Olivia ran up to the nurses' station, nearly slamming her body against the counter. "Elliot Stabler?" She rasped out, trying not to break down again. Once Fin started driving, she couldn't stop herself from the gut wrenching sobs that took over her. Her head was starting to hurt from her earlier crying and she knew she was probably a mess, but she didn't care. "How is he?"
The nurse moved over to her computer. "Are you family?"
"I'm his partner." Olivia said automatically, not really thinking about the words she was saying at the moment.
"Detective Stabler went into surgery about a half hour ago." The nurse said scanning her computer for any information that could be useful to the distressed detective.
Olivia nodded her head before Fin came up behind her. "Hey, anything?" He asked putting a comforting hand on her back.
"He just went into surgery a while ago." Olivia breathed before taking a deep breath, running her hands through her hair. "Fin, what if he doesn't make it?"
"Hey, stop it. He will be fine. This isn't the first time he's been shot in the chest." Fin stated with a small smile.
Olivia put her hands on her hips, licking her lower lip. "You aren't helping here." She looked past him to find Nick and Amanda coming off the elevator. They hurried over to them, looking at both of them. "Nick, what happened?"
Nick shook his head. "I don't know. We walked up to the house, knocked on the door, announced ourselves. Elliot was about to knock again when the guy blasted off his shotgun through the door. Elliot told me to go after the perp. When I arrested him and got back to Elliot, the ambulance was already there."
"So, there's going to be splinters in his wound." Olivia stated more to herself than anybody else.
"Liv, calm down. He's going to fight through this." Fin said wrapping an arm around her.
Olivia teared up, willing the tears to go away. "Fin, he's fought through so much. One of these times, his body isn't going to fight for him as hard." She looked around the floor before seeing a familiar glimpse of blonde hair in the waiting room. "Kathy?" Even though she whispered the name, the blonde turned her head as if she screamed.
Kathy saw Olivia and immediately hurried over to her. "Liv? What's going on? The kids and I were told Elliot was shot, but they didn't give us anything else. What happened?"
"Uh, Elliot got shot by a man he and Nick were scoping out." Olivia breathed before her tears broke their barrier. "It's not good, Kathy."
"The only other time you've acted like this is when he was shot in the chest. It's worse?" Kathy asked with wide eyes. "Please don't tell me he's gone."
Olivia shook her head. "It was the chest... again. If he was gone, I don't know what I'd do." Kathy hugged the brunette, being the only one knowing about her and her ex-husband's relationship in the hospital. "I can't lose him, Kathy."
Kathy held Olivia a little bit tighter. "And, you won't. He won't lose you either. I know him. He's fought this far to get you. He won't be going anywhere for a long time." She pulled back to get a better look at her. "You look pale. Have you eaten anything today?"
"Always the nurse." Olivia chuckled lightly, wiping her eyes. "I've had a ton today. I haven't been feeling to well though. I'm sure it's just from worrying about him." She put a hand on her stomach and turned to her other detectives. "Nick, Amanda, this is Elliot's ex-wife, Kathy."
"Nice to meet you." Nick said while Amanda nodded, both of them shaking her hand.
Kathy put a hand on Olivia's shoulder. "Why don't we walk around for a while? Maybe we could stop by the food court and see if something looks good." She saw the hesitation from Olivia and knew that she wanted to be there if there was word about Elliot. "We have our phones in case there's news. He won't be out of surgery for a while yet, Liv."
"Yeah, we'll text you if the doctors tell us anything." Amanda assured her captain with a nod, holding out her phone to show her.
Olivia looked back towards the nurses' station before nodding her head. "Alright, we'll be back in a while."
Fin sat down next to Olivia, starting to really worry about her. She was leaning back in the chair, obviously tired, but fighting her drooping eyes. Her head was leaning against the wall behind her, eyes staring off into the distance. It had been hours since Elliot had arrived. Kathy had gone home to be with the kids. Amanda and Nick were heading home for the night, planning on coming back in the morning. Fin was the only one left besides Olivia and he didn't want to leave her there by herself. Her color hadn't come back yet and he could tell the stress was getting to her. "Liv, why don't you head home? Get some sleep. I can pick you up tomorrow to come back here."
