A few hours later, D was happily and peacefully reading a file. She knew that Light wasn't going to be as interesting as before so she threatened Jacques to give her something to work at. The file contained little information. The killer had a certain pattern. He had an obsession for leather and horror movies. How did she know? She looked over the victims' photos. They were only two but she could already see a pattern in his work. Both were women, both wore leather jackets, both wore distinctive make up and both were found in positions and places that often appeared in horror movies.

She sighed and threw the file on the table.

"This is way too blunt" The killer was probably a student. He had too much time on his hands. He was probably trying to make his own horror movie.

She sighed again and walked into the bathroom. She needed a shower badly. She also needed something to eat. After she dried her hair and dressed into her pajamas, she entered her small kitchen and started to cut an apple.

"Are you going to prepare a cake?" She closed her eyes and turned around. She did hear the door crack and knew, by how silent he was that L entered her hotel room uninvited, again.

"I'm going to cut your throat if you keep this up" She still had a tight grip on the knife. L's eyes traveled to the utensil but returned quickly to her face. He turned his back on her and walked towards the couch. He saw how messy was the coffee table and raised an eyebrow.

"What do you think about love at first sight, D?" Her response was rather quick.

"It doesn't exist. It's just some bullshit that boys use to make girls feel more precious. I don't believe there is something like that in real life" L nodded. He didn't know if he should trust her words or not; he never fell in love, no matter the number of glances.

"Misa fell in love at first sight with Light. What do you think about that?" She started to munch on a piece of apple.

"On May 22nd in Aoyama, right?" He nodded. "Well, it is suspicious. How could she just fall for Light when he didn't even know her? She is obsessed with him for another reason" L's eyes narrowed slightly. He was sure that D knew exactly how Misa found Light.

"It seems she doesn't remember either. When asked what she would think if Light happened to be Kira, she practically gave me the response I had been awaiting for. There is no hypothesis but the original one. Light is Kira. Misa Amane went to search for him and found him, somehow. She is easily influenced, so she became obsessed with Light. But, it's still not enough to prove that Light is Kira. That is where I got stuck" D sighed and patted his head, lightly. He blinked innocently and went back to sulking.

"You miss one small detail" L looked questioningly at her. "In his recent state, Light will be able to catch Kira. That way, you won't need to do anything but let Light show his true colors" L seemed to be deep in thoughts. His frown disappeared and he looked brighter. D presented the situation under a different light.

"I already decided to use Misa's devotion for my own benefit. I told Light to keep pretending that he cares about Misa. He seemed offended by my request. I sincerely don't understand why" D sweat dropped. He was seriously stupid sometimes. "Anyway, you should pack"

"We're moving to another hotel?" L shook his head.

"No. I have an entire building ready for us" She raised an eyebrow and gathered the sheets and files from the coffee table.

"You've been investing more than just your life for this case, huh?" L didn't respond. He just stared at D.

"When I will be one step away from death, when that time will come, I want you to tell me about it" She stopped and glanced at her childhood ally. She didn't respond. She couldn't find the right answer to his request.

"How did I get myself into this situation?"

A few days after L informed everyone about his extraordinary investment for the Kira case, they found themselves into a place that looked close to heaven. The building was incredibly equipped. It had many rooms, with surveillance cameras installed around; it had the newest and most updated security system; it had 2 basement floors and the rooftop was made so that it couldn't be observed from the outside; of course, he had a landing room for at least two helicopters as well. The best part was that, from a passer by's point of view, it looked like any other skyscraper.

On the first day, when they all decided on their rooms, D couldn't even choose.

"D, I would like you to sleep on the 20th floor. I t has two rooms with no surveillance installed" She looked warily at him, trying to see if he was testing her patience. That was too good to be true.

"Why would you give me freedom? Aren't you the one who told me that I need a leash?"

Light's eyes were going from one detective to the other. The way they were speaking to each other looked like they hated each other. But, if he were to look closer, they were acting like that because they knew each other really well. Their relationship was really complicated. He started to wonder what they were exactly.

"For the period you will be staying here, I know that you will try and work on your own cases. You have been missing for almost a year and your help is needed at the Interpol. Those cases are strictly prohibited for the outsiders so I will grant you personal space"

She wasn't surprised by his sudden behavior but she was a little pissed off. His words weren't correctly chosen. He granted her personal space? Who did he think he was?

"Misa will have a whole floor for herself while we will have each a room. You will find everything you need for a daily life" D scoffed and rolled her eyes.
