A/N: Okay people, for sure, this is gonna be the last chapter. I AM SURE.
~Chapter Thirty-Six~
A bright glow momentarily blinds Amara when Sandy unites the two jars together. Once the light disappears, Amara opens her eyes. She gives a small gasp, seeing a whole jar in Sandy's hands. Its appearance now has changed into an ordinary Greek designed jar, nothing special. But it has the power to literally contain anything. Amara thought pointedly to herself, eyeing the black sky with swirling masses of Fearlings.
"All we just need to do is tell the Jar what it needs to contain…" Pitch informs to the group, clearly on edge.
Jack leans near the Jar and says to it, "Well obviously, trap the Fearlings!" Once Jack states this, a bright glow bursts out of the jar straight into the sky. Everyone steps back, awed. Like a light beam, it pierces the sky of Fearlings. A huge whoosh is heard, then immediately Fearlings start getting sucked into Pandora's Jar.
Though, much to the Guardians', Pitch's, Amara's, and Jamie's disturbance, the Fearlings' only cackle hysterically as they get sucked into Pandora's Jar. Amara shakes her head in disbelief. Why? Why are they laughing? They won, didn't they…? Once the command is issued to teh Jar, the Fearlings go into it quickly, like water being drained. Soon enough, the sky is clear once again, the shade of orange and dark blue. It's sunrise.
Yet even though Amara sees the sun once again, she couldn't shove that horrible dread into the back of her head.
Before the last Fearling gets sucked into Pandora's Jar, Pitch manages to grab it. Fury in his eyes, he shakes it. "Tell me, Onyx." Pitch spits out, with an obvious loathing. "What is your real motivation here? Why won't you and your damn friends stop that insolent laughing?"
"Oh...oh? You're disturbed by our laughing? What, you expected us to be screaming? Ha...haha...HAHAHAHAHAhahahhahahahHHAHAHAhahahaha!"
Amara with the others, step back, horrified. Alarm flashes through Pitch's eyes. He covers this up, by smacking Onyx, rudely abrupting his laughter.
Onyx gives a melodramatic gasp, acting hurt. "And here I thought you had manners Pitch!" He whimpers, yet an obvious sneer on the shadow horse's face.
"Cut to the bloody crap." Bunny flatly states, his boomerangs aimed at the Fearlings threateningly.
The Fearling rolls its eye, unphased. But its expression once again distorts into a smirk of triumph, evident to the whole group. "You think you all won?! HA! We are only the beginning!" Onyx crows, rearing his head into the air, relishing it. "Like pawns, you all played into our plan…"
"What plan?!" Tooth cries out, her hands clenched into fists.
Onyx laughs giddily, savoring the fact that the spirits and human children didn't know anything that they planned. "Believe me...compared to the Greatest Evil, we are like ponies!" Onyx snorts at the irony he just made. "Facing the Greatest Evil will be your downfall."
"Not as long we're here." North says to the Fearling. "Not as long children believe!"
"Right, right." Onyx rolls his orange glowing eyes.
Amara finally finds her voice to speak up. "Whatever you just made us did, we can handle it! Besides," Her eyes narrow at the Fearlings, hostile. "What do you know about the person who caused May's death!"
The Fearlings collaspes into boisterous fits of cackles. "Ahahaha, ah yes, May, your sweet sister!"
The Guardians and Pitch, except for Jamie who is still quite lost in the situation, glance over to Amara with concern. She looks straight at the Fearling, glaring. If she had looks of daggers, the daggers probably would've pierced the shadow horse already. "Don't dodge the question. Tell me." Amara demands, a desperate edge to her voice.
Onyx looks straight in Amara's eyes. Then it smiles knowingly. "Promptly and sweetly, I shall tell you this Amara: I'll never tell!" Amara draws back, enraged. Pitch, having enough, lets go of Onyx. Giving out his last laughter over the Fearlings' victory, he is sucked into the Jar. With that, Sandy slams the lid on top of Pandora's Jar.
It stops glowing, once again a normal looking jar. Jamie cautiously attempts to pull the lid off, yet it didn't budge. That's it. The shadow monsters are trapped.
The group stands there for a moment, still. In the distance, soft rays of sunlight shines, the sun on the verge of rising. The birds come out of hiding, soaring up into the sky singing their serenade. The peaceful moment seemed...surreal.
Finally Jack breaks the silence by saying, "C'mon kids. Let's go home."

Amara's heart beats faster as they all walk through the woods...nearer and closer to their homes once again. She starts breathing faster, exhilirated. To Amara, it seems a little too good to be true, yet it is real. And she is relieved. Jamie, noticing the red head's nervousness, finally musters up the courage to talk to her. "Errr...you okay?" Jamie asks, scratching his head.
