Thank you all so much for your continued support and time. It means so much to me! I really can't thank you enough :) You guys are awesome!
And now, the beginning stages of what we've all been waiting for. Enjoy ^_^
Marie shifted in her bed and shuddered, making small noises of discomfort. She turned to her other side and shut her tightly as her dreams tormented her. "Wh- ... Wha.. No... I can't," she mumbled in her sleep.
Marie ran down a dark hallway, feeling a mild wind chasing after her, chilling her skin. She didn't know how she got there, how long she had been running or what she was even running from, she just knew she had to find a way out. Something was after her, she could feel its menacing eyes boring into her soul. Every instinct in her body was screaming at her to get away, and she was trusting those instincts full heartedly.
Tears rolled down her cheeks as she tried to keep her breathing steady. "Just keep running..." She panted to herself. "You'll find a way out eventually."
"Oh will you?" a very familiar voice asked from the shadows in front of her. Marie stopped dead in her tracks, almost tripping. She quickly gained her balance and breathed heavily, eye wide as she stared into the darkness.
"Wh- Who's there?" she called, taking a small step back.
A low chuckle slithered its way out of the shadows and burrowed into her ears. She knew that laugh... If only the anonymous light above her could somehow move so it would shine on what was in the shadows.
"You know exactly who I am," the voice said.
"No... No, I d- don't."
"Yes, you do, Marie. Don't try to deny it." The voice was right... She knew it all too well, that smooth, monotone demeanor.
"I know who you are... But I know you are not him," Marie stated as she picked her chin up. She was terrified and she hated it. She wanted to feel more powerful.
A tall, slender man stepped out of the shadows. "What are you talking about? It's me, Franken."
"Franken would never refer to himself by that name," she growled.
"Hmm... Maybe I'm just trying something new. You know how I love to experiment." The corner of his lip twitched up in a ghost of a smile.
"No. You are
not Franken."
Stein took several slow steps to her. He finally stopped when he was only about a foot away from the small blond, looking down at her. "I am the real Stein. I am the one-"
"No!" Marie cut him off. "You are not him!"
He grabbed the sides of her shoulders and pulled her into him, lowering his head so their faces were deathly close. "Marie... Just shut up and listen to me. The man that you know isn't even a man; he's an
animal. Save yourself from all of the pain and torment of trying to rescue someone who is already gone."
"But... He's not gone... He is still sane, I know it. I talk to him every day... I- I love him," Marie's eye was wide with fear. 'He has to be sane... He has to be.'
Stein chuckled. "Marie, you're still as optimistic as ever, aren't you? Haven't you ever considered that the madness is playing you? That this entire time, you really were only dealing with a mad man? His insanity has been
allowing him to hold on to his conscious. You're just another pawn in its game, nothing more."
"No... You're wrong..." Marie closed her eye as a few tears rolled down her cheeks.
"Am I, Marie? Am I? Or are you the one who has been wrong this entire time?" She only tilted her head down and shook her head. "Ah, see? You don't even have a way to counter that. Now... Here's a little suggestion for you." Stein lifted her chin with his middle and index fingers, and Marie opened her eye which immediately made contact with his left olive green eye. "You already have black blood in you... Embrace it."
"What?"
"Let the black blood take over, Marie. It will be so simple... This entire time, you've been crushing it without even knowing it. Your will power to constantly fight and carry on is so strong, you haven't even noticed the blood trying to claw its way to your head. But you can easily change that..." His voice was so low and soft, it was even somewhat soothing.
"Why would I want to do that?"
"For a few reasons, actually. One, you'll have an easier life. You won't feel pain or guilt, hatred or sorrow. Everything will be so happy, you'll always have a reason to laugh and smile. Two, you won't feel defeated in the end."
'Defeated? "What are you talking about? Why would I feel defeated?" Worry and even more fear laced through her voice.
"You're broken now, Marie. All you feel is utter sadness while you wander alone in your dark sorrows. You constantly search for a light, but you never find one and it only makes you feel worse. Just give in, and you won't feel let down anymore." His voice... It was so soothing, so convincing. For a moment, all Marie could do was nod and follow along.
