200 reviews and 10,000 views! *screams*Thanks everybody for sticking with me! I love you and your reviews are beautiful and amazing. Everything counts, and thank you to every single one of you!
I'm sorry, burn me, stake me through the heart. Writing is hard, as if life. Plus I have recently discovered the Vampire Diaries, meaning late nights and an unhealthy addiction. :/
I will never abandon you, and hopefully this story will have some action in the coming chapters, and a well thought out ending that is yet to come to me.
This is all in Adam's POV, and I'm sorry if you don't like it. But- well, you can find out...
Read on! :D
Adam
We're on the move. Again.
Nine, who seems kinda high, is singing at the top of his voice as we drive. Six is staring – slightly blunt – daggers at him. Like she is seriously pissed off but cant help but smile.
She's about the only one though, the rest of us are just tired. Tired and sore. And not at all amused by Nine's warbling. I am feeling awkward, squashed up against Six who isn't exactly the best at 'sparkling conversation'. I would much rather be in the back, and talk to Marina or Eight or John, but they are all with Ella. Hopefully I can get somebody to swap with me at our next stop.
Wherever out next stop is that is...
"We need to do something"
The words come out of my mouth and I hit myself mentally. I am not the one in charge here, I shouldn't be making the plans. I just sit tight and keep my mouth shut. Nine turns from the drivers seat from a second to chuckle at me. I feel the blood rush to my face, and am immediately aware that everybody can probably see my blush through my abnormally pale cheeks.
Shit.
"Dude finally got some balls" He grins, slapping me on the shoulder. I say nothing, and kind of wish I could sink through the ground right about now.
"He has a point" Say Marina quietly, and I would turn to her gratefully, but as I said. I cant move.
"What are we going to do though" Ella puts in "We don't know where they are"
"We can find out" I say, and everybody turns to look at me, the truck swerving for a second as Nine takes his eyes off the road.
"How"
"I can ask One"
"Waaaaaat"
Nine is the first one to break the silence.
"I can ask One" I repeat, slowly, almost mocking him.
I am not surprised by their dumbstruck expressions. I haven't told anybody, that she has started appearing in my dreams again. I can talk to her, like before, but only for a while. Only until I wake up. It kills me to have so little time with her, to tell her everything, to tell her about us, about me. But she is there, for now, and I am clinging to every second I have with her.
"How" Six demands, "You told us she was gone"
"She was" I reply, my eyes finding the speed metre and widening when I see we are going about 80MPH.
"Slow down Nine" Marina says shakily, leaning forward to put a hand on his. His foot eases slightly off the gas and I breathe a sigh if relief before continuing.
"A few nights ago, just after you all had the nightmares, I had a dream. It was about One's death in Malaysia, and I have had it a ton of times, but not for months now. I saw her die, as usual, but then she was there, next to me. And she was talking to me, for real, like she used to"
They look at me like I'm high, which is probably what it sounds like.
"How can you be sure?"
The plains are dry and cracked, the sky a beautiful shade of pink blended with purple making the world seem mysterious and dark. I haven't been here recently – not for a while at least. And not without One.
"You still so hung up on me you'll come and watch me die?"
"One!"
"Did you miss me?"
I can't talk, I cant speak, I can't even move.
"Oh you dick, seriously"
"How" I stutter "How are you here"
She shrugs, forever the cool, relaxed one. "Who knows, they did some more freaky shit to my body?"
"But"
"Shut up and give me a hug you little dick"
I do, and I wish it could last forever. I could live like this – with her blonde hair in my face and her arms around me. How many times I have this dream, wanted this to happen. When she left, last time, all it was was closure. I knew then, that I would never see her again. So how is this happening?
When she pulls back, her blue eyes are alight and smiling, I had forgotten how much I love how she looks, how I love her...
"What's been going on in the world of Adam since I was away. Pretty dull without me hey?" She teases, and I grin back at her.
"Well, actually..."
"Oooo" Her face twists into a devilish smile "Exciting stuff! Met new people? What about the other Garde, you know them now?"
"Yup, we met up ages ago – a ton of new faces"
"Any hot?"
I sigh, feeling a spasm of pain in my heart, but I know that this is normal. This is how One is.
"Really, your asking me if there are any hot. You know I'm not gay right"
She rolls her eyes, and flicks her hair over her shoulder.
"I know that for a fact" She says mysteriously. She cant mean – not what I think she does. Well, the last time I saw her...
"Oh look" She says gently, her eyes darkening as they flit toward herself. "Ahh" She sighs as the sword plunges through her chest – it's like she can feel it. The memory, it feels like yesterday, everything is always so easy with One, I can remember every word she said to me, always.
"The sky's getting light" She whispers absent-mindedly, and I turn, watching the dark blue starting to fade into a beautiful purple. She's right, which means I will have to leave soon.
"One" I start, and she immediately reverts back to her cheeky self, winking at my clumsiness.
"Adam" She teases me.
"Will you be here tomorrow?" I ask, hoping that she will say yes. I want more time with her – I need more time with her. Every second I spend here feels, amazing. I feel more alive than I have for weeks, months. I missed her, so much.
"I don't know Adam" Her voice is nostalgic, and even a little sad.
