(Maddy's P.O.V)

three years later

"Brittany!" I walked into my best friends house, bags threatening to cut off circulation to my forearm. "Brittany, little help?"

She still didn't respond.

I sighed then yelled, "Honey I'm home!"

She walked down the hallway and looked at me like I was crazy. "Really?"

I smiled at her. "Yup."

She rolled her eyes and helped me put the bags on her counter. "I thought I told you that you didn't have to bring anything."

"You know me," I replied. "I get told I need to bring anything and bring stuff anyway."

"Staaph," she muttered. "I'm still trying to get over not buying you anything when we went to McDonald's that time with my brother."

"Is that just going to be eating away at your soul for the rest of time?" I asked, rubbing my arm to try and get the blood flowing again. "That was seven years ago."

"Yes, it going to eat away at my soul."

I decided not to prolong the subject. "I'll be back."

I made my way to the bathroom and turned the faucet on, washing my hands. I splashed water on my face, then scrubbed the dirt off.

I sighed and leaned against the counter. After a few minutes, I opened my eyes and looked in the mirror.

My reflection flickered and a pale girl with purple dragon eyes and grey hair that faded to black at the tips stared back at me. Her black and grey wings rested half unfolded against her back.

I didn't scream like the first time it had happened. I'd gotten used to it over the past few years.

I blinked and my reflection was back to normal. Grimacing, I dried my hands and walked out. "Hey Brittany, do you still have any of those maple french toast bagels?"