"Yeah... Yeah... Maybe you're right..." she said slowly. 'He's right... If I just give in...' Marie shook her head and pushed him off of her. "No. I know what you're trying to do."
"What's that?" Stein placed his hands in his lab coat pockets.
"You're trying to make it seem like something nice so I'll want it. But I don't want it. Not now, not ever." Although she was still afraid, she held a firm voice.
"Are you sure about that?" he smiled and continued when she nodded. "Alright... Tell me what your opinion of the matter is after you see this."
Marie frowned a bit in curiousity. "See what...?"
"Just wait. You'll see," he giggled right before he snapped her neck.
Then it all went black...
Marie jumped awake, finding Nygus leaning over and shaking her shoulders. "Nygus?"
"Thank Death... I was worried you were going to fall into a night terror," Nygus sighed in relief as she sat down on Marie's bed.
"Wh- what?" the Death Scythe asked in a very confused tone as she sat up and looked around her room.
"I was dozing off in your office chair and I heard you saying things in your sleep, and I couldn't get you to wake up... God, Marie, you're shaking," she said sadly as she pulled her friend into a hug. Marie rested her head on her chest, savoring the brief moment of comfort she felt.
"What time is it?" Marie asked tiredly.
Nygus glanced at the clock on the bedside table. "It's almost 8 a.m. So... You want to tell me what happened in your dream?"
Images of her dream flashed through her mind. She could feel her fear again, the same fear she felt when she was running down the hallway.
"Marie? Do you remember it?" Nygus asked.
"N- no... No, I don't remember it." Why did I lie...?
"Marie," the knife said as she gently put her hands on Marie's arms and pulled out of the hug, "that didn't sound very convincing."
The Death Scythe could only look down at her hands. "I know... I'm sorry. I just-" she sighed and let her eyelid lower slightly, "I just don't want to talk about it."
"Oh... I understand. If you want to tell me about it later, I'll be all ears," Nygus said soflty.
"Thank you, Nygus..." Marie smiled sadly at her friend. "Um, no offense, but what are you still doing here?"
"I promised you I wouldn't leave," Nygus smiled slightly.
"Nygus, I'm fine. You don't have to-"
"Like hell I don't," she intervened in a firm tone. "You are my friend and you are hurting. I promised you I'd stay with you, so that's precisely what I'm going to do."
"A- alright... But you can't stay here forever... Plus I'll need time on my own to cope."
"I know. I'll give you your time in a day or two. But for now, I am going to sit here with you and do whatever I can to make you feel better," Nygus smiled, earning a genuine smile back.
"Ok then. So what exactly are we going to?" I can do this... If I just let myself forget, I can be happy... Somehow.
"I think the best thing we can do now is get your mind off of things. My favorite way of doing that is-"
"Nygus, I'm sorry, but I don't think going online and searching 'hot, shirtless boys' will make me feel better..." Marie trailed off.
"Hey," the weapon lightly slapped her friend's arm, "I know. This isn't like when what's-his-name broke up with you when we were students at the academy. This is... Bigger. But that doesn't mean we can't get you through this."
Marie smiled slightly at her friend. "I know... So then what are we going to do if we're not going to search for hot boys on Google images?"
"Marie Mjolnir, we are two sophisticated women. We will not sit around all day and drool over boys on Stein's computer... We're gonna drool over men on Stein's computer." Both of the women's lips pulled into huge smilles as they laughed. Maybe this won't be so hard after all.
"And we'll eat SweeTart Gummies and-"
"A lot of chocolate," they said simultaneously. The two friends immediately began laughing again.
"Oh, Nygus," the blond giggled, "you really are good at cheering people up, you know that?"
"Yeah," she nodded. "I kind of have living proof. Now what are we waiting for? Those gummies and chocolate are not going to just show up."
"Well, we could call Spirit and ask him to pick some up. I don't really feel like going anywhere, to be honest..." Marie's smile faded as tons of memories poured back into her mind.
They're dead... They're gone...
"Hey, hey, Marie?" Nygus waved her hand in front of the Death Scythe, pulling her out of her trance. "Focus on now, alright? Just try to focus on what's going on now."
"S- sorry..." Marie's single eye drifted around the room slowly, looking for something to actually focus on.
