Chapter 37
"Hey, hot stuff, watch the upholstery!" Dean yelled from the front seat as they sped down the road. Crowley sat in the back, carving a sigil into the captive demon's chest.
"Up yours, mate," was Crowley's kind reply, "This bit of carving will tie our friend here down. No zapping off, no smoking out Locked in the meat suit...An important piece of our bargaining strategy. Now, up here, we don't want I-50. Take 93 north."
"What are you talking about?" Dean asked.
"Look, we can't take this guy back to your brother," he said reluctantly.
"Why the hell not?" Addy asked and he didn't respond, "Answer me you jackass."
"They got history, all right?" he yelled.
Addy shot Dean a furious look and he slammed on the brakes. They both turned to Crowley with furious looks.
"You want to go anywhere, you start talking," Dean demanded, "What history?"
Crowley looked between them and then he knew he had no other choice.
SUPERNATURAL
Addy entered the abandoned house to see Sam standing in the desiccated living room.
She cleared her throat and he turned to her, "Hey you're back. How'd it-"
He cut himself off, already seeing something was wrong by the look in her eye, "Addy? Where's Dean? What's going on?"
"I'm sorry," was the first thing out of her mouth, "I'm so sorry to have to do this to you but we can't keep this from you."
"Addy seriously you're scaring me," he asked, getting closer to her.
"Sam you know I'm here for you right?" she whispered.
"Addy-"
"Sam just answer the question," she pleaded.
"I know, Addy," he said with a nod as Crowley appeared.
"Now for the record, I'm against this. Negotiating a high-level defection, it's very delicate business," the demon said as Addy show Sam an almost guilty look.
"What are you talking about?"Sam demanded.
"I begged them not to come back. We should be miles away...from you. Your brother replied with a colorful rejoinder about my corn chute and the Chihuahua threatened to cut off my beloved parts so go ahead. Go ruin our last best hope. It's only the end of the world."
"Crowley," Addy said casually, "Shut the hell up."
She turned back to Sam, "Follow me."
She led him into the room where Dean had the demon tied up and still covered in the sigiled hood.
"Sammy…" Dean began, not knowing what to say.
"What's going on, Dean…Addy?"
Neither of them could look him in the eye.
"I need you to stay on mission, okay? Focused."
"I don't understand. What's all this about?"
"Sam we're doing this because we trust you and we know you can handle this…okay?" Addy asked gently.
"Trust me to do what?" he asked just as the demon spoke.
"Sam?" he asked in mock concern and cleared his throat, "Sam, is that you?"
Dean pulled the hood away to reveal Brady and Addy watched the many emotions cross Sam's many features.
"Brady?" Sam whispered.
"Brady hasn't been Brady in years. Not since, oh…middle of our sophomore year?" he said and a cruel smile flashed his features as realization hit Sam, "That's right. You had a devil on your shoulder even back then. All right, now, let it all sink in."
A hot fury settled into Sam and before he could make a move Addy was in front of him, holding him back, "You son of a bitch! You introduced me to Jess!"
"Ding, ding! I think he's got it!" Brady said with a psychotic laugh.
"Damn it, Sam!" Dean said, helping Addy push him away.
"I'm gonna kill you!" Sam yelled.
"Sam!" Addy yelled at him, gaining his attention, "I said I was here for you! Do not let that thing get under your skin! Now calm down! We cannot kill him…not yet."
"Well...sounds like you got him nice and fluffed .Thanks so much," Crowley snarked.
"Listen to me. We need pestilence to get at the devil, and we need Brady to get to pestilence," Dean tired to explain to Sam who now slightly calmer was still shaking in anger.
"Why? Because Crowley said so? Because we trust him now? Like I trusted Ruby? Or like I trusted Brady back at school?"
"Sam calm down," Addy insisted and he stormed out of the room. Dean shot her a look and then followed after him leaving her alone with the two demons.
"Do the math yourself," Crowley said to his fellow demons," If Lucifer wins, he'll turn this place into his kingdom. When the morning star cleans house, we all get the mop."
"He created us," Brady argued," Why would he destroy us? That makes no sense."
"Look at who and at what he is. Then take a look at what we are," Crowley explained.
"Maybe you should be a little less worried about our necks and be a little more worried about yours," he snarked.
"Has crossed my mind," Crowley replied, glancing to her, "but that's not really my point."
"Actually, Crowley, that is the point. No one will know greater torment than you. Lucifer is never gonna let you die. As for me, I know the score. I'm dead, whether I tell you anything or not. So I think I'll die on the winning side, thanks."
If it weren't for the fact that Brady was a demon she would thoroughly enjoy the look that crossed Crowley's features.
