One Day For Us

A/N: Hey guys, so this will be very Hermione/Sirius centric. I wanted to give them a full day together without worrying about the future…for the most part. To all my fellow ladies, and gents if that's your thing, feel free to take this opportunity to live vicariously, I sure as hell did.

Hermione was awoken the next morning by a cold, wet something bumping her cheek. Cracking her eyes open blearily, she saw Padfoot hovering over her, panting happily. "Morning Padfoot," she scratched the dog's head. The night before, Lily took off the disguise and mended her ankle. Sitting up in bed and stretching, she smiled at the breakfast tray bearing French toast, fruit, and juice on the bedside table. "Did you bring that for me?" Padfoot barked and Hermione laughed, "My what a good boy you are, you're even better trained than Sirius." At that, the dog gave her a distinctly human-ish affronted look causing Hermione to giggle. She noticed there enough food on the tray for two, "Is he joining me for breakfast?" Padfoot bobbed his head and jumped off the bed. With a turn, Sirius was standing in front of her.

"I'll remember that trained comment witch," Sirius promised sitting down on the bed.

"Well I won't so you can't use it against me," Hermione reminded him.

"I'll find a way to extract my revenge," Sirius subtly let that bitter note slide past them. "James is mad at us by the way."

"What did we do?" Hermione asked handing him a piece of French toast.

"He's all moody that no one let him in on our little love affair before, claims we made him miss all the good stuff."

"Good stuff," Hermione snorted. "I don't think we could've handled all of them ganging up on us. Besides there was nothing to tell him anyway."

"That's what I told him," Sirius made an 'exactly' face. "But he maintains that we withheld pertinent information about the future. Wow Lily rolled her eyes just like that too!"

Hermione shook her head and munched on some fruit, "So what's the plan for today?"

"You and I are going out today." Sirius forestalled Hermione's protest, "Not 'out in the open' out, more like 'out of this house' out. I only get one day with you Granger and I intend to make use of every second."

"But the plan -"

"Lily and the boys have agreed to formulate a number of different plans, and then tomorrow we can get up bright and early and hammer out the details. The day won't go to waste I promise."

Hermione was still unsure, "Sirius this is what I was sent for, I'm supposed to help change the future."

"And you have, you are," Sirius assured her. "But we also need to go through the facts and figure what we're doing. You can't do all the work here. You gave us everything we need so it's our turn to do the saving. Now please, spend the day with me." He tried his best puppy look on her.

There was no way she could say no to those eyes, "Alright."

"We're flying?" Hermione regarded Sirius's prized motorbike warily. They were in the backyard having just bid the rest goodbye.

"Yup, Floo and Apparition just aren't all that fun," Sirius grinned. "Don't like flying?"

"It's not my forte," Hermione admitted hugging herself.

"There are charms in place to keep you from falling off, you'll be fine," he assured her. "Come on trust me." He held out his hand and Hermione reluctantly took it, letting him guide her to sit sideways in the space between him and the bars.

"Shouldn't I be on the back?"

"That's even scarier," Sirius pointed out. "Besides I like this way." He kissed the top of her head sweetly.

"Hmmm so do I," Hermione leaned into him.

"Hang tight," Sirius warned before kick-starting the engine. Hermione couldn't help clinging to him a bit as the bike started to move and took off from the ground. Sirius was right about one thing; having his arms on either side of her did make her feel safer than sitting in the back would have. Finally they levelled out and Sirius nudged her to look down. The English countryside was spread out with the rolling hills and towns making it look like a beautifully rumpled patchwork quilt. She even mustered the courage to stretch out her arm, skimming her fingers through a cloud. She looked up at Sirius who was watching her tenderly. Feeling daring, she reached up to hold his neck and pulled him into a kiss. Sirius withdrew just enough to push a button on the left handle bar and the motorbike began to drive itself. This allowed him to wrap his arms around his time traveller and kiss her the way he wanted to but unfortunately he had stop sooner than either of them liked. "We'll continue this at my place," he promised. He hit the button again and steered them into London city. They landed surprisingly softly on the top of an apartment building and Sirius helped Hermione jump off. He led her down the fire escape and opened the window to one of apartments with a tap of his wand. "Welcome to my humble abode."

Jumping in, they were in the main area that served both as living and dining rooms, a couple of walls separated the kitchen, and there was a hallway to the left that Hermione assumed led to the bedroom and bathroom. Sirius's apartment could have easily passed for a muggle bachelor pad. Unlike the Prewett house with its obvious signs of magic, here it was far more subtle like the Gryffindor scarf that poked out of the closet or box of Bertie Bott's on the coffee table. There was a muggle television next to a large radio with a record player on top of it. It was surprisingly clean. "Sirius it's -" What she would've said Sirius never found out not that he cared and Hermione honestly had her memory lapse as the second she turned to him he pulled her back into his arms, sealing their lips together once more. Sirius guided her to couch and they tumbled on to it, unwilling to let go of each other for even a second. Hermione pushed him down on the cool leather, his light cologne pricked her senses while his roving hands ignited her skin. It was hard to believe that just a few days ago this man was nothing more than her best friend's godfather to her but here she was, in his apartment making out like teenagers all the while wishing that she could stay like this forever. Eventually they had to break apart for air, her head cradled in the crook of his neck while they caught their breath. Hermione smiled contentedly, "We've got a whole day to ourselves right?"