"Come on, girly," the weapon grabbed her friend's hand and stood from the bed, pulling her along with her. "Let's get to that computer. The guys are waiting." Marie smiled at her friend's interesting imagination.
Several moments after they had made their way to the living room and Nygus called Spirit to deliver their goods, the two women were sitting in Stein's office chair, giggling at the screen.
"Ooo, look at him!" Marie pointed to a man with dark, short and styled hair who was leaning on a wall. "Dark and mysterious."
"Oh my Death, that facial scruff!" Nygus exclaimed.
"And those eyes! They're so beautiful..."
"Mhm. Green with honey highlights. They seem to brighten up his look."
"Yeah. But I do love that black jacket with those dark jeans... Nygus, this is going to kill me! Who is this guy?!" Marie was practically in hysterics.
"Hmm... Hang on, let me click on the picture... Oh. His name is Tyler Ho-chillin'..?" Nygus frowned slightly as she tried to sound out the name before she erupted into laughter. "What kind of a name is that?!"
Marie laughed with her. "I don't think that's how you pronounce it... Wait, there's something underneath his name, but the font is really small," the blond squinted and got a little closer to the screen. "Heck-lyn... Oh, that's how you pronounce it. Hecklyn."
Nygus only giggled and shook her head. "Well then, Mr. Tyler Hoechlin, you will be the death of me."
Marie typed his name into the search bar and found dozens of photos of him, some hot, some cute. She found one photo of him, and squealed and pointed at the screen in excitement. "Nygus! He has bunny teeth!"
"WHAT?!" Nygus observed the man's smile, noting how he did have bunny teeth. "Oh my Death, that it the cutest thing ever!"
"Right! Ugh, I love this man!" Marie giggled.
"What the hell are you two doing?"
Both women jumped up from the office chair and screamed, turning around to find Spirit staring at the computer screen. "Spirit! You scared the hell out of me!" Nygus scolded him.
"Well you're scaring me. How could bunny teeth on a man be considered cute? It's just weird..." Spirit stated as he gestured to the computer. "And you never told me what exactly you're doing."
Marie wrapped her arms around herself self-consciously. "Well... We were just... Uh..."
"What does it look like? We were drooling over hot guys on the internet to make Marie feel better," Nygus explained.
"Ah. Well, it seems to be working," Spirit stated as he put two bags down on the dest in front of them. "Your candy. Enjoy."
Marie instantly tore into the bag of SweeTart Gummies, savoring the tangy flavor of the candy. She smiled at him happily. "Thank you, Spirit."
"Yeah," the knife bit down on a piece of chocolate, "thank you."
"No problem. Now, go back to your..." he gestured to the computer, "Stalking."
"It is not stalking!" Marie countered. "It's fangirling."
"Alright, alright. Fangirling. I'm going home now," Spirit began walking away and put his hand up in the air as a sign of a lazy wave. He opened the large door, turning around to face the women. "I hope you feel better, Marie."
She smiled almost sadly at him. "Thank you, Spirit."
"Yeah... Bye." The red head replied then stepped out of the laboratory, closing the door behind him.
Nygus turned to the Death Scythe. "Fangirling?"
"Yeah, you know... A rabid breed of female human. We obsess over things we know we will never have, even though it can be painful and frustrating," Marie said slowly as she stared at the computer screen.
"Marie," Nygus laughed as she picked up a SweeTart Gummy and popped it in her mouth, "you haven't changed a bit since our teenaged years, you know that?"
"I know. But that's cool because you haven't either," Marie retorted.
The knife raised an eyebrow. "Oh really?" She smiled and laughed once when Marie pointed to the computer. "Alright, that was my idea."
"Mhmm," the Death Scythe resumed her seat in Stein's office chair, picking up another piece of candy as she did so. "But really, I'm perfectly fine with this."
"I can tell," Nygus laughed.
By the next twenty minutes, they had found Hoechlin's full biography. "So he's currently playing a role on a TV show called Teen Wolf..."
"I've been hearing about that show lately, it's on MTV. Maybe we should check it out," Marie said as she continued to read through the biography.
"If that face with that body," Nygus pointed a photo of Hoechlin at the beach, "is on that show and we have nothing better to do, then by all means, let's do it."