Amara takes notice of his question. "Huh? Uhhhm...yeah, I guess. I dunno, I guess I'm just kinda nervous that my parents will ground me for life, for like running away?" She laughs, to show that it didn't bother her, but it wasn't the truth. At this point, she's just nervous to see her family...it felt like a lifetime that she hasn't seen her parents.
"Cool!" Jamie grins, in admiration at Amara. She gives him a puzzled expression. "That takes a lot of guts. I would do it...but I'm just more aware of the consequences." In answer, Amara pokes his gut. "Oof!" Jamie reacts, rubbing his stomach. "Besides, you just have to tell me what happened down there. You need to explain this weirdness." He says to her, waving his arm over to the Guardians and an allied Pitch.
Amara gives a half smile. "It's a long story."
Jamie smiles back toothily, showing the gap where his tooth is missing. Amara found it kind of cute. "Well, I'm sure we'll have all of the time, since we'll be grounded together. My mom must be flipping out right now. Gahh…" Jamie moans, realizing this.
Tooth gives him a "I-told-you-so" expression. "Well, in the first place, you shouldn't had snuck out." Jamie juts out his bottom lip, puffing out his cheeks. Amara manages a small laugh. Her heart speeds up even more, seeing the same blue house she saw not too long but a week ago when she moved into Burgress.
Had they changed since her absence? Because...Amara feels changed on so many levels after her crazy adventure. Is she still the same "her?" Amara gazes down at her hands to make sure.
She finds herself frozen at the sidewalk, along with Jamie. She glances back at her new friends. Pitch, Jack, Sandy, Bunny, and Tooth stand back, watching them. Sandy makes a gesture to go on, a reassuring smile on his face. Amara gives a small thumbs-up, slightly shaking. Jamie nudges her lightly. "Let's go." However, before the two children went across the street, three grown-ups appear out of the house.
Amara gasps, recognizing them. It is Jamie's mother, who looked worried sick and still in her bathrobe...and her two wonderful parents. Before stopping herself she screams, "Mommy! Daddy!" The grown-ups all stop talking to each other, and turn to the direction of Amara's yellings. Amara's parents both freeze at the sight of their missing child.
"Amara!" Her mom shouts, her hands to her mouth. Just as she was about to run to her daughter, there was no need too. Amara already, at full speed, ran into her parents' arms. Her father catches her in mid-run, tossing her up into the air, laughing through tears of relief. "Little Red! Little red, you're back…!" He whoops, swinging Amara into a hug swing. Amara sobs and laughs at the same time into her dad's shoulder.
If she were her old self, she would've scolded her father and been embarrassed. But now, she didn't even care! She's with her parents! Amara hears Jamie's mother embracing Jamie, showering him in a mixture of scolding and worrisome rants. Next, Amara goes to her mother. Her mom kneels to her height, and wraps her into a huge bear hug.
Gasping, the first thing she manages to say, "Grounded—!" Amara laughs care freely in answer, not caring. If she's confined in her own house with family, that's all that mattered. "—No, wait, not grounded—ah, where were you—we were worried sick!" Her mom mutters fast between breaths. Then she finally manages to say in the end and whisper into Amara's ear, "Don't ever do that again. But I know half of this is my fault—sweetie, I'm sorry."
More tears stream from Amara's eyes, her heart swelling with longing and love. "I'm sorry Mommy, I'm sorry…" She whispers back like a little kid. Once the two families were reunited, they make their way back into their homes confused, relieved, and joyful. Before Amara goes back into her home, she pauses to look back to see the spirits once more.
Strangely, they were gone once she looks back.

"Oh man, them feels though!" Jack says with a wide grin, wiping his sleeve across his eyes. He smiles seeing that he and his friends—and additionally, Pitch, were in North's Workshop. Everything is back to normal—almost. North is at the open window where Manny's communication shrine is at. Jack approaches him, putting his hand on his shoulder.
"North...hey, are you okay with Amara and all…?" He brings up cautiously, feeling slightly guilty that the girl couldn't find a place in her heart to believe in the iconic Christmas figure. North sighs, yet a smile is on his face. "Thank you Jack, for your concern." He replies, patting his head. "But I see that the little girl...is not ready. Afterall, she still hasn't received closure for her sister's death." The Russian's expression turns dark, seeing Pandora's Jar in Sandy's arms.
"There are still many questions left unanswered. Some that may be confirmed by Manny." North gazes up to the sky. Strangely, there is no moon in the sky. North frowns. "I don't recall it being a new moon today…" he mutters. The Guardians and Pitch draw in, catching his concern.