"Good talk," the demon said," Cheers."
With that he left the room and it was just her and Brady. She could feel her heart hammering in her chest as he slowly turned to look at her. Despite her inward worries she stood completely still and blank faced.
"Come on Addy don't be like that," he said and gave an exaggerated pout, "Let's talk. Get to know each other."
Silence was his answer as Sam and Dean came back in the room. She turned to them with a curious look as to where Crowley went.
"Where'd Crowley go?"
Dean shrugged, "Said he had a plan."
"Annoying isn't it Addy," Brady said in that mocking tone of his, "When things go awry. You hate it don't you?"
She kept her back to him and said to the brothers, "Let me see what I can get out of him."
Dean glanced at him over her shoulder as Sam seethed, "Don't let him get in your head."
She turned to the demon and dragged a chair so she could sit face to face with him, "Make it easy on yourself, Brady. Tell us where Pestilence is."
"Is this where the bad Addy comes out to play?" he asked as the brothers leaned against the doorframe, " Because she's really hot."
"Brady," she said with a false smile, "I can make your life very, very difficult or extremely easy so take a pick because either way I will get what I want out of you."
"Alright fine," he said and she briefly had a shocked look before composing herself, "You give me a lap dance and I give you whatever you want sweetheart."
She scoffed, " I wouldn't go there if I were you Brady."
"Why?" he asked with a smirk and looked from Sam to Dean, "Will you sick one of your Winchester boy toys?"
She leaned forward menacingly, "I don't need them to make you hurt."
"Oh I know you can," he said with a smile, "That's what we like about you, Addy."
"We?" she questioned against her better judgment.
"Oh you don't know," he said smugly and laughed as she sat back slowly.
"Tell me where Pestilence is," she said simply.
"This is rich," he said, continuing to laugh as if it were the funniest thing in the world, "You don't know. You pathetic bitch."
"Watch your mouth," Dean ordered from behind her.
Brady looked to him, "Dean, Dean, Dean. You poor bastard."
"Hey this is between you and me jackass," Addy said, standing up and leaning over him with both hands on the arms of his chair, "Now tell me what I want to know!"
His face so close to hers she could feel his breath he said, "You're not just Lucifer's queen. You're our queen."
"Pestilence," she repeated with fiery eyes, "Where is he or I swear to God I'll shove a knife up your ass and through your mouth."
"Oh that's dark," he said with a grin, "You'll make the perfect queen."
Her eyes falter for only a second but he caught it, "You really had no idea. Lucifer doesn't just want someone in his bed doll face. He wants someone to help him lead. Someone who can lead demons into destroying this pathetic excuse of a population that he hates just as much as you do and you do hate it. You hate these people who look at you like the freak you are. You hate how your destined to be something that deep down inside you want. You want this. You want to make them pay. You being Lucifer's fuck toy is just a bonus. Although I have to say most of the demons are hoping he shares"
She put her hand on his throat and using her power she made her skin become hot as fire as it sizzled his skin. The smell of burnt flesh began filling the air, "You listen to me and you listen well. I don't give a damn about what Lucifer wants because it's not happening. I care about what I want and what I want is Pestilence. Now tell me before I burn you until there's nothing but bone."
He laughed although it sounded more like a strangled roar, "It's a wonder how Sam fell for you of all people. Jess was pure…good…you…you're everything she wasn't. I can see it in your eyes. You're damaged and Lucifer likes that. Maybe that's why you and Dean are so good with each other. Two pieces made only slightly less destroyed put together."
"I swear to God I'll-"
"You'll what?" he growled, "Send me to hell? Kill me? It's better than what's in store for you. If only you could see what you've become."
She frowned and looked to her hand which was riddled with black veins. She released him with a gasp and they instantly disappeared as Brady continued to laugh.
"That's right, Addy. Keep it all bottled up and when he's ready Lucifer will gladly set it free."
They stared down.
"I swear for a second there…your eyes were almost as black as mine."
"I'd tell you to go to hell but you'll be there soon enough," she countered.
"Funny…I could say the same about you."
"Is this your way of getting under my skin?" she asked with narrowed eyes.
"I wouldn't touch your skin with a ten foot pole," he said with a vicious sneer, "It has property of Lucifer written all over it."
She tilted her head to the side as if considering his words and then reared back and punched him across the jaw so hard she heard it snap beneath her blow.
He continued to laugh as she shook out her hand with bloodied knuckles. She turned to the brother, "I'll go take care of this and then I'm coming back to take care of him."
She walked to the bathroom and turned on the water. Before she could close the door behind her Dean pushed himself inside. He stared at her and she stared back.