"Ok!" Marie giggled as she went to MTV's website and found all of the episodes.
For the next several hours, the two women laughed, "fangirled", and even cried over their newly found obsession. "Nygus...! This is so.. Sad!" Marie cried on her friend's shoulder.
"I know... I think the head writer has a grudge against this guy... What's Tyler's character's name? Derek?" Nygus asked as she hugged her.
"Yeah. The poor guy lost his entire family..." At that point, all Marie could think about was her parents. Now my parents, my only family that I've known, are gone... Forever. A single tear rolled down her cheek and fell onto Nygus's arm.
She's crying... Maybe a show with a character with this sad of a story isn't the best thing for her... "Hey, why don't we go make some food? I'll make my famous gourmet pasta," Nygus smiled.
"Nygus, I don't think Ramen noodles is considered gourmet," Marie laughed as she wiped her eye.
"Nah, but it still tastes good."
Marie smiled at her friend and nodded lightly. "Ok."
Just a few moments later, the two weapons were sitting on the kitchen table with bowls of soup in their hands.
"I wonder what Stein would think if he saw us like this," Nygus thought aloud as she shoved steaming noodles in her mouth.
"What? Sitting on the kitchen table eating noodles after crying over some hot actor? He'd probably think he somehow traveled back in time."
"Yeah," the knife nodded, "probably." She hasn't been crying as much as I had expected her to, so I think I'm doing something right. But she'll probably break down again tonight... "Hey, what time is it?"
"Oh, it's uhh..." Marie jumped off of the table and went into the living room to check the clock before she came back into the kitchen. "It's 4:30 in the afternoon."
"4:30! You're kidding! We were watching that show for eight hours?!" Nygus asked, her eyes wide.
"Apparently... Wow. We went through the entire first season too," Marie said quietly. "But I think that I've had enough of that show for now... It's too depressing to think about."
Nygus got off of the table with a smooth motion, setting her bowl down as she did so, to put her arms around the Death Scythe.
"I know this is hard for you, Marie. To be honest, I don't know how you're doing this right now," Nygus pulled back to look into her single eye and smile sadly at her. "If I lost two people at once who met that much to me, I wouldn't be able to... I couldn't. So, what I'm trying to tell you is to stay strong."
Marie's eye watered at her friend's words and she nodded. Why do I feel so weak when I'm told to stay strong? "I- I'm sorry. I'll try," she said quickly as she wiped her eye and smiled.
"Oh, honey," Nygus cooed as she pulled her friend into a hug, "I don't know how you do that so easily."
Marie's eye shut tightly as she felt the cold blade of complete sadness stab at her already beaten and broken heart. "It's not easy... At all. But I'll manage to put on a smile and make my way through the rest of my life."
Marie... I am so sorry. Nygus hugged her tighter. "Listen to me, Marie. This is not going to be easy. There will be times when you will find it hard to get out of bed, and you will want to break... But you need to know that it will get better. There will come a day when you smile at the morning sun as it shines through your window. You want to know why? Because you're still alive." The weapon put much emphasis to her ending words, as if it would make them more believable.
"I know I'm alive, Nygus. I know because the dead don't feel," the Death Scythe said sadly, tears beginning to stream down her face. "This hurts so much, so surely I am alive. But my emotions make me feel like death. I want death..." Nygus's eye widened after she heard her friend's voice, so quiet, so sad, and... So honest.
"Marie!" Nygus pulled away, now holding onto her arms, and stared at the blond incredulously. "Don't ever say that. You don't want to die...!"
"How do you know what I want and don't want?" Marie cried as she yanked her arms free of the knife. "How can you tell me to never say that ag-" she was cut off by a sob, "again if it's not even your l- life?"
"You're my friend, Marie, and I care about you. I can't stand even the idea of you dead." She stopped for a brief moment to think about what she would say next, what she could tell her so she would believe her, before she continued, "I can't just sit here and listen to you say you want death and not do anything about it."
"Why not?" Marie looked up at her, her usually high-spirited eye drooping low, only exposing half of the raw emotions that could be found in her eye. "Why can't you just leave me alone now? Why can't I just give up?"