"Pretty much," Sirius turned them so that they lay side by side. He propped his head on his hand, "I thought about all the things I could do with you in the one day. Going dancing, having a picnic, going to a Quidditch match, maybe catch a film, taking you to dinner at some fancy restaurant but what I really wanted was to spend the day with just you alone. That's it, I don't need anything else. But if there is something you want to do…"

"I don't need anything else either," Hermione assured him. She laughed quietly, "So this is all we're going to do? Snog for the entire day?"

"Well there are few things I was saving for tonight," the heated stare he gave her had her blushing but she couldn't look away. "We can start early if you like," he whispered hotly in her ear.

"Sirius," Hermione tried to chide him.

"Don't worry love, all in good time," Sirius pecked her temple. "For now let's just lie here and watch some TV." He wandlessly summoned the remote to his hand and they peacefully watched some random show it really didn't matter. Hermione hadn't felt this serene in a very long time, the light stroking of her hair and tender caresses at her waist lulled her into a calm blissfulness. She settled more comfortably against his warm body, the tranquility making her eyes feel heavy. Soon she was dozing in his embrace and Sirius followed soon after. The couple napped in the afternoon sun allowing the war, her departure, and all the other stresses fall to the side for the time being. In that little apartment nothing else mattered other than that moment of sweet peace.

Sirius woke first just as the light was turning dark gold. Hermione was still curled up against him so he had to gently prise himself away and summoned a blanket to cover her. He padded into the kitchen and started to work on dinner for the both of them. It didn't matter much to him that they had slept through a good part of the day. If they had had the chance to be a real couple then this would have been a simple lazy day for them and those were the best days. Just him, her, and nothing but time together as if they could fool themselves into believing that they had more of it. Sirius hoped he wasn't botching Lily's recipe for fettuccini alfredo, he'd only gotten an hour's worth of instruction that morning before serving Hermione breakfast, but it looked right. He knew he got the garlic bread down and there was always ice cream on hand at his place so everything was coming together quite nicely. "Sirius?" He turned to see Hermione standing in the kitchen's doorway, rubbing her eyes and looking adorably rumpled.

"Morning love," Sirius slung an arm around her and she nestled into his side. "Sleep well?"

"Mhm, Lily's been giving you lessons?" She sniffed at the sauce appreciatively.

"Or your boyfriend could just be that talented and knows how to cook…" But at the look Hermione gave him Sirius caved, "Alright she may have taken me through it but I do know how to make some things."

"Well you'll have seventeen years to learn the rest," Hermione said without thinking and they froze.

"Do you really think we stand a chance?" Sirius asked quietly.

"I had a bit of a crush on you when I was younger so I'd rather think so," Hermione sighed.

"Really you liked me? An escaped convict and all?"

"I suppose that added to your mystique but don't go getting ideas," Mya nuzzled his chest.

"Not to worry Mya my love, I want to be whole and healthy for you this time. After all in seventeen years I need to maintain these devilishly good looks." Sirius let go of her to strain the pasta, put it on a serving dish, and then pour the sauce over it. "Dinner is also ready mademoiselle." They sat at the little dining table, enjoying their dinner as the conversation flowed easily between them. Sirius regaled his companion with tales of the marauders' greatest exploits while she spoke about the trio. They even did that ridiculous couple-like thing of feeding each other bits of ice cream during dessert and ended up laughing like mad over it. Outside the sky turned dark and they knew their perfect day was coming to a close.

Hermione was doing the dishes when Sirius crept up behind her, "Its nighttime love."

Mya nearly splashed water all over her front, "Sirius you scared me!"

"It's nighttime," he repeated, his hands sneaking around her waist, fingers just dipping under the hem of her shirt. "I think we made some plans earlier," he bit the shell of her ear, pushing her into the counter.

"I'm almost done here…" she managed to say.

"Forget the dishes, I'll do them later. Come with me," he accented the point by further pressing into her.

"Sirius," Hermione groaned and that was all he needed. In one fluid motion, he had her in his arms and carried to her to his bedroom kicking the door shut behind him.

A/N: And I leave the rest to your imagination. I don't know if this also counts as me being evil – let me know in the reviews – but I didn't think smut would really work here. Anywho, HOT DAMN what I wouldn't give to be Hermione, lucky girl. Sorry this took so long but in between school and all, I really needed some downtime. Next update on its way, I recommend tissues. ENJOY R&R PLZ!