He took her bloodied hand and gently ran it under the water for her. Slowly, he raised her hand to his lips and kissed each one of her injured fingers. Right now he knew that words weren't what she wanted right now. He pulled her into his embrace and she let him hold her as she buried her face in his neck.
"Tell me I don't belong to him," she pleaded in a whisper.
"You don't belong to Lucifer," he whispered into her hair, "You're mine and I'm yours. I won't let him have you. Don't you start thinking we can't win now."
"I'm scared."
"I won't let him hurt you."
"Not for me," she confessed, "For you. Lucifer wants me and I'm afraid what he'll do to you if you get in his way."
"Not if I get in his way… when," he corrected, "I will fight for you until that son of a bitch is long gone."
"2014," she whispered brokenly, "I watched Lucifer break your neck with his foot. I see it in my nightmares."
"Doesn't matter because it won't happen," he insisted, "I'm not going anywhere."
"What if it's not your choice?" she thought to herself but kept it inside and instead held him tighter.
When he released her she went for the doorknob but it didn't budge. She pulled at the door but it refused to move.
"Sam!" Addy called out and turned to Dean, "He locked us in."
"Sam? Come on, Sam! Don't do this!" Dean yelled as they banged on the door, "Sam, come on! Hey! Open the door! Open the door!"
"Sam please," Addy yelled, "Don't do this. Let us out. I know you're mad and you want revenge for Jess but this isn't it. Sam!"
"He's not listening," Dean said.
"Yes he is," she replied, refusing to accept that, "Sasquatch I know you can hear me. This won't make it better. Killing him won't take away the pain of losing Jess. It'll make you feel better for a second. Only a second and then you'll feel horrible because you know Jess wouldn't want you do this. She was good, Sam. I know that much about her because you loved her and she wouldn't want you to become this. She would want you to do the right thing so please let us out Sam. Let us out so we can help each other."
There was complete silence until the door opened and Sam stood there with a guilty look.
"What happened?" Dean demanded as they stepped out and Addy went to make sure the demon was still alive.
"Nothing," Sam replied.
"My ass."
"He's telling the truth," Addy called as she stared at Brady himself.
"Miss me so soon," he said with that same smug smile.
"Couldn't stand to be away," she said with an eye roll.
"They never can."
"God. The day I've had," Crowley said, appearing behind her and making her jump as she turned to him and he looked to the demon, "Good news. You're going to live forever."
"What did you do?" Brady asked with wide eyes
Sam and Dean came in as Crowley said, "Went over to a demons' nest -had a little massacre. Must be losing my touch, though let one of the little toads live. Oops. Also might have given said toad the impression that you left your post last night because you and I are…wait for it…lovers in league against Satan. "
Brady sighed dramatically in an attempt to mask it.
"Hello, darling. So, now death is off the table. Now you get to be on the boss's eternal-torment list with little old me."
"Oh no no no," he said and Addy enjoyed his obvious fear.
"Something else we have in common apart from our torrid passion, of course .Craven self-preservation. So, now, why don't you tell me where Pestilence is at?"
The demon opened his mouth and before any words came out the sound of far off howling filled the air. Instantly, Addy spun to Dean who asked, "Was that a hellhound?"
"I'd say yeah," Crowley answered casually.
"Why was that a hellhound?" Dean questioned again, growing panicked.
He groaned and pulled a coin from his coat.
"What's that?" Sam asked.
"Remember I was telling you about my crafty little tracking device?"
"What about it Crowley?" Addy asked through clenched teeth.
"Demons planted one on me."
"You're saying a hellhound followed you here?" Sam asked in disbelief.
"Well, technically, he followed this," Crowley said sheepishly.
"Get me out of here," Brady pleaded pathetically, "I'll tell you anything you want."
"Shut up," Sam and Addy said at the same time.
"We should go then!" Dean yelled.
"Sorry, boys. No one knows more about the hounds than I. You're long past the point of go," Crowley replied and tossed Dean the tracking coin. When they looked back the demon was once again gone.
"Motherfucking demons," Addy said as the howls grew louder.
"I told you!" Sam stated from the stress.
"Oh, well, good for you," Dean said sarcastically, "We have salt in the kitchen."
"I'll watch Brady," Sam said as Addy went to the threshold, "What are you doing?"
"Holding it back," she replied as Dean began laying a line of salt in front of her. Before he can finish a window shatters and the growling is loud and clear now.
"Addy get back!" Dean said, pulling at her but she stayed still.
"I can see it," she whispered and a puff of air blew her hair back," It's staring at me."
"Addy," Dean said in confusion. There was an odd calm over her features as she stared at something only she could see.