"You're not one to give up. You've never given up, and I can't see you doing it now," Nygus reached a hand out to gently touch her friend's arm in a form of comfort. The blond only took a wide step back, showing just how much distance and space she required.
"Don't touch me..." Marie's eye darted across the floor and around the room, as if she was trapped and she was trying to find a way out. It was that moment in which her eye fell upon the knife set next to the rest of the cooking utensils on the counter as she repeated, her voice a whisper, "Don't touch me."
"Marie. Hey, Marie," Nygus said quickly, following her gaze. She wouldn't...
"I said don't touch me!" she screamed, her fingers on her free hand running through her hair and clenching.
"Alright, alright... I won't touch you," the weapon put her hands up to prove she would not attempt physical contact. "Just hear me out, ok?" Marie only nodded and continued sobbing through her clenched teeth. "Listen to me, you're not thinking rationally. You're going through so much and trying to take it all in at once and you can't handle it. Just slow down, and bre-"
"I can't just slow down! They say you will feel the ground shifting beneath your feet time and time again, but it's not shifting, Nygus. It's crumbling," Marie fell to her knees, completely forgetting the idea of picking up one of the knives. She wrapped her arms around her waist and leaned forward, crying as if she was just told of her parent's deaths. "I can't, Nygus... I can't d- do this..."
"Marie," the weapon knelt down on front of her and sat on her calves, only about two feet away from the Death Scythe. "you can do this. I've seen you go through some pretty rough times and you've always come out on top. You're not going to quit. I won't let you."
"You can't say that... Just like you can't help me..." Marie mumbled through her sobs, her head down.
"Watch me," Nygus got off of the floor, picking the blond up with her and dragging her to the computer. "I want you to listen to a song."
"What band is it?" Marie asked as she stared at the computer screen saver, the turning bolt. Franken... I need you now.
"Just hang on," the knife shook the mouse and typed the song title in the search bar. "You'll know the singer's voice."
"Alright..." Marie tilted her head down and wiped her face with her sleeve, somewhat surprised her tears had stopped so suddenly, closing her eye as she tried to fight off a fresh wave of tears. I need you now. Please... I need you now.
The sound of what seemed like an electric violin sounded in her ears, bringing her attention back to the screen. "It's called 'Not Gonna Die'. Just listen to the lyrics," Nygus said right before the familiar raspy voice of one of the Death Scythe's favorite male vocalists began singing.
Death surrounds, my heart beat's slowing down.
I won't take this world's abuse, I won't give up, I refuse!
This is how it feels when you're bent and broken
This is how it feels when you're dignity's stolen
When everything you love is leaving,
You hold on to what you believe in.
The last thing I heard was you whispering goodbye...
And then I heard you flatline...
No! Not gonna die tonight
We're gonna stand and fight forever
Don't close your eyes!
Not gonna die tonight
We're gonna fight for us together
No, we're not gonna die tonight
Nygus sat on the corner of the desk and watched the blond's changing expressions. She went from looking as if she were about to cry, to looking confident and back to crying. Poor girl... As the song played on, Marie was closer and closer to breaking down. Only... She looked different, as if she wasn't going to cry because of sadness. Of course, she obviously was thoroughly crushed, but the atmosphere of her just seemed... Stronger. All I can hope for now is she keeps thinking like that...
Don't you give up on me!
You everything I need...
This is how it feels when you take you life back!
This is out it feels when you fight back!
No, not gonna die tonight
We're gonna stand and fight forever
(Don't close your eyes)
No, not gonna die tonight
We're gonna fight for us together
No, we're not gonna die tonight!
Marie leaned back in the office chair, still staring at the computer screen and completely awestruck by the raw lyrics of the song. "I don't think a song has ever made such a huge impact on me like that..." She looked up at her friend, standing to hug her. "Thank you, Nygus." A single tear rolled down her cheek.
"No problem," Nygus smiled and hugged her back. Marie then pulled away and looked down at the large office chair, staring at all of the stitches that held the fabrics of the different materials together. She sat down in the chair once more, watching as she ran her slender fingers over the seat. "You miss him, don't you?" Marie only nodded in response. "He's going to get better, Marie. And he's going to come home. I promise."
