Chapter 34
Harry Potter broke into Gringotts. Hogwarts was in upheaval, Severus paced rapidly in the headmaster's office. Nymphadora held a sleeping Teddy. He was a very good baby. Severus and he seem to bond at night when Teddy woke up and needed a change and a feeding, he would softly shake her and she would feed their son. Once Teddy was full it was Severus who stayed awake and enjoyed private time with their son.
Severus looked at her, "Nightfall is almost here. We have to be quick. He pulled one of the instruments from the desk's drawer. It was an old wooden spoon. "Go grab whatever you wish to take with you."
Nymphadora's face paled. "No, surely you are exaggerating." She pleaded.
"No, this isn't safe. You have to get your things." He grabbed the baby from her arms and urged her to go into the bedroom and collect her possessions. She did so with tears on her eyes.
She opened a big suitcase, Severus had already thought about her escape from the castle. She grabbed the box with her jewels and an old teddy bear that had been Severus's when he was a baby and he'd given to Teddy a couple of days ago. "A teddy for Teddy." He said to the slumbering boy when he thought she was asleep.
Nymphadora stood up and went back to the office, all of her things shrunk to fit in a small handbag. She cried when she saw Severus saying goodbye to their son. The gravity of the situation finally hit her. Her eyes were overwhelmed with tears. "I don't want to go." She hugged him hard, the baby squished between them.
He kissed her softly, not hard and passionate like she expected it to be. He kissed her softly, slowly, an everyday kiss. Severus kissed her like he would see her tomorrow morning.
He pulled away and looked very distressed, "He's here. Stay hidden, no matter what do not go out of this room. Promise me." He said his voice breaking a little.
She shook her head and held on to him sobbing her eyes out. "We don't have time for this. He's calling me, the portkey activates in three minutes." He kissed Teddy's forehead and handed him to her. "I love you both very much." He dissaparated.
She was in a state of utter shock. Teddy squirmed a little and cried. She snapped out of it and comforted her small child. She looked at the portraits blankly the three minutes must have passed because the wooden spoon began to shake and shine. "Child, you must grab the portkey…" Armando Dippet said. Nymphadora didn't take it twice. She grabbed the spoon and was transported to Spinners End.
Nymphadora paced for about three minutes and found the muggle tickets. She by no means planned to do as Severus said. She looked at Teddy, he wasn't safe here. He needed a safe place for him. A twisting sensation filled her, there wasn't a safe place. Severus was their safety, she needed to think. Nymphadora came to the same conclusion; her only option was the Order, her mother.
Potterwatch left her with some clues as to their location. She apparated and hoped that the wards wouldn't be threatening or deadly. She made it to an old the Prewett house. Charlie Weasley loved to talk about the old house.
She jostled Teddy and walked up to the entrance. She waited and then a light blinded her. She left vines around her arms and Teddy crying. "Stop, please stop. It's me Tonks." She said scared when she didn't feel the baby on her arms.
The light went out and she looked at Andromeda who held and soothed her Teddy. "His name's Teddy just like Dad's." she tried to make eye contact with her mother. "Mum, Harry broke into Gringotts. Severus thinks it'll happen tonight."
Remus and Kingsley looked at her with sadness. "How could you do this?" Kingsley was the first one to speak to her. They didn't give her any time to answer.
"Severus sent me away. He wants me to go to America, he's sure that he won't be alive by the end of the night." Nymphadora took in her surroundings and watched as the Weasleys made their entrance.
"He won't. Not if we have anything to do with it." Bill said quickly. Fleur frowned and looked at her sadly.
"Please you can't. Not everything is what it seems. Severus is innocent, he's not a murderer." Nymphadora said vehemently.
"She has to be imperiused. Dad, look at her." Charlie defended her quickly.
This had been a mistake. Teddy kept crying. Neither Andromeda nor Molly could sooth the child. "Please give him to me." She pleaded with tears in her eyes. Remus took pity on her and undid the bindings. Nymphadora stood up and took her child from Molly's arms. Until then Teddy had wore her brown hair but as if he was tired like it happened when he was tired, he went back to his natural state. He opened his big dark eyes and his hair became his usual raven. There was no denying who had fathered him.
"He's beautiful." Andromeda stated and then hugged them both.
She cried and held onto her. Andromeda cried and they held each other. Immediately a patronus appeared a tabby cat with Minerva's voice. "Harry Potter is back. He's in the castle." Kingsley looked at Tonks. "You say Snape said tonight was the night."
She nodded. The auror looked at Remus and Arthur. "We have to go, Fred spread the word. We're taking over Hogwarts. Everyone is to go through Aberforth's pub. We will go in teams like we prepared. Bill, George and I will go first. Molly, Charlie and Fleur will wait twenty minutes and go. Remus, and Arthur will go in last after another twenty minutes."
Ginny stood up. "I'm going too and you won't stop me." Ginny looked defiant and held onto Bill's hand." The Weasleys didn't try to dissuade her. Fred managed to contact a small army of people who confirmed their attendance when Remus and Arthur were ready Nymphadora kissed her young son and her mother. "Please take care of him."
Andromeda gasped, "You can't go. Your child needs you."
Nymphadora nodded, "He does but his daddy too. I will make sure Teddy has his daddy."
Remus looked at her for the first time, "He wouldn't want you to go back."
She nodded, "He has to live." She held his hand and apparated to Hogsmeade.