"Damn it, get me out of here!" Brady yelled and the spell was broken as the hellhound began to growl.
"Shut him up," Addy said without looking at him and keeping her eyes on the same spot, "Do not attack."
There was a whimper and then she backed away slowly.
"Addy what's going on?" Sam asked.
"I-I just told it what to do…and it listened."
"Not for long."
They turned to see Crowley.
"You're back?" Dean asked in shock.
"I'm invested," he said and then added with a smirk," Currently."
"Why is there a hellhound next to you?" Addy asked with wide eyes.
Crowley raised a brow," You can see them now? Interesting. Isn't she a beauty? I brought my own and mine's bigger."
The one behind them growled as Sam hauled Brady up.
"Stay!" Crowley barked.
"You can control them too?" Dean asked, looking from him to Addy.
"Oh please the Chihuahua's an amateur," he said and she narrowed her eyes at him as he pet the spot beside him, "Sic him, boy!"
"Let's move it!" Addy yelled, no longer able to look at the disgusting creatures only she could see.
Once they were outside Crowley appeared, "I'll wager one thousand dollars my pup wins."
SUPERNATURAL
The alley was dark and barely lit as Brady stood cornered by the three hunters and Crowley as he handed him a piece of paper, "Yeah. I'm sure Pestilence will be there."
"What do you think?" Dean asked Crowley.
"It's good," he said and then turned his smug look on Brady, "You got no reason to lie, have you? Like I said before, you're in my boat now."
"You've screwed me for eternity."
"Nah. Won't last that long," he said and looked at all three of the pissed off hunters, "Trust me."
Dean goes to draw a salt line as Sam and Addy continue to glare at the demon. Crowley followed after him and before Dean closed the line he let the demon pass.
"Where are you going?" Brady called after him, growing worried.
"I'm going to do you a favor," he replied and then looked to Addy," I expect we'll be in touch."
He disappeared and then all three hunters were left alone with the demon who was growing more and more fearful by the minute.
"What is this?" Brady demanded.
Addy casually leaned against the alley wall, staring at him as Dean asked, "All those angels, all those demons, all those sons of bitches…they just don't get it, do they, guys?"
"No, they don't, Dean," Sam replied.
"That's their first mistake," Addy said with a smirk.
"You see, Brady...we're the ones you should be afraid of," Dean said darkly.
Brady scoffed.
"Oh you don't believe us," Addy said, tilting her head, "You and all your little demon friends fear us. You pray to Lucifer we don't find you and when we do it's the same damn pattern. You go from cocky bastards to begging, pathetic second class monsters pleading for what's left of their miserable existence. And we have fun watching it don't we boys?"
"Damn straight," Dean said.
"Every single time," Sam agreed.
Brady looked to Sam," I bet this is a real moment for you, big boy. Gonna make you feel all better?"
"It's a start," he replied casually and pulled out Ruby's knife, slowly approaching him with it.
"Gonna make up for all the times that we yanked your chain. Yellow eyes, Ruby, me? But it wasn't all our fault, was it? No, no, no, no. You're the one who trusted us," the demon began in a last attempt to get under his skin and none of them even blinked, "You're the one who let us into your life, let us whisper in your ear over and over and over again. Ever wonder why that is, Sammy? Ever wonder why we were so in your blind spot? Maybe it's because we got the same stuff in our veins and, deep down, you know you're just like us."
Brady lunged at Sam and he pushed him back, the blade against his neck but he still wouldn't stop talking," Maybe you hate us so much because you hate what you see every time you look in the mirror. You ever think of that? Maybe the only difference between you and a demon is your hell is right here."
He pushed Sam away and began laughing maniacally as his gaze turned to Addy, "And you. We never finished our little chat."
"Too bad you're finished," she replied with no emotion.
"How's that ice queen thing working for you? Does it keep you from crying yourself to sleep at night? Does it keep the nightmares away?"
She reached her hand out and he dropped to his knees, pain on his face," It's up to you whether or not you die in true agony or not so I suggest you shut the hell up."
"Oh but I was just getting started. Kitten Derov, in the flesh. You know you think you're so strong and brave but I see you for what you really are. I see all the pain and the fury and the pure Darkness inside you."
"Sam finish him," Dean growled.
Sam lunged at him but Brady began again,"I know what really happened in that fire."
The two brothers exchanged a look as Addy continued to look at Brady. Her face contorted in concentration as she kept him on his knees,"What are you-"
"Don't play dumb,"he said with a grin, "You see most of those witch trials from back in the day were run by idiots who just liked to accuse their mistresses of witch craft to keep them from crying adultery to the towns folk but they did have one thing right...the burning. They knew what it did to your kind. They knew that fire burns witches in the worst way possible."