The Death Scythe looked up at her friend and smiled. "I know," the corners of her mouth relaxed as the smile faded. "I just worry about him... I don't know when he'll be able to come home. I miss him being here with me, even if half the time he was either outside smoking or typing on this computer. I miss his reaction when I'd giggle every time he'd fall over in his chair," she laughed and continued, "And I miss whenever he'd randomly get affectionate."
Nygus raised an eyebrow. "How affectionate?"
Marie blushed and smiled at the thought of the professor acting in a way that he only allowed her to see. "Sometimes he'll act more like a person with normal emotions than a man who can barely grasp the concept of love. There was this time, well, it happened twice, but.." she stopped and giggled, Nygus noticing just how much she was blushing.
"What?"
"Uh.. N- nothing..." the blond shook her head and looked at the wall to the left of her.
"Judging by the way you're blushing like crazy and giggling, I'd say it's something big," Nygus tilted her head slightly as she observed the blond.
Marie's eye darted to hers and she giggled again. "Well... We sort of.. Then we did that... And.. Hehe, you know!"
Nygus's jaw dropped slightly, her eyes a bit wider than normal. "Marie! You mean you and Stein...!" Marie only giggled and nodded. "Wow... I never thought he'd do anything like that..."
"Why? He's still human."
"Yeah, but he's so... Monotone. He always seems to not care about much accept keeping his sanity and dissections."
"Oh you should see him when we wake up the next morning. He says a bunch of cute things you would never expect him to say."
"Like what?" Now the knife was curious. Since when was Stein one to say something cute?
"Well for one, he told me he loves me. He also said I have a beautiful voice and- this one is my favorite- only he is allowed to be with me." Marie's smile was so genuine and wide, Nygus never would have believed she was just on the floor bawling if she had not been there.
"Wow. You're right, I never would expect him to say anything like that..." Marie only nodded and continued smiling. She really does love him. Just the thought of him made her happy... If he is the only thing that can truly help her, we need to get him back home... But he's been in there for weeks now and he hasn't shown any larger signs of improvement. Nygus brought herself out of her thoughts to find Marie back to her original mood, minus the tears. She was staring at the ground to her right, completely lost in her thoughts. She's going from emotion to emotion so quickly... It's as if her brain is trying to decide what to feel.
"Hey, Marie," Nygus said, tilting her head. "Marie..." She looks so upset now... The weapon shook the blond's arm, getting her full attention.
"Y- yeah?"
"What are you thinking about?"
"Just..." Marie's eye drifted back down to the floor, "What if he doesn't come back? What if I never see him sitting in this chair, typing on this computer ever again? I mean he hasn't really gotten any better, so I can't help but worry..."
"Isn't there at least one thing that you could do that would keep him sane? I mean if you are able to get Stein to show affection like a normal living human being, I'm sure there's something."
Marie blushed slightly and nodded. "Yeah... He was actually starting to lose it sometime last week and he couldn't find something to lock onto, something to keep him here. So, he chose to grab me and.. You know."
"Woah woah woah. Wait. He just grabbed you?" Now the knife sounded even more concerned than she had before.
"Yes, but it's not like you think it is. I didn't fight it, so that's basically my consent..." Marie tucked a falling piece of hair behind her ear, not liking the expression she was getting from her friend. "Really, Nygus, I promise he is not like that. He just needed something to hang on to."
"I'm sure he hung on alright..." Nygus mumbled.
"Nygus! You know what I meant." Marie crossed her arms and frowned slightly. "It's like he needs a good reason to stay. Spirit put it as he needs a goal, something to keep his mind on the right path." Then he suggested a baby... But I'm not getting into that.
The knife shrugged and nodded. "That seems rational. But it would have to be a pretty damn good reason if it's going to fight off madness itself..."
"Mhm. He was able to hold on to his sanity when we got into bed. But the thing is, we can't do that every time he needs a distraction..." Marie sighed and looked down at her hands, obviously upset.
"What is it?"
"I just... If I can't keep him here with me, keep him sane, just by being with him and using my own self to be an anchor, I can only feel as if he doesn't feel as strongly for me as I do for him..."
