I'm just gonna go ahead now and apologize for how long it took me to update. I know I've kept you guys waiting a while for the end and I'm really sorry. I hope you guys are still with me.
I've had a lot going on in my life right now. My grandfather had been sick for a while and he just recently passed away, so it's been hard to find the time/motivation to do any writing. So, I thank you all for understanding why it has taken me so long. I appreciate your patience.
Anyways! The last of MYOD is here! I really enjoyed writing this story. I've seen myself grow as a writer and become more confident in my work and it's all thanks to you guys! I cannot believe how many of you truly loved this story. To see that we reached over 600 reviews is absolutely amazing. It means everything to me that you guys love this as much as I do! So thank you!
My new story is underway :) I will be posting the first chapter of it hopefully tomorrow! I'm very excited for you all to read it! I'll post a notice on this story when the first chapter of it is up! So, please keep your eyes open!
Enjoy!
Two years later –
"Brynn!"
I jumped, standing up straight from my crouched over position on the forest floor. My eyes went in every direction around me, before I met the gaze of the large wolf a few feet away.
"You scared the crap out of me," I complained.
"Well, if you had been paying attention, I wouldn't have," he replied. "What are you doing out here anyway?"
I shrugged my broad shoulders. "Just needed a chance to think."
"The only thing you should be thinking about is getting your butt home to get ready for graduation," he said. He inclined his large head in the direction of my house. "Go on. Get."
I growled at him. "Just cause your alpha now—"
"If you don't go now, I'll give you the grave yard shift for a week."
I took off through the trees. "See ya!"
It had been two years to the very day since the boys had broken down the wall of that abandoned house to find Callum and I. Thankfully, we hadn't had much trouble around here since all of that had went down, but it was still something that sent shivers down my spine if I thought about it.
It was also something that made me thankful for everything I had. For a while, I had taken everything around me for granted. Now, I was much more aware of everything I'd been given, all the opportunities I was graced with.
One of those things was definitely my involvement in the pack. All those days I'd spent completely terrified of being part of the pack seemed like a waste of time. I'd been more than thrilled when Carlisle had finally given me the clean bill of health once I'd returned home. With Trey taking over the pack, Cody had extra time on his hands to work one on one with me in perfecting my skills.
The pack was now a very large part of my life. I participated in patrols just like everyone else, I protected the reservation from rogue vampires without going into a complete panic; I even helped new pack members with the transition.
Then, there was Callum. We'd gone from being best friends, to completely hating each other. I wasn't really sure what to call us now—I supposed the term "friends" was close enough. He certainly wasn't someone I spent a large amount of spare time with, but we'd definitely decided to bury the hatchet. After I'd spent however long thinking he was going to die on me in that basement, I was just glad we were all back home in one piece. I didn't have the energy to keep fighting with him anymore.
And of course, I had the love of my life, the most amazing person I'd come to know.
Lucas.
At first, I had wondered why I'd been given Lucas as an imprint. I hadn't understood. But, there were so many answers as to why he was easily the one person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.
Our relationship had progressed in a very good direction since the incident with Elizabeth. We'd both matured greatly and it had worked in our favour. So much so, that once summer vacation was over and before the two of us started college classes together in Port Angeles, we were moving in together.
When I'd first told my parents, I thought Dad was going to phase in the middle of our living room. I had never seen him so angry before. But, I'd thought it through. It wasn't something that was a spur of the moment kind of situation.
My brother, Tate, and our cousin, Ethan, had purchased an apartment on the edge of the reservation after they had graduated last year. It had an extra bedroom and they'd been looking for a roommate for some time now. And while trying to maintain an intimate relationship with my hotter than hot boyfriend under the same roof as my mother-hen of a brother and cousin seemed like a daunting task, it was definitely going to be easier than doing so under the roof of my parents.
I was willing to take my chance.
I was ready to start a new beginning with Lucas, where we could really begin to learn absolutely everything about each other, only it wouldn't have to end at a midnight curfew.
As I neared my house, I put more thought into what was happening today. Graduation. I was graduating high school. Once upon a time, that wouldn't have been such a large shock to me. But with the pack and all the close calls we'd had over the years, it really was a true miracle. It was an even bigger miracle that Lucas, Callum and the other boys in the pack that were our age were graduating right along side me.
I was glad I wasn't doing it alone.