"I'm not leaving him, Fin." Olivia whispered not looking at him. She was staring at one spot on the wall and seemed determined not to lose focus from it. "I'm going to stay here for him, no matter how long it takes."
"I'm worried about you, Liv. You've never been like this before when he's been shot." Fin stated rubbing her arm gently.
Olivia shrugged. "I was always there when he was shot, at least for the serious ones." She looked down at the crappy cup of coffee in her hands, running her fingers along the rim. "I just got him back... I don't want to lose him again. I can't lose him again."
Fin furrowed his eyebrows. He knew Olivia and Elliot were close. It was a simple law to the squad of the 1-6. They were two parts of an equation. One without the other was like trying to find a non existent answer. He always wondered how they hadn't gotten together throughout the years, but it was obvious they hadn't. There was always too much tension between them for a relationship to be there. If there was, the tension would've at least gone down by a couple kilograms. "Liv, you can't put yourself at risk waiting for him. You need to be healthy when he wakes up."
"I'm not leaving, Fin. I can't go back to my apartment. It'd just be too hard." Olivia breathed knowing she was only confusing him. He had no idea that Elliot had moved in and that they had been dating for the past two and half weeks. The thought of going to their apartment though was unbearable. She didn't want to see all his things and wonder if she was ever going to be able to talk to him again, watch him sleep again, or make love to him again. Those thoughts alone were making her come undone at the seems. "Why don't you go home and get some sleep though? You've been here as long as I have. I'm sure you want some well deserved sleep."
"I wish you'd take suggestions sometimes." Fin muttered before kissing her head, standing up.
Olivia smiled lightly at him. "I take suggestions all the time."
Fin grinned at her and looked up at the ceiling for a moment, placing his palm on the wall. "Only Stabler's." With that, he waved at her before disappearing behind the wall.
"Sergeant Benson? Sergeant Benson?" A voice called to her. "Sergeant Benson, we have news on Detective Stabler."
Olivia's eyes shot open suddenly remembering the events of the past however many hours it had been. What time was it anyway? "What's the news? How's Elliot?"
The nurse smiled kindly. "Detective Stabler is expected to make a full recovery. He is in his room right now and won't follow any of our requests. He says he was you in there before he does anything else."
"Thank God!" Olivia whispered before standing up, taking a moment to stretch out her stiff muscles, before following the nurse back to Elliot's room. The nurse let her walk in by herself, letting Olivia thank her again before going around the curtain to see Elliot. He smiled at her, a large white bandage covering his chest. He was awake, but Olivia could tell he was fighting off sleeping in order to see her. "Hey."
"Hey." Elliot breathed before she took his hand into hers. "Are you okay?"
Olivia rolled her eyes while chuckling. "You were the one that was shot and you're asking me if I'm okay." She wiped her eyes when she felt the tears building up again.
Elliot scooted over and pulled her onto the mattress with him, ignoring her protests about it being unhealthy for his recovery. "I'm going to recover just fine. This is for both of us, Liv. I want to hold you to reassure myself that I can still hold you. And, this reassures you that I'm still very much alive."
"I thought I lost you, El." Olivia whispered laying her head on his shoulder. She closed her eyes when he kissed her forehead.
"I thought I was going to lose you too." Elliot said before brushing hair out of her face. "Seriously though, are you okay? You look like you haven't eaten anything today."
Olivia shook her head. "I've probably eaten enough for the both of us. I probably shouldn't have though. It's starting to catch up with me."
Elliot rolled his eyes. "You need to take better care of yourself, Liv. I don't care what happens to me. You have to put your health first. If I lost you, I don't know what I'd do." He kissed her head again, rubbing her shoulder slowly. "I bet you even slept in the waiting room." When he saw the blush creep to his girlfriend's cheeks, he chuckled softly. "I know you too well."
"Well, knowing you, you are probably tired. So, I should let you sleep." Olivia said going to get up.
"Oh no, you don't." Elliot said pulling her back, grunting slightly when she landed back on his chest. "I'm not letting you go home in this state. Plus, I can't sleep without you." Olivia grinned up at him before pulling the blankets up over them, toeing off her shoes in the process. Before they could even say goodnight to each other, exhaustion took over their sleep deprived bodies.