"He's just buying time. Just-"
"Dean shut up," she yelled at him and then looked back to Brady, "What are you talking about?"
"Ever since the fire you've just felt different. You've become a different person and it wasn't just some emotional PTSD trauma crap. You've never been the same since that day, have you?"
"How do you know that?" she whispered.
"Because after Lilith perversed your family line's power they needed a weapon against witches so her sister, Eden, twisted and molded fire so that whenever it was near a witch it would do the greatest harm possible. Of course it didn't burn Lilith because what it was supposed to burn away was no longer a concern to Lilith."
She knew she should just let Sam kill him. She knew she should just let him die and forget everything he had said. She knew she should not have opened her mouth and said the next thing that came out of her mouth.
"What does it burn?"
"Your soul."
Dean and Sam stared at the witch as she froze, dropping her hand and let Brady go.
"You see when we say you're not human baby girl we really mean it. The reason you're so dark and twisted inside is because that night that fire reached into the very depths of your being and took so much from you that the only part of you that is human is so small it doesn't even matter. You can deny and scream and shout all you want but you're just one piece of a soul from being just like us."
"Shut up," she whispered, tears forming in her eyes.
"You'll never be like everyone else. No matter how hard you try or how much you want it. It'll never happen."
"Shut up," she said, louder this time as she gripped her head in pain and the street lights flickered.
"That's right, Addy. You're no better than us. You're no better than Sammy hopped up on demon blood. You're no better than me or Lucifer. In fact, you're nothing more than exactly what Lucifer wanted to be. You're Lilith's doppleganger and just like her you are pure Darkness and you'll never be anything more!"
Sam lunged at Brady and shoved the demon blade into his gut. He flashed with the familiar orange lightning as pain twisted into his features. He fell to the ground, nothing but a corpse.
The two brothers turned to Addy who stared down at the now dead demon.
"Tell me something I don't know."
SUPERNATURAL
Addy frantically pulled at Dean's clothing as she shoved him back onto the motel
room bed. He landed with a thud as she straddled his waist and pulled his tshirt up and over his head.
"Addy we need to-"
Once again she squashed his attempts at a heart to heart with a frantic kiss. She grinded her hips against his and as much as he tried to resist her she was still the one thing he couldn't ever say no to.
"Addy...we need to..." he tried once again but her lips repeatedly met his.
"Less talking, Dean," she muttered, pulling at his belt and throwing it aside.
"Addy stop," he said forcefully and held her at arm's length, "Don't avoid this."
She was upset and hurting. Her whole world was crumbling around her and they were each other's solid ground. He could see it in her eyes that to anyone else looked like it were any other day but he knew. It had been a long couple of months for them all. He had already had his breaking point when he was ready to say yes to Michael and now she'd reached her's. Knowing her the way he did he was perfectly aware that she wasn't ready to admit that so this was her way of coping and forgetting for as long as she could.
He finally realized that this was one of those times he needed to take care of her in the way she wanted as opposed to the way he knew she needed.
SUPERNATURAL
Dean woke up in a fog in the middle of the night. He looked to his side to see Addy sound asleep. Her curly hair was a disheveled yet sexy mess as she lay on her stomach, her naked back exposed as the thin sheet only covered her from the waist down. The rest of the linens were strewn all across the floor along with their clothes and somehow the lamp from the bedside table. He glanced at the clock to see it was 3 am. Their earlier activities came flooding back to him as he sat up.
He chuckled to himself," Holy crap."
It had been dirty, fast, and animal like but he had no idea how to help her. If rough sex was the way she figured things out than he didn't really had no reason to complain.
She stirred slightly and her eyes fluttered open to settle on him, "Hey."
"Hey," he repeated looking down at her.
"You've got scratch marks on your back," she said with a smirk.
"And you've got hickies on yours."
"Sounds like we're even."
She sat up as well, maneuvering the covers over her naked chest as she took in the mess they'd created, "Holy crap."
"Don't tell anyone I said this but you are the greatest sex I have ever had."
"If the guy at the front desk didn't know your name before than he sure does now."
"You think Sammy heard us?"
She snorted a laugh,"Sam's probably scarred for life as is most of this motel's residence."
They both began laughing and they fell back into the bed. Her head on his chest he whispered, "You okay?"
She stayed silent for a few moments to the point he thought she might not answer, "No."
"You want to talk about it?"
"No."
"It doesn't make any difference to me. You know that right?"
"I know."
"I love you."
"I love you too, Dean and I'll be alright."
In his embrace she finally felt like she wasn't telling a lie.