I threw on my tank top and shorts before I hurried up the back steps and into the kitchen, where my mother was waiting with her hands on her hips.
"I know, I know," I murmured. "I'm late."
"The graduation train waits for no one, young lady," she chastised. "Shower. Now."
"Yikes," I told her. "I'm going."
Stella was in the living room doing homework. Next to her sat one of the newer pack members, Austin—my father's newest headache.
Several weeks ago, we'd had four new members join the pack all within a few days of each other. Among them, had been Austin. He was older, sixteen. He had imprinted on Stella.
Coming from someone who read his mind each time we were phased at the same time, I knew the boy worshipped my sister. I wasn't concerned at all by the age difference—Austin only wanted what was best for my little sister.
Stella, on the other hand, was the one who wanted things to progress faster than they needed to.
Perhaps that was what my father was so worried about.
"Hey, guys," I greeted.
Stella jumped up to hug me, despite the fact that I was covered in mud from the woods. We'd since rekindled our relationship and now, it was stronger than ever. "Brynn, I had just the best day at school today. It was the last day and I got my report card and Austin picked me up from school and we went for ice cream and—"
I patted her hair, shooting Austin an amused glance. "That's great, Stel. Tell me later though, okay? I've got to get ready."
By the time I was presentable, showered and wearing the sundress my mother insisted I had to wear, even though it was going to be hidden under the fugly green gown, Dad was home from work and everyone else was waiting. I hurried down the stairs to throw on my shoes and grab my gown off the back of the couch before I jumped into the backseat of Dad's truck.
Everyone else was already at the school when we arrived. Tate and Ethan squashed me into hugs, going on and on about how their "little girl was growing up", Uncle Jared and Aunt Kim gushed over Emma and I, along with my own parents, before we were finally able to pry ourselves away.
"Come find us after," my mother insisted. "I want pictures."
"Yes, Mom," I replied over my shoulder as Emma pulled me away.
We were almost at the back of the school, where we were required to wait for the ceremony to start with the rest of the graduates, when a strong arm pulled me from Emma's grasp. I stumbled, but the arms steadied me until I landed against a broad chest.
I glanced up to stare into the most beautiful pair of brown eyes I had ever seen.
"Brynn, what—" Emma said. "Oh. Well, I guess I'll meet you over there."
I watched her stomp away with a short laugh, before I was distracted with a set of lips pressed to the hollow under my ear. My stomach swirled as I brought my gaze back to his.
"Hi," I whispered to him.
He brought his face back down to mine, pressing his lips passionately to my own for a very short—too short—moment. "Hi, yourself."
"I missed you," I told him.
"You saw me two hours ago," he murmured against my cheek.
I shrugged, grinning wildly. "I miss you all the time."
He grinned back. "Well, then I missed you, too." He pulled back to hold me at arm's length. "And you look—" He didn't finish his sentence, his eyes darkening as he took me in.
I chuckled. "Aw, you're speechless," I teased.
He growled softly, before he pressed his body against mine. His lips were on my own once more. "You're a tease."
I kissed his cheek before I pulled away. "Yup. But you like it."
He caught my hand, tangling our fingers together before we started walking towards the line of graduates. "I guess I do."
I stopped him before we reached the crowd. "Wait."
He immediately looked concerned. "What's wrong?"
"There's just something I want to say."
He raised an eyebrow. "Okay?"
I gripped both his hands in my own, squeezing them tightly. "I just wanted to thank you—for being there for me, even when I was too stupid to realize it. And I wanted to thank you for being my best friend and—"
Lucas laughed, before he pressed his lips to mine all over again. The kiss lasted longer and this time, I was the one to pull away. He rested his forehead against my own. We were both breathing heavily.
"Listen to me," he murmured, his deep voice soft. "You don't have to thank me for anything. Ever. I love you, Brynn Lahote. You are my life. And it is my job to be there for you."
Overwhelmed with emotions, I smiled up at him. "I love you, too."
"Good. Now, you silly girl, let's go graduate."
Giggling through my tears, I nodded at him and let him lead me towards the school.
Together, we walked hand in hand, towards our future.
And for once in my life, I wasn't the least bit afraid of the unexpected.
I welcomed it. Because I knew I would have Lucas with me.
No matter what.
Aw. I seriously love this chapter!
Hope you enjoyed it! Thank you all again for reading :) Please shoot me one last review if you get a moment!