"What, is Manny not answering?" Bunny asks, his arms crossed. At that moment, a yeti shuffles in, looking depressed and defeated. Jack noticed that when the all of them transported back into the Workshop. The Elves and the Yetis were totally out of character, completely quiet. Now Jack notices it.
The Yeti goes to North, a sad look on its hairy face. Silently, he hands North a blue disc. He points up to the sky where the moon used to be. Then, he sighs deeply and shuffles away. "What was that all about, Nichalos?" Pitch questions, at unease.
North strokes his beard thoughtfully. "We'll see…" He puts the disc into the computer at the Globe Room. The huge room darkens, and a blue light projects out of the computer screen. Then in front of the Guardians and Pitch, is a hologram of Manny himself. He looks absolutely tired, much to their alarm.
In a weary tone he says, "Hello Guardians, Pitch. This message must've been delivered to you by one of the Yetis, since you have sucessfully sealed away the Fearlings. But I fear that a larger evil is at play," Manny sighs. He interrupts his message with a huge yawn. "Ahem—excuse me. My energy is close to nothing."
Tooth ruffles her feathers, unsettled. "What does that mean?"
"Giving away the last of my energy to all of you has taken a toll. And because of this, I will go into a deep sleep to regain my energy. From this, I will not be able to answer or advise you."
"What?!" The spirits all exclaim in disbelief.
A guilty smile appears on the hologram's Manny's face. "I should've warned you sooner, but you musn't be distracted from what you had to do. Eventually I will wake up, at full power, but until then, I'm afraid you're on your own." Manny straightens up his posture, his serenity coming back into the hologram message.
"To more light matters—I've seen how all of you managed to grow between each other. Especially you, Pitch." Instinctively, the Guardians steal a glance at the Nightmare King. He raises an eyebrow, a little lost. "You have earned your place of redemption Pitch—and I see to it that you will receive a far more suitable position that will earn you into the belief of children." Manny clears his throat.
"Pitch Black—I now deem you spirit of lost spirts and Halloween."
The Guardians clap lightly at this. Pitch smiles awkwardly, not quite used to this treatment. "You must've learned many things about your role, trapped in your lair." Amara flashes through Pitch's head. He nods silently when Manny says this. "And it is important. For there must always be fear for the world to keep on running, always presence. Being the spirit of lost spirits, you help dead mortal souls that are lost throughout the mortal plane, and help them to the afterlife. You help them get over their past regrets and life."
Pitch straightens up. He mutters, quietly as possible, "Thank you, old friend."
As if Manny heard him, he smiles. "To show this new status, here is your new source of power." On cue, A Yeti walks forward, a golden scythe in its hands. It bows to Pitch, in respect. Pitch takes it, mute, but honored. Jack punches his arm. "You'll probably get a higher salary."
Pitch rolls his eyes. "We don't get paid at all."
"Exactly."
"Ahem!" North coughs to the two. Their attention goes back to the hologram message. Manny continues, "I wish you all luck on what lies ahead. Though you have managed to defeat the Fearlings, the Greatest Evil and Hope are still out there. But, I have faith in you. All of you." With that, the lights turn back on, the disc popping back out.
There's a stunned silence. "You deserve it Pitch." Bunny finally says, smacking his back.
"Ack!" He flinches, almost falling over.
"That's right!" North yells, giving another smack on the spirit of Halloween's back.
"OUCH!" Pitch yells, falling over for real this time. The Guardians all laugh at this. "Always enjoying my demise," Pitch grumbles, going back on his feet. His expression takes a grim turn. "But like Manny says, it still isn't over. There are many things to be done...questions unanswered…"
"Lighten up!" Jack shouts, smacking his back.
"Stop abusing my back!" Pitch snaps grouchily.
Tooth smiles at this. "Besides, there's an old saying, 'Worry about today. Sometimes tomorrow has to wait.'"
Pitch looks begrudingly at the Tooth Fairy. "I suppose that's true…"
"Hell right!" Bunny exclaims. "Now, let's celebrate. We all need it."
"And even when the Greatest Evil is out there, we're all united. We're strong together." North says to the group. "As long as there is any type of evil out there that threatens the world, we'll be there. We'll be ready."
Pitch smiles, relaxing. "Well, I suppose it's bloody all or nothing." He says, recalling what Amara said to them back in the lair. The Guardians remember this, smiling at the memory.
"All or nothing."
A/N: So yeah...that's the end. YYYYAAAAYYYY! I can finally get to the sequel—questions will be answered! Who is May's cause of death? Will Amara find in her heart to believe in North?
