The Walking Dead: The World We Live In

Epilogue

It had been roughly three months since that day... yeah, something like that. Clementine could hardly remember. She paired that feeling of loosing track of the days with how she saw summer. The glorious feeling of being released from school always led her to forget what day it was or how much time had passed. It was quite like how she felt now.

She would do anything to go back, she would do anything to go back to school. She missed it so much, she even missed the dread of recovering homework. She missed her friends, especially Albert.

She always enjoyed his presence when they went to school together, he was a quiet and smart boy, and because of introvert personality no one really talked to him that much. Her friends would look at her like she was strange when she spoke to him, they all thought he was weird, yet she thought he was one of the coolest kids in her grade. She often wondered if he made it. Maybe he did, maybe not... she would never know.

She removes her hat, Kenny had washed it for her a few days after he and Bud had found her. It shone the pure white and blue colors it always had now, except the blood that lashed over the front had remained, it only paled slightly. She places the hat next to her and leans back against the giant oak tree that stood against the edge of the tree line. She chucks a small stick over the edge of the cliff and is greeted by the salty spray of the ocean crashing against the cliff side.

The water refracted purple and pink highlights due to the receding sun. She would have to return to their camp soon, and she's probably have to help pack tomorrow as well. She sighed, at least things had been mostly quiet, the walkers didn't seem to frequent the smaller towns and areas they visited on their trip to Florida.

They were almost there too, everyone had finally come to accept everything that had happened. Things really were starting to become better, of course, with the way things were, most people wouldn't see it that way. But Clementine could always stop and smile, because Lee had left a brighter world for them all, and she could never thank him enough for that. The only way she could think to thank him was to live, she would fulfill her promise and live to see the end of this hell.

The leaves crack and twigs snap in unison, "Hey, Clem, you about ready to head back?" Bud asks crouching down to the right of her and observes the sunset.

Clementine leans her head against his knee and nods, "Yeah, I'm actually getting tired."

Bud covers his mouth and begins to shake, she can hear his squeaks of muffled laughter and leans to her left, she gives him a pointed look, "What's so funny?"

Bud looks at her with a a large smile plastered to his face, "You don't get tired, the big ball of energy you are. In fact, you make me tired," he teases.

Clementine pushes his knee with her foot, "Do not," she retorts, and giggles as she watches Bud try unsuccessfully to regain his balance.

He grunts as he falls backwards into the dirt, "Now Clem, that wasn't necessary," he murmurs trying to appear aggravated but soon just laughs.

Clementine smiles at him, she loves to see the people she knew laugh and smile, they had gone so long without it. Bud sits up and grins deviously at her, "I'm going to get you back one day, munchkin," he threatens.

Clementine rolls her eyes and puts her hat back on as she stands up, "Yeah right, you know I'm always one step ahead of you."

"Are you trying to belittle me?" Bud asks in feign shock while he stands up.

Clementine tilts her head slightly, "Is it working?" she asks innocently.

Bud sighs in an exaggerated manner, "I wish I could say it isn't," he jokes and then turns to her and waves her over as he begins to walk back to camp, "Come on, your highness, the sun is setting," he says sarcastically but fails to conceal the smile teasing his lips.

Clementine nods and follows him, as she breaks into the tree line she turns around once more. The birds fly overhead out towards the horizon, she looks down to the ground and then back up, she smiles once again, 'Thank you, Lee.'