"Marie, if Stein told you he loves you, he meant it. Otherwise, he wouldn't have said it. I mean this is the guy who has spent years being completely monotone save a few smiles from something being funny. So I'm sure he does love you," Nygus put a hand on her friend's shoulder, gripping it in a reassuring way. Marie looked up at her and smiled slightly, her single eye a deep pool of mixed emotions. "Just hold on to that. Hold on to him. Because I promise you, Marie, he will come home, and you will two will go on with your normal lives."
The blond nodded, still holding on to the ghost of a smile that graced her lips, trying to tell Nygus she agreed with her. Maybe I can do this... "But we need to figure out how. He's been in there yet he's barely made any improvement. All we know now is he can stop it by either concentrating for minutes on end or finding a distraction good enough to keep him sane."
"Let me and the rest of us worry about that. Right now, you need to take some time to deal with what happened..." Nygus said, paying close attention to her choice of words. "You're going through a lot right now. It's alright if you take a few days to lye in bed and think... Just don't let this tear you down."
Marie nodded again, looking up at Nygus. "To be honest, that's all I want to do right now."
"To be alone and think?"
"Yeah... I feel as if I need to. I can't just push it aside..."
"But you can spend a little while to process it," Nygus implied.
"I have. I know what's happened... My parents were killed. I am never going to see them again. Their lives, their souls," Marie frowned sadly, a tear escaping her amber eye, "were taken from me."
Nygus sighed and returned the expression. "We all have to go at one point or another... Some just die in worse ways than others."
"But why them? Why like that? My parents were good people. They had never done anything to deserve dying in such a horrible way!"
"I know, I know. That's the worst part about this..." Nygus looked down and tried to think of any other way to help her friend. Maybe she's right. Maybe the best thing for her now is to be alone. But isn't this a bit soon? But then I suppose that's up to her. "Marie..." the knife began after a long moment of silnce, "If you want some time for yourself now, I understand. But may I ask why so soon?"
Marie shook her head slowly, looking down at her hands. "I just want to accept it. I want to get it all over with so I can move on."
"Alright... I'm going to go then, Sid is probably missing me anyway," Nygus looked at the blond sadly, crouching in front of her to get a better look at her face. "You'll be alright, Marie. Just hold on. Do what the lead singer of Skillet screams at you and hold on."
The Death Scythe smiled sadly and nodded, knowing exactly what she was talking about, before she recited one of her favorite songs, "Can we hold on? Hold on... There's something deep inside that keeps my faith alive... When all you can do is hide from the fear that's deep inside of you... Something to hold me close when I don't know. There's something deep inside that keeps my faith alive."
Nygus smiled and hugged her friend tightly. "If you need anything, anything at all, don't even hesitate to call me. Got that?" She felt Marie nod, not expecting her to say much else. "Alright... Well I'm going to go." Nygus said softly as she pulled away and smiled at her again. "Hang in there."
"I will," Marie smiled back. "Bye."
"Bye, Marie," the knife replied as she turned to go to the door.
"Oh, Nygus?"
"Yeah?" she turned around and looked at the blond.
"Thank you... Thank you so much."
"It's what I'm here for." No words were left to be said as the knife walked out of the door, leaving the Death Scythe to be alone. Marie turned toward the hallway and began walking down it, only to lean on the wall and crumble to the floor. All she could think of now was how beaten she felt, even as she could hear the song she recited play in her head as if she were listening to it.
We are falling, we are falling again tonight
Where do we go from here,
When they're tearing down our lives?
When all they want is, when all they want is
Us to live in fear...
How long can we hold on?
Can we holf on...? Hold on!
There's something deep inside
That keeps my faith alive!
When all you can do
Is hide from the fear that's deep inside of you!
Something, something to hold me close
When I don't know...
There's something deep inside
That keeps my faith alive!
Marie sat on the ground of the hallway with her knees pulled up to her chest and her head down, her arms wrapped around her legs. There is something deep inside that's keeping me alive... But if I don't have him, I have nothing left to live for... Nygus said to hold on, but how can I when there's nothing to hold on to?
It was then that Marie heard the whispers.
So, just what do you think those whispers could be? Please leave a review, it makes a much more inspired and happy me. So comment away, give some ideas, some songs you would like to see any of the characters effected with, your opinions, and I will do my best to shape this story to a point where you guys will love it :)