"I hope you are"
"Me too"
A blue tinges the corner of the clouds, a shadow falling across the moor. There is one more thing to say – one more thing I need to tell her.
"And One-"
She's already gone.
"Your lying" Nine says shortly.
"I'm not I swear! Everything I said is true, all of it"
"YOUR LYING" He screams and we all turn to him in shock. His hands are clenched into fists, the veins pulsing in his neck. "Stop it" He hisses, and I flinch back as he stalks toward me. Six puts a hand on his arm to calm him down but it doesn't work. "Dead people don't just come back to life"
I don't say a word – just sit there. Anything I say will anger him more, and I know what the matter is. He has had his closure, and he has moved on – or tried to at least. This is not what he wants, it hurts too much for him and for all of us. I know it's not fair that I am the one that gets to see her again.
"She isn't alive" I whisper, so quietly he cant hear me.
"But even if she is" Marina says, twining her and Eight's hands together for support. "Then how can you ask her?"
I sigh.
"Last night, she told me – she told me that she can sense things. Like, she has some kind of connection to the base. Sometimes she can hear them, or see them. The state of limbo she was in is gone – she is more alive than before" As I finish I shoot a glance over to Nine to see if he is watching me. He isn't, he is letting Six talk to him with stony eyes.
"Wait" Eight holds up his other hand to stop me "Do you know what they are doing to her that caused this?" His eyes are wide and confused, though the spark of hope in them makes me cringe. He - like Nine – is starting to believe that maybe the people that we love so much aren't gone forever. I hate to be a killjoy, but they need to realise that this doesn't mean anything.
"So you can ask her?" Marina wonders, almost to herself.
"I think so, I mean, I presume so"
"Presuming isn't good enough" Nine is back, slightly calmer. Slightly. "You have to be sure – we have to get them out soon."
"I'll ask her. It's the best I can do"
"It's the only thing we can do" Ella chimes in sadly, and it's true. We are all on tenderhooks, looking for any way to find them. And for the first time in a while, it's me – well, One – who are the people who could get to them. They need this.
"I'll ask her tomorrow, tonight" I say hesitantly.
"Great" Mutters Nine sarcastically, ignoring the sharp look from Six. Then he walks off again, leaving the rest of us in awkward silence. That's one thing about the Garde – I can try and try and try but I will never be truly one of them – not even with One's powers.
I can try to fit in, be the funny, nice guy that I can be. But it never feels totally real, it never can. I don't fit in, and I wish that I could.
"I'm going to head" John sighs, running a hand through his hair and wincing. He is terrified for Sarah, and I hate the fact that he needs to be. She has been in a base before, and that didn't go too well for her. This time John is desperate, and completely helpless for now.
Marina turns to me, a careful look on her face, brown eyes searching my face.
"Adam" She says and I raise my eyebrows. "Maybe you should go too, I mean, so there's more time to-" She trails off, and I can tell she thinks maybe she is being too pushy. I nod my head and she breathes out quietly, giving me a soft smile and leaning into Eight.
I'll ask One tonight.
Now.
"Goodnight"
"One!"
I launch a hug at her, catching her off guard as we both tumble to the ground. I was so scared that I wouldn't see her again, I forgot to be conserved. And now I'm feeling awkward. Luckily she fixes it by sitting up and pushing me away, smirking.
"Jeez, mess up my hair"
"Thank god your back" I say, turning serious quickly, "I need to ask you something, a favour"
"Demanding" She teases, but at my burning gaze she stops and gazes intently at me. "What"
"One, have you heard any voices – any other people? In the base, I mean"
"Ummm" She hesitates and I take her hand quickly, trying not to notice her jolt of surprise.
"Please, One, the humans, they're in danger"
She cocks her head to the side, squinting hard as she tries to think. After a second, her blue eyes glint and she nods slightly, hands tightening into fists. I know what this means, and it isn't good, it seems I am right as she starts to talk.
"I heard, things" she says tightly. "I heard them, what they were doing to them" A small hissing sound comes out of the back of her throat. "I heard them too, two girls and a boy, he was screaming at them to stop. They were just screaming..."
I put a gentle hand on her arm and she winces.
"Did you... did you see anything?" I ask, and she shakes her head before continuing..
"No, nearly, it was too hazy. But all the sounds were crystal clear" Her voice is bitter – hard and cold. We sit for a while in silence, and I let her calm down before she continues"
"I will try" She whispers after a minute, mirroring my earlier words. "But I cant be sure, everything is so weird at the moment"
"I know" I say, resting my hand on her shoulder and she smiles up at me. Uncharacteristic, but welcome all the same. I like this soft One, though her harshness and sarcasm is what made me fall for her in the first place. She makes me feel whole.
"Thanks Adam. For everything."
"Anything" I sigh, and I mean it. I would do anything for her. And then, as the dawn breaks over the horizon, she is gone like a whisper of air. My hand reaches after her empty figure, uselessly.
"See you later" The words float away almost bitterly.
So yeah, One is back! Yes or no? What do you think?
Prompts are nice, as are reviews! And my other story may like some too *hopeful face*
Anyway... should be updating Every Hello ends With a Goodbye soon!
Thanks xx
