down and crawl along the road, "Daddy, there is a turn coming up here, what do I do?"
"Turn, not to much, it doesn't take a lot."
I move my hands to the right and feel the car angle into a turn, "like that?"
"Good job, now make a u-turn. Then we will drive down the street a few more times, take your time."
"So how do I u-turn?"
"It's simple, here," he leans over and sets his hands next to mine and helps me turn the car.
"I did it!"
"Technically, we did, but I will allow you take the blame. Now go back up the street and we will do this a few more times."
I try to keep a serious, straight face, but it's nearly impossible to wipe this grin off my face.
Uriah moves slowly, even with his cane, he doesn't pick up much speed. Willow takes his arm and helps him walk down the stairs, I turn the engine off, both Daddy and I with windblown hair. After my second lap on the street, I hit the gas and drove us to Willow's picking up speed on the almost deserted streets.
"Hey, Willow! I'm driving!"
"Glad to see that you made it here alive." She opens the door and helps Uriah inside. Daddy turns to him, "hey, Uriah, how do you feel?"
"Better, but don't let this cane fool you, I can still beat you up, Four."
I laugh, "Uriah beat you up?"
Daddy shakes his head, "no. He just likes to pretend he did."
I look in the rear-view mirror, "is everyone buckled in?" After a murmur of yes, I speed ahead, taking Daddy's direction to the restaurant. I slam on the brakes, and pull into the lot.
Daddy smiles, "that was a good first run. I think I will drive home."
Uriah laughs, "thank you for sparring my life."
"I wasn't that bad."
Willow slides out the car, "tell that to my whiplash."
"Okay, I think it was pretty good considering, it was only my second time."
Uriah smirks, "I would have hated to see your first."
I pout, Daddy puts his arm around me, "let's get some dinner."
The waiter shows us to our reserved table and I stare at the menu, "Daddy, I am starved."
"Really? I can't tell."
I roll my eyes, "I want the biggest cheeseburger they have."
"We are at a high-end restaurant why don't we get something more upscale?" Willow asks me.
"Fine."
Uriah looks at Willow and I, "so Willow, hasn't told me much about her boyfriend, I've met him a few times, but I was to weak at the time to properly intimidate him."
"Cam's a good kid, Uriah," Daddy smiles.
Uriah looks at him, "pansycake."
"Willow, how have things been with your dad here?"
"Fun, he will pull me out of school early, just because he knows I have math at the end of the day and I hate it."
"Did you hear that, Daddy. Uriah takes Willow out of school, sometimes for FUN."
"Nice try, Nikki." Daddy laughs.
Uriah sighs, "how is Tris and the baby?"
I smile, "my baby brother is adorable, he is the absolute cutest thing ever. He likes to chew on his fist and he giggles whenever I make faces."
"You want a baby brother, Willow?" Uriah asks taking a sip from his water.
Willow scowls, "ew, I don't want to think about that."
I laugh and take a bite of the roll in my hand. It's so nice to see Uriah and Willow together, above all it's nice to know that Daddy and I are back to normal. For the first time since Mom came back and now since Noah was born, it seems like things are just right. I still need answers to many questions regarding how my life has come to this point, but for the moment, I push those aside. I will start snooping around later, since I know that someone has had something to do with everything that has happened in this past year. There are too many coincidences between the people I thought were dead being alive and finding Uriah. Something is missing, and it's just piece of the puzzle missing from the picture. Maybe I already have the puzzle piece and I am not turning it to fit. I chew on my straw, considering what I am missing, I know there is something, I just can't put my finger on what it is.
Daddy looks at me, "you alright?"
"Yeah, I'm fine, just thinking."
"About?"
I smile and shake my head, "nothing, important."
I climb into bed, feeling not only happy but confused and curious. Things are going so well, I'm almost afraid to dig deeper to find out what is going on.
But I need answers, that is obvious. I need to know who saved my Mom and led her to us, who helped Marlene out, who warned us to leave Chicago. I should thank them, honestly.
I pull the sheets over my shoulder, trying to concentrate on what it was that could be the link I can't seem to find. Mom doesn't know anything, she seems to have gotten out without much help, but someone made sure she found the contact information needed to find us.
And Marlene, says a former Amity turned Erudite nurse helped her out, that didn't just happen by chance.
Uriah, was my own doing, but even still he was supposed to be dead.
I shake my head, a headache beginning to bleed into my skull, I have to know who helped do this.
Daddy? No, he would have acted on it. So would, Zeke or Christina. Shauna can''t do any of the physical work required to help them and would have told me she knew about it and would have tried to help them out.
I close my eyes, determined to speak with everyone all over again, to receive some answers. I will start tomorrow, start with Mom and find out exactly what happened, then Marlene, then Uriah. See if there is a common thread connecting each of them. There has to be.
I don't believe in coincidence. I don't believe in fate or just pure luck. I also don't believe that someone was just selfless enough to risk themselves to help those three.
I believe that people are selfish and do things for their own reasons and that is what makes the world go round.
I know it isn't that great, its a filler chapter and its unedited. I'm sorry, really I am. I'm 16 I should be writing much better than this, I sincerely apologize and promise a much stronger chapter for ALL my stories next week, just bare with me. I had massive writers block.
